Pineapple

Express

CHANGING HOW CANNABIS REACHES CUSTOMERS

Since opening in 2024, Pineapple Express has changed the way people access cannabis, offering a modern, delivery-first approach that skips the traditional trip to a dispensary.

Instead of waiting in line or traveling to a storefront, customers can browse products online and have them brought directly to their door – making it a more convenient, discreet, and on-demand experience that reflects the growing shift toward delivery-based services in everyday life.

Kaily Hepburn, owner and operator of

Pineapple Express, became interested in this new market type several years ago, as she thought it would be an “interesting and unique business model for small businesses,” she shared.

At the time, Hepburn said this was a new license type, and was only available to social equity participants.

“I thought there would be some room to get into the [cannabis] market in a different way,” she explained.

In 2021, Hepburn filed for the LLC and began searching for a location, filling out paperwork, among other aspects that are involved when starting a business.

In October 2024, she received commencement operations to open.

Hepburn shared that it was “really challenging” to find locations and towns that

were not “saturated with retail.” So, she figured she could get in the delivery route and “do some little differences to stand out and make a really customer-experience oriented company with bundles, and convenience, and finding a good variety of growers all over the state, and trying to cover a good portion of the state was kind of where I started thinking about it,” she said.

Today, Pineapple Express primarily focuses on deliveries from Worcester to the west. However, Hepburn noted that they do deliver all over the state, especially for monthly subscriptions or party packages.

Hepburn went on to explain how the delivery process works. “I have wholesale agreements with a bunch of different cultivators and manufacturers across the state. I order the products wholesale [and] I bring

them to my warehouse,” she said. Pineapple Express has a warehouse in Ware, where everything is stored.

When customers place their orders –either over the phone or online on their website – they must create an account, enter their email address and upload their ID to make sure they are over 21, and then the order can be placed.

From there, Hepburn said the Pineapple Express team will verify the customers ID’s in house, make sure their address is legal, and that the delivery location is a residential address. From there, everything is packed up and made ready for delivery.

“We try to get things there as quickly as possible, but you can also schedule things

out or put it on auto-ship,” Hepburn explained.

She said all the pricing is kept in line with that of a typical dispensary. Pineapple Express also offers bundles, where the prices are “pretty good,” she added.

A lot of the time, Pineapple Express does not have a delivery fee, especially if it’s local to the warehouse. However, for orders that are further away, the fee can range up to $10.

While Pineapple Express is unique in many ways, Hepburn said there are a few other businesses like it in the Western Massachusetts area.

She noted that one major challenge with this business is people not having knowl-

edge about the business model and saying “it’s not real” or legal to deliver cannabis products.

“I get that all the time, which has been one of our major challenges,” she said. “Getting our name out there and getting people to understand that it’s real, it’s easy, it’s discreet … we’re not going to be rolling up in a van with smoke pouring out of it. Our drivers are in plain clothes, you get a brown bag delivery … you know, it could be anything.”

She noted that the entire process is easy, simple and legal.

Hepburn emphasized the business’s focus on consumer education. “If people have questions about cannabis or they want to learn about different things that it can do for them or what our products are like, we can always talk to people at delivery or on the phone,” she said.

Looking ahead, Pineapple Express is looking to launch a subscription model, so that people can choose a box weekly, biweekly or monthly, and have either a selection that they choose shipped to them, or have something new based on their parameters. For instance, they could pick the type of products they like – indica, hybrid, sativa, or mix – and Pineapple Express will create a box for them to be delivered on the same day every month.

While there are countless different brands and flavors available to choose from, the seltzers’ generally have the same effects:

Fruit flavored options such as watermelon, mango and berry feel especially on-brand for the season, offering a refreshing, candy-like experience that pairs well with warm weather and outdoor activities.

Each dispensary has different gummy options available, however, the effects generally remain the same: kicking in between 30 minutes to two hours after consumption, and the effects lasting several hours.

