Un sincero homenaje a un grande de la floricultura mundial, Don Peter Ullrich, quien deja un magnífico legado y grandes enseñanzas a sus colaboradores y amigos a través de sus empresas Hilsea Investments Limited y Esmeralda Breeding.

En esta edición hacemos un reportaje gráfico de la presencia de las fincas ecuatorianas en la feria de Beijin, en el segundo congreso mundial de floricultura realizada en Tabacundo y el trabajo de la escuela de floricultura de Expoflores. Al cubrir estos eventos nos interesa transmitir a ustedes las principales actividades que se han desarrollado para impulsar la floricultura.

Un año menos difícil de lo esperado para los floricultores de nuestro país, la falta de flor en otros países productores, generó una mayor demanda y ligeros incrementos en los precios.

La mejora de la economía rusa ha hecho que la demanda de flor vuelva a incrementar las ventas e incluso ha habido un ligero incremento en los precios. No vamos a volver a las condiciones del 2014, pero hay que seguir trabajando con los importadores para buscar los nichos de mercado que demandan una flor de mejor calidad y mejor precio.

Las empresas ecuatorianas productoras de flor deben centrarse en buscar mercados en donde se valora la flor de mejor calidad. Las fincas que han destinado su producción a atender los mercados masivos de supermercados, deben ser muy cuidadosas en mantener el control de costos para no tener problemas al final de cada contrato.

Sigamos adelante, con ánimo y sacando las mejores destrezas para encontrar los caminos adecuados para llevar nuestras empresas al éxito.

In this edition, we have carried out a graphic report about the presence of Ecuadorian flower growing farms in the Beijin fair, in the second world flower growing congress held in Tabacundo, Ecuador and regarding the work carried out by the flower growing school of Expoflores. By covering these events, we wish you to know about the main activities that have been developed to promote the flower-growing industry.

This has been a less difficult year than expected for the flower growers of our country. The lack of flowers in other producing countries has generated a greater demand and slight increases in prices. The improvement of the Russian economy has caused the demand for flowers to increase sales once more and has also caused a slight increase in prices. We are not going to return to the conditions held in 2014, but we must continue working with importers to keep on looking for niche markets that demand a better quality flowers and improved price.

The flower growing farms that have aimed their production to serve the mass market of supermarket stores must be very careful in maintaining cost controls to avoid problems at the end of each contract.

Let us press forward with courage and pulling out the best skills to find the most appropriate ways to carry our companies towards success.

В этом выпуске мы предоставляем графический отчет о присутствии эквадорских плантаций на выставке в Пекине, на втором Всемирном конгрессе цветоводства, состоявшемся в Табакундо и в работе Школы цветоводства Expoflores. Организовывая эти мероприятия мы хотим ознакомить вас с основными мерами, которые были разработаны в целях содействия цветоводству. Менее трудный, чем ожидалось для цветоводов нашей страны, год, недостаток цветов у других странпроизводителей, все это привело к увеличению спроса и незначительному увеличению цен на эквадорский цветок. Улучшение российской экономики позволило снова увеличить продажи и цены. Мы не будем возвращаться к условиям 2014 , но мы должны продолжать работать с импортерами, чтобы искать нишевые рынки, которые требуют более высокого качества цветка и лучшие цены. Эквадорские компании по производству цветов должны сосредоточиться на поиске новых цветочных рынков, где ценится высокое качество цветка. Плантации, которые направляют производство на массовые рынки, должны быть очень осторожны в поддержании контроля над расходами, чтобы избежать проблем. Me involucré en el mundo de la floricultura desde el año 1995 formalmente, cuando empecé a trabajar en Rosinvar S.A, porque mi esposo era socio de la empresa y fui a trabajar en la construcción de la finca de Cotacachi.

Puedo decir que desde siempre estuve involucrada en el mundo de la floricultura, ya que siempre viví en Cayambe y teníamos muchos amigos que estaban dentro de este mundo. Conocí y me casé con un floricultor en el año 1989 y fue a través de él que aprendí sobre selección, cultivo, administración, comercialización, etc. Toda mi familia vive alrededor del sector floricultor..

