Thumbs up “This isn’t a political issue. “Some people are tired of hearing me tweet because they want me to stick to football but I like to use social media like I was a regular guy because I think I am. I don’t tell people to stick to their job when they want to talk politics. And this isn’t political. That’s the thing. Everybody is trying to turn this political. This isn’t a political issue. This is right or wrong. I believe you’re on one side or the other. For me, being from Charlottesville, no one wants to see you sit idly by and watch that stuff happen and not say anything. And I wish there was more categorical denial from some very important people in this country who have had the opportunity to strike it down but didn’t. Q — Eagles defensive end Chris Long weighing in on the violent neo-Nazi rallies last weekend that occurred in his hometown of Charlottesville, Va.

Philly stands with Charlottesville News is fast-changing in the aftermath of the white nationalist/neo-Nazi rallies that left three dead in Charlottesville, Va., last week. But Philly leaders and activists were quick to stand up and speak out against what was arguably the most disturbing weekend in the U.S. since President Trump took ofďŹ ce in January. Q
Tweet of the week Chris Long wasn’t the only Eagle to speak out. Safety Malcolm Jenkins took a stand against the president for his tepid, evasive response to events in Charlottesville. Q
“The president said very strongly in his statement yesterday that he condemns all forms of violence, bigotry, and hatred, and of course that includes white supremacists, KKK, neo-Nazi, and all extremist groups. He called for national unity and bringing all Americans together. — That’s the official White House statement, following criticism that Trump failed to explicitly denounce the white supremacists who marched in his name in Charlottesville. Yeah, we’ll believe it when he tweets it. Q

Nazi punks not welcome — the Catholic Church “Racism is a poison of the soul. It’s the ugly, original sin of our country, an illness that has never fully healed. Blending it with the Nazi salute, the relic of a regime that murdered millions, compounds the obscenity. Thus the wave of public anger about white nationalist events in Charlottesville this weekend is well warranted. We especially need to pray for those injured in the violence. “But we need more than pious public

statements. If our anger today is just another mental virus displaced tomorrow by the next distraction or outrage we ďŹ nd in the media, nothing will change. Charlottesville matters. It’s a snapshot of our public unraveling into real hatreds brutally expressed; a collapse of restraint and mutual respect now taking place across the country. We need to keep the images of Charlottesville alive in our memories. If we want a different kind of country in the future, we need to start today with a conversion in our own hearts, and an insistence on the same in others. That may sound simple. But the history of our nation and its tortured attitudes toward race proves exactly the opposite.â€? Q

A screenshot of the apology video created for ICandy owner Darryl DePiano after his racially charged comments sparked controversy last summer.
Fake tears? Years after his racist video surfaced, ICandy owner Darryl DePiano made a professionally produced video apology via You Tube. But how many within the community are buying it? BY TIMAREE SCHMIT
H
alf a decade since it was uttered, almost a year since it surfaced, but the ďŹ restorm caused by a video of ICandy owner Darryl DePiano still burns, despite the many attempts to extinguish the ames. It was the morning of Sept. 26, 2016, when a 4-year-old video of DePiano repeatedly using the N-word in reference to employee Ricky Peterson sent the Gayborhood into a frenzy, which spread around Philadelphia at-large after making the rounds on social media. In the wake of the incident, several drag and burlesque show producers pulled their events from the venue. Activists, including $XJXVW
