nettle tea ceremony

in_my_presence (IMP) is an improvisation collective of artists who combine visual and somatic methods to explore relationships between bodies, objects, space and history in outdoor locations and other sites. We use movement, sound, image and sculpture to communicate and document experiences of time and duration in live action.

Stinging nettle is a versatile plant used in culinary dishes and for its medicinal properties.

It can be drunk as a tea, with its distinct earthy flavour. When brewed the leaves create a stainglass yellow, the pigment of which can be used to dye fabrics. The soaked leaves have a sculptural quality, similar to the ornamental designs of Victorian furniture. The collective offer a tealike ceremony where nettle is treated as a creative resource to make other small interventions using food, fabrics and drawing utensils within the context of Granton Castle Walled Garden hosting its first food festival.
