ay marks the unofficial beginning of summer which kicks off over Memorial Day. And last month the city came alive with a whirlwind of celeb studded galas around the city including the glittering Tribeca Film Festival and Time 100 gala which we have featured this month.

Speaking of celebrities, we featured the beautiful rising star Stephanie Corneliussen. This Danish beauty has most recently starred in Mr. Robot and here she dishes on her favorite West Hollywood spots as well as all of her new projects.

THE VOLVO OCEAN RACE The Race of a Lifetime

I

t is the highly anticipated event of the year, where teams are put to the ultimate test as they battle Mother Nature in a race against time.

Since 1973, the Volvo Ocean Race has pushed even the great sailors to their limits and the 20172018 edition is no different. Teams will endure a harrowing 45,000 nautical miles around the world, crossing four oceans, touching six continents and twelve landmark host cities.

Every day, for 24 hours a day, teams work immensely hard to pursue even the smallest advantages to make a difference and get ahead of all the other teams.

Often hailed as the longest and toughest professional sporting event in the world, the race sets sail on 22 October 2017 in Alicante, Spain and halts at The Hague in Netherlands eight months later.

The other cities that will be hosting the teams on their journey include Lisbon, Cape Town, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Auckland, Newport RI, Cardiff and Gothenburg.

Each team is a collection of men and women from all over the world who possess the strength and passion to endure such a marathon as this. Team AzkoNobel were the first to enter the 2017-2018 edition, keeping alive the Dutch tradition in this race. The Dongfeng race team returns for a consecutive year after claiming a podium finish and winning a historic homecoming leg into Sanya in the 2014-2015 edition. The Spanish team MAPFRE also returns for a second consecutive edition following a successful debut in 2014-15, in which they claimed podium finishes four times. American duo Charlie Enright and Mark Towill lead the Vestas 11th Hour racing team with a passionate sustainability message to make an impact on and off the water. Representing Hong Kong is the Sun Hung Kai/Scalliwag team skippered by experienced Aus-

Every team is equipped with onboard reporters who provide the fans back home with a unique insight into the relentless individuals who have spent their life, training and preparing for this vigorous race that takes place every 3 years. Spectators will see what it takes to win a race of this magnitude.

The competition is fierce and with the current era of One Design racing, the only way to win is to sail harder and smarter than competitors, the race is won out on the water as opposed to by design.

Even though there is no prize money for the winners, the satisfaction of seeing your name etched into one of the silver rings of the Volvo Ocean Race trophy is a prize beyond compare for sailors who dreamt of this exact moment. The winners will join legends and heroic figures such as Éric Tabarly, Conny Van Rietschoten, Grant Dalton and Ian Walker.

In the last edition, a total of 2.4 million people visited the race villages to get a glimpse of the heroes and experience first-hand the adrenaline of the race. Millions more followed the race on digital platforms and this edition brings new technologies so fans can be closer to the action with more live updates from the boats as they race for a chance to be revered as legends.

I don’t like pain, exactly, but as a ballerina, I lived in constant pain. At ballet school if someone had painkillers, we divided them among us. We were all addicted.”

New York City International Film Festival

The Girl Who Invented Kissing stars Suki Waterhouse as a quirky addict opposite Dash Mihok of Ray Donovan fame. The film, directed by Tom Sierchio, opened the NYC International Film Festival (NYCIFF). Suki said, “I’m the laziest person. When I’m hanging around my house, I literally look like a tramp. I love being comfortable and having no make-up.” …...Closing the festival was former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan and his wife, director, Keely Shaye Smith who presented their documentary, Poisoning Paradise.

Pierce has said, “I will forever be a Bond. Someone said, more men have walked on the moon than have played James Bond.”

A WITNESS TO HISTORY FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHER DOUG MENUEZ

oug Menuez is the acclaimed photojournalist who-- as with any great witness to history- was in the right place at the right time with the right camera. His career began in 1981 as an intern to the Washington Post.

It was only four years later in 1985 that he found himself in Silicon Valley exploring and struggling alongside the young, still unknown scions of the emerging tech industry.

He befriended the likes of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates etc. while wielding his camera and capturing some of the most profound and earliest images of the men who would become the pioneers and founding fathers of the 20th century tech industry. Many of these images found their way into his highly acclaimed book Fearless Genius: The Digital Revolution 1985-2000 which is regarded as one of the most important visual documents to the early beginnings of the men and few women who, indeed, truly led a revolution.

They have been featured in your best-selling book. Why do you now feel this show will hold any particular resonance?

DOUG MENUEZ - A few weeks ago a young entrepreneur from India posted on Facebook that I saved him from severe depression related to the crash of his startup through the Fearless Genius book. He studied the photos and text and gained a new perspective on failure as he learned how differently failure is viewed in Silicon Valley. He said he used the book as a bible, reading it page by page, gaining inspiration.

He went on to start a new company providing resources for founders of startups, including mental health in addition to funding and other stuff. So yeah images from history matter, not only to gain perspective, inspiration and see new opportunities for the future, but to avoid the mistakes of the past. Young entrepreneurs come to my talks and reach out to me all the time to tell me the book of photographs is helpful. Often they are very emotional as they are connecting with stories of sacrifice and creativity that led to change innovation they were not aware of - it was freaking hard what they accomplished back then.

And that history is not taught much at all today.

So I know this work resonates with audiences of all kinds as over 100 million people have now been exposed to it worldwide. This work has been touring continuously since the 2012 Moscow Photobiennale and keeps getting requested. But I think these images speak to people across a wide spectrum outside of tech.

We are at a new inflection point in human history and technology development. You can see this with all the other nascent technology about to start scaling. It’s really important to pay attention to how technology is shaping our lives, will shape our lives in the near future, and where it all came from. My work asks who were the people who built our world and what were their motivations then? What motivates them today? That’s why we wanted to do this show now. Technology runs every aspect of our lives now. We can be sheep to slaughter or wake up and have a voice.

Technologies are just tools for good. No, we didn’t get a vote on that atom bomb. We won’t be asked if we want to upload our brains into a hive mind and live forever in the coming singularity either.

And Philippe and HG Contemporary have taken the work and put it in a new context as fine art.

Which is how I saw it- a subjective interpretation of a hidden tribe that possessed immense power to change all our lives. In my work I’ve always been interested in the core human condition and culture of a people. I don’t care if I’m shooting AIDS orphans in Africa or tech geniuses in Palo Alto, all humans have universal truths, connections we all share, and finding those

connections visually is exciting to me.

So this show is a new step for me that brought the project full circle from art school through my] career and back to art, for which I’m extremely grateful.

GW – How did you start in those early days where you were part of the incubation and birth of Silicon Valley?