Como todos los negocios en el mundo, éste también tiene sus momentos buenos y malos. Desde que empezó la crisis rusa a finales del 2014, se volvió más complicado el manejo de las empresas florícolas, ya que debemos manejarlas eficientemente, tratando de bajar los costos pero sin dejar de tener calidad.

Esta condición complica el desenvolvimiento de las florícolas, ya que se requiere gran cantidad de mano de obra e insumos en los que una empresa no puede dejar de invertir, sin contar con que el flujo de caja se volvió lento porque los clientes se toman más tiempo para pagar por la crisis que enfrentan en sus países.

El negocio de la floricultura siempre estará amenazado por las diferentes circunstancias que se presenten en los mercados del exterior. Como recordarán, varias veces hemos tenido que enfrentar crisis en los países a donde llegamos con nuestros productos, pero aquí es donde tenemos que poner mucho de nuestra tenacidad, empeño e ingenio por hacer las cosas bien y poder salir adelante, ya que de nosotros dependen muchas familias en nuestro país.

Es imprescindible que todas las empresas de flores grandes, medianas o pequeñas trabajemos en las mismas condiciones, es decir con las mismas exigencias gubernamentales y empresariales que tenemos las empresas formales, es decir, pagando las regalías por las variedades que explotamos, cuidando de nuestro personal y pagando los impuestos y obligaciones con el gobierno.

De esta manera podremos garantizar que el precio de la flor sea similar entre todos y de esta manera evitaremos la competencia desleal.

En esta actividad el 60 % del personal de las empresas somos mujeres y cumplimos muchísimos roles; desde las empleadas de cultivo que tienen a su cargo el manejo de sus plantas, pasando por postcosecha donde se encargan del empaque de la flor y en las áreas administrativa y comercial siempre estamos involucradas, dando nuestro toque de cuidado y cariño. Cabe destacar que la situación económica de las familias en los sectores donde se producen flores ha mejorado sustancialmente porque aportamos económicamente a nuestros hogares.

Puedo decir que gracias a la floricultura tengo muchas cosas; en la parte personal haber conocido a mi maravilloso compañero de vida, mi esposo y formar mi hogar con dos hijos, también contar con grandes amigos implicados en este mundo.

En la parte empresarial tener mi empresa y contar con el apoyo de nuestros empleados que en el transcurso del tiempo se convierten en parte de tu vida, puedo decir que la floricultura es nuestro modo de vida y estamos en la finca todos los días del año.

FLOWER GROWING IS OUR WAY OF LIFE María Fernanda Rodriguez I have been formally involved in the flower growing world since 1995, when I started working at Rosinvar S.A, because my husband was a partner in the company and I went to work in the construction of the farm in Cotacachi. I can say that I have always been involved in the flower growing world, because I have always lived in Cayambe and have had many friends who were within this world.

I met and married a flower grower in 1989 and it was through him that I learned about selection, cultivation, management, marketing, etc. My whole family lives around the flower growing sector.

Like all businesses in the world, this one also has its good and bad moments. Since the Russian crisis began in late 2014, the management of flower growing businesses became more complicated, because we must manage them efficiently, trying to cut costs but still hold our quality.

These circumstances complicated the unfoldment of flower growing farms, since a large amount of labor force and supplies are needed in which a company cannot stop investing; without counting on the cash flow it became slow because the customers took longer to pay due to the crises they each face in their countries.

The flower growing business will always be threatened by different circumstances that arise within foreign markets; as you may remember, several times we have had to face crisis in the countries where we get to with our products, but this is where we have to put much of our tenacity, determination and resourcefulness to make things dead-on and to be able to keep on going, since many families in our country depend on us.

It is essential that all flower growing businesses be them large, medium or small, work under the same conditions, that is, with the same governmental and business demands that we, as a formal enterprise, have; which are, paying royalties for the varieties we exploit, taking care of our staff and paying taxes and obligations to the government.