Gummies are most popular in 5-10mg. It is encouraged to start low and go slow, as everyone’s tolerance differs.

Infused with cannabinoids like THC and

CBD, gummies can be used to help with anxiety, insomnia and enhancing relaxation, while it can also be used for recreational purposes.

This summer, consider trying a gummy to go on a hike, or to simply lounge at the beach.

Last, but certainly not least, a convenient go-to summer product are pre-rolls. Prerolls are another frequent find in dispensaries across the state. The convenience? No tools or rolling skills are required, as the product is produced and sold ready to light.

Cannabis Connection

Built Around the Customer: A Different Kind of Cannabis Retail

On a weekday morning in Westfield, the first question we hear usually isn’t, “What’s the strongest product you have?”

It’s more likely:

“I haven’t tried cannabis in years. Where should I start?”

or

“I don’t want anything too intense.”

That shift says everything.

Cannabis retail in Western Massachusetts has matured. The rush of early legalization has settled. Curiosity has turned into intention. Customers are informed. They ask thoughtful questions. They want clarity, not hype.

Massachusetts’ adult-use cannabis market surpassed $1.6 billion in sales last year alone, and cumulative sales have now exceeded $10 billion since legalization. Cannabis is no longer a novelty category. It is established retail. And as the market has grown, expectations have grown with it.

At Cannabis Connection, that evolution has shaped how we operate. We are not built around pushing products. We are built around conversation.

From Westfield to West Springfield, our team is trained to serve as a resource first and a

retailer second. The early years were about access. Today, it’s about guidance — and earning trust one interaction at a time.

A Retail Experience Built Around Conversation

Cannabis can be complex. Flower, edibles, vapes, concentrates. Different onset times. Different durations. Different effects.

For many customers, the hardest part isn’t access — it’s understanding where to begin.

That’s where our team comes in.

Every staff member at Cannabis Connection is trained not only on product knowledge, but on how to guide a conversation. What are you hoping to feel? How experienced are you? Are you looking for something new, or something familiar?

Industry research shows that cannabis customers are increasingly loyal to retailers who provide personalized recommendations. In a competitive market with more than 200

licensed adult-use dispensaries operating statewide, service has become the differentiator.

We see that shift every day.

Some customers want low-dose options they can control. Others are curious about specific cannabinoid profiles. Some simply want help navigating the menu without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Our role is not to upsell. It’s to listen, explain clearly, and make sure customers leave confident in their choice.

That approach shapes everything else. We curate our menu carefully so it offers real variety without becoming cluttered. We rotate inventory intentionally and make lab testing information available because informed decisions build long-term trust.

In both Westfield and West Springfield, the goal is the same: a professional, comfortable environment where questions are welcomed and guidance is part of the service.

The Questions We Hear Every Day

Walk into either Cannabis Connection location, and the conversation usually starts with a question.

Retail

“I haven’t tried cannabis in years. Where should I start?”

We talk about comfort level first. Low-dose edibles. Mild flower. Something predictable. The goal isn’t intensity — it’s control.

“How long will this take to kick in?”

Edibles and inhaled products work very differently. We explain onset time, duration, and how to pace responsibly. Knowing what to expect makes all the difference.

“What’s the difference between these two?”

It might be cannabinoid profile. It might be terpene expression. It might simply be format. We break it down in plain language so customers can make a decision without feeling overwhelmed.

“I don’t want anything too strong.”

We hear this often. Many customers today are focused on balance. They’re not chasing the highest THC percentage. They’re looking for manageable, consistent experiences.

“What do you recommend?”

That depends. What are you hoping to feel? Relaxed? Creative? Clear-headed? The answer isn’t a product — it’s a conversation.

Across the industry, consumer behavior has shifted from exploratory purchasing to more predictable, routine buying patterns. Customers visit fewer stores. They return to places where they feel informed and respected. These exchanges happen all day, every day.