the Black and Brown Workers Collective, staged protests outside the building and would do so again months later. Others accepted DePiano’s apologetic Facebook post and urged forgiveness. A formal community event was held by the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations that was attended by hundreds of community members. In response to the meeting, ICandy was one of several businesses the PCHR mandated complete anti-racism training. As the anniversary of the inciting incident approaches, how far has the Gayborhood community come? On July 19, ICandy announced a collaboration with Social Life Entertainment LLC, COLOURS Organization, and Black Pride with the intention to “Ensure that ICandy is a welcoming, space for all LGBTQA people of color.â€? To enforce a “Zero tolerance personnel policy for all staff,â€? “ICandy will allow the COLOURS Organization to conduct quarterly cultural competency and anti-oppression trainings.â€? Response from the community, however, is still mixed. Damon Humes of COLOURS argues the collaboration will make the venue safer for patrons of color. Gayborhood activist Stro Kyle called on community leaders to respond while Amber Hikes of the City’s OfďŹ ce of LGBT Affairs replied, “my ofďŹ ce...was approached with this proposal. FOOD
Sweet like honey The love (and celery seed and brown sugar brine) is real at Love & Honey Fried Chicken BY A.D. AMOROSI
N
obody cares about Thai rolled ice cream anymore. Snails and black walnuts never really happened as predicted. No, the one true thing worthy and wonderful about culinary trends and predictions in 2017 that made it out alive (and thriving) is highly personalized fried chicken – and, one of its most known and best loved dispensaries, Love & Honey Fried Chicken at 1100 N. Front St. The Southern-inspired take-out joint nestled within the triangulation of the Market-Frankford EL’s Girard stop and The Fillmore isn’t the only new chicken shack in town. Yet, like its sister in fried brined birds – Federal Donuts – since its inception, there have been lines downand-around the block just to snag a seat at its 15-person counter or to-go dinners and lunches before selling out each day. “We’re very active on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and encourage people to sign up with us, because we swear there’s nothing worse than having people drive all the way from Jersey or someplace far and ďŹ nd we’ve sold out,â€? says Laura Lyons, the wife-chef part of the married Love & Honey team co-starring husband-chef Todd Lyons. Then again, the real star is their fried chicken, a succulently brined, crispy dredge bird with notes of honey, celery seed and paprika in each bite. The buttery sweet cornbread with honey butter and a selection of baked-daily, homemade pies are no slouch either. “Oh, we’re well aware of that,â€? says Laura with a laugh. “For us, this is a partnership,â€? says Laura. “We wanted to be together, work together. Yes, we’re both classically trained chefs – Todd being much more reďŹ ned, me being rustic – so we went round-and-round as to what our place together would be. Yet, we were having these dinner parties with the constant request from our friends being Todd’s fried 3+,/$'(/3+,$:((./< &20
chicken. He did this for years and really perfected his brine.â€? Then there’s the name. “We originally wanted to call it “True Love Fried Chicken, you know the ‘T’ and the ‘L’, it was adorable,â€? she says sarcastically. “We spent money on logos and business cards only to ďŹ nd out T&L is a trademarked barbecue restaurant in Seattle.â€? The Lloyds were crushed, but several “adult beveragesâ€? later, came up with Love & Honey. “That’s good, because True Love doesn’t make any sense for what we do.â€? Then there is the Questlove saga, “the gift that keeps on giving,â€? says Laura of receiving a shout out on social media from The Roots drummer (whose real name is Ahmir Kalib Thompson) after their shop opened. Questlove – himself a one-time purveyor of fried chicken – upon being gifted with a yummy backstage meal of Love & Honey right before the June Roots Picnic gave up kind Instagram words about the L&H lovebirds, and “the crowds never stopped coming. We were doing great already, but starting the weekend of the Roots’ Picnic, we were swamped – our ďŹ rst sell-out weekend,â€? according to Laura. And they haven’t stopped selling out since. What’s in the cards for Love & Honey going forward for the fall is – along with an if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-ďŹ x-it-take on fried chicken – is its promotions for tailgate-ready cold fried chicken, pies that will be more autumnal in avor (apple, pumpkin), seasonal sides (like sprout slaw) and new wing specials. “Plus, we’re a soul food restaurant at heart and with me that means Matzo Ball soup, so we’ll be integrating our chicken into that,â€? says Laura with a laugh. “It’s funny, people say it’s dead in summer, but if crowds like this mean “dead,â€? I think we’re really going to never be home at this point.â€? Q TWITTER: @ADAMOROSI

House GOP member Daryl Metcalfe has done everything from promoting English as the state’s official language to inviting a white nationalist to explain why.