DM- I returned from covering the famine and conflict in Ethiopia and Eritrea for Newsweek overwhelmed by the immense scale of human suffering I witnessed. I decided I needed to find a positive story about tangible change for the better, for the human race and for my own life. That’s when Steve Jobs was forced out at Apple and announced he was building a super computer for education. I knew that was the root solution to most social issues. Through friends I reached out and asked him for complete access to document the creation of this computer from beginning to shipping, to capture his process of innovation for LIFE magazine. Shockingly he agreed! And he gave me total access 24/7.

GW- You, and for that matter, neither anyone else not even Steve Jobs and Bill Gates could ever have managed the revolution they were creating! Do you ever stop to think back and look back and say to yourself -- ‘Wow! I was in the right place and the right moment at the right time. And I documented it all for posterity’!

DM- Ha! Well, not really but when you put it like that, it feels like I got very lucky. I will say my colleagues thought I was nuts shooting in Silicon Valley with nerds and bad flourescent light.

Most of the action was unphotographable. But actually we kind of did know something special

was happening- at least they did. But they could see what could happen if they succeeded and would tell me how they saw the future. They were talking about cell phones and basically everything we have now way back then. And I started to believe them once I got inside the PR bubble and learned what was really going on. But no, it was not top of mind. I just got deeper and deeper into it and became obsessed with these people and their creative power. I also had not changed the world yet with my photographs but there, right in front of me were the people who actually were changing the world. All I had to do was make a record of that and that became my purpose.

And the last thing Steve said to me when I stopped documenting him was “Don’t worry Doug, you’ll have fun with these photographs someday, they’re amazing!” He definitely had a vision of the future and believed his work would have a huge impact.

After all, he’d changed the world twice by 1985 so I had to give him the benefit of the doubt.

GW- What was Steve Jobs like? You knew the real Steve Jobs.

DM- Ahhhh, well, how much time do you have?

It feels like we put now have this mythology about Steve, that he was either a genius or a jerk.

But he was human, like all of us, with layers of complexity. Yes he could rude or even brutal, and we all have our scars, but he could also be an amazing teacher. He was also very sweet and kind. He would come bounding up the stairs into work every day on fire with energy and enthusiasm, just incredibly driven and...

When Eric Clapton creates his personal art gallery, the artist Tom Lieber will command major presence. After all, after knowing what I know, we can

all now surmise that Tom Lieber is Eric Clapton’s favorite artist.

“Eric once told me that my paintings inspire his playing,’’ the artist has said. Not that he is one to brag and boast and hoist his own petard. But then again, Tom Lieber was born in 1949.

This abstract art painter has never been on relevant and buzzed about.

investment. It sank in 30 years ago and continues to this day. My friendship and discussions with Diane Waldman, curator at the Guggenheim at the time, were of equal importance. Diane studied and knew Rothko, Joesph Cornell, de Kooning, Phillip Guston and Roy Lichtenstein, among others.

Her stories and insights were inspiring. And when William Lieberman (no relation) purchased a Lieber for the Met, it was an honor and very exciting.

John Berggruen even took me for lunch to tell me the news. I was young (34), it was a big deal to me and a statement of support and confidence for the work.

What is a typical working day like in the life of Tom Lieber. Run your daily work ethic by GW. Is it first rolling some fine Hawaiian cannabis sativa after your lunch of quinoa and painting away by the surf and sand in Hawaii where you live? I usually wake up around 3am to paint after I throw all the bikini clad women out of the house. Then I make coffee, turn all the lights on to let the Hawaiian spirits know I’m up, and walk 15 feet to my studio and work until 8am. The most precise and focused painting events happen in that time. And then I do my Astanga Yoga at 8:30 and then work in my garden, on my house/studio and do art maintenance stuff..... supplies, phone calls, etc.....

I love Hawaii and feel grateful to be able to work and live here. It’s endlessly beautiful here.

marriages, kids, death, divorce, through the ‘death of painting’, ‘bad painting’, isms of all sorts.

I asked Phillip Guston in 1980, just before his death, “What do you think of the art world these days”? (kind of a dumb question) He answered, after a pregnant pause, “ I am the art world”......Don’t you love that! It was an awesome answer. My mentor and painter, Peter Bodnar, told me once, “Just keep painting; paint and you’ll win by default as the others die off”. He’s 89 and still working.

Look him up, he is a master. And also, to keep me going, once drunk on red wine with the great painter John Walker....Blue lipped drunk, John grabs my hands and starts massaging them and says over and over again, “paint your fucking heart out, paint your ass off”......That kind of transmission doesn’t happen everyday. I am honored and blessed to have great mentors. And I listened to them.

So, yeah, I paint everyday.

Where were you born? What were you like on the edge of being seventeen years old?

I was born in St. Louis, Missouri. At seventeen I was starting Jr College in Ferguson, Missouri, majoring naively in fine arts. And becoming a long haired hippie after flirting with being a frat man.

It turned out to be the best choice.

Where in Hawaii do you live? And why there? I’ve visited Kauai every year since 1976. I live in an organic farming area called Moloaa on the north-side.. And moved here in 2000 to support my wife’s cancer situation. She lived here happily for 10 years doing alternative methods.....The best western medical doctors gave her three years to live. After her death, my son and I moved part time to Los Angeles. Love Los Angeles.

Now my son, Leaf, is at NYU in film, and I decided to immerse myself back full time on Kauai.

The land, the wind, the trees, the warm blue ocean all of it is hard to emulate anywhere else. I’m inspired here and see my paintings in the trees and vines. I love the Hawaiian people I know. It’s deep here.

GW - What do you consider that first seminal, most opportune and important moment of your early career? Having Diane Waldman find me and my work in 1982 while visiting in San Francisco. She was putting together the ‘Emerging American Artists’ bi-annual for the Guggenheim.

And that same year, John Berggruen invited me into his prestigious gallery. At the time that was truly valid and solid support from two major people from the art world upper echelons.

Do you roll your eyes when folk dismiss your work as frenetic Abstract Expressionism?

- Or do you just say.. ‘just write me a check and I will concur with anything you say’. TL - The Abstract Expressionists didn’t even like that term. Do Jackson Pollack and deKooning really share a vision? I don’t think so. Painting is painting. It’s classic, like jazz. It’s my job and devotion to continue developing the tradition. Painting keeps going, like jazz didn’t stop..... Its all evolving.

You have claimed in the past, and I quote...’’I paint every day since 1974...’’ Is that fact? Yes. I’ve painted everyday, poor or not, through three

Nothing GW appreciates more than a brilliant badinage with some very warm and

nonchalant with their intellectual heft. I am loving this conversation. So, anyway -- your latest work , your new one man New York City solo show at the buzzy Georges Berges Gallery is best defined as what? The paintings have evolved for forty years based on the human body, energy, environment along with awareness of what’s been done before. The new work has focused in on a V shape that has been occurring the whole time I’ve been painting. Getting more and more focused and ending up here with that.

