Best Landscaper Weekend Warriors
BY KEITH O’CONNOR
Special to the Republican
What is the definition of a “weekend warrior.” Webster’s dictionary describes a weekend warrior as “a person who participates in an unusually physically strenuous activity only on weekends or part time.” Robbie Wojcik and Kevin Reilly are two weekend warriors who just happen to call their business Weekend Warriors Landscaping. “We both have seven daughters between us, so we need to work hard to bring in extra money to support them,” laughed Robbie. “It all started with the two of us snow blowing for friends and family and grew from there. Kevin is part of the construction union and I am a manager in the corporate world and we both wanted to do something for ourselves that we could build into a fulltime business.” And they are well on the way after having been in business for just a short while only to be recognized as the #1 Landscaper in

the annual Reader Raves 2027 poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “We’re proud to be a Reader Raves winner and incredibly grateful to our customers and community for their continued trust and support,” said the Weekend Warriors on their Facebook page. At Weekend Warriors

Best Bakery
Cerrato’s Bakery
BY KEITH O’CONNOR
Special to The Republican
They look so good you almost don’t want to eat them.
But plenty of people who find them “indescribably delicious” can’t wait to eat the scrumptious pastries
at Cerrato’s Pastry Shop which they voted #1 Bakery in the annual Reader Raves 2027 poll presented by
The Republican and MassLive. Born in Salerno, Italy, the late Antonio Cerrato began his culinary journey at the young age of 12. He moved to the United States when he was 22 and four years later opened Cerrato’s Pastry Shop in West Springfield. Today, his daughter Bella Cerrato is carrying on his legacy while at the same time adding her own modern twist to some of their beloved traditional Italian recipes. “It’s great and humbling to be recognized. I appreciate everyone who voted for us, many of whom regularly come into the bakery to try something new from our always changing menu,” Bella said. Those customers know Cerrato’s for their European-style cakes, cookies,
pastries and wedding cakes. Most popular confections? When it comes to pastries it is their cannoli, for round cakes it is their traditional fruit cakes - yellow sponge cake soaked in a strawberry simple syrup with Chantilly cream, strawberries, and peaches as the filling, and frosted with Chantilly cream – and for cookies it is their signature Italian cookies. “What makes our European-style cakes so special is that they are made from sponge cake and are filled with fresh fruit mousses and whipped cream, compared to popular American cakes often frosted with buttercream, which we also make,” Bella said. With autumn just around the corner, Bella will soon be making her Autumn Brew Maple Cake with coffee and hazelnut mousse, as well as maple cannoli. And it’s never too early to start thinking Thanksgiving and Christmas when apple, peach, raspberry and blueberry pies are on the menu along with chocolate and banana cream pies, lemon meringue pies and other holiday sweet treats. Before leaving the shop, located on 255 Elm St., sit a spell in their newly renovated café area and enjoy Italian and American hot coffee and other beverages. For hours, to place an order online, or for more information, visit cerratos. com or call 413-781-1139.

Flowers make us happy and have a strong emotional effect on our well-being, according to behavioral research conducted at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. If that is true, then Heather Sullivan, AIFD, CFD, owner of Durocher Florist in West Springfield must be the happiest person in the world every day, while making others happy at the same time with her beautiful floral arrangements. “I believe flowers have fresh, live elements to them offering an experience you don’t get from other products. They have a wonderful fragrance and fill up any room with beauty,” Heather said. She has managed Durocher Florist for 24 years before becoming owner in 2019, continuing today to provide decorative displays
admired by customers for all occasions - birthdays to anniversaries, Valentine’s Day to Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, weddings to funerals, or simply just to cheer someone up or say, “I love you.” Recognizing the beauty they create every day, voters in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive have selected Durocher Florist as Best Flower Shop. “It’s amazing to be recognized. I love the community so much and being honored by customers means a lot about the excellent customer service and product we offer,” Heather said. And giving back to the community is important to her. Durocher Florist is involved in many community events such as the Annual Festival of Flowers at the Springfield Museums.
They also donate their time and designs to the local Boys & Girls Club, Ronald McDonald House, Shriner’s Hospital, and Link to Libraries. Durocher Florist also sells a variety of plants, locally made gifts, gourmet baskets, memory lanterns, and more. Christmas is an especially busy time at the shop. In addition to the many gift items perfect for Christmas giving, the large showroom is filled with at least six Christmas trees decorated with different themes and ornaments for sale. “It’s inspiring,” Heather said. Durocher Florist is located at 184 Union St. in West Springfield. For hours and more information, or to order flowers or have them delivered, visit durocherflorist.com or call 413-785-5148.