Nazi sympathizers in Harrisburg? It’s OKKK
House GOP sees no issue with ideas of supremacy in Capitol Building BY RYAN BRIGGS
P
eople across the country and the world were stunned by the images of neo-Nazis and other ultra-conservative groups gathering in Charlottesville, Va., for “Unite the Right,â€? a white supremacist rally that culminated with the gruesome murder of counter-protester Heather Heyer. For state Rep. Donna Bullock, the chaotic weekend provoked an unwelcome analogy. She was reminded of her colleague, Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, chair of the House Committee on State Government, defending his decision to invite someone he later called a “white nationalistâ€? to testify at a legislative hearing. “In light of recent events in our country, having leadership that stands by and defends white nationalism should be questioned,â€? she said recently. In 2015, Metcalfe, who frequently describes Pennsylvania as being under attack by “illegal aliens,â€? was promoting a bill to make English the state’s ofďŹ cial language. $XJXVW
During a hearing of the committee he chairs, he invited Robert Vandervoort to testify. Vandervoort was executive director of ProEnglish, which campaigns against bilingual education and against multiculturalism, at the time. Vandervoort is also the former head of the Chicagoland Friends of American Renaissance, a group that promotes a magazine that had been repeatedly described as a white supremacist publication for its promotion of racial science, the pseudoscientiďŹ c belief that empirical evidence exists to support or justify racism. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the group has held joint meetings with the Council of Conservative Citizens, which criticizes miscegenation. When now-convicted state Rep. Leslie Acosta denounced Vandervoort as a “white supremacistâ€? at the time, Metcalfe was outraged. He rushed to the defense, emphasizing that Vandervoort was, in fact, a white nationalist. “It was an email put out alleging that somebody was a white nationalist, which is
quite a bit different from a white supremacist. To say somebody is a nationalist and for the independence of their country and a patriot to defending their country, is a lot different from saying somebody is a racist,â€? Metcalfe said at the time. His statement notably drew seeming approval from white power outlet The Daily Stormer (which was recently booted off its web server in the wake of Charlottesville). In response, Bullock says she doubted there was a worthwhile distinction between the two supposedly distinct ideologies – white nationalists often advocate in favor of white dominance in all aspects of government and society. “He tries to paint a difference between white nationalists and white supremacists. I don’t think there’s much of a difference,â€? she said. Bullock said Metcalfe’s views were more corrosive than equivocation around racist ideologies. His committee is a gatekeeper for bills ranging from tweaks to the election code to political redistricting. “When you have someone who is chairing the State Government Committee who defends white nationalism, you can understand why it’s difďŹ cult to pass legislation that improves the quality of life for people of color,â€? she said. PA Democratic Party spokesperson Beth Melena issued similar criticisms. “Racist views or sympathies have no place in any level of government, let alone society, and individuals who hold those views should not be elevated or validated by being rewarded with leadership roles,â€? she said. “If Metcalfe fails to denounce white supremacy groups, he has no business holding ofďŹ ce or a leadership position.â€? Metcalfe declined comment on the incidents in Charlottesville or his past dalliance with Vandervoort. His social media pages and YouTube channel, “The Metcalfe Minute,â€? which he uses to denounce rising taxes and government waste, today featured him decrying the “regulatory overreachâ€? of the Susquehanna River Basin Committee. Metcalfe was appointed to chair the House Committee on State Government in 2011. Although he predates Mike Turzai’s ascent as House speaker, all committee chairs serve at the pleasure of the speaker. Turzai spokesman Stephen Miskin recently defended the controversial state rep’s continuing committee leadership role. “It’s not like he’s constantly sharing that rhetoric,â€? Miskin said, of Metcalfe. “I would not overstate what had happened, like some on Facebook are trying to do. One individual came and testiďŹ ed at a hearing. In explaining that something