Every artist has to always relish growth and taking risks and stepping out of their comfort zone to truly evolve. How do you plan to do that circa 2020? I’ll follow the work. It always guides me. Trust.

GW also read that you have oft been inspired by the work of that ancient master Giacometti If so - why? I’m engaged by artists like Giacometti, Morandi, Guston, that have reveal a unique mark or way , their way of making art.

What’s this Reichian Therapy hocus pocus you also love to wax on about? Sounds like some new Scientology. What is Reichian Therapy? And why do you rave about it so much? Wilhelm Reich was one of Sigman Freud’s students and developed body centered therapy.

He’s possibly the first body therapist in the Western world. He saw that people could spend years in talk therapy. He worked with the breath and facilitated releasing blocks in the energetic body.

Look him up..... It’s a long story.But it has nothing to do with Scientology.

What started you in the skincare world? ’ve always had an interest in the skincare and beauty industry. I actually owned a spa in Poland before moving to the states. I’ve worked in the best spa’s in New York to garner my craft and have never stopped expanding my knowledge with continuing education. My dream to open my own spa in New York was my constant driving force. And today I am living proof that dreams, mixed with hard work, determination and raccoon eyes from lack of sleep, really do come true.

I

You are extremely passionate about the skin. Is this what sets you apart from others?

Of course my passion for skincare is at the forefront of what sets me apart from others but the bond I create with my clients is what keeps them coming back. I love my clients and my goal is always to create a sense of safety in the treatment room that allows them to open up. I am not only their skin expert, but their confidant.

They get to unload their day to day trials and tribulations and leave with fabulous looking skin.

Who doesn’t want that?

I try to create the perfect scenario, so that means reading the client. I provide a shoulder when they need one or a place of tranquility when they just want peace and quiet. Either way, their skin always look great.

What can your clients expect when visiting your spa?

Nothing but the absolute best. From a welcoming glass of champagne to 5 star customer service,

I give my clients the experience that I would expect when visiting a high-end spa. Once the champagne has played its part in helping melt away some of that NYC stress, they get to luxuriate in completely customized treatments.

When the pampering is over, they float home with samples, recommendations, regimens and, most importantly, fabulous skin.

What are some of the new technologies that you are excited about?

There are several that are at the top of my list but I am currently obsessed with the Fibroblast treatment and it’s really growing in demand. It is a revolutionary and remarkable technique that gives you surgical results without having to go under the knife. You can actually immediately see the shrinking of sagging skin. I mean I don’t think you could ask for more.

You have lots of equipment in your facial room, are you finding it a must to keep up with the latest technology?

Yes! Because of my obsession and passion for skincare, I am constantly on top of the newest trends and transformations in the industry. I attend shows and conventions and am happily a guinea pig to ensure these innovations actually work. It’s hard work, but somebody has to do it.

And if I see something works and I stand behind it 100%, then I will add it to my menu of services so my clients always have access to the best of the best.

How do you think the industry changed throughout the years since you started?

As an esthetician, there is nothing more exciting than seeing the revolutionary and innovative treatments that are being introduced to the market.

Whether its new equipment or new ingredients, I cannot begin to tell you how thrilling it is to see the changes going on in the industry. Things that weren’t possible 15 years ago are a standard today. I cannot wait to see what we will have access to in the next 15 years. Maybe a magic wand, youth elixir?

But, I must say that nothing can replace the human relationship. And so, I hope that in the future the industry continues to cater to a one on one connection that just cannot be substituted by a chamber or another kind of technology that would eliminate the attention and expertise one would receive from a skincare professional.

What is your go to recommendation for first time clients?

My initial interaction with a client will always be a consultation. I get to know them and understand what it is that they are seeking from their experience. All of my treatments are customized so each client receives a very individualized service. Although my recommendations will always be different, my goal will never change – having my clients float out of the treatment room with their glowing, gorgeous skin.

What is your favorite skincare brand?

Being in the industry for over 15 years, I’ve literally tried countless product lines. I found the most effective line on the market to be Skinceuticals, who I ultimately partnered with. They are a results driven skincare brand that do continuous

research and testing for safety and efficacy to ensure they are able to provide advanced skincare that is backed by science. Because of this, I feel incredibly confident recommending the products and using them in my treatments. And of course, I use them myself.

What is your most popular treatment that you would say is a must have?

Facials are the most booked treatments and are the most well known in the skincare industry. I highly recommend everyone incorporate facials into their skincare regimens.

Lash lifts are becoming more and more popular and are a very close second. My clients love having their lashes look amazing as soon as they wake up. Even after a long night they get to wake up looking bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Is it really possible to be proactive in preventing or slowing down the aging of skin?

Absolutely. Having an anti-aging mindset sometimes has a negative connotation to it and is perceived as being vain. But it’s clearly in demand because of all the anti-aging products that are out there today. Some work and some don’t. Believe me, I’ve tried them all...

When clients see me for a consultation, I help them decide what they can incorporate into their lives so they can be proactive or even erase some of those pesky signs of aging.

tephanie Corneliussen is conspicuous in any crowd.

Standing six feet tall with dark hair and ice-blue eyes, she so thoroughly embodies the stunningly fearless Joanna Wellick from USA’s hit series Mr. Robot that it’s almost difficult to discern one from the other. Yet they are nothing alike—except, maybe, for the fearlessness.

Intense, engaging, and a touch irreverent, Corneliussen is as comfortable talking about animal rights as she is about Sega Genesis. She takes herself lightly, but her work seriously—a balance she attributes to her Danish upbringing. With Mr. Robot behind her, the actress is embarking on a slew of new projects (still under wraps, though not for long), and we anticipate that in the coming year, she’ll become impossible to ignore. We met up

with Corneliussen as she was celebrating her 31st birthday to talk about what it feels like to be a rising star, how she stays grounded in Hollywood, and what we can expect from her in the years ahead.

What was it like moving from Copenhagen to Hollywood?

I was modeling before I started acting so I had lived, traveled, and worked pretty much all over Europe. But when I came here, I came with nothing and knew no one. It was a bit overwhelming and a bit of a culture shock as well. I come from a very proactive, socialist country. There are many things I hadn’t experienced growing up in Europe that I all of a sudden have to have an opinion about here. Gender roles are very different, homophobia, racism—things that I never dealt with as a Dane.

Has L.A. rubbed off on you?

