For 2026, the Creative Retail Awards were held at The Clapham Grand, bringing the industry’s biggest night to one of London’s most distinctive and historic entertainment venues. First opened in 1900 as the New Grand Theatre of Varieties, The Clapham Grand has been entertaining London audiences for more than 125 years. One of the capital’s surviving Victorian music halls, its history has taken it from music hall and variety performances to cinema, live music and major events, with performers including Charlie Chaplin, Oasis and Muse passing through its doors. Its spectacular interior, balconies, dramatic architecture and unmistakable character provided a fitting setting for the Creative Retail Awards — an event built around originality, experience and visual impact. There was a natural connection. Great retail environments do more than simply look good; they create atmosphere, tell stories, surprise audiences and leave lasting impressions. The Clapham Grand has been doing exactly that for generations. On 15 October 2026, the venue welcomed leading retailers, brands, designers, agencies, suppliers and creative talent from across the industry for an evening of awards, entertainment, networking and celebration. A venue with more than a century of spectacle behind it. A night celebrating the creativity shaping retail today.

Independent judging is central to the credibility of the Creative Retail Awards. The organisers have no involvement in scoring or deciding the winners, with every result determined solely by an independent panel of respected industry professionals. The 2026 panel brings together Ian Scott, Retail Consultant & Public Speaker; David Dalziel, Former Executive Creative Director; Andrew Busby, Retail Industry Expert, Speaker & Writer; Judith Kelly, Head of Retail Design and Delivery at Hammerson; Matthew Brown, Retail Futurist at Echochamber; Barbara Chapman, Creative VM Consultant & Stylist; Jack Stratten, Director at Insider Trends; Tim Nash, Shop Drop Daily Curator; and Isabella Fish, Retail Editor at The Times & The Sunday Times. Crucially, judging takes place face to face in London, allowing the panel to discuss, debate and challenge different perspectives before reaching their decisions. It is a process built around genuine industry scrutiny, with the final results resting entirely with the judges. That face-to-face approach also means entries are not considered in isolation. Judges can bring different areas of expertise to the discussion, question assumptions and look more closely at the thinking, execution and impact behind each project. It is this independence, rigour and peer-led assessment that has helped make a Creative Retail Award the most highly respected accolade in the creative retail industry.

SDD SPOTLIGHT AWARD The Shop Drop Spotlight Award celebrates 10 standout UK retail projects featured by Shop Drop Daily over the past 12 months. Curated by Shop Drop Daily’s Tim Nash, the shortlist brought together projects that generated some of the strongest engagement, conversation and interest across the platform. Recognising the creativity, innovation and talent shaping physical retail and brand experiences, the award shines a spotlight on the retailers, brands, agencies and suppliers behind some of the year’s most memorable projects. The final decision was placed in the hands of the public, with a record number of votes cast across the Creative Retail Awards and Shop Drop Daily voting portals.

DR. MARTENS THE ART OF COMFORT EXPERIENCE

The Judges’ Choice Award is a special recognition reserved for a project that truly stood out to the Creative Retail Awards judging panel. Unlike the main award categories, there is no separate entry process or predetermined shortlist. Instead, the award is selected from the projects entered into the Creative Retail Awards, giving the judges the opportunity to recognise an entry they collectively feel deserves additional acknowledgement beyond its original category. For 2026, that project was Holland & Barrett’s Cardiff Experience Store. The judges recognised the store as a significant evolution of the traditional health and wellness retail format, bringing together design, technology, expertise, services and experience within one carefully considered environment. Rather than simply creating a new store, Holland & Barrett has rethought what a physical retail space can offer. Personalised wellness discovery, health services, consultation areas, interactive features and a dedicated wellbeing studio sit alongside the core retail offer, creating a customer journey centred on engagement, education and meaningful interaction. What particularly impressed the judges was the ambition behind the format and the way that vision has been translated into a cohesive experience. Every element has a clear purpose, from the layout and service proposition to the way customers are encouraged to explore, discover and engage with their own wellbeing. The Cardiff store demonstrates how an established high street brand can evolve its physical presence while retaining a strong sense of identity and commercial purpose. It looks beyond the transaction, positioning the store as a place for discovery, expertise, community and experience. It was this combination of ambition, innovation and considered execution that made the project stand out to the judging panel and led them to believe it deserved recognition beyond the established award categories.

HOLLAND & BARRETT EXPERIENCE STORE CARDIFF

The Design Agency of the Year Award recognises an agency that demonstrates exceptional creativity, consistency and capability, alongside a clear understanding of how brands connect with customers through physical retail and experience. For 2026, that agency is B_RD. What stood out in B_RD’s submission was the strength of its integrated approach. Bringing strategy, design, production, logistics and installation together in-house allows the agency to maintain creative continuity from the earliest idea through to final delivery, while responding effectively to the individual demands of each brief. Its portfolio demonstrated considerable versatility across windows, in-store activations, popups, experiential campaigns and events. Rather than applying a recognisable house style, the work responds to each brand, location and audience, combining strong creative thinking with detailed production and technical execution. The judges also recognised the thinking behind how B_RD works. Its approach brings together creativity, production and data-led effectiveness, supported by close collaboration with clients throughout the process. Responsible working practices are also evident within the submission, with sustainability considerations incorporated into projects and examples of repurposed materials being used as part of finished installations. Importantly, these elements do not sit separately from the creative work. They form part of an approach centred on finding the right solution for the brand while balancing visual impact, practical delivery and responsible decision-making. It is this combination of creativity, technical capability, collaboration and considered working practices that made B_RD stand out. For its ability to transform ideas into distinctive, thoughtfully executed brand experiences, B_RD is the 2026 Creative Retail Awards Design Agency of the Year.

Etch is Highly Commended in the 2026 Design Agency of the Year category for the strength and consistency of its work across retail design, windows, activations and visual merchandising.

B_RD

The Trailblazer of the Year Award recognises a retailer whose work, influence and approach to physical retail has made an exceptional impression on the Creative Retail Awards. This is not a predetermined award, nor is there a set shortlist. It exists to recognise a business that demonstrates the ambition, imagination and continual evolution that defines truly progressive retail. For 2026, that retailer is Fortnum & Mason. With a history stretching back more than three centuries, Fortnum & Mason could easily rely on heritage alone. Instead, it continues to show how an established and instantly recognisable retailer can evolve, experiment and remain creatively relevant without losing the identity that makes it distinctive. Its famous Piccadilly windows remain an important part of London’s visual retail landscape, combining storytelling, craftsmanship and theatrical visual merchandising to create moments that extend far beyond traditional product display. Inside the store, the same thinking continues through carefully considered interiors, hospitality, experiential concepts and spaces designed to encourage discovery, interaction and dwell time. Beyond Piccadilly, the business has also continued to expand its physical presence, taking its distinctive identity into new formats and locations while retaining the character of the brand. What makes Fortnum & Mason particularly notable is the consistency running through everything it does. Windows, interiors, hospitality, product and customer experience are not treated as separate disciplines, but as part of one recognisable retail world. That approach has been reflected across this year’s Creative Retail Awards, where Fortnum & Mason has walked away with recognition across the awards. But Trailblazer of the Year looks beyond any single project or category. It recognises a retailer that continues to raise expectations of what physical retail can be: a destination, an experience and a platform for exceptional creativity. For its continued investment in physical retail, commitment to craft and creativity, and ability to continually evolve one of Britain’s most recognisable retail brands, Fortnum & Mason is the 2026 Creative Retail Awards Trailblazer of the Year.