They reflect how cannabis retail in Western Massachusetts has grown up. Customers are thoughtful. They ask informed questions. They expect straight answers.

Our team’s role is to listen first, then guide. Not to rush. Not to pressure. To make sure every customer leaves knowing exactly what they purchased and how to use it responsibly.

That’s where consultative retail matters most.

Two Locations, One Standard

Our first location opened in Westfield in 2020 with a simple goal: make the experience straightforward and comfortable.

Bright layout. Clear displays. Easy parking. A space where first-time visitors feel just as at ease as longtime customers.

In March 2024, we expanded to West Springfield along Riverdale Street, bringing the same standards to one of the region’s busiest commercial corridors. The second location wasn’t about expansion for expansion’s sake. It was about accessibility — meeting customers where

they already live and work.

Each store has its own rhythm. Westfield offers a spacious, calm showroom environment. West Springfield is streamlined for efficient service and extended weekend hours. But the foundation is identical: organized shelves, knowledgeable staff, and consistent standards. Both locations offer online ordering for quick pickup. Customers can browse live menus, reserve products, and complete visits built around real schedules.

As the Massachusetts market has matured, pricing has compressed and competition has intensified. That environment demands discipline. It demands operational consistency. And it demands long-term customer relationships rather than one-time transactions.

A More Intentional Customer — And a More Disciplined Retailer

One of the biggest changes we’ve seen is how people shop.

Many customers are now focused on balance

rather than extremes. They aren’t chasing the highest THC percentage. They want products they can understand and control.

Clear labeling matters. Lab testing matters. Transparency matters.

Others come in knowing exactly what they want — a specific format, a trusted brand, or a product they’ve had a positive experience with before. Consistency keeps them coming back.

Across the industry, data shows that loyalty grows strongest where customers receive guidance tailored to their needs. That reinforces what we see daily: trust compounds.

What ties it all together is intention. Customers are thoughtful. They expect professionalism.

They expect accountability.

state and federal levels.

In a market that has already generated billions in sales and continues to grow, long-term success will not come from novelty. It will come from consistency.

That expectation keeps us disciplined — in how we train our team, curate our inventory, and present information clearly.

Cannabis is no longer new in Massachusetts. It is regulated, competitive, and part of the broader retail landscape. The businesses that endure are those that evolve alongside their customers.

Looking Ahead

The cannabis industry will continue to change. Product formats will expand. Technology will improve online ordering and digital browsing. Regulatory conversations may evolve at the

For Cannabis Connection, that means continuing to invest in staff education. Continuing to refine our product selection to reflect how customers actually shop. Continuing to operate clean, organized stores that reflect professional standards.

Most importantly, it means continuing to begin each day the same way — with a conversation. Western Massachusetts values practicality and straight talk. That’s how we approach cannabis retail. No hype. No pressure. Just informed service and consistent standards across both our Westfield and West Springfield locations.

In a mature market, trust is the only advantage that compounds.

And that’s the connection we’re building — one customer at a time.

Cannabis and cognitiveaging. . .

Everyone has heard the age old saying, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” However, that saying might also be true with cannabis...

In a 2026 article published by NORML, it notes that aging adults who have used cannabis for some time show greater cognitive performance in comparison to those with little or no past use (Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs).

Researchers from the University of Colorado and Georgia Tech studied over 500,000 adults in the U.K. – ages 4070 – to examine brain health and thinking

skills. Participants reported their cannabis use, had MRI scans, and completed cognitive tests.

Investigators reported: “Greater lifetime cannabis use was positively associated with brain volume in regions rich in cannabinoid receptors, including the caudate, putamen, hippocampus, and anterior cingulate. Greater lifetime use was also associated with better performance on cognitive tasks assessing learning, memory, processing speed, and task switching, aligning with growing evidence of potential neuroprotective effects of cannabis in aging populations (NORML).

more unfortunate that studies refuting these long-held stereotypes seldom receive the type of mainstream attention they deserve.”