came to light afterward, he made that one comment.â€? He suggested the invitation was possibly accidental. “Basically, when you’re looking for people to testify, you look for these groups that support your position. I guess it wasn’t on his resume and the guy denied he was part of that. It was on, like, Page 3 of his background when the staff was researching it,â€? Miskin said. But he struggled to explain Metcalfe’s defense of the speaker’s credentials and nuanced ideology once his background became known. “You can discern a difference or not. One group believes this premise that the white or Caucasian race is superior to everyone else and the nationalists just want a white or Caucasian majority in the country. I’m not advocating that; that’s just what was explained to me,â€? he said. “It does sound like a nuanced difference but some people believe that. I don’t think it’s right and I don’t think our current leadership or members believe that, including Rep. Metcalfe...When the KKK was coming to march in the Rep’s district, he vehemently fought that.â€? Bullock wasn’t so sure. “When he brought this white nationalist to speak, he cut off my colleague, a woman of color, to let him speak. That’s indicative of his behavior generally,â€? she said. “I have heard some of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle complain about his behavior and that they don’t share his views. It’s unfortunate because he’s one of the louder voices and in committee leadership.â€? Indeed, Metcalfe has drawn frequent criticism for his inammatory rhetoric around illegal immigration, his association with people like Vandervoort, his description of public transit as welfare, and other outlandish legislative proposals. One Republican House staffer said there was indeed anger with Metcalfe’s antics within his own party – but not enough to strip away his leadership roles. “No one will go on the record,â€? the staffer said, on the condition of anonymity. “But the frustration with Metcalfe is palpable.â€? At least one rank-and-ďŹ le member of the House GOP was more than willing to call out Metcalfe: Philadelphia Rep. John Taylor. “I believe white supremacists and white nationalists are synonymous and Daryl should repudiate both and their recent actions because I certainly do,â€? he said. M
ayor Jim Kenney is taking a lawand-order approach to crime – the crime of dumping your garbage on vacant lots, in the street, or anywhere else it doesn’t belong. Last week, the Kenney administration’s Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet – a edgling inter-departmental group that has been tasked with de-littering the streets – released a multilayered action plan to reduce the city’s waste and increase its recycling output by 2035. There’s at least one point of contention: regular citywide street-sweeping, a service Kenney campaigned on bringing back to Philly, isn’t a top priority in the plan. “Street sweeping is an asset, but [litter] is still a challenge,â€? Nic Esposito, the mayor’s Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet’s director, told PW. “If we just put out a plan that said we were just going to do street sweeping, a lot of people would be upset about that.â€? But the Zero Waste plan looks to change bad behavior rather than accommodate it. The ďŹ rst, short-term priority is enforcement against illegal dumping – a problem so deep-rooted in Philly that some resi-
dents feel it has become part of their neighborhood culture. Scroll through some of the recent complaints on the Philly 311 app, and you’ll ďŹ nd dozens of images of garbage bags, construction debris and old tires that literally have been tossed to the curb. Some neighborhoods are hit harder than others. “Living in these areas, you see what’s it like. It’s demoralizing, it’s nasty, it’s dangerous,â€? said Esposito, who lives in Kensington, where vacant lots and sidewalks often double as roadside dumpsters. “Some people might disagree and say that street-sweeping and trash in my gutter is the most important thing in the city right now, and in another part of the city, they’re saying that short-dumping is the most important thing that is happening to us right now. It’s a balance of needs.â€? A recent report from Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful identiďŹ ed three conditions that encourage illegal dumping: a lack of disposal or recycling outlets, ďŹ nancial factors (it costs money to legally dispose of trash), and most importantly with regard to the Zero Waste plan, places where active dumping grounds already exist and the threat of punishment is limited.
