Jennifer Weiner at the Free Library

nternational bestselling author and hometown favorite Jennifer Weiner has written close to a dozen books about love, loss, family and everything in between. Her stories— mostly culled from her day-to-day life—offer complicated characters living real and honest lives under extraordinary circumstances. This week, Weiner celebrates the release of her latest novel, Who Do You Love, an intimate tale about two people living vastly different lives—but who nonetheless have an unusual connection after a chance encounter when they were kids. Weiner, who grew up in Connecticut but calls Philly home, has worked as a reporter in central Pennsylvania, in Kentucky and at The Philadelphia Inquirer. She’s currently a contrib-

Her books have spent more than five years on the New York Times bestseller list and have sold more than 11 million copies in 36 countries, and her 2002 novel In Her Shoes was turned into an award-winning movie starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette and Shirley MacLaine. Weiner will be reading excerpts from the book and signing copies. Stick around for a Q&A after the reading.

“HIPSTER HUNKS” IntervIews: Timaree SchmiT • PhotograPhy: JaSon melcher • location: TaTTooed mom

“Meet” the “hottest” “quirky” “dudes” that “Philly” has to “offer.”

F

or years now, we’ve been watching with a potent mélange of curiosity, nerd-scorn and reluctant arousal as our friends at the Philadelphia Daily News have celebrated each summer by publishing their annual photo spread of the city’s so-called Sexy Singles. It’s not the people themselves we roll our eyes at—they seem, by and large, lovely. No, the part that always triggers our sarcasm reflex is the idea that something as complex as human sexual attraction can be summed up in several dozen glamour photos that fall comfortably within a narrow, media-moderated range of beauty standards. Then when we think about it some more, we consider the further possibility that maybe we’re just really, really pissed that we never make the list, and that we get snarky about it and start deconstructing it like a bunch of over-caffeinated English majors as a defense

10 | Philly Weekly | August 5 - 12, 2015 | phillyweekly.com

mechanism to safeguard our own self-esteem, which, you know, is something that culture journalists totally do on a regular basis. Either way, the point is that when the mass media tries to tell us what sexy in Philly looks like, we find ourselves simmering with an artisanal brew of craft skepticism that only boils more furiously when we remember that we are also the mass media. Facepalm. And so, this week, we’re embracing that irony the most ironic way we can: by introducing you to Philly Weekly’s inaugural showcase of “Hipster Hunks.” (Yes, those are air quotes. Yes, you have to make them every time you say it. Yes, we sympathize with your carpal tunnel syndrome.) Who are these “Hipster Hunks?” They are performers and pizza men; coders and coffee experts; pretty boys and slacker messes. They are the confoundingly

charismatic faces you may spot while roaming NoLibs, Fishtown, West Philly and East Passyunk. Perhaps most importantly, they are somewhat “dubious” about this “honor,” as can be seen in their responses to learning of it via Facebook group message:

Timaree Schmit: Hey, gentlemen! You’re receiving this message because you were nominated by someone to be featured in Philly Weekly’s “Hipster Hunks” issue. Please rest assured that this should be taken entirely as a compliment.

Brettzo: Hipster? I’m not even going to mention having a ten-year-old moustache and being a comic-book-reading fanboy since I could well, read. Wait. Crap. These shoes fit quite nice once I lace them up.

Dain Saint: I was denying being a hipster before it

7

was cool.

Patrick Shillenn: So much heat coming off this thread. If anyone can’t take it, they should get out of the kitchen. (The kitchen is a basement show)

5

Will Stallwood: Ugh. Late to the thread, my bad. I had to invent a phone that runs off vegan power and find my oversized Warby Parker glasses I stole off Adam Teterus. We hope, amid all the blaséer-than-thou self-deprecation of the next couple pages, you’ll “enjoy” getting to “know” these “fine,” “upstanding” “paragons” of “the city’s” “cultural relevance.” We sure did.

F I V E B EERS ON TAP

IT’S NATIONAL IPA DAY!

1

Neshaminy Creek The Shape of Hops to Come. If you’re going to celebrate National IPA

Day on Thurs., Aug. 6—and if you’re reading this we hope you will be—you’re going to want to do it right. A good way to start is with a big, dank, locally brewed double IPA that is becoming as sought out around here as some of those elite IPAs in New England are: The Shape of Hops to Come by Neshaminy Creek. If you like big IPAs with thick, sweet malts and resinous, sticky hops that finish with a stab of bitterness, you’ll appreciate this DIPA. It’s juicy up front, with pine-laden aromatics hop lovers will enjoy, but it’s balanced with plenty of grainy malts. Hit up watering holes like Local 44, Revolution House, Madira and Bainbridge Barrel House to grab some before it’s gone.