I never did yoga until I moved here— so that’s something. I’ve been vegan

for a couple of years now, and I feel great. But otherwise I don’t think so. I hear a lot that there’s a certain superficial attitude about L.A., but I feel like it’s blown out of proportion. I was lucky to find a really good group of friends here right off the bat who were super grounded. Most Angelinos I meet are chill. I mean weed is legal here—how aggressive can they be? It’s also nice that they’re surrounded by famous people all the time, so they don’t care much about who you are.

Where do you usually hang out?

I’m pretty much always in West Hollywood. There are fantastic restaurants here; though L.A. isn’t known for it, it’s really a culinary city. I love Crossroads, which is a vegan fine dining restaurant. Their “oysters” made with artichoke and their “meatball” pizza are amazing.

I just tried a new Peruvian place, Rosaline—they have this outstanding vegetarian paella (they can make it vegan); I’ve never had rice like that in my life. I’m actually going back tonight. I really like Alfred’s on Melrose for coffee.

I don’t really go out to bars.

My cousin told me that I’m the most anti-social social person that she’s ever met, [laughs] it’s true. I like engaging with people but at the same time I like

spending time with myself. I feel most comfortable when I’m being creative—whether it is drawing, painting, acting, writing music—I try to do as much of it as I possibly can. That or play PlayStation—I love Assassin’s Creed. Video games are a great way to interact with yourself.

What do you like to paint?

I do a shit-ton of portraits—self-

portraits and other people’s portraits. There are a lot of weird abstract paintings of my face in my apartment right now… [laughs] that sounds so egotistical. I think mostly I’m trying to capture myself in my mental state.

Do you feel it helps you with acting?

Absolutely. You are in a relationship with the characters you play, and—like any relationship with another person—

it helps to shake out the emotions artistically. I had such a creative block after Joanna. My dad paints as well, so when I went back to Copenhagen after she was killed off he was like—we are going to go get some canvases and work through this. We basically drank a bunch of wine and painted together.

I love doing that.

What was the first moment you thought: I’ve made it?

See I wouldn’t even say that I’ve made it yet. I’ve got my foot in the door… but maybe that’s just me playing it down. I don’t think I can see it because I’m in it. I still wake up in the morning and make my coffee and change my cats’ litterbox. I still live in the same apartment. I recognize that some things are changing—people do stop me on the street, and all of a sudden people have an opinion about me.

But I’m still just… me.

I think it’s good to aim high and dream big but to keep your expectations low. The first time I ever booked an acting gig—I think it was Royal Pains—I was ecstatic. Just the fact that I had a small recurring guest role felt like a big win. Obviously, Mr. Robot was the big break. I loved the show from the second I read it and I loved the character [Joanna]. It was a privilege that I got the opportunity so early in my career to demonstrate that I am a good actor, not just a model who wanted to transition to acting.

I tried with teeth and claws to not fall into that category. I wanted to prove myself.

What has surprised you most about acting?

There’s so much more to having an acting career than acting. There are so many people involved in making a single decision. You have a manager and an agent and another agent and a publicist— there’s a whole machine behind it that I guess I wasn’t aware of. And I like to stay very involved when it comes to the choices of my career. I was 22 years old when I got here—not a dime in my

pocket and banking it all on hope. It was a big risk and it was a big move. I don’t want it to be for naught.

What did you bring to the role of Joanna in Mr. Robot that no one else could have?

We have this thing in Denmark called the Law of Jante. It’s a sort of social contract you’re brought up with that says you are not to think that you are special, or that you are better or smarter than anyone else—basically don’t be a cocky smartass.

I think that is rooted so deep within me, so when I’m in a position where I have to compliment myself or say something I exceled at—especially based on someone else’s creation—it’s very hard. I don’t want to take more credit than the credit that applies to me if that makes sense. I think that the Law of Jante would be FABULOUS for a good portion of the American white male population.

I do think that I brought something to Joanna that I don’t think anyone else could have. I feel I embodied her and made her a real person. She’s become almost a cult figure. People are obsessed with her, and so was I. But it’s hard for me to compliment myself in that way without feeling that I’m arrogant.

I just want to show up and do a good job.

Joanna is a bit crazy though. That must have been difficult.

She’s a full-blown sociopath! And I’d like to say that I am not. It was fascinating to get into that mentality. It took a lot of research. Method acting relies on finding some deeper, inner consciousness that you can play on—we all have an inner life and an external life, thoughts and dreams. When you have nothing in common with a character, you have to create all of that. It was a whole journey into a new person who was friggin’ nuts—it was fun.

How did it feel to part with that role?

I miss her so much. I’ve been respectful and accepting

of the choice that they made to discontinue her story. But honestly… I didn’t feel like her time was up. I’m going to quote all the Twitter fans when I say this, but I feel like she deserved better. But at the same time I have the utmost respect for Sam Esmail. I think what he created was brilliant, really.

There’s no resentment, no hard feelings. But I was sad it had to end. I was worried that the fans would think that I wanted to leave the show, so I want to make it clear that I really wanted to stay. I loved being on the show, and I’d love to find a role like that again.

Do you see yourself ever creating your own roles—maybe writing or directing?

Yes—but I’m not sure that I can contractually talk about that yet. There is something in the works that I’m heavily involved with on my own accord.

You will know about it very soon.

If you could go back to any one place you lived while modeling which would it be, and what would you do there?

Barcelona. I will 100 percent move back to Barcelona one day and die there. I was 16 years old when I got there, and at first I hated it— looking back, I have no idea why. But then I befriended this really sweet Swedish model, and she was like you’re crazy; you’re going to love it here. She called the agency and told them we were taking the day off, and she showed me around. I think it was the green line—I don’t know if it still is—we took to La Rambla, and as soon as we got out it felt like home. I’d never seen anything like it. If I could go back, [I’d go there], and then make my way through the big La Boqueria market to this amazing little gem of a restaurant called Ra. Then I’d walk all the way to La Barceloneta, have a drink at one of the beach-front lounges, and walk back through the Latin Quarter, ending in Plaça de Catalunya, where I’d challenge one of the locals to a game of backgammon… and probably loose.

The already hot NoMad neighborhood just became hotter with LDV’s flagship concept restaurant Scarpetta, located in the new James Hotel NoMad. Named after the Italian expression, “fare la Scarpetta”, which translates to ‘savor a meal to the very last bite’ is exactly what patrons dining at Scarpetta will do.