Ever put your trash out on the curb a day or two before pickup day and end up with a ticket? OfďŹ cers from the Streets and Walkway Education & Enforcement Program (SWEEP) issued 2,834 citations for “improper set outâ€? last year. Meanwhile, in the same year, residents reported more than 1,000 short-dumping cases, and yet just 12 of those cases resulted in misdemeanor charges. Zero Litter’s aim is to bring 20 illegal dumping cases to court per quarter – roughly 80 per year. In the context of the city’s thousands of illegal dumping cases, that may not seem like a lot, but it’s a matter of resources. Police ofďŹ cers need to be involved to make an arrest for illegal dumping. “A lot of these short-dumpings are happening in police districts where the murder rate is high,â€? Esposito said. “There are a lot of other crimes that are taking precedence over illegal dumping...it’s that hard balance between pure, basic safety and quality of life, and where do they interact.â€? It also presents a ďŹ nancial concern: Philadelphia spends $8 million a year to clean up illegal dumping. Zero Waste’s enforcement recommendations aren’t limited to just short-dumping, however. Esposito said he wants police to give a $300 ticket when people are seen littering from vehicle. Short-dumping alone costs taxpayers more than $8 million annually, at a disposal cost of $619 per ton of trash. Data collection will be an integral part of an increased enforcement policy. The cabinet also believes that geo-located data about dumping sites and high-density litter zones will help guide more policy decisions, so one of their other recommendations is to make a “city-wide litter index.â€? Restoring street sweeping, banning plastic bags, putting out more public waste receptacles – these recommendations are also nested in the 50-page cabinet report, separated by short- and long-term goals. While many will recall the not-exactlyshining success stories of the city’s Big Belly trash cans and the PSA campaign called Unlitter Us, Esposito says the plan will not be siloed within one city department. His cabinet has been charged with keeping various city agencies, from Streets to Parks & Recreation, on track to implement recommendations. “This isn’t just an action plan that came out and now sits on the shelf and everybody goes back to what they were doing,â€? he said. NEWS py, and it would sort of just fall back to where it was,â€? said Jocelyn Hill, the railway’s public affairs director and assistant general counsel. This time, Conrail hopes to make the work “stick,â€? said Hill. But many community advocates and harm reduction specialists have warned that overdose deaths will increase and that more drug use will shift to the streets with the cleanup. They have been airing concerns about ousting users from the tracks, where people tended to look out for one another and where outreach workers frequently visited, knowing where to ďŹ nd users in need.

Threading the needle Tracking the fallout from cleaning up Kensington’s El Campamento BY COURTENAY HARRIS BOND
H
undreds of people once circulated through the notorious drug camp at the edge of Fairhill and Kensington known as El Campamento day and night, living and using or just visiting to buy and get high. But now, it’s mostly empty. On a recent morning, a lone woman huddled in an otherwise abandoned shack. She was smoking something from a crack pipe. After a few minutes, a shirtless man with a leopard tattooed on his back joined her, their smoke wreathing inside the shanty. Nearly everybody else had ed because Conrail, the railway that owns the stretch of tracks El Campamento sits along, was about to bulldoze the enclave as part of $XJXVW
a long-anticipated effort to sanitize and secure the area and make way for new development. Where all the users have gone remains somewhat of a mystery—and a concern to those worried about the human cost of the cleanup. After Philadelphia County suffered 907 fatal overdoses last year, Conrail and city ofďŹ cials ďŹ nally reached an agreement about how to deal with El Campamento and the extensive drug use and debris along a half-mile stretch of tracks. The massive project involves installing fencing and clearing refuse and vegetation along the portion of the railway that had devolved through the decades into shooting galleries and syringe dumping grounds. Conrail conducted smaller-scale cleanups in 2013 and 2015. “But every time we did it, there was entro-
To help the displaced population of homeless individuals and people with substance use disorders, two more camps set up just outside El Campamento in the sweltering heat in early August. About a dozen organizations, ranging from HACE Housing Counseling Services to Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services, offered pamphlets and information to those who visited their tents at Second and Indiana streets for several days. Another outpost at A and Tusculum streets, which will stay open through September or October, was conducting individual needs assessments. Kensington Hospital and Congreso de Latinos Unidos, a community center within the neighborhood, were doing free, on-site HIV testing at Second and Indiana. Congreso’s mobile van had administered approximately 40 tests over the three days, said a representative, Angel Santiago. Both organizations arranged links to care for those who tested positive.