2

Russian River Blind Pig. National IPA

Day wouldn’t be a thing without beers like Russian River’s Blind Pig. It’s one of the defining West Coast IPAs, which as a whole have been more influential on modern American craft beer than any other style. Toasted malts and a bit of caramel are there to provide balance, but the star of the show are hops, hops, and more hops. Loads of citrus, a little pine resin, lots of fruity goodness, and a touch of joy make this a hop lover’s showcase. The body is downright thin, too, keeping the focus on what you want: HOPS! Get thee to the legendary Monk’s to grab some on draft before it’s gone (until next time).

3

Spellbound IPA. New Jersey may not be

known as a Mecca for great IPAs, but folks like those at Spellbound, located just across the river in Mt. Holly, are looking to change that with their flagship Spellbound IPA. Pouring an offwhite color with a big foamy head, this is a crisp, dry IPA that features pleasant notes of tropical fruit, malts like toasted Wonder Bread, and a clean finish. It’s the kind of IPA you order when you want some good conversation over a few appetizers with friends—and isn’t that what National IPA Day is all about? Try some at Bainbridge Barrel House and Crafty’s Tap Room.

4

Stone Cali-Belgique. The IPA used to be a fairly specific thing, There were English style IPAs (the traditional style) and American style IPAs (the hoppier newcomers), and that was it. These days we’ve added black IPAs, white IPAs, double IPAs, session IPAs, and other sub-styles into the mix. Stone’s Cali-Belgique is another. In this case it’s a Belgian-style IPA, which means it’s brewed like an IPA but fermented with Belgian yeast. The biggest twist comes in the aroma, which has hints of bubblegum and dough courtesy of that aforementioned yeast. The hops come on strong in each sip, though they’re balanced by grassy herbal notes and hints of pepper. Try some when City Tap House brings some in for their Aug. 17 Stone event.

5

Green Flash Hop Odyssey Citra Session IPA. At a mere 4.5 percent ABV but still

packing in heaping helpings of hops, Green Flash’s beer with a long name is an ideal way to have one more without tipping yourself over the edge. The aroma is mildly tropical, but the taste has juicy zip, bringing to mind grapefruit, pineapple, and lemon peel. There’s a bitter bite on the end, too, reminding you that this beer was built with taste in mind. If you still haven’t been convinced by a session IPA, add this one to your list, or swing by Good Dog, Jon’s Bar & Grille or The Industry to try some on draft. | ERIC SAN JUAN 14 | Philly Weekly | August 5 - 12, 2015 | phillyweekly.com

Spirits of Summer Five liquors to freshen up your home bar.

I

n my house, the summer-drinking season typically means plenty of gin and tonics, healthy doses of rum and tequila—not together—and enough American whiskey to kill a small rhinoceros. Or it would be if I were to actually swallow it all—which I don’t. See, as a correspondent for various beveragecentric magazines, I am the insanely lucky beneficiary of a somewhat regular cascade of spirits samples that arrive at my house via various package-delivery services. Recently, I began to worry that my UPS guy must think I have a serious drinking problem, so I tried to explain that I actually spit out most of the booze I taste for review purposes. He looked even more horrified at that than he did when he thought I was a raging drunk. Here are the some of the most exciting, interesting, or just plain delicious tipples I’ve sampled recently. Look for them at better bars and cocktail lounges in Philadelphia, at PLCB stores, or, if you live or work over the bridge, at liquor shops in New Jersey or Delaware. They’re more than worth the search.

Roca Patrón

Unlike the Patrón you’ve been drinking for years, Roca Patrón is solely produced from agave that has been crushed with a two-ton tahona, a volcanic stone wheel. It’s then distilled in copperpot stills along with the fiber from the agave. The result is a line of tequila that’s both deeply expressive and exceptionally complex. On its own or in a cocktail—or simply with a splash of seltzer water and a wedge of lime—I’ve become a serious fan of Roca Patrón.

