FROM OUR DIRECTOR Dear friends, The first few months of 2023 have proven to be the most difficult for us since becoming incorporated in July of 2014.

Due to veterinary clinics not performing elective surgeries during the shutdown from PPE shortages, the number of unwanted pets has skyrocketed. We recently hit a record breaking number of animals in our care and hundreds of more requests coming in each and every day. We are finding it impossible to find space, fosters, and resources to meet the needs of our community.

OUR 2023 IMPACT 788 pets rescued 401 pets adopted 182 pets safely transported to rescue partners

Earlier this month, members of our team visited organizations in larger communities to tour their facilities and research programs that could benefit our community.

As we finalize our new facility plans, we are becoming much more aware of the impact it will allow us to make. We are hopeful for the future and will continue to do everything we can to better the lives of animals in our community.

Every foster and kennel is FULL and we need your help! Reduced adoption fees ALL week long with a special parking lot event on Friday, May 5th at Enterprise Park Lanes with lots of canines looking for forever homes! May 6th both canines and felines will be at the Barker Shoppe waiting to meet their new families. Come see us on May 7th and get your pets up to date on their vaccinations. Flea and tick medication will also be available while supplies last. You will enter in gate 10 off of Smith Street.

The gate will open at 8 a.m. Please be in line by 11 a.m. All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in carriers. We accept cash or card.

Our big green egg raffle is back to raise funds for our emergency rescue program! Tickets are $10 and go on sale on May 8th, 2023. Tickets will be available to purchase online or at our office located at 1927 E. Bennett STE B in Springfield. We appreciate your support so we can continue helping those who need us most!

SWAGGER'S AMAZING WILL TO LIVE

RASPBERRY SURVIVES UNTHINKABLE ABUSE On November 11th, 2022 a frantic woman came to our office begging for help for a dog that she just witnessed being kicked repeatedly and thrown into a wall. We followed her out to her car and saw the saddest brown eyes cowering in the seat. We hugged her and promised no one would hurt her again. At the vet, an x-ray showed a spinal injury.

She was sent to a specialist for an MRI where we learned there was irreversible damage.

Unfortunately the trauma has left her incontinent and she has trouble absorbing nutrients. She is in a wonderful foster home and is now gaining weight.

She does have to wear diapers when not outside but nothing slows this girl down! Raspberry is a happy dog and is looking for a forever home that would welcome a special needs dog.

On April 6th, Swagger wandered up to a property begging for help. Due to his extensive injuries the property owner reached out to Rescue One for help. Upon examination we knew that he had injuries to his nose and shoulder but we were shocked at what the x-rays revealed. Swagger had been shot not once but TWICE and had a large bullet lodged in his jaw. The first veterinarian we saw suggested we euthanize him as his jaw was beyond repair. We got a second opinion because we had a similar situation with Trooper last year and we are so glad we did! Thanks to your donations, Companion Animals Dentistry in Kansas City performed the surgery and he is doing amazing. Through all of the pain and procedures, he has been the sweetest patient. Stay tuned as Swagger will be ready for his forever home soon!

Meet Rizzoli Rizzoli is a 4 year old Lab/Dane mix and prefers to be an only pet. She is a large dog so no small kids as we would not want their to be any fall over accidents.

She is housebroken and doesn't need a lot of exercise. She is currently in boarding and is very lonely.

Meet BFG BFG is a 5 year old FIV+ cat which means he might be more susceptible to infections.

However, most FIV+ cats live an average lifespan and can live with other cats. He would be purr-fectly content being your only cat though. He would like a calm, quiet environment, so high energy dogs or kiddos would stress him out.

Meet Stellaluna Stellaluna is a beautiful 3 year old, 55lb, Lab mix.She can be shy with new people but warms up quickly. She does well with dogs after slow introductions but would be great as an only pet as well. Stellaluna is super smart and is working on her leash skills. Her ideal home would be laid back with a fenced yard.

RESCUE ONE MEDICAL FACILITY We are honored to receive the Killuminati Foundation's Vet Clinic of the Year award!

Opening our own clinic in 2020 has allowed us to increase the number of animals we are able to rescue and provide them with fast and efficient care. The clinic has allowed to expand our emergency rescue program, TNR program, and outreach programs. We are blessed to have a skilled, compassionate staff and a wonderful community that supports us.

NEW FREEDOM FOSTER PROGRAM Last month we launched a new program to help dogs being relinquished from commercial breeding facilities called Freedom Fosters. Dogs are coming in to this program from breeders contacting us directly or from another organization who receives unwanted or unsold dogs from the dog auctions. A dog auction is a marketplace where breeders go to sell off their unwanted breeding and unsellable “stock.” In March, over 2,000 dogs were listed in auctions in Missouri alone. While there are breeders who love their dogs and raise them in their living rooms, those breeders are not selling their dogs at auctions. This is business of money, not love. While there are organizations that purchase dogs from auctions or directly from breeders, that is NOT our mission. Rescue One does not buy dogs from breeders but will rescue them as we have fosters available for them.