$250,000 Amount the city has ponied up for housing to assist the El Campamento population in addition to adding more beds and a stronger police presence, according to city deputy communications director Alicia Taylor.

Day 1 was busy, outreach workers said. But by Day 2 and 3, the stream of those seeking help slowed to a dribble. The theory? few individuals under the tents talking to outreach workers Wednesday morning. He said he also used to shoot heroin and cocaine, often down on the tracks. But he hasn’t touched either in two years with the help of a low dose of methadone and support from Prevention Point Philadelphia, a Kensington-based needle exchange, social services agency and medical clinic. Paul was on his way to Prevention Point when he saw the tents. “I just walked through, Paul said. “I didn’t know this was going on.
“I’m addicted to heroin and cocaine, and I need help because I want to change my life because I’m losing everything. I lost my family, my wife—everybody. – Paul Rodriguez, former El Campamento resident
Packed up, but nowhere to go Laura set up her belongings on the sidewalk alongside the tents on Indiana Street as outreach workers packed up Tuesday afternoon. She hadn’t accessed any services. Laura said she started taking Percocet years ago for back pain. After getting an artist’s loft in Kensington, she eventually began using heroin. “I might have suffered some post-traumatic stress disorder that hasn’t been properly diagnosed and depression issues, so I think that contributes to it,â€? said Laura, 48, who would only give her ďŹ rst name. Her cardboard sign asked people for food, money or “just a smile.â€? She said she was homeless, living in the “shellâ€? of a nearby house. When asked what she planned to do, Laura said she didn’t know. A few minutes later, Jose Rodriguez wandered into the shade of one of the now empty tents and asked a reporter for assistance. “I’m addicted to heroin and cocaine, and I need help because I want to change my life because I’m losing everything,â€? Rodriguez, 37, said. “I lost my family, my wife—everybody. “My arm is horrible, a line with a lot of holes in itâ€? from repetitive injections over 15 years, Rodriguez said. “I can’t take it anymore. It’s too hard for me.â€? He vowed to come back the next day when outreach workers were due to return. Paul, who would only give his ďŹ rst name, was one of the 3+,/$'(/3+,$:((./< &20
Conditions in the camp Charito Morales, a registered nurse and community advocate, recently led a group from The Salvation Army on a tour of El Campamento. “Do not touch anything, please,â€? she warned the team carefully tramping down the gulch, skirting needles. Flies buzzed around piles of garbage, the stench of human waste rising in the heat. “When it’s raining or pretty cold, they sleep here,â€? Morales said, pulling down a couple of wooden ats from under the Second Street bridge. “They put these down to sleep on top of and comfort each other. “This wasn’t here yesterday,â€? Morales added, pointing to a blood-stained bra near the tracks. “That means a woman was here using or to perform sex.â€? Despite the construction crews rapidly chewing up vegetation and carrying away debris, moving closer to El Campamento each hour, a few users were still coming to the camp, Morales said. Crews travel ahead of the construction workers, checking the overgrowth for people. The cleaning up and securing of the tracks should take one to two months. But getting community members, local organizations and developers moving into the area to collaborate on further improvements and make them last will be an ongoing effort, Conrail’s Hill said. “I’m really hopeful,â€? Hill added. “I’m actually feeling kind of conďŹ dent that we can do something really good here, and I’m excited about it.â€?
