English Conversation Circle Facilitator Program for Older Adult Immigrants

PURPOSE: To assist participants in the program to achieve greater fluency and confidence in the English language through conversation in an informal group setting.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Facilitate the conversation group sessions using resource kits developed by the program. • Attend and participate in the English Conversation

Facilitators’ orientation and training sessions • Meet with EAL participants on a regular basis as assigned. • Initiate and stimulate conversation during the sessions.

Make every effort to involve each member equally. • Provide participants with encouragement and constructive feedback. • Take group attendance for record, and maintain regular communication with the supervisor to provide session updates and for consultation regarding issues or concerns as needed. Qualifications: Must be culturally sensitive.

• Interest in working with people from different cultures and with seniors. • Leadership skills and experience in group work. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Friendly and welcoming manner

Workshops / peersharing sessions on working in English as an Additional Language (EAL) program are provided.

Supervised by assigned EAL Specialists.

2 hours per week (90 minute session & prep time). 10 weeks commitment preferred.
