How to Find New Customers on Facebook Groups If you’ve been keeping up with our Social Media 101 series, you’re a social media pro by now. This month we’re focusing on one of the best features available on Facebook, Facebook Groups. Here are 3 benefits of getting involved in a group on Facebook as a business:

Provide a Customer support community When a Customer is looking for support, you can address the problem and provide helpful info to members in the group, showing your expertise. Other members/Customers may also help, creating a positive experience that’s associated with your business.

Crowdsource information from trusted sources People who join your group are likely to be your biggest supporters, and a helpful resource for gaining real insights from the people who know your business best.

Increase your organic reach Facebook’s algorithm prioritizes content from Facebook groups with high engagement. The more you and your Customers post in your group, the more people your business group will reach on Facebook’s newsfeed.

The 3 Types of Facebook Groups

Private and Hidden

To get started, we recommend you join a few public groups that are popular in your area to attract potential local Customers. Public groups are a great way to get involved with your community and find new Customers.

Here are a few tips on how to find some groups:

Private and hidden groups (also known as secret groups) don’t show up in searches and members have to be invited to join. Kind of like finding a hidden entrance to a party and needing a secret password to enter.

Public - Recommended!

Downside: It can take longer to build and grow a list of members and be hard for new potential members to find and join.

Anyone can join and see what members post or share. Kind of like a house party with a front door that’s unlocked.

Upside: All group members can join without any barrier, and you don’t have to spend time screening new members.

Downside: Because anyone can join, and post, content can be hard to control. You’ll want to keep an eye on what content is posted since your business will be affiliated with what group members post and share.

Upside: Great for a very exclusive experience.

Getting Started: How to identify the right Facebook Groups to join.

Identify the Group section in Facebook’s sidebar and select Groups

When you get the hang of interacting in public groups, you can start your own group.

If you do, we recommend starting a Private and Visible group.

Private and Visible Private groups show up in searches, but potential members must be accepted by the administrator. Kind of like a party where the member has to knock at the front door to be let in.

Then select Discover

Upside: Only current members can see who belongs to the group, and what is being posted and shared. This can feel exclusive but still accessible, like getting tipped about a deal or insider knowledge.

Downside: The administrator (you) will need to manually accept members and essentially be the person to answer the door.

After selecting Discover, you’ll be able to view groups that fall under the following categories:

Facebook will then populate Groups that are associated with that location.

• Groups your friends are in • Popular groups near you • Suggested groups for you • Facebook’s suggested groups • Categories We recommend that you browse through “Popular groups near you.” Here, you may find communities that are interested in your business’ services and members that are near you.

Another way to identify relevant groups is by searching for groups that are specific to your city because these members are more likely to be familiar with your location.

You can search your city and state with Facebook’s Search Bar under the Groups section.

First, check out the groups to see if they are a good fit for your business. If they are, join them.

Social Media

Before sharing any posts about yourself or your business, we recommend that you engage with the new incoming posts for about a week. Engage by leaving a comment and liking the posts. The point of joining these groups is to become familiar with the community so that they are just as supportive of you when you share details about your business. Once you’ve achieved a sense of familiarity with the group, we recommend that you introduce yourself to the group by letting them know the following:

• A little bit about yourself • Short background about your business •T hat they are welcome to stop by your store.

•T hat you appreciate being accepted in the group and are happy to answer any questions.

An example of the type of post that you can share: “Hey everyone, my name is (insert your Name) and I am the owner / employee at (insert Store Name) store. Our business has been serving the residents of (insert City Name) for the last (Insert number of years open) years. We’re thankful for the amount of support that we’ve received from this community and wanted to stop by this group to introduce ourselves and let you know that our doors are open. We offer wireless services, devices, etc. If you’re looking for any of these products or services, feel free to stop by at (insert Store Address) from (insert store hours). If you have any questions, let me know in the comments!

After sharing this post, we encourage you to remain active with the group by continuing to engage and make connections. If you have any updates on special offers, feel free to share with the community!

Remember, the purpose of these Facebook Groups is to connect with your community and customers.
