Sunday, May 14th is an Ultra-special day for our network. 122 million phones are expected to ring across the country! Unsurprisingly, Mother’s Day is the most popular calling day worldwide, surpassing other high-volume holidays like Valentine’s Day and New Year’s.
Let’s take a look at how moms are celebrated around the globe:
If you’re in Mexico, make sure you book dinner in advance! El Día De Las Madres is the busiest day of the year for restaurants. Walking the cobblestone streets, you’ll hear mariachis serenading mothers with the joyful song “Las Mañanitas” on the morning of May 10.
When you’re in Japan, you’ll smell red and white carnations, symbols of sweetness and endurance, on 母の日 (haha no hi). Alongside these flowers, you’re likely to see Japanese children gifting their mothers the hand-drawn portraits they made in school that week.
In Haiti, you’ll find a colorful celebration of mothers past and present. When celebrating Fèt Manman on May 28th, those wearing red flowers are honoring their mother who is alive, white represents a recent loss and lavender is the symbol of a loss that occurred many years ago.
Called by different names, Mother’s Day is an invitation to connect deeper with the most important women in our lives while the seasons bloom. It begins with picking up the phone.