In this way we can guarantee that the price of the flowers is similar between all of us and thereby we will avoid unfair competition.

In this activity, 60% of the staff from these companies are women and we fulfill a great number of roles, from the female employees in cultivation which are responsible for handling their plants, through those in post harvesting which are responsible for the packaging of the flowers, to those in the administrative and commercial areas which are always involved giving, each one of us, our touch of care and love.

It is important to point out that the economic situation of the families in those sectors where flowers are produced has substantially improved because we contribute economically to our homes.

I can say that thanks to the flower growing business I have many things; on the personal side to have met my wonderful life partner, my husband with whom I have formed my home with two children; as well as to have great friends which are part and involved in this world.

On the business side, to have my business and count with the support of our employees who, on the course of time, have become part of our lives.

I can say that the flower growing business is our way of life and that we are at the farm every day of the year.

Я была вовлечена в мир цветоводства с 1995 года, когда я начала работать в Rosinvar s.à, потому что мой муж был партнером компании и пошел работать над конструкцией плантации Котакачи. Я могу сказать, что я всегда была вовлечена в мир цветоводства, так как всегда жила в Каямбе и у меня было много друзей из этой сферы. Поскольку русский кризис начался в конце 2014 года, управление цветоводства компаний стало более сложным, потому что мы должны были управлять им эффективно, пытаясь сократить издержки, удерживая качество. Это условие затрудняет развитие цветоводства, так как большое количество труда и материалов, в которые компания не может прекратить инвестиции, без денежных притоков стали замедлятся, поскольку выплаты у клиентов занимает больше времени из-за кризиса, с которым они столкнулись. Бизнес цветоводства будет всегда находиться под угрозой различных обстоятельств, возникающих на внешних рынках, как вы помните, несколько раз нам пришлось столкнуться с кризисом в странах, куда мы прибыли с нашими продуктами, но это то, куда мы должны направить наше упорство, решимость и изобретательность, чтобы сделать все правильно и идти вперед, так как многие наши семьи зависят от нас в нашей стране. Крайне важно, чтобы все цветочные компании, крупные, средние или мелкие, работали в тех же условиях, то есть с теми же государственными и бизнес-требования, которые имеют формальные предприятия, т.е. платить лицензионные платежи эксплуатироваемого сорта , заботясь о наших сотрудниках и уплате налогов и обязательств перед правительством. Таким образом, мы можем гарантировать одинаковую цену цветка и тем самым избежать недобросовестной конкуренции между компаниями.

В этой сфере, 60% сотрудников компании составляют женщины и выполняют множество ролей из тех, от работников культивации , которые несут ответственность за управление своими растениями, до послеуборочного процесса, которые несут ответственность за упаковку цветов и работниц административной и коммерческой области , всегда участвуя, давая наши заботу и любовь во всех областях, обратите внимание, что экономическое положение семей в районах, где производятся цветы значительно улучшилось, потому что мы денежно поддерживаем наши дома. Я могу сказать, что благодаря цветоводству у меня есть много вещей; в личной жизни я встретила моего замечательного партнера, моего мужа и сформировала свой дом с двумя детьми, также имею много друзей, участвующих в этой сфере. На деловой стороне у меня есть моя компания и имею поддержку наших сотрудников, которые в течение времени стали частью вашей жизни, я могу сказать, что растениеводство это наш образ жизни, и мы проводим на плантации круглый год.

En días pasados se hizo la presentación de un sistema mecanizado de clasificación de rosas. Los incrementos de los costos de mano de obra y otros insumos en la industria de la floricultura, hace que veamos opciones para disminuir costos de producción. Dentro de esa línea la empresa BERCOMEX de Holanda invitó a un grupo de técnicos a una presentación de las bondades de estos equipos y como podría ayudar a las plantaciones a mejorar el procesamiento de las flores en postcosecha y obtener buenos resultados, por velocidad y ahorro de dinero.