The London Gin No. 1

You can pretty easily make the argument that a great gin and tonic is among the most perfect summertime cocktails in the canon. The problem is that it’s devilishly difficult to make a really good one. The ratio of gin to tonic, the interaction of whatever two brands you tend to gravitate toward, the garnish—to squeeze or not to squeeze the lime, that is the question—all of this conspires to render a truly memorable G&T a rare, notable thing. Recently, I’ve been working my

By Brian Freedman @WineUpdate

way through a fantastic bottle of this unexpectedly blue-tinted beauty. It’s smooth, floral yet not overly perfumed, and great either on the rocks or with a bit of Fever-Tree Tonic.

Bluecoat Barrel Reserve American Dry Gin

As if we didn’t have enough culinary reason to be proud of our increasingly buzzed-about city, along comes this gorgeous gin, honey-colored from its time in American oak barrels. This one is perfect not just for gin lovers—its citrus and floral notes are impeccably calibrated—but also for fans of whiskey who are looking for a point of entry into the world of gin. Imagine the classic character of Bluecoat’s standard bottling, but overlaid with flavors of caramel, honey, and vanilla. Nice. Very nice.

WhistlePig Old World Straight Rye Whiskey

As rye has grown in popularity in recent years, more and more variations have been hitting the market. This is a good thing, because rye was, for far too long, the recipient of way too little love among whiskey drinkers. All of that has changed, thankfully, and this bottling—aged 30 percent in Sauternes barrels, 63 percent in Madeira barrels, and 7 percent in Port barrels—is 100 percent phenomenal. It’s spicy and sweet, with a silky texture and a finish that lingers like a particularly pleasant memory.

Belle Meade Bourbon from Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery

I first fell for this beautiful bourbon on a trip to Nashville a few months ago. It boasts a high amount of rye in the mash bill, a perfect amount of sweetness to balance out the spice, and a finish that practically demands you drink a second glass. It’s a little more difficult to find locally, but if you keep your eyes open for it, I have a hunch that you’ll come across it sooner or later. And when you do, order a glass, neat or on the rocks. Either way, you’ll be happy you did. n

This is grown folk’s business right here, and not just ‘cause the word “boozy” is in it. Yes, the base of this treat is brown ale vanilla ice cream from the Franklin Fountain right up its side alleyway, but this after-dinner delight’s got a few little refined elements that crumbsnatchers are too immature to appreciate just yet—among them salted caramel, a malt pretzel-peanut crunch and a honey whipped cream that needs to be bottled and sold on its own, like the beers being brewed on 2nd Story’s second story. It’s the amalgamation of sauces that help melt the sundae’s ice cream; swirled together, you’ve really got something worth shouting about. Enjoy it after diving into a satisfying crab or speck-specked fig and pear salad, the latter’s mound of dressed arugula a healthy, guilt-repellant precursor to some dessert decadence. Who it’s for: Beer lovers, ice cream connoisseurs, strolling tourists, Old City stoners looking for a munchie. Where to get it: 2nd Story Brewing Co., 117 Chestnut St. 2ndstorybrewing.com —S.L.

The Verano Adentro at Cantina Dos Segundos

It may have been hotter than July out there over the past week or so, but life’s been as cool as a cucumber in the dimly lit Cantina Dos Segundos, where use of the water-rich elongated fruit has made their fantastic Verano Adentro margarita one of its most popular items since Day One. The cocktail’s name loosely translates to “endless summer,” an amazingly apropos moniker, given its spectacular refreshment factor: Tequila and Combier orange liqueur enjoin with cucumber slices and jalapeno slivers to make for one of the tastiest drinks of this—or any—season, which explains why so many pitchers of this seeds-dotted stunner sat atop tables. Oh, and do order it by the pitcher to save your server the trouble of return trips to the bar. This memorably bracing baby may actually delude you into thinking that summer, indeed, has no end date. Who it’s for: NoLibs Mexican food diehards, margarita aficionados, fans of both sweet and heat. Where to get it: Cantina Dos Segundos, 931 N. Second St. 215.629.0500. cantinadossegundos.com —S.L.