This new incarnation of Scarpetta is led by Executive Chef Jorge Espinoza who creates rich and bold flavors by amplifying the essence of seasonal ingredients. All of the signature classics that customers love including the notable Spaghetti Tomato & Basil, Yellowtail Crudo, Creamy Polenta, Short Rib Agnolotti and Roasted Branzino are served to perfection. Additionally, the crudi menu has special items such as Tuna “Susci” and Raw Yellowtail which are complemented by a special Crudo tasting. JAX BBQ

If you are looking for an authentic Southern style wood pit barbecue experience without having to leave Manhattan, dine at JAX BBQ in Hell’s Kitchen. Pitmaster/owner Nick Accardi was known for his acclaimed Italian eatery in the neighborhood, Tavola, but wanted to bring back the flair of Americana to the area. The interior matches the menu with a rockabilly Americana diner theme featuring exposed brick walls, black leather banquettes with red piping, vintage 1930’s bar stools, and antique gas station signs.

Literally taking ‘cues’ from his stint in Vegas under BBQ legend Mike Mills, Accardi applied his technique of “slow and low” smoking and created custom rubs to achieve BBQ perfection. The menu touches has Southern specialties such as alligator fritters, crawfish hush puppies, and a variety of expertly smoked meats. Other specialties of the house include the Memphis style ribs seasoned with an 18 ingredient spice mixture that’s cooked for 8 hours, the 12 hour smoked Carolina pulled pork, or the crispy buttermilk fried chicken that’s juicy on the inside. Other crowd pleasers include a variety of mouthwatering burger creations that are loaded with flavor. Try the Jax Classic Burger, topped a house-infused truffle ketchup and caramelized onion, and the B-B-Q slab bacon burger with hand-cut slab bacon, Vermont cheddar and house bbq sauce. Even vegetarians can partake with the delicious “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Meat” burger made with an Impossible Foods vegetarian patty topped with a savory custom sauce. Save room for a decadent Southern dessert such as a real key lime (made with actual key limes), Mississippi mud, and chocolate pecan pie selection, in addition to banana ‘Nilla pudding.

Taking the vibes of the 70s taco truck theme, Borrachito is a Mexican street food concept by Den Hospitality located in the back of the uber hip East Village lounge, The Garret East. Executive Chef Yuval Ochoa hails from Guadalajara, Mexico where he drew his inspiration from family recipes. The menu is simple with a variety of spicy and savory tacos along with a delicious chicken tortilla soup. The tacos are reasonably priced at $4.25 with handmade corn tortillas are made fresh to order and filled with delicious fillings. Try the signature tacos including PORK BOMB, carnitas, chicharron, and house pico de gallo (the pork is prepared 3 different ways: roasted pork belly, confit pork shoulder and deep fried pork skin); NY STEAK salsa borracha & grilled onions; BAJA FISH, fried seabass, grilled pineapple salsa; and the vegetarian option of BURRATA, tomatillo salsa, fresh corn. The tacos pair perfectly with The Garret’s killer cocktails including a spicy margarita or a mezcal libation.

DENINO’S PIZZERIA & TAVERN GREENWICH VILLAGE

In 1937, Denino’s Tavern was opened in Staten Island by Sicilian immigrants and has remained in the family ever since reaching legendary status. Keeping it in the family, Carlo Denino, introduced pizza to the tavern in 1951 with his crisp thin crust pizza topped with light sauce that came to define the Staten Island style of pizza. It became such a hit, attracting politicians, celebrities, and locals, that officials later named the corner the pizzeria was on- Carlo Denino’s Way. To expand the family’s legacy, Joseph Castellano, a former employee for 27 years at the original location has partnered with Denino’s stepson Michael Burke to open the first Manhattan location in the heart of Greenwich Village.

The signature dishes are of course the pizzas that achieve the perfect balance of a thin crispy crust loaded with flavor that doesn’t sag. The other key is the order of ingredient application: cheese first, followed by toppings, and then sauce last. This unique style ensures that the flavor of the sauce is not lost. Musttry signature pies straight from the original location include the 1951 (tomato sauce, mozzarella), M.O.R (meatball, onions, ricotta), Garbage (sausage, meatball, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions), and Clam (fresh garlic, parsley, olive oil, grated cheese, no sauce), which is purportedly the best in the city. Classic Italian-American dishes are also served such as the meatballs - a secret family recipe with fresh tomato sauce and a dollop of ricotta, and crispy rice balls (crisp outside, gooey inside with rice, grated cheese, ricotta and mozzarella). Other delicious entrees include Chicken Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Shrimp Arrabbiata. Tuesdays are pasta nights with $10 pastas to get your carb craving on. Try the mouthwatering Cacio e Pepe (imported pecorino, butter, cracked pepper) or Farfalle Crema (mushroom, peas, pancetta, light cream). Now you can enjoy some of the best flavors of Staten Island without leaving Manhattan.

rated art within the newly remodeled restaurant. The restaurant’s bright and spacious interior now serves as the perfect backdrop for 11 breathtaking works by acclaimed international artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Sean Scully and

Robert Indiana, as well a striking Fabienne Verdier piece commissioned specifically for the restaurant.

I had the pleasure of dining at the newly renovated Belvedere restaurant at the gorgeous Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. This is where the Hollywood elite come to enjoy this all-day menu of Mediterranean dishes. From the moment, you walk into the restaurant, you are greeted with the warmest of welcomes and beautiful flower dĂŠcor and its true elegance without being stuffy. We were seated at a beautifully decorated round table that had a view looking out to a cozy patio with outdoor seating. The staff was amazingly attentive and especially our server James Hernandez, who made sure we were well taken care of and to ensure the most pleasurable experience possible. If you are not satisfied with something, they make sure to make it right. James was so knowledgeable about the menu and every detail mattered. We were then greeted by the Sous Chef Kelsi Armijo who was excited about the amazing menu that Chef David Codney had created with her and their team.

We started with Sous Chefs Kelsi’s suggestions: Charred Caesar, Spanish Octopus, Grass-fed Lamb-Burger Meatballs and Salmon Flatbread. I ordered the Burrata and Beets, Beef Tartare, Hearth Pita with Hummus and Baba Ganoush. The flavors in the meatballs were aromatic with a hint of sweet from the raisins. The Charred Caesar had wonderful texture and by charring, truly opened up the flavors without being over powered by dressing. The Burrata melted in your mouth and was the highest quality with some citrus and beets which gave it a refreshingly flair. The Hearth Pita is homemade on premises with a hint of sourdough flavor served with the creamiest Hummus and Baba Ganoush which was extremely flavorful with the freshest herbs yet not overly seasoned. By the time dinner was served we could barely take another bite since we were surrounded by amazing appetizers. Sous Chef Kelsi recommended the Duck Confit Orecchiette which had tender pieces of duck with hints of escarole and sundried to-

mato. This was seasoned perfectly and the sundried tomato popped with flavor yet was not overpowering. The Seared Scallops dish was a table favorite! They melted in your mouth and a must try on the menu. The next dish was a winner and reminded me of a seafood paella- the Lobster Bouillabaisse served with ciabatta, Rouille, clams, mussels and shrimp.