Best car dealer Gary Rome Hyundai BY KEITH O’CONNOR Special to the Republican
Rome wasn’t built in a day, neither was Gary Rome Auto Group. Born and raised in Holyoke, Rome is a second-generation car dealer, following in his father Jerry Rome’s footsteps who started Bay State Motors on Maple Street in 1958, which became Jerry Rome Motor Company and later Jerry Rome Nissan. In 1977, at the age of 16, Gary began working for his father, eventually purchasing the West Springfield Nissan dealership in 1997 and making his own mark in the industry. Today, as President of Gary Rome Auto Group, his car empire includes Gary Rome Hyundai on 150 Whitings Farm Road in Holyoke and

Gary Rome Kia of Enfield on 809 Enfield St. Gary still has his father’s photo on his website and once ran a commercial showing his father saying, “Gary, it doesn’t cost any extra to be nice.” And customers agree that he listened to his father and voted Gary Rome Auto Group as the #1 Car Dealer in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “It feels humbling to be acknowledged for what we do every day as a team at our dealerships and for our efforts in the community,” said Gary, who, along with staff, gives back to the community through many philanthropic initiatives. “We understand that we are really in the hospitality
business and our job is that we are actors on a stage providing the most memorable performance for clients so that they will come back for an encore,” he added. But don’t just take the word of voters in Reader Raves. Gary and his dealerships have also won many national and regional awards including Hyundai Dealer of the Year multiple times, the prestigious TIME Dealer of the Year, Hyundai Board of Excellence Award for excelling customer satisfaction, sales and operations among a select group of dealers. When teachers and students returned to St. Thomas the Apostle School in West Springfield for fall classes, there was a big surprise waiting for them. Voters in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive gave thumbs up to St. Thomas as #1 Private School and named principal Elizabeth Hawley as #1 School Principal. Founded in 1932, St. Thomas the Apostle School provides challenging academics for students from preschool to grade eight in an environment that is safe, nurturing, and peaceful. The Catholic school offers small class sizes, state-ofthe-art technology, and a staff dedicated to help each child succeed. “Obviously, a Catholic education teaches about faith and morals to our children. As for everyday academics, our students consistently score high in
state measurements of their aptitude. And our faculty is incredibly dedicated to our students and all of their needs,” said Rev. John K. Shaeffer, KCHS, Pastor at St. Thomas. It is Miss Hawley’s third year as principal at St. Thomas. “St. Thomas the Apostle School isn’t just about students and faculty, it is also about families, and as the #1 School Principal in Reader Raves, Miss Hawley is very supportive of all of them. She is very positive, a good influence, and not afraid to be funny in front of the children. So, I think they find her incredibly relatable,” Rev. Schaeffer said. Miss Hawley said the award “is not just one for me.” “It is one shared with the entire school community from teachers to students to parents. I think voters look
at me as a leader, the type of person who is responsible for overseeing a talented faculty and an academic program that benefits all students. It says parents are happy with the academic and faith mission of our school,” Miss Hawley said. “Faith is very much front and center when you walk through our front door. Every class begins with a prayer, and we teach our students to be service-oriented. Each day of the school week at least one class attends mass and then once a month the entire school comes together for mass with families invited to attend,” she added. St. Thomas the Apostle School welcomes students of all faiths. Call the school office for more information at 413-739-4131 or email jwhitehead@stthomasapostleschool.org.