Dear Meek Mill: You’re better than this An open letter to the Philly MC who put beef with Drake on the music-scene menu. bY CHRIS wILDER @CeeWild

D

ear Rahmeek, I caught your tweets a couple weeks back, when you started going in on your girlfriend’s ex, Safaree SB Samuels. I get it. I know how it is when you get hyped over your girl and don’t want any other men in the mix. Especially when you’re still promoting your Dreams Worth More Than Money album. Samuels was in a rap group in the past, but he’s not an MC today, so your beef with him won’t make its way onto mixtapes. Yes, he was with your woman, Nicki Minaj, for several years, so I suppose it’s fine to go at him, if you must. But what were you thinking when your stream of consciousness, which was apparently all making its way to your Twitter page, went off on a tangent about Drake? “Stop comparing Drake to me too.... He don’t write his own raps! That’s why he ain’t tweet my album because we found out!” —11:46pm 21-Jul 2015 Drake may not write all or any of his lyrics, but like with every rapper before him that’s used ghostwriters, that is the sort of thing that is known as an industry secret. Other rappers may know. Producers may know. But that is information you keep to yourselves. Not ‘cause it’s shameful—it’s simply immaterial nowadays. Honestly, I don’t think your intention was to get caught up in a major rap battle. It seems to me that you were just calling Drake out, and that was supposed to be that—but as I’m sure you already know, in hip-hop, that’s never the case. You must’ve anticipated that Drake was going to respond accordingly. You’re a lover of rap music, so I’m sure you’re aware of just what it means when MCs have beef. Going all the way back to The Sugarhill Gang vs. The Furious Five, rappers took their problems with each other straight to the mic, whether in the studio, on the stage or even on the radio, as Saafir the Saucee Nomad and Casual so famously did—for nearly an hour—on Sway and Tech’s “The Wake Up Show” on KMEL back in the early ‘90s, backed up by their respective Hobo Junction and Hieroglyphics crews. Among the many skirmishes since then, we’re lucky to have seen Jay-Z and Nas go at it in a no-holdsbarred battle that gave us classic records like “Ether” and “Supa Ugly;” Biggie and Tupac take their hostilities from the stage and the studio to the press, and even Li’l Kim versus Foxy Brown, a conflict that ended in a shootout up at Hot 97 in New York. What all of these battles have in common is that the rappers involved stepped up their game and made sure to come correct when they got their chance to go at the enemy. Every one of them was considered nice on the mic and had loads of fans before these confrontations, yet they all treated their battle as though they had something to prove. That’s not happening here. Sure, we have two good MCs,

but after Drake dropped “Charged Up,” then “Back to Back” immediately afterward, a couple more days passed before you finally dropped “Wanna Know,” but by then it was too late: The Internet had already declared Drake the hands-down winner. Now, social media may have called this bout, but what we witnessed, in no way, was a clash of the titans. You and Drake both make hit records and have fans that number in the millions, but neither of you brought your A-game. This lil’ tussle won’t come up in conversation when rap historians discuss Common demolishing Ice Cube with “The Bitch In Yoo” or 50 Cent’s dismantling of Ja Rule on “Back Down.” You both have done better, Meek. And the smartest thing Drake did was to use a jpeg of the Toronto Blue Jays’ Joe Carter celebrating the series-winning homerun over the Phillies in the 1993 World Series as the artwork for “Back To Back.” He didn’t hit it out of the park, but he did get on base. “Wanna Know” sort of grounded out. Next time, man, swing hard, for the fences—or, you know, chill in the dugout. ‘Cause hip-hop fans deserve a more exciting, better executed game than this. Yours truly, all the way from South Philly, Chris

Countdown to the burn Philly’s weird art community prepares for the annual trek to Burning Man. by LoREndA knISEL

@Lucid_Lorenda

T

here’s still about a month to go before “The Man”—a 40-foot-tall wooden effigy—will go up in flames during the pyrotechnic climax of Burning Man, the annual arts festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert that draws tens of thousands of people from around the world. But Burning Man is no mere spectator art event; it’s a participatory act of largescale creation, and the so-called “burners” who’ll spend Aug. 30 to Sept. 7 building and living within its temporary avant-garde metropolis—including lots of artists from the Philadelphia area—have been preparing their pilgrimages all year long. For locals who might want to consider attending Burning Man for the first time, there are several regional groups that help introduce newbies (“virgins”) to what many describe as a life-changing experience.