The flavors were in perfect harmony of each other. A hearty dish you cannot miss! I would have never guessed Ciabatta, but it worked. If you can leave room for dessert, and I suggest you do, a must have Sous Chef choice, the Faberge Egg. It is a must have just on presentation alone. It was so gorgeous we felt guilty cracking it open to taste. Once we did, it was a white and milk chocolate heaven. The next dessert was the Apple Strudel which looked

nothing like apple strudel. It was also a work of art and flavorful with a smooth textured of apple filling that looked like it was inside an eggroll shell. Flavors were subtle, yet the apple flavor stood out and the sour cream was a nice addition to the sweet. I have to say I have had the privilege of dining at many 5 star restaurants yet The Belvedere, by far, stands out. From the comfortable yet elegant dining area, to the top-notch team who made us feel as if we were royals, to the exceptional creativity and quality of the menu choices, it was an amazing dining experience. A MUST visit in Beverly Hills.

Signature menu items include Las Tablas, which allow patrons to choose from a variety of grilled proteins such as their famous Pulpo (grilled octopus), and are accompanied by five seasonal “cazuelitas”, a tasting of traditional side dishes such as Eggplant Chambota, Russian Potato Salad and Celery Root Gratin; Pacu Fish Ribs, a rarity in New York, are made with a grilled Brazilian Pacu – a wild and sustainable fresh water fish - and served with an orange chipotle BBQ sauce and coconut rice; and Moqueca Mixta which includes a mix of fresh squid, shrimp, mussels, white fish, scallops, soy beans, Spanish chorizo, bacalao and green coconut rice in dende oil. s the Empire State is to New York, the Blue Lagoon has become Iceland’s must visit attraction. Surrounded by a panoramic view of lava fields, the man-made lagoon’s water is fed from the Svartsengi geothermal plant. While the water is actually milky white, the blue comes from the silica and the way it reflects sunlight. During warmer days, algae starts to grow, providing the wa-ter with a hint of green. While an otherworldly view sufficient in attracting millions of visitors from across the world, the Blue Lagoon has a bonus factor.

Water from the lagoon has long been known to have the ability to cure skin diseases and to condition and exfoliate the skin.

After taking a dip in the warm waters, guests can check out the spa amenities. If it has been a lifelong dream of yours to try out a silica mud mask, the silica bar is the place for you. Leave the mask on for at least five minutes, and you’re guaranteed to leave the spa with skin as soft as a baby. Carved into the lava rock, guests can let off some steam in the sauna rooms while reflecting on the one of a kind landscape around the lagoon.

The man-made waterfall can soothe sore shoulders and stiff muscles but guests are warned of the waiting times on busier days. But if you’re looking for a softer touch, guests can try out the in-water massage where you will be floating on the relaxing warm water while enjoying a

Priced at €15 per person, the tour includes a snack from the Lava Restaurant, a cocktail from the bar and a science lesson in the lagoon’s very own lab.

Everywhere in Oslo, Norwegians seemed happy with their way of life. They drink fresh water right from the tap, health care is not a worry, and the whole country appears very well off. Oslo is like a best kept secret, one you don’t want to share with anyone for fear of the word

getting out and mobs of annoying tourists showing up.

The Thief Oslo’s new cultural center was once a haven for smugglers, thieves, scoundrels, and prostitutes in the 18th century. Now Tjuvholmen (Thief Islet) is a modern hideaway where Jay Z, Mariah Carey, Lena Dunham, and other famous Americans have stayed. The hip, luxurious setting on the water is filled with carefully selected designer furniture, The Thief Master Suite global Nordic cuisine, a lavish spa (that you can enter privately from your room through an underground tunnel), and ultra-chic rooftop and library bars. The Thief features an endless variety of healthy breakfast options, where loose leaf tea and fresh brewed coffee in a personal pot are brought to your table, while healthy juice shots and blended concoctions served in little glass jars were too satisfying. The organic, sustainable, and locally sourced ingredients were the best way to start each day, with options such as bacon, eggs, croissants, beans, cheeses, or fresh yogurt with a myriad of seed, nut, and dried fruit toppings.

Hanami This chic waterside Japanese restaurant specializes in the best sushi and robata grilled dishes.

Upon entering, we gazed at the King’s boat while devouring endless plates of sushi – like uni, salmon with mango and honey dressing, tuna in truffle soy sauce, and smoked halibut with soy onion sauce and goji. We learned that we were sitting in Jay Z’s seat on his last visit and he had ordered a large sushi take-out for his jet ride out of Norway.

Ett Bord This is Oslo’s first true social dining experience – with a long communal eating table that seats 24 people. The lovely owners set out to change the way people eat. Expect a clean sleek setting with farm to table, organic, seasonal, Nordic cuisine.

Kolonihagen Frogner Enter through this beautiful white-themed courtyard filled with boho rustic furniture and pass the tiny indoor bar. Dine on nouveau Nordic cuisine “showcasing the full potential of the seasons” like grilled cabbage, potato churros with sour cream and fish roe, deep fried shallots (like an onion ring), and cured duck with a crispy waffle.

Himkok This underground speakeasy in the city centre serves seasonal spirits (aquavit, gin, vodka) which are made in-house. Drinks come with names like Cloudberry, Sage, or the Beta Cocktail (a favorite) – a mix of Himkok vodka, carrot juice, ginseng, grapefruit and a dash of horseradish.

Fuglen Known as one of the best coffee bars by day, this coffee roaster focuses on sourcing directly from the best coffee farmers around the world in a relaxed atmosphere with midcentury modern design. By 9 pm, this roaster turns into one of the best craft cocktail bars with homemade syrups and a lively atmosphere.

EXPLORE National Opera House Book an evening at this modern venue with its slanted sloping roof angles – an architectural gem built in 2008 by the same company that designed the 9/11 Memorial. The opera house is said to be built like an enormous glacier sliding or perhaps rising in the fjord. White granite and Italian marble create the illusion of glistening ice. Visitors are encouraged to scale the building’s exterior stairs for unique perspectives of the city as well as head to the roof for panoramic views.

Northern Europe. The building itself is a piece of art. Designed by Renzo Piano, three pavilions are connected by one roof and is a quick walk from The Thief.

Nobel Peace Centre Open every day but Monday, don’t miss their room of laureates, with interactive tablets telling the stories of each person or organization to win the Peace Prize. An eye opening and timely interactive exhibit on the atomic bomb, its history, and effects was on view, leaving us with a scary sense of the death and disease caused by this horrific act of war.

Viking Shi p Museum Learn about the history of preserved 9th century Viking ships that were used as burial coffins, many filled with animals and other offerings.