Best Charity event Square oNe Derby
BY KEITH O’CONNOR
SPECIAL TO THE REPUBLICAN
Unless you have organized a really big event, no one realizes the time and effort needed to create a successful fundraising party like the annual Square One Kentucky Derby Party. Held on May 2 at The Armory at MGM Springfield, The Derby Party raised a net income of $55,000 for Square One. Participants dressed to the nines for the event, just as you would see if you were at Churchill Downs watching the race in person - including wearing those fabulous big hats - enjoyed great food and drink, prizes and the company of friends, all while watching the race on the big screen. Those generous Derby participants and other support-
ers of Square One, one of the oldest not-for-profits in the region since 1883, have voted the Kentucky Derby Party as #1 Charity Event in the annual Reader Raves 2027 poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “I’m proud how our event has grown over the years with new guests, new partners and new sponsors supporting us. Every year we sell out and next year after having outgrown the Armory at MGM we will be moving the Derby to GreatHorse in Hampden,” said Kristine Allard, Vice President of Development & Engagement. “It is extremely important for us to raise revenue to sustain and grow our programs and services. The Derby is another opportunity to increase our visibility

served. The agency’s focus is on providing opportunities for children, youth and families to build the foundation for lifelong learning, to make smart choices, and to grow strong cognitively, emotionally, socially and physically. They accomplish this by providing high-qual-

When it comes to choosing from a market filled with banks, voters in the annual Reader Raves 2027 poll presented by The Republican and MassLive have chosen PeoplesBank as the #1 Local Bank. “We take great pride in this award,” according to Frank Crinella, Chief Banking Officer at PeoplesBank. “It is the result of the collaborative approach our employees take to ensure each customer is respected and valued by our organization. At PeoplesBank, we continue to work hard to sustain a culture that prioritizes our customers, our associates, and our communities. something a satisfaction survey cannot: the relationship registers outside the branch, in how customers describe the bank to everyone else. With fraud rampant in today’s society, PeoplesBank puts one rule at the top of its fraud tips page, and it is
the one worth memorizing: “PeoplesBank will never call or text you to ask for personal information and passwords.” If someone does, hang up and call the bank directly at 413-538-9500. “Scammers rely on urgency because urgency is what
stops people from checking,” said Aleda DeMaria, Chief Operating Officer at PeoplesBank. “Any message that pressures you to act right now is a message worth slowing down on. Hang up and call us back using a phone number on your debit card, account statement, or our website. We’ll ask all the right questions to ensure customers haven’t lost money, and we may be able to help recommend additional measures of protection.” Dating back to 1885, today PeoplesBank offers personal and business accounts, loans and financial services in Western MA and Northern CT. That’s why pet owners have voted Dakin Health Center as #1 Veterinary Clinic in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “Winning Best Veterinary Clinic is an incredible honor once again for the Dakin Pet Health Center. It validates our core mission of making quality veterinary care accessible, compassionate, and non-judgmental for every pet and owner in our community. Above all, this recognition tells us that accessible care truly changes lives. For many families, financial constraints or a lack of resources are the biggest barriers to keeping a pet healthy, and being voted number one shows that treating people with dignity while providing top tier medical care creates deep,