La empresa BERCOMEX tiene más de veinte años desarrollando sistemas especializados, fruto de la unión de tres grupos empresariales que unieron sus conocimientos para mejorar el desarrollo de este tipo de tecnología.

Se trata de un equipo que puede procesar hasta nueve mil tallos hora cuyo sistema cuenta con un grupo de sensores que le permite deshojar/despinar/cortar y un modulo de iluminación UV para combatir agentes patógenos como botrytis y un sistema de recogido mediante deslizadores.

El software de visión alimentado por cuatro cámaras le permite analizar la altura, longitud, grosor y tamaño del botón para garantizar una mejor calidad en la clasificación.

Se puede clasificar hasta treinta parámetros distintos al mismo tiempo, personalizando por tipo de variedad y guardando estas configuraciones para facilitar el intercambio de variedades.

En Septiembre del 2016, se instalará un equipo en Naranjo Roses, empresa que apuesta por buscar optimizar los recursos y trabajar en mejorar los costos de producción. Felicitamos esta iniciativa.

FLORES E INNOVACIÓN SOCIAL Floreciendo con responsabilidad…

La Responsabilidad Social, es un tema de real importancia para el sector floricultor, debido a la conciencia y necesidad de mantener un comportamiento socialmente responsable que permita contribuir al Desarrollo Sostenible; en dicho sentido, Expoflores y sus socios, entienden la responsabilidad social, como una forma de gestión, definida por la relación ética y transparente con los públicos que se relaciona, estableciendo metas que impulsen el desarrollo sustentable de la sociedad. Desde el Departamento de RSE se ha implementado y desarrollado iniciativas como: 1. RED DE RESPONSABILIDAD SOCIAL FLORÍCOLA Busca, articular las diferentes iniciativas que tienen las empresas, a fin de replicarlas y ampliar su ámbito de acción. Se destacan temas relacionados con los trabajadores y su familia, certificaciones nacionales e internacionales, medio ambiente, relación con la comunidad y los GAD parroquiales, cantonales y provinciales. Cada dos años, Expoflores, reconoce a las empresas floricultoras socias que se han destacado en temas de responsabilidad social, resaltando especialmente sus buenas prácticas.

2. ACCIONES PERMANENTES CON EMPRESAS SOCIAS DESDE RSE • Espacios educativos, recreativos, para hijos de trabajadores/ “Espacios para Crecer” tiene por objetivo implementar en las comunidades de incidencia de las fincas, lugares donde los hijos de trabajadores, luego de la escuela, puedan realizar sus tareas, refuerzo escolar, actividades de desarrollo personal y actividades artísticas.

• Ejecución de campamentos vacacionales para hijos de trabajadores de floricultoras.

• Convenios de cooperación universidades, institutos, centros médicos con benéficos de descuentos para trabajadores y sus familias.

• Campañas de atención integral a trabajadores floricultores con discapacidad. Tienen por objetivo, mejorar las condiciones de las personas con discapacidad que trabajan en las empresas floricultoras.

• Información y capacitación a trabajadores en temas como: Habilidades blandas, desarrollo personal, clima laboral, salud preventiva, violencia de género, prevención en el consumo de drogas, VIH, etc.

• Difusión y transferencia de buenas prácticas de RSE. Estas iniciativas están relacionadas con sus grupos de interés, trabajadores, comunidad, gobiernos locales y proveedores.

3. PROYECTO EDUCAFUTURO Expoflores, a través del área de RSE, ejecuta el proyecto binacional Ecuador-Panamá “EducaFuturo”. Tiene por objetivo, aportar a la permanencia educativa y la reducción del trabajo infantil en las poblaciones indígenas y migrantes en la provincia de Imbabura, zonas de incidencia del sector floricultor en la zona. Actualmente, existe una cobertura de 600 niños y niñas, 450 familias, 100 maestros, 50 actores locales y fincas de flores participantes en la Red de RSE. El proyecto trabaja en 4 componentes: educativo, medios de vida, política pública y relaciones interinstitucionales. Dicho proyecto se desarrolla en alianza estratégica con Partners of the Américas.