These ancient ships were found buried, with their masts sticking up out of the ground. The first time we found this museum, we took a short boat ride from Oslo Fjord to Bygdøy Peninsula, then walked through the neighborhood, giving us a glimpse of Norwegian life.

Vigeland Sculpture Park Admire Gustav Vigeland’s lifework with more than 200 sculptures in bronze, granite, and wrought iron in Frogner Park. It is the largest sculpture park made by a single artist.

The legendary Aqua Star Pool is Beverly Hills’ largest pool and is the setting for numerous recognizable photo shoots.

The Beverly Hilton opened in 1955 by distinguished hotelier Conrad Hilton. The hotel’s ground-floor nightclub, the Bali Room (now the International Ballroom), was so versatile that its beautiful jeweled stage and dance floor could be converted to an ice skating rink when the occasion called for it.

July 10, 1960 marked the Democratic National Convention Closing Ceremonies; Presidential

nominee John F. Kennedy held a gala fundraiser at The Beverly Hilton where his pal Frank Sinatra rounded up a host of celebrities including Milton Berle, Janet Leigh, Tony Curtis, Judy Garland, Mort Sahl and the entire ‘Jack Pack’ to mingle with the crowd of 2,800 supporters. By the time Judy Garland began her second number, the crowd had filled two separate ballrooms to capacity.

Along with First Lady Maria Shriver and a small group of 60 friends, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger celebrated his 58th birthday in July of 2005 with a California-shaped cake specially designed by The Beverly Hilton’s executive pastry chef.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Hollywood Roosevelt and have to say it was a walk down Hollywood memory lane. As you walk in the front entrance, you can see the Hollywood Walk of Fame which makes you feel in the heart of it all. The team was accommodating and Adam, the Manager on site could not be more attentive to

the guests and their needs. I took a tour of the property and loved how they kept the integrity of this iconic building with some modern improvements. When visiting the pool area we had the privilege of seeing the Marilyn Monroe Suite that she lived in for over 2 years and found out that one of the first commercials she was in was filmed at the Roosevelt Pool. Right next to the pool there is an outdoor garden area that can be rented out for small gatherings with lush greens and a feel of old meets new Hollywood. One of the restaurants on premises, 25 Degrees, had a pub like feel with red designed wallpaper and chandeliers above.

The food quality was top notch with a gorgeous presentation. I truly loved the location which was in walking distance to TCL Chinese Theatre, Madame Tussauds, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Dolby Theater. If you want to get out at night, the Sunset Strip is an Uber ride or short walk away. From The Viper Room to Whiskey A Go Go these venues have hosted rock ‘n’ roll’s most important bands from the Doors, Led Zepplin, Janis Joplin to today’s up and coming new artists- these are ‘must sees’ in the neighborhood.

Characters with Serious Dilemmas

enneth Lonergan writes plays that are old-fashioned in the best sense.

He presents believable characters facing real challenges. As his Oscar-winning “Manchester By the Sea” shows, he makes films that have similar qualities.

“Lobby Hero,” now playing for the first time on Broadway, was first produced offBroadway in 2001 and it is at least as timely today. This is the first production by Second Stage Theater at its new Broadway venue.

Production values are top-notch, from the set by David Rockwell to the direction by Trip Cullman of a fine cast.

Michael Cera, who had been one of the three actors in Lonergan’s “This is our Youth,” the first of his plays to reach Broadway, again displays his affinity for the author. Chris

Evans (making his Broadway debut) is an amoral police officer named Bill. This role is a far cry from the part for which he is best known: Captain America in the Marvel Comics movies. As the female police officer, Dawn, Bel Powley is thoroughly credible; I didn’t discover the actress is English until afterward. Perhaps the standout performance is by Brian Tyree Henry (pf FX’s “Atlanta”) in the complex role of William.

Jeff (Cera) is a night-time security guard in a Manhattan apartment building. He is well-meaning, but a bit of loser. He had been in the Navy until he was caught smoking marijuana. William (Henry) is his supervisor, a sober family man with the desire to advance his career. He tries to pass his wisdom and sense of responsibility to the weak-willed Jeff.

The heart of the play is the following dilemma: William’s brother (never seen on-stage) is suspected of a terrible crime and asks William to provide a false alibi.

William reveals his dilemma to Jeff. (That part doesn’t ring true.)

The other actors on stage are a male and female police team. Bill is a sleaze, a married man carrying on with a tenant in the building as well as with his partner on the job, Dawn.

This raises the issue of sexual harassment, which makes Lonergan’s writing especially timely. Since William is African-American, there are also issues about racial justice.

“Lobby Hero” (at the Hayes Theater) is highly recommended as a thought provoking evening at the theater.

I believe that imagination is the passport we create to take us into the real world,” proffers the conman and self-proclaimed son of Sidney Poitier, Paul Poitier, in John Guare’s Six Degrees of Separation - a play that questions the premise of identity as much as it does the values of the effete upper class who give credence to pedigree. Watching Guare’s play, one sympathizes with Paul’s need to reinvent himself so that he can join an elite circle.

One even senses that the well-rehearsed interloper does more to earn the sought-for lifestyle than the phonies who inherited their status. But while Guare may have intellectually flirted with the idea that a man with a false identity can be more genuine than the crowd he’s infiltrating, when it came to confronting David Hampton – the real person his play is based on – the playwright took a less philosophical view and, instead, applied for a restraining order.

Were David Cale to meet the charismatic namesake of his play Harry Clarke, it’s more than likely he’d have done the same.

Directed by Leigh Silverman of Violet renowned (the 1997 musical by Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crowley), Harry Clarke is a one-man thriller that gives ample room for its multifaceted powerhouse star, Billy Crudup. Trapped in the nondescript Midwestern town of South Bend, Indiana, we meet Philip years prior to his transformation into Harry of the title. Philip Brugglestein is an eight-year-old who’s testing out a British accent that jumps between a posh queen’s English and cockney patois. What first seems like endearing foolery soon betrays desperation. Like the character Dave in Steve Tesich’s classic screenplay Breaking Away – a bicycle-racing youth in Indiana who pretends to be Italian in order to escape the monotony of his life – Philip longs to be elsewhere. Like Dave’s dad who doesn’t know what to make of his son’s ‘Itey (Italian) talk,’ Phil’s dad doesn’t get his son’s ‘Britty Brit.’ Sadly, similarities end here since Philip’s dad, Jack, is a caustic and oppressive bully. Assuming his father’s voice, Philip introduces us to Jack – a man who threatens Philip with electro-shock therapy if he won’t stop speaking with a British dialect.

It’s not uncommon for artists to concoct a lie in the service of a greater truth – to express an emotional reality in the guise of an alien character that’s unencumbered by the minutiae of their own history.