It’s not always easy to leave your home behind. But the welcoming staff and residents at Glenmeadow in Longmeadow make the transition easy for those joining what they refer to as the “neighborhood,” whether choosing independent or assisted living. Voters in the annual Reader Raves 2027 poll presented by The Republican and MassLive, who sing the praises of Glenmeadow, have voted them with dual honors as #1 Retirement Living Community and #1 Assisted Living Community. “It feels extremely validating to be selected for both honors. It tells us that what we are doing for our residents is appreciated and meaningful to them,” said Meaghan Carrier, Glenmeadow’s Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Resident Experience. “We bring peace of mind and a sense of belonging to
our residents, who can still enjoy their independence, participate in a variety of activities, all while developing new friendships and meeting wonderful people who generally care about you,” she added. Designed around socialization, wellness, and relaxation, Glenmeadow prioritizes the health and happiness of their residents in an environment focused on safety, comfort, and connection. There is always something going on at Glenmeadow. It may be taking a relaxing swim in the indoor pool, exercising in the wellness and fitness center, enjoying flavorful menus in formal and casual dining venues throughout the community, stopping into the library to read the newspaper or a good book, and so much more. Glenmeadow is celebrating its 140th anniversary. From their founding as a nonprofit, they have remained committed to nurturing a vibrant com-

President George Timmons. The many students who have been served by Holyoke Community College since its founding in 1946 agree and have voted HCC as Best College/University in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “This recognition belongs to our entire college community. It reflects our faculty and staff ’s dedication, our students’ resilience and accomplishments, our trustees’ leadership, and the support of our alumni, families, and community partners,” said President Timmons. “As HCC’s first African American president, I am especially grateful for that support. It encourages me that our commitment to student success, equity, inclusion, and community engagement is being seen and appreciated. At the same time, it reminds me that recognition comes with responsibility: to continue listening, leading with
integrity, and ensuring that our actions reflect the values and aspirations of the students, families and communities we serve,” he added. HCC also serve as essential partners to local employers, schools, nonprofit organizations, and communities. Their programs respond directly to regional needs while helping students overcome barriers and achieve economic mobility. “At HCC, we aspire to be an engine of equity and transformation. We do more than provide access to education. We create a sense of belonging, connect students with the support they need, and help them envision and achieve a future they may not have previously believed was possible,” President Timmons said. To learn more about HCC, located on 303 Homestead Ave., and the many opportunities that await you, visit hcc.edu or call 413-5387000.

Majestic hosts seasonal concerts and limited shows, improv comedy, an annual holiday show, children’s theater, and education for young actors. New additions to the
year-long lineup include Torch Song Tuesday, a musical cabaret in the candlelit Majestic Café and Majestic Murder Mysteries at Tansey’s Catered Table in Feeding Hills featuring

This year’s theater season began on September 13 with “Nunsense” and continues through May with “Lend Me a Tenor,” “Eureka Day,” “The Price,” and “West Side Story.” As the holidays approach, from December 3-20, the theater will honor the most wonderful time of the year with its annual production of “Home for the Holidays,” based on those nostalgic television Christmas specials of years past starring Andy Williams and Perry Como. Today there are over 3,000 taekwondo schools in the United States, including Massachusetts Taekwondo Academy in East Longmeadow, the only facility in Western Massachusetts with both taekwondo and kickboxing state and national champions. But not a single one of those schools, except for Massachusetts Taekwondo Academy in East Longmeadow, can boast receiving recognition as the # 1Martial Arts School in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “Receiving the award is a good demonstration of all the years of hard work and effort invested in our students. It’s also a nice way to be seen by the public who may not be familiar with what we do,” said Taekwondo Master Mehrdad Khabir, owner of Massachusetts Taekwondo Academy. “Taekwondo means the way of the foot and fist,” he said. According to the World Taekwondo Federation
(WTF) - the International Governing Body for the sport - taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing one’s spirit and life through training the body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation and stands among the official games in the Olympics. In addition to classes, Massachusetts Taekwondo Academy offers before and after school programs for children, as well as a summer program. They are certified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. During those out-of-school hours, children participate in indoor and outdoor activities, as well as have the availability of a library, recreation room, and cafeteria. Under the guidance of their experienced instructors, participants receive group homework assistance, learn martial arts, discipline,