AT THE FESTIVAL

The official Philadelphia Burning Man Community—Philly Burners, for short—is an active group made up of both longtime burners and virgins who plan art projects and theme camps for the festival, as well as attending local burner events together. 20 | Philly Weekly | August 5 - 12, 2015 | phillyweekly.com

“Anyone is welcome to join the Philly burner group,” says regional representative Sharon D’Angelo, a.k.a. Sharyn’ Giggles. A 12-year veteran of the festival, she helps guide Burning Man virgins through the process of figuring out what they need to know before they plan to spend the week in the desert: both practical needs like travel and childcare, and artistic networking to connect would-be participants with the burner groups that reflect their specific interests, from installation art to fire performance. D’Angelo advises Burning Man attendees to “be radically self-reliant, get involved in a local project. Be smart. Be safe. Go with the flow and enjoy yourself.” Every year, Burning Man has an overarching art theme, and burners may dress in costumes or create theme camps or art projects to reflect the theme. This year’s theme is “Carnival of Mirrors”—and the Philly Burners have responded by creating a project called the Philly Phreak Show Museum of Oddities and Curiosities. Chosen as the official Philadelphia Regional Burning Man Midway Project, it will receive prime placement at the base of The Man alongside other regional groups’ projects that represent their communities.

The Philly Phreak Show, inspired by the artists’ fondness for the famed Mütter Museum of medical specimens in Center City Philadelphia, will display art and “oddities,” some real and some fabrications—including a Fiji mermaid, a mummy fairy, taxidermy artistry, conjoined twins in a jar, X-ray art, a palmistry case, a tribal-painted cow skull, a finger amputation kit, a vampire hunter’s fang collection, the head-in-the-hole photo booth and more. “Curiosity will lure you into our tent of rarities,” the Philly Burners’ artist statement reads, “where peculiar phenomena will be rejoiced as you connect with the oddity of humanity.” Expect to see a variety of sideshow performances including contortion, human blockhead, bearded lady, stiltwalkers and jugglers. Another burner group who’ll represent Philly at Burning Man this year are the fire performers collectively known as Aish Tamid, who’ll perform in the Great Circle fire conclave before The Man burns. “There will be about 1,300 performers around The Man, all spinning fire at the same time,” says Aish Tamid’s leader Brian McBriarty, who’s a seven-time veteran of the scene. Those performers, he says, will include fire breathers, poi, staff, hoops, dragon staff, fire fans, acrobatics wearing wrist bracers on fire, acro yoga with palm torches, and partner fire both in poi and in dragon staff. “It’s an amazing spectacle.”

BURNING BACK HOME

In addition to joining meetups with the Philly Burners group at the festival itself, there are many other events burners can attend to feel the Burning Man spirit throughout the year. “There’s a great Burning Man community here in Philly,” McBriarty says. “It feels like family whenever I go out to an event: hugs and smiles everywhere. There are plenty of local events which help bring the community together as well as provide an avenue for artist

expression.”

The Philadelphia Experiment, a.k.a. PEX, is the largest burner group in Philly and has been throwing parties for more than a decade. Burners around the northeast and beyond look forward to PEX’s annual Halloween, Heartburn (for Valentine’s Day) and Magic Garden parties in addition to the PEX Summer Festival that takes place over Fourth of July weekend. PEX’s DJs can also be heard spinning house music at the monthly PEX vs. Playloop events at Silk City. The official Burning Man Mid-Atlantic Regional Burn, also ongoing for more than a decade, is the Playa del Fuego festival. It draws burners from Philly and other regions to Townsend, Del. for its spring and fall events every year. A newer burner event gaining momentum is the Burning Woman festival scheduled for Sept. 17-20 at Ruhe Farm in Emmaus, Pa. Other regional burns and events attended by Philly burners include Sunburn, Transformus, Frostburn, Portal Burn, Wicker Man, Freeform Arts Festival, Figment, Bangarang and others. Many also attend burner events in New York City by the groups Kostume Kult and Disorient. In recent years, Disorient has teamed up with Space Pirates to create the Philly party “20,000 Beats Under the Sea.” For the next ten days, the local burners who are prepping the Philly Phreak Show for Burning Man are continuing to collect oddities that they’ll display as part of the big exhibit. Donations of art and oddities may still be made up until Aug. 14 before they must be shipped to Burning Man; email Phreak Show art lead Kimberlee Traub at traubk@gmail.com for information on how to donate. The oddities may also be brought to Burning Man and placed on a shelf at the Phreak Show. “We want freak-show-style oddity art,” Philly Burners’ D’Angelo says. “We welcome the weird.” n More info: facebook.com/groups/phillyburners

To love or to leave?