Through another recent Israeli study that measured cognitive performance, over 67,000 older individuals reported that participants with a history of cannabis use performed better in key cognitive areas, including attention, memory, processing speed, and decision-making. Also, it was discovered that past cannabis use was linked to a slower decline in executive function over time.

Further, the researchers found that cannabis use may be linked to larger brain volume and better cognitive performance in older adults, particularly in areas with many cannabinoid receptors. These results suggest cannabis could potentially have protective effects on the brain as people age.

A recent Danish study found that cannabis consumers experienced significantly less cognitive decline over their lifetimes than non-users, while a separate U.S. study of older patients with HIV reported that those with a history of occasional cannabis use showed better cognitive performance than non-users (NORML).

While research continues to evolve, findings like these suggest that cannabis may play a role in supporting cognitive health as people age.

Still, it’s important to approach use thoughtfully, as factors like dosage, frequency and individual health all matter. As with any wellness choice, staying informed and consulting trusted sources can help individuals make decisions that align with their needs and goals over time.

NORML’s Deputy Director Paul Armentano said, “These results contradict one of the more prominent and longstanding stereotypes about cannabis and cannabis consumers. It is unfortunate that these stereotypes often go unchallenged in the media and elsewhere. It is even

Terpenes:

the real MVP of your cannabis experience

Terpenes are a word you hear all the time when it comes to cannabis – but what do they actually mean?

From the way a strain smells to how it makes you feel, these compounds play a bigger role than most people realize.

According to Leafly, terpenes are the “aromatic compounds that determine the scent of many flowers and herbs, bestow cannabis with its distinctive odor, and contribute to its flavor,” (Leafly).

It’s that strong, pungent, and unmistakable cannabis smell that your nose catches before your eyes.

Found in the trichomes – sticky, translucent glands covering parts of the bud, leaves and stems of female cannabis plants – terpenes play a vital role in the growth and survival of the plant itself.

“Certain terpenes like geraniol, for example, repel insects or herbivores that might be tempted to snack on cannabis. Other terpenes, like terpinolene and linalool, attract insects and other small creatures that can help spread pollen,” (Leafly).

tions in the cannabis plant and can create a variety of “therapeutic” and “mood-altering effects” for its consumers. For instance, people have used terpene scents to create essential oils for aromatherapy.

“Anyone who’s dabbed lavender oil –which contains linalool – behind their ears knows that it can potentially help you relax. Similarly, terpenes in certain cannabis strains can add to its effects,” (Leafly).

Cannabis contains upwards of 150 types of terpenes, with the three most common being Myrcene, Caryophyllene and Limonene.

Mycrene offers fruity, sweet flavors. Caryophyllene is more warm and spicy, while Limonene provides a more tangy, lemon-lime flavor (Key Cannabis).

“Besides producing distinctive aromas, these organic compounds also enrich color and pigmentation in leaves and buds, and contribute to the flavor of cannabis,” (Leafly).

The article continued, “Although most terpenes are present in only trace amounts, the more prominent ones team together to give diverse cannabis strains their signature scent profiles. The combination of terpenes in Sour Diesel tell you of its pungent, gassy character, while Cherry Pie evokes the pleasant scent of sweet and sour cherry pie fresh out of the oven,” (Leafly).

While terpenes do promote relaxation and enhance mood, they are also emerging as an exciting new area in cannabis medicine. For years, attention has centered primarily on cannabinoids like THC and CBD for their therapeutic benefits. However, as research advances, it’s becoming clear that terpenes also carry significant medicinal potential.

Each terpene offers its own distinct set of therapeutic effects. Many of these benefits mirror the role terpenes play in plants themselves, such as protecting against harmful microbes and environmental threats.

Although preclinical students on animals and in test tubes have shown a range of the therapeutic benefits associated with terpenes, research on this topic is still in its early stages, and it has not been widely performed on humans. Therefore, more research needs to be conducted for a factual understanding of these compounds (Leafly).

