I am pleased to advise that on-site practical assessments have been resumed, allowing those candidates who hold a Provisional Certificate, issued under the Covid 19 - Special Measures, to convert their Provisional Certificate to a full certificate on successful completion of their on-site assessment.

Please note that candidates and assessors, plus anyone within current social distancing measures, will be required to wear face coverings during the assessment to meet the requirements of The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Wearing of Face Coverings in a Relevant Place) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2020. Managers should ensure that handwashing facilities with soap and water or hand sanitiser are available and offered to the assessor.

The manager of candidates holding a Provisional Certificate are currently being contacted, in the order the certificates were issued, to offer them the option for their candidate to proceed with their on site assessment immediately or to defer for one month, subject to this being within the six months of the on site assessments resuming.

Candidates who fail their on-site practical assessment will have six months to re-sit their practical assessment, however managers should note that the candidate’s Provisional Certificate validity will not be extended beyond six months from the date of issue. Re-sit fees of £350 per assessment will apply.

Due to the availability of the assessors there will be some regional variation in the provision of assessments and, where there is availability, some new candidates will be given a date for their on-site practical assessment once they have successfully passed their theory assessment, to avoid increasing the backlog of practical assessments.

If you have yet to hear from me to progress your candidate’s assessment please bear with me, we have the equivalent of a year’s practical assessments to catch up on, with more than 100 Provisional Certificates issued in just four months.

For candidates in Scotland there will be a longer wait as it is not yet possible top resume the Baby and Infant Training Module at present, however the Executive Committee are reviewing alternative options to progress this essential training for Scottish operatives.

As always, if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me by email training@fbca.org.uk or by telephone 01733 229646 / 07787 123331.