“Can I get a mortgage?” At Holyoke Credit Union, they have been making the dream of home ownership come true for their members for more than 100 years. And that is why voters in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive have named Holyoke Credit Union as #1 Mortgage Lender. “We’re honored to receive the award. It tells us that they are happy with the service and the programming we picked for them,” said Donna Lessard, Home Loan Consultant. It tells us that we’re communicating successfully with people because we’re fulfilling the expectations we created,” added Brian Risler, Home Loan Consultant. Holyoke Credit Union offers borrowers extensive options in real estate loans including fixed-rate, adjustable-rate, FHA, MassHousing and Jumbo Loans. They also offer Home Equity Loans – fixed-rate second mortgages and lines of credit for home improvements. “We want to be there for
our borrowers. We sit down with them; we listen to their wants and needs and set expectations for them..... helping them to understand that ‘this may be what you would like,’ but ‘financially this is what you could do right now.’ We don’t set people up to fail; we try to guide them through the whole process painlessly,” said Jennifer Brooks, Vice President of Retail Lending. And you will be given immediate feedback, so that you don’t have to wait and wonder what is happening with your loan. “We encourage our members and prospective members to meet with us in person, so that we can have the clearest communications possible and help to diminish the normal level of high anxiety that people have when they’re purchasing a home,” Brian said about their three locations in Holyoke, West Springfield and Feeding Hills. For more information, visit holyokecu.com if you prefer to apply online, or to meet in person, call Brian at 413-278-6849 or Donna at 413-319-4007.

Camp Howe may be closed for the season, but the memories remain alive for the 1,139 campers who spent part of their summer participating in day and overnight camp programs providing age-appropriate recreation activities to assist them in gaining valuable life skills. And the results are remarkable - 94% of campers have returned home more accepting of differences in others, 91% with increased self esteem, 95% more confident, and 89% with increased leadership skills. Appreciative of the growth experience provided them, voters in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive have recognized Camp Howe in Goshen as the #1 Summer Camp. “The award, which we
have received in the past, is special to us because it comes from families in the local community who have either attended our camp or sent their children here to gain the same experience they did,” said Terrie Campbell, Executive Director. “Life has become so fast paced for kids today, and our camp gives them time to reset and unplug, supported by some amazing adults who assist campers in gaining confidence, trying new things while sometimes making mistakes along the way, and building friendships. That is central to our camp experience – helping kids to discover who they are devoid of technology around them,” she added. Camp Howe is a non-profit New England summer camp for all youth between ages 7 and 17 offering contemporary
programs for one and twoweek sessions. They excel at creating a community where everyone is accepted for who they are so each child can learn to accept themselves just as they are or who they may become. Activities – ranging from archery, fishing, swimming, high and low ropes, dance, cultural awareness to team building and much more - are tools for assisting in the personal growth of an individual and the community as a whole. Campers get to choose some of their activities to fit their interests while other programs are enjoyed by their entire group to provide well-rounded experience. Registration for next summer opens January 1, 2027 for new families. Contact them at 413-268-7635, email office@camphowe. com, or visit camphowe. com.