4. ALIANZAS ESTRATÉGICAS • Pacto Mundial de las Naciones Unidas.

Expoflores y sus socios se encuentran comprometidos con la aplicación de los diez principios universalmente aceptados para promover la Responsabilidad Social Empresarial (RSE) en las áreas de Derechos Humanos, Normas Laborales, Medio Ambiente y la Lucha contra la Corrupción. Desde este espacio, continuaremos contribuyendo al complimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, ODS • Alianza ONU Mujeres de las Naciones Unidas Actividades en pro de la igualdad de género, prevención y erradicación de la violencia contra la mujer, trabajando el empoderamiento de las mujeres en todos sus espacios, trabajo/fincas, comunidad, familia. El sector de la floricultura está conformado en más del 50% por trabajadoras.

Promovemos la Campaña “Mujer florece sin violencia”, que busca articular acciones que permitan encaminar la consolidación de un sector floricultor libre de violencia en contra de la mujer.

•

Red de Empresas Libres de Trabajo Infantil Expoflores es el primer gremio en el país que forma parte de la Red de Empresas por un Ecuador Libre de Trabajo Infantil. Desde el sector floricultor existe un compromiso permanente para combatir esta problemática en las zonas de incidencia del sector.

5. ACCIONES PERMANANTES EN LAS EMPRESAS A través de sus departamentos de Talento Humano, se promueven diferentes iniciativas que aportan al bienestar de los trabajadores y las comunidades de incidencia entre los que destacamos: Trabajadores e hijos de trabajadores • Conformación de comités de trabajadores, que se encargan de gestionar, servicios de farmacia, comisariato, útiles escolares.

• Capacitación a los trabajadores en temas de violencia de género, salud y seguridad, educación sexual, consumo de drogas, etc.

• Agasajos navideños (juguetes, caramelos, obras de teatro), día del niño visitas de observación a zoológicos, museos, cine, etc.).

• Campamentos vacacionales (talleres teatro, cine, manualidades, salidas de observación, participación, deportes).

• Bonos económicos a trabajadores por buen desempeño.

• Becas educativas a hijos de trabajadores (útiles escolares y uniformes).

• Implementación de centros de cómputo en escuelas donde asisten hijos de los trabajadores de flores.

• Servicio de transporte a los trabajadores.

• Servicio de alimentación a los trabajadores (desayuno, almuerzo, refrigerios).

• Atención médica a los trabajadores (trimestrales, semestrales y anuales), adicional al servicio médico permanente.

• Implementación de áreas deportivas para los trabajadores.

• No contratación de trabajadores menores de 15 años.

• Control del trabajo infantil en la cadena de proveedores.

COMUNIDAD • Atención médica de niños de centros infantiles.

• Programas de capacitación pedagógica y nutricional para promotoras de los centros infantiles.

• Equipamiento de centros infantiles comunitarios con baterías sanitarias, cocinas, inmobiliario.

• Implementación de centros de computación en comunidades-juntas parroquiales.

II CUMBRE MUNDIAL DE FLORICULTURA Entre el 14, 15 y 16 de Junio, en Tabacundo se llevó acabo la este importante evento organizado por la Asociación de graduados de El Zamorano.

Se impartieron varias conferencias con temas muy importantes como: - Inductores e Resistencia mediante Moléculas Químicas y Biológicas, por Antonio León.

- Los Catalizadores órgano minerales en la disponibilidad de los nutrientes fijados en los coloides del suelo, por Washington Padilla.

- Aplicación de tecnología espectroscópia Raman para detección temprana de plantas enfermas infectadas con virus, impartida por Patricia Garrido y Luis Ramos.

- Práctica en manejo de empaque de cartón corrugado, por Carlos Barrera.

- Agricultura de precisión, uso de Drones, por Andrea Zorzi.

- Análisis de suelo y foliares. Su interpretación y consejos prácticos, por José Luis Pantoja.

- Manejo de la fertirrigación en el cultivo de rosas bajo invernadero, por José Acosta.