Your cannabis experience isn’t just about THC and CBD – it’s also about the flavor and smell. Maybe you’re into citrusy strains for that uplifting feel, sweet ones that taste like dessert, or the really pungent stuff that stands out. Once you start paying attention to terpenes, it becomes easier to find what you like. Next time you visit your local dispensary, choose something that speaks to you. After all, everyone’s cannabis experience is different, and remember – there’s no wrong choice when it comes to what works best for you!

Terpenes also have a variety of func-

Wiseacre Farm and Howls, Insa was introduced to the family behind Spectrum and their deeply personal mission: to unlock the full therapeutic potential of cannabis through whole-plant medicine, transparency, and compassion.

Marie Myung-Ok Lee, professor and science writer, discovered the potential of medical cannabis while searching for alternatives to pharmaceutical offerings recommended for her non-speaking autistic son, Jason. Guided by renowned Harvard Medical School physician Lester Grinspoon, she turned to plant medicine, an experience that proved transformative not only for her family but for her life’s work. Today, Spectrum reflects the convergence

of three visionary paths including Wiseacre Farm’s decades of medicinal cannabis cultivation, Howls’ legacy of whole-plant tincture craftsmanship, and a family’s determination to expand access to compassionate, effective plant medicine. Together with Wiseacre’s master cultivator Jon Piasecki, and Howls’ founder Peter Glantz, the team created Spectrum to preserve the integrity of the plant while amplifying its therapeutic potential.

“When my son first experienced real relief, it was through a similar low-heat, whole-plant infusion made with growers who understood the plant deeply,” said Marie Myung-Ok Lee. “For nearly a decade, no commercial product matched

that reliability until Spectrum. We call ourselves ‘Team Spectrum,’ because it’s the synergy of cultivation, infusion, and lived experience that makes this possible. My son was once told he might never communicate, never live independently. Today he’s in community college, has friends, is writing a book. Cannabis didn’t just help him; it changed the trajectory of his life. We hope Spectrum can open doors for other families in the same way.”

Spectrum produces the fullest-spectrum medicinal cannabis tincture available today. Unlike conventional cannabis products that emphasize THC alone, Spectrum begins with rare landrace strains unadulterated ancestors of modern cannabis cultivated organically outdoors. These strains offer an unusually rich and complex profile of cannabinoids and terpenes. Using a traditional whole-plant infusion method, Spectrum infuses cannabis flower directly into organic avocado oil under gentle heat which results in a solvent-free tincture that preserves the plant’s natural entourage effect, the synergistic interaction between cannabinoids and terpenes that supports balance within the body’s endocannabinoid system.

Each batch is rigorously tested for purity and cannabinoid and terpene composition, with no pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, artificial fertilizers, solvents, additives, or common allergens. The tincture has demonstrated consistent benefits for sleep, anxiety, sensory overstimulation, and emotional regulation, areas of particular importance for individuals on the autism spectrum. As Spectrum’s exclusive retail partner, Insa is bringing this purpose-driven product to Massachusetts consumers demonstrating how regulated cannabis markets can foster innovation, wellness, and social impact.

“We’re incredibly proud to partner with Spectrum and to be the first and only retailer to share their story with the Massachusetts community,” said Peter Gallagher, CEO and Co-Founder of Insa. “Spectrum represents what cannabis can be at its best, rooted in real human impact. Massachusetts has built a market that allows meaningful wellness products to reach

people who truly need them. By introducing Spectrum through Insa, we’re helping expand access to a form of plant medicine that has the potential to support families, spark hope, and redefine what cannabis can mean for the autism community.” Through the combined expertise of Wiseacre Farm, Howls, and the Lee family, Spectrum is positioned not only as a new category of medicinal cannabis but as a model for how the industry can serve communities with empathy, integrity, and science.