D

oes a person who acts loving only when high on weed really love you? My live-in boyfriend of three years acts sweet, loving, and caring when he’s high, but when the weed runs out, he’s mean, angry, hurtful and horrible to be around. I’ve asked him when he’s stoned to still act like a loving person when the weed runs out, but of course that never happens. He just dismisses that he’s mean and hurtful, and he blames me for why he’s angry. Should I just make sure he’s always well stocked with his drug? I’ve told all my friends he is no longer the mean asshole he was when I wanted to leave him (but didn’t), and now I’ve convinced everyone that he transformed back into the amazing catch I always knew he was. So basically, in order to save face over not leaving him (and now I can’t for financial reasons), I burned the bridges. —Tensions Highlight Concerns That Relationships Aren’t Perfect Your boyfriend’s problem isn’t weed, THCTRAP, your boyfriend’s problem is asshole. And the fact that you’re covering for him— the fact that you can’t go to your friends for help because you worked so hard to convince them he’s not an asshole—is a very, very bad sign. If being with someone isolates you from the support of your friends, that’s not someone you should be with. Does he love you? Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t—but even if he does, do you want to be loved by someone who treats you like shit? No, you don’t. My advice: DTMFA. But let’s get a second opinion, shall we? “It’s not unusual for people to complain that they feel a little cranky when they run out of weed,” says Dan Skye, editor in chief of High Times magazine. “I know a lot of people who prefer to be high all the time— but if his personality is that different when he runs out of weed, this woman’s boyfriend has problems other than not being high.” Now, there are people out there who self-medicate with pot—in good ways, not bad ways. “I know many people who have dumped their pharmaceuticals for pot,” says Skye, “because pot is a better substance for easing their pain and anxiety. There are no side effects, it’s good at easing pain and it even eases some severe medical conditions. There are people out there who are high all the time, I know hundreds of them, and they are perfectly functional, responsible human beings. We are hardwired as humans to hook up with this plant, and some people hook up with this plant in profound ways. It makes them feel better, it makes them more compassionate and more creative— it makes them better human beings.” But Skye doesn’t think your boyfriend is one of those people, THCTRAP. “If this guy is such a prick when he’s not

high, I’d get rid of him,” says Skye. “Putting your girlfriend in a position where she feels like she has to become your dealer is not acceptable.” I’m a man who is married to a woman. In our 12-year relationship, our sex life hasn’t ever been really active, but after being married, my wife’s sex drive decreased noticeably. She had promised things would improve once we tied the knot. She explained that her upbringing was conservative and she felt guilty about having sex before marriage. But marriage didn’t help. We’ve gone to couples’ therapy, only to abandon it because she doesn’t feel any progress, and our pantry has barely used natural remedies for low libido. Our library has workout DVDs collecting dust after she said she felt too fat to be attractive. Currently, she can last having sex for nearly half an hour before feeling exhausted and stopping, regardless of me reaching orgasm or not. On the other hand, we enjoy each other’s company and we’ve got each other’s backs whenever things are rough, so I can’t say she’s uninterested in me. I can’t remember the last time I had fulfilling sex. Whenever I bring it up, she breaks down, saying she’s not enough for me. My need for sex is killing me. —Unsexed Grumpy Husband Maybe your wife’s religious upbringing ruined sex for her and her for sex. Maybe your wife is one of those low-tono-libido women who sex therapists and counselors whisper about: a woman with no desire for sex, a woman whose marriage is hanging by a thread, a woman who sincerely wants to save her marriage—but nothing seems to help, her marriage collapses, and she winds up divorced. And three months after the divorce, the woman who was weeping to her therapist about the possibility that she might be asexual? She wants every cute bartender, personal trainer and waiter she sees. Turns out she wanted sex all along. She just didn’t want it with her husband, or she didn’t want it with only her husband, and her newfound freedom reawakened her libido. Here are your non-divorce options, UGH: (1) You can get sex elsewhere without her OK, a.k.a. “cheating.” (2) You can ask your wife for permission to get sex elsewhere, a.k.a. “not cheating.” (3) You can resign yourself to a sexless marriage, a.k.a. “cheating inevitably.” P.S. Never once has a conflict over too little sex in a long-term relationship been solved by a marriage ceremony. n