Kristi Farrell. She believes what separates them from other cleaners is the personal attention given to every customer who comes through the door along with the garments they are bringing in for cleaning. “Repeat customer with specific requests know that each time they come in that they are going to be taken care of without having to ask us. But it’s also the quality, consistency and the reliability that we provide. We want them to feel confident that they are going to get back whatever they bring in better than when it was dropped off,” Kristi said. Looking for a good “cup of Joe.” Voters in the annual Reader Raves 2027 poll presented by The Republican and MassLive suggest trying Circuit Coffee which they have recognized as #1 Locally Owned Coffee Shop where the vibe is warm, bright, and welcoming. “It’s an absolute honor. As Ricky Bobby famously put it, ‘If you ain’t first, you’re last.’ Race cars are this year’s theme, after all. It tells us that we’re creating experiences worth coming back to,” said owner Ted Dobek. “I started Circuit Coffee because I saw a need in our area for a place that offered not just good coffee, but a truly great experience, something that was hard to find at the time,” he added.
The “coffee maestro” noted what sets them apart is “our consistency, the quality of our service and ingredients, and how deeply invested we are in our customers.” “Beyond that, we take a holistic approach. We don’t just source and serve. We take extreme care in everything we do, from roasting our own coffee and growing our own ingredients to making our own syrups and baked goods from scratch. We’re obsessive about dialing in our products regularly to ensure quality. At the end of the day, the shop is designed to be a place for genuine connection and a great experience for everyone who walks through our doors,” Ted said. And, it’s also about the beans. “We work with a few different importers, but our
primary partner is Stephen from The Coffee Quest, who has direct relationships with the producers. He is genuinely invested in the long-term success of the farms and the well-being of the farmers and their families,” Ted said. With fall around the corner, Ted noted they are ready for the change of season. “We love fall at the shop. We’re looking forward to keeping our breakfast sandwich menu exciting, and we are also celebrating our 9th anniversary. To mark the occasion, we’ll be launching a pumpkin cheesecake latte and a limited-edition 9-year birthday sticker,” he said. Circuit Coffee is located at 22 Elm St. in Westfield. The doctor is in. Voters in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive have rated Caring Health Center as their #1 choice for Best Family Physician. “Family physicians are often the people patients turn to first — and for almost everything. Whether it’s an annual physical, an urgent health concern, managing a chronic condition, discussing preventive care or simply having a doctor who knows their history and understands their family — the family physician is a trusted point of contact,” said Tania M. Barber, President and CEO of Caring Health Center.
“We are incredibly honored to be recognized as the Springfield area’s Best Family Physician for the fifth year in a row. This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes directly from the people we serve. Our providers and entire healthcare team work hard every day to build relationships with patients and provide care that is personal, compassionate and accessible. To have our community recognize that commitment is extremely rewarding,” she added. Barber noted it is also a wonderful recognition of their entire team, because excellent care is never the work of just one physician. “It takes physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical

Capturing a moment in time to preserve a special memory is what photographers do. And that is what KPKaptures, based in Chicopee, is all about. Run by 21-year-old Kameron Paul – a senior at Westfield State College where he is majoring in business management, KPKaptures “captures” his passion for photographing meaningful moments and creating high-quality visual content that tells a story that clients will cherish for years to come. For the moment, Kameron caters to a younger crowd closer to his age providing couples, graduation,
sports and events photography. In a vote of approval for his talented work, they have recognized him as Best Photographer in the
Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “It means the world to
me and I am super excited to have earned the award. I thought this was just going to be a hobby for me and wouldn’t really go anywhere. Now I’m looking to do photography fulltime after I graduate,” Kameron said. “I believe the award shows that people are loving what comes out of my camera and it makes me happy in so many ways. It shows me that I think I can keep doing this,” he added. Kameron’s passion for photography began around the age of 10 when he picked up his grandmother’s camera and went into the backyard “to play around with it.” “I really liked it and thought it was cool. But it
wouldn’t be for another 10 years that I would buy my own camera and that has been my life ever since,” he said. As a freelancer with no studio yet, Kameron is a location photographer who goes “wherever clients want me to be.” He looks forward to expanding his business to include photography for all ages from weddings to family portraits to babies and more. “Let’s get to know each other,” Kameron states on his website. Connect with him at kpkaptures.mypixieset. com or through his many socials from Facebook to Instagram to TikTok and Linkedin.