Spectrum will be available on April 1, 2026 in alignment with National Autism Acceptance Month, at all Massachusetts-based Insa retailers including locations in Avon, Salem, Easthampton, and Springfield. Spectrum donates 10% of its profits to Communication 4 All, a leading organization dedicated to teaching non-speaking autistic individuals to communicate through typing. EFacts vs. myths

ven in 2026 – after years of legalization and research – cannabis is still surrounded by persistent myths and outdated assumptions.

From misconceptions about its health effects to confusion over who actually uses it, these beliefs continue to shape public opinion and policy. In this article, we’re separating fact from fiction and breaking down some of the most common misunderstandings that still exist surrounding cannabis.

While many states have legalized both medical and recreational cannabis, some states still have yet to. A myth centered around legalizing cannabis is that it increases teen use. However, data from states that have legalized cannabis shows no notable increase in teen usage. A 2024 study published in JAMA Pediatrics analyzed data from high school students and found no link between legalization and increased teen use. In fact, the findings showed a slight decline in teens using cannabis, alcohol, and e-cigarettes after legalization (JAMA Pediatrics).

“This trend is often attributed to the successful implementation of strict-age verification laws in licensed shops and dispensaries, which are more effective than the unregulated market at keeping products from minors. Furthermore, legalization fosters honest education and open conversations about responsible use between parents and teens. This evidence demonstrates that a regulated, legal market is more effective at protecting youth than the policy of banning cannabis,” (Crescent Canna).

To purchase cannabis from a dispensary in Massachusetts – or any state where it is legalized – individuals must be 21 years of age and older. Therefore, no “teen” is legal-

ly allowed to purchase it in the first place.

Another common myth is that cannabis kills brain cells. Research today indicates that marijuana actually does not directly destroy brain cells in adults, but it can disrupt how the brain communicates and affect cognitive abilities – especially in younger users. Frequent, long-term use, particularly when it begins before age 16, has been linked to lasting impacts on memory, attention, and even brain development (Harvard Health Publishing).

When it comes to cannabis consumption, a misconception is that all cannabis products will create an intoxicating high. However, the truth is that there are some nonintoxicating products like CBD and other cannabinoids. According to Crescent Canna, “the marijuana plant contains more than 100 different cannabinoids. While some cannabinoids, like Delta-8 THC, produce intoxicating effects, other compounds, most notably CBD, are nonintoxicating,” (Crescent Canna).

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is non-psychoactive and does not produce a high. Its purpose is to relieve pain, anxiety, inflammation, insomnia, and more (Harvard Health Publishing).

“The cannabis market supports this, offering an array of products, such as CBD gummies, containing concentrations ranging from full-spectrum (containing trace amounts of THC) to broad-spectrum and isolate options that are completely THCfree,” (Crescent Canna). Essentially, consumers can purchase a specific cannabinoid based on their desired effects, and if they are looking for some relief without the high, they can achieve that.

One final myth is that people often be-

lieve that the higher the amount of THC, the better. However, the effects of cannabis result from the combined interaction of all its compounds, rather than being driven by THC alone. Instead, it is driven by the “synergistic interactions of dozens of cannabinoids (like CBD and CBG) and aromatic terpenes,” (Crescent Canna).

The article went on to say, “This crucial point confirms that a complete view of cannabis’ chemical profile is far more important than the amount of THC. Not to mention, while for some people higher THC amounts may result in a better experience, for others, it may result in an overwhelming experience, with effects that are far too strong,” (Crescent Canna).

Everyone experiences cannabis differently, as its effects can vary widely depending on a person’s desired outcome, tolerance level, and more. Factors like frequency of use, potency, and individual sensitivity play a role, making cannabis a highly personalized experience rather than a one-size-fits-all substance.

When it comes to understanding cannabis, separating fact from fiction is key. With so much information – and misinformation – circulating, taking the time to research credible sources can help clear up common myths and provide a more accurate picture.

By staying informed, individuals can make smarter, safer decisions and move beyond outdated assumptions to better understand how cannabis actually works.