But Morales and other harm reduction advocates have been expressing their reservations. “I’ve been asking the government, the city, you want to clean up? I’m all in,â€? Morales said. “But where are we going to place these individuals? They are human beings. They need help.â€? According to Philadelphia deputy communications director Alicia Taylor, the city has enough beds to help those in need. Police have increased bicycle patrols in the area, and the city has designated an additional $250,000 for housing to help this population. “This is a national crisis, and we are taking our efforts very seriously,â€? she said. “Our goal is to be able to help. Unfortunately we can’t make you do anything, but we are providing the necessary services to help people get better.â€? “Unless you come down and see it, you can’t believe it,â€? said the Rev. Bonnie Camarde with The Salvation Army during the El Campamento tour. She and the Rev. Jesse Alejandro, also with The Salvation Army, took a moment in the ďŹ nal hours of the encampment to say a prayer. They were praying again a short while later when back up on Gurney Street, just outside El Campamento and within sight of the outreach tents, a young man overdosed. Luckily, Roberto Reyes, who was biking past, spotted the man as he fell and began to “turn purple.â€? Reyes had Narcan. He administered the ďŹ rst dose. Another Robert, who only wanted to use his ďŹ rst name, gave the victim a second shot and kept the man’s airway open. Robert later said that he was all too familiar with the tragedy that heroin often ends in, having lost a daughter and a girlfriend to substance use disorders. TrafďŹ c clogged the one-lane street, horns honking and sirens wailing as a ďŹ re truck and ambulance tried to cut through to the scene. When ďŹ rst responders arrived, administered oxygen and pulled the man up to stand, he strained away protesting but eventually got into the ambulance. The crowd of anxious onlookers started to break up. Alejandro was in tears. “He made it—he did,â€? she said. “That’s why I’m happy.â€? Robert said he was happy, too, glad his outreach work had brought him to Fairhill that day. “The thing of it is,â€? he said, “this guy won’t remember anything about it. He doesn’t know who I am, and I don’t even know his name.â€? Q TWITTER: @CHARRISBOND $8*867

Patrice Banks used her engineering background and her savvy to open an auto clinic fueled to help women know what to do under the hood.

’ve been wondering: Since there are lesbians out there who occasionally crave cock, does the reverse also happen? Are there gay men who occasionally crave pussy? – This Possible?

There are gay men who watch football—hell, I have it on good authority that some gay men play football, TP. So anything is possible. (Also, there are lots of lesbian-identiďŹ ed bisexual women out there, a smaller number of gay-identiďŹ ed bisexual men, and a tiny handful of bisexual-identiďŹ ed football fans.) I’ve been seeing a lot of articles in the media about men “dropping out of the dating-and-marriage game,â€? and the conclusions always point to porn as the culprit. This seems like a simplistic explanation. Do you have an opinion on the effect of porn on men? – Pondering Porn I dropped out of the forming-opinions-about-porn game—far too busy consuming porn these days, PP. It’s the only way to keep myself sane here in Trumpsylvania. I’m a 26-year-old woman. I started dating a fantastic guy a month ago, blah blah blah, we’ve already talked about marriage. The problem is that his dick isn’t up to par size-wise or stayinghard-wise. He was aware of this before I came along, and it made him an enthusiastic and skilled oral performer to make up for it. So for now everything’s great, plenty of orgasms, and
we’re lovey-dovey. But eventually I’ll need that ďŹ lled-up feeling and I’ll have to ask for some dildo/extender/strapon action. The question is when to ask. He’s a secure guy, and we’ve both been honest about our aws. If I wait too long to ask, it might make him think I’ve been faking the whole time. And if I ask too soon, I could scare him off or make his performance anxiety worse! How do I know when the right time is? – Half Full If you were talking about marriage after a month, HF, odds are good this relationship is doomed anyway. So go ahead and ask for dildo/extender/strapon action now. Don’t say, “Circling back to your subpar dick, darling, I’m gonna need some compensatory dildo action soon.â€? Instead say, “I’m into penetration toys, and I’m looking forward to getting into them with you— getting them into me, getting them into you. Anything you want to put on the menu, darling?â€? Two friends can hook up with a girl or two girls from a bar and have a threesome or a foursome. But can two brothers—with opposite sexual preferences—hook up with a girl and a guy from a bar? Would this be considered wrong? No touching between siblings would occur. – Basic Bros It would be considered wrong by some—but those people aren’t you, your brother, or the girl and guy you hope to pick up together. Personally, BB, I can barely get an erection if one of my siblings is in the same zip code; I can’t imagine getting one with a sibling in the same room. But if you’re comfortable doing opposite-sexual-preference things in close proximity to your brother, go for it. Q