The first known professional tattoo artist in the United States was Martin Hildebrandt who established a permanent tattoo shop in New York in 1846 where early on he tattooed mainly sailors and soldiers. Today there are an estimated 23,000 tattoo shops in the country and tattoos have gone mainstream with people from all walks of life from entertainers to wrestlers to teachers and just the person next door. Modern-day tattoo artist Phil Olivera, owner of Needle Therapy Tattoo & Body Piercing, has been tattooing professionally for 24 years, working for other shops before opening his own. He has tattooed in many different styles and tones, but primarily tattoos
in full color, and specializes in making existing tattoos disappear under rich, vibrant colors. His artful designs, and those of other artists working there, has earned Needle Therapy and Body Piercing the #1 Tattoo Studio by voters in Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “It’s awesome. It’s great. For me, this award says more about our clients and how much they love us and what we do. You can have the best product in the world, but if nobody knows about it, then they’re not going to honor what you do with a vote,” Phil said. Today, roughly 82 to 88 million people have at least one tattoo, according to data from the Pew Research Center. “I believe that’s because
it allows you to express yourself. It’s all about self-expression. And in society today, that’s not something you get to do a lot. You have to dress a certain way for your job. You have to interact with people in a certain way. Your piercings and your tattoos are for you. They allow you to be you and tell a story, whatever story you’re trying to tell,’ Phil said. Needle Therapy is located at 41d Main St. in Ware. Tattoos are by appointment only as are consultations to work with one of the artists to design your own personal tattoo. Walk-ins are welcome for piercings. For more information, visit needle-therapy.com or call 413-277-0451.

You don’t have to wait for the wine critics to make their decision, the important people have already made it known. Hardwick Winery has been voted #1 Winery in the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive. “It feels incredible. We are so grateful to everyone who took the time to vote for us. We put so much heart into what we do, so to be recognized by the people who visit us, drink our wine, and support our business is a huge honor,” said John Samek, owner of Hardwick Winery. It takes a true wine lover to embark on such a journey. “Wine has always been something that I have enjoyed, but starting the winery really took that passion to another level. Once you get into the winemaking side of things, that creative part
of experimenting is really something I enjoy,” John said. John started out as a dairy farmer and wanted to continue farming. He planted their first grapes in 1997 and wanted to share their love of the land, local Quabbin history, wine, and just bringing people together. He wanted to create a place where people could come, relax, enjoy a glass of wine, listen to live local music, and just have a good time. And he succeeded. Among their customer favorites are Massetts Cranberry, Baystate Blueberry, and their newest release Midnight Blackberry, all of which have gathered quite a following. Their sweeter, fruit forward wines tend to be especially popular, but they have something for just about every palate. John noted fall is one of their favorite seasons at the winery. “There are so many great, cozy flavors to enjoy

At A Plus HVAC & Electrical they say, “The only acceptable grade is A+,” and that’s more than a slogan to
them. “It’s the standard we’re trying to live up to every day,” said founder and owner Nathan LeMay. And according to voters in
the Reader Raves 2027 annual poll presented by The Republican and MassLive, they have met that standard and have voted A Plus HVAC as #1 Home Heating Cooling Service. A Plus HVAC & Electrical has been serving Westfield and the surrounding Western Massachusetts community since 2006. They started as a family-owned business with a commitment to providing quality work and treating customers the way they would want their own family to be treated. Nathan said receiving the recognition “feels great.” “The award may have our company’s name on it, but it really belongs to our team and the customers who have trusted us. It means
even more because Reader Raves is coming from the people we serve. You can advertise and tell people you’re a great company, but when your customers are the ones saying it, that carries a completely different weight. To me, it says our team is doing something right — and it also gives us a responsibility to keep earning that trust,” he said. When choosing an HVAC company, it shouldn’t be based on price alone, Nathan noted. “You’re trusting someone with one of the most important and expensive systems in your home, so experience, reputation, licensing, training, and standing behind the work are extremely important,” he said.
The A Plus HVAC team is fully licensed, insured and vetted. They offer preventative maintenance plans and financing options. With the colder weather approaching, now is the time to start thinking about your heating system. “We recommend having your heating system serviced before the heating season begins. Preventative maintenance gives a technician an opportunity to identify worn components, safety concerns, airflow issues, or other potential problems before they turn into an unexpected no-heat call,” Nathan said. To chat with the A Plus HVAC team, call 413-3393089 or visit them online at aplushvacinc.com.
