One of the advantages of living on an island with a moderate climate is the close proximity of several fine wineries. This year our newly elected Vice-chairperson, Dr. Marilyn Day, (who happens to live in Mill Bay, in the heart of wine country in the Cowichan Valley), organized a wine tour for interested VanIsles members. Ten members met at Enrico’s Winery where we sampled a number of wines and interested members were given a tour of the vineyards. Interestingly enough, the whole orchard was covered with netting to protect the grapes from starlings. Some members then went on to sample the wares of two more wineries - Cherry Point and Rocky Creek - all within a short drive. n
