Did you know?
Father’s Day was declared a national holiday only a year prior to the cell phone’s invention? Today’s wireless technology looks much different than it did in 1973, and so does fatherhood. Dads have embraced caretaking roles more than ever before, giving rise to new traditions around the globe. As Father’s Day sees some of the highest call volumes of the year, Ultra Mobile is committed to connecting families to their fathers around the world.

In Germany, Vatertag is a dad’s day off. The May 18th tradition of the nationwide Männertag (men’s day) outing has grown more inclusive, yet retains the essentials of shared meals and outdoor activities among family and friends. This four-day weekend of fraternal bonding culminates on Sunday, observing the centuries-old Christian Feast of the Ascension.
Costa Ricans celebrate El Día Del Padre on the third Sunday of June, just as Americans do. Alongside honoring the fathers on this holiday, Costa Ricans recognize the single mothers who fill both roles of the household. Some years, El Día Del Padre falls on the World Cup soccer tournament, so many families spend the holiday cheering on their national team.
Observed on December 5th, Thailand’s Wan Por celebrates all fathers, especially the King – as it’s his birthday! The nation’s longest-serving monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej is seen by many as the symbolic father of Thailand. Families honor their own fathers by gifting the canna flower and continue to honor their King by wearing yellow on this special day.
Called by different names, Father’s Day is an invitation to connect deeper with the most important men in our lives. It begins with picking up the phone and saying hello.