Our story resumes years later with the death of Philip’s parents and the simultaneous death of Philip as we know him. Philip has been reborn as Harry Clarke, the dapper and charismatic world traveler who hails from London and has moved to Manhattan after having abandoned his job as tour manager, personal assistant and smooth operator par excellence for Sade. Well, at least this is the story he tells Mark Schmidt, the well-to-do WASP from Long Island who does his and his family’s utmost to ensure that Harry continues to live in the style he was never accustomed to living (sic).

As Mark and his gullible family are dragged to the depths of Harry’s fantasy, the mood shifts from comedy to drama to absurd tragedy in the course of an act. Crudup gives us a virtuoso performance, depicting Harry and his entire cast of victims step by horrific step.

Playwright David Cale teeters on the edge of fantasy and reality. His play, Harry Clarke, can be read as the type of whimsical but dark-edged fantasy in which all those with thwarted ambitions indulge.

Doesn’t every playwright pretend to be other people precisely when writing a play closest to their hearts? And how many writers don’t feel that they have, on some level, conned the world into believing they have deep insights while still harboring doubts themselves? And still it’s very different to fabricate characters within the realm of one’s own creation than to involve nonconsenting strangers in your lie. Meeting a real David Hampton or Alan Conway (the man who pretended to be Stanley Kubrick and was depicted in the film Color me Kubrick) is very different than imagining oneself into Kubrick’s head and writing a play about him. Likewise, witnessing the talents of a Talented Mr. Ripley in person is a far cry from having been friends with Patricia Highsmith while she put herself in Ripley’s place to writer her book.

David Cale, like the character Philip Brugglestein invented, did come from the UK. After coming to New York, he performed a one-man show about a boy who was busy listening to Judy Garland records while his father killed his mother. Later the same boy becomes a prostitute before raising enough money to fly to New York. On the plane ride over, he meets his future self. Which part had to do with Cale’s own life? Aside from being born in London and coming to New York, absolutely nothing. That doesn’t mean the rest didn’t have emotional reality. David Cale is Harry Clarke as much and as little as John Guare is David Hampton. In fantasy, they may be similar. But in deeds, there is a world of difference between life and art. As the play Harry Clarke came to a close, I realized we all have our own fantasies – childish dreams that must forever remain safely tucked away in our own imaginations.

he New York Center for Children (NYCC) is hosting its 23rd Annual Spring Celebration Benefit on Monday, April 30, 2018 between 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Clement Restaurant at the Peninsula Hotel in New York City. The NYCC will celebrate over 20 years of helping the most vulnerable children achieve their full potential.

The benefit, which coincides with National Child Abuse Prevention Month, helps raise funds for the Center’s work in healing, prevention and education.

This year’s event will feature a “Lift Me Up” theme, which reflects the organization’s aim to bring about hope and help children achieve their dreams. The benefit will feature live music by Award Winning Eco-Music Ensemble Englewinds, and a silent auction featuring coveted travel offers, fine dining, tickets to cultural performances, high end fashion accessories and more.

Founded in 1995, NYCC is the only independent center in New York City to provide free, comprehensive evaluation and therapy services to children who

have experienced physical and sexual abuse and their families, for as long as their healing requires.

The dedicated staff will never turn a child in need away. NYCC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies on donations to ensure it is able to provide these services.

Honorary Chair of the NYCC Board of Directors, Kate Spade, believes that at the Center, “Children are supported in their journey to a safer place.”

To date, the center has helped more than 15,000 families receive care. The NYCC also provides groundbreaking training programs on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of child abuse, attended by medical students, doctors, nurses and first responders worldwide. More than 20,000 professionals have been trained through NYCC’s educational programs.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served and all proceeds of the night will benefit the center.

aya Henry, model, actress, and reality star of “Hangin’ with Los Henrys,” opened the highly anticipated Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Alta Sartoria runway fashion show at the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City. Maya wore a stunning floral embroidered and jewel encrusted Dolce & Gabanna couture gown with a garland of flowers in her hair.

The runway show took place inside the Soumaya Museum, located in the upmarket district of Polanco. Models walked a runway flanked with works of art and precious sculptures. The entire Henry family (stars of “Hangin with Los Henrys) also came

out to support Maya’s debut. Model/influencers Michelle Salas, Diego Boneta, and Junapa Zurita also walked in the show. The show was attended

The $4.5 million event took 2 months to plan and featured performances by Austin Mahone, DJ Khaled, Cardi B and a set by DJ Ruckus.

The evening also featured fire dancers and a spectacular firework show over the water, and as the icing on the cake, the guest of honor was gifted a Patek Philippe watch from Pristine Jewelers in NYC. Bocker continues to open more doors for Marie and different roads to travel. His bout with Lymphoma has helped Marie learn so much and has sparked her interest to learn more about comparative oncology and to be involved so that others don’t have to go through what they did. They have partnered with the Animal Cancer Foundation and it is there mission to increase awareness and to help find a cure. Bocker is still leading Marie down a new path and that he will be here until his work is done. She always tells people that Bocker has been her therapy dog first! He has definitely made a huge difference in Marie’s life and she knows he has touched and affected the lives of so many. In 2011 Marie’s husband, and very best friend, passed very suddenly and without Bocker, she did not know what direction her life would take. A close friend told her, “It’s not time that heals, it’s what you do with the time that heals. Marie knows she is the luckiest person in the world to have Bocker by her side, helping her heal, and continuing to make a difference for others. pring is in the air… Can Summer be far ahead ? I introduce to a new fur baby, Bocker number 2. Two years ago I introduced you to Bocker number 1, a beautiful Labradoodle.

Booker 1 and his owner authored a great book Chasing Bookers Tail. Marie and her Bocker were there for the Sandy Hook victims and their families.

Bocker was also the spokesman for the NYS Animal Advocacy, being the voice against animal cruelty and works to help homeless animals in search of there fur ever home., Marie was not sure that she wanted to get another dog. But Marie knew that she had to get another fur baby to carry on the important work that her and Booker 1 had started. Bocker number 2 will still visit hospitals and be there for people in need and animals. As Marie says” her Bockers have rescued her, and has

greatly enriched her life more then she can ever imagine. Her beloved husband Steve who has passed on, named Bocker after the New York Knicks…And the Legend lives on in Booker number 2… Remember rescue there are thousands of wonderful animals out there, who need us..

So obvious in all these ways is how Bocker has changed Marie . Yes, lots of fun doing all the photo shoots and meeting so many amazing people along the way, but in all honesty, the most rewarding part of Bocker’s life to Marie is how he has been able to help others and continue to bring smiles just by walking into a room. He has become a spokes dog for NYS Animal Advocacy, being the voice against animal cruelty, and works to help homeless animals in search of their fur ever homes.
