A Call for Better Care of Crescent Park Beach Dear Mayor Roberto da Silva and the East Providence Parks & Recreation Department, I am writing as a concerned East Providence resident regarding the condition of Crescent Park Beach. I have lived on the bay and have enjoyed walking and spending time at Crescent Park Beach for the past four years. This is now my fifth summer, and I have become increasingly concerned about the lack of maintenance and monitoring at the beach. Too often I find trash left behind, broken glass in the sand, abandoned chairs and other items, and evidence of fires that have been built on the beach. These conditions are not only unsightly but also dangerous to children, families, pets, and the wildlife that call this area home. Crescent Park Beach is one of East Providence’s most beautiful natural resources. It deserves better care and protection. I respectfully ask that the city consider increasing regular cleanup efforts, improving monitoring and enforcement, and taking additional steps to discourage littering and unauthorized fires.

Keeping the beach clean and safe benefits everyone who enjoys this special place and helps preserve it for future generations. Thank you for your time, your service to our community, and your consideration of this request. I appreciate all that you and the Parks & Recreation Department do for our city and hope this concern can be addressed. Respectfully, Charmane DiNardi East Providence Resident

Beauchaine, Luiz, Forand Drop Out of School Committee Races

Ward four School Committee incumbent member Jessica Beauchaine has withdrawn her bid to be re-elected to a seventh consecutive two-year term. The withdrawal comes after a controversary with garnering the necessary signatures to be placed on the ballot. Ward candidates for School Committee need to get 50 valid signatures from registered voters. Beauchaine submitted 92 signatures but could not provide proof that they were presented in her presence. The controversary began after a Beauchaine Facebook post invited residents to sign her papers which she would leave on her porch at home. She was not present to observe the signings. After a complaint was filed and a hearing held before the East Providence Board of Canvassing, Beauchaine issued a social media statement: “After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming East Providence School Committee election. Although I was successful in the recent hearing regarding my candidacy, I believe this is the right decision for me at this time. For the past 12 consecutive years, it has been an incredible honor to serve the residents of East Providence. Looking back, I am proud of all that we have accomplished together. I have always led with one goal in mind—doing what is best for our students…” Beauchaine’s reference to being successful in the canvassing hearing was due to the board’s 2-1 vote not to invalidate all of her signatures. The board’s decision was along political party lines. Candidate Chrissy Rossi stated that this was not a political matter but it’s about fair and free elections. Rossi will soon serve on the School Committee as the only certified candidate on the ballot for the November election. Rossi has previously served on both the School Committee and City Council. “Serving East Providence has never been about politics for me—it has always been about our children. I leave this campaign with immense pride in what we have accomplished together and confidence in the bright future of our schools. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving this incredible community,” wrote Beauchaine. Current School Committee Chairman David Luiz and former Superintendent of Schools Sandra Forand have pulled out of contention. Luiz had announced intentions to run for the Ward 3 city council seat and changed his mind to run for the at-large school committee seat, before dropping out of contention for both. Luiz’ decision leaves Anthony Ferreira as unopposed in his current at-large school committee seat. Former Superintendent Forand changed her mind and will not pursue a school committee seat in Ward 3. Also, David O’Connell has withdrawn his intention to run for the Ward 3 school committee seat. The following candidates for local and state office have been certified for the upcoming elections. Candidates needed 50, 100 or in some at-large cases, 200 valid signatures of East Providence voters. The primary for races with more than two candidates is on September 9th and the general election is November 3, 2026. Here are the certified candidates for office:

Mail Ballot Question Addressed

After a question of why East Providence seemed to have very little mail ballots recorded in the canvassing office, Mayor Bob DaSilva replied in a social media post. “As of (July 21st) all mail-in ballots applied for both online and in person have been processed. According to the East Providence canvassing team at this time there have been 5 in person applications for the primary and 6 for the general election processed. Additionally, 37 online applications have been processed for the primary and 84 for the general election in November. The deadline in which all ballots must be processed is by August 19th and all mail-in ballots by state law must be processed within 7 days of receipt by the Board of Canvassers. Additionally, these ballots are not sent out to residents who have requested them until August 14th.” “I have been told that the Elections Division of the Secretary of State has reached out directly to East Providence Canvassing Administrator Leslie Shattuck-Moore in regard to these concerns and advised that moving forward these ballots must be processed as they are received.” “Elections are separate from the day-to-day operations of the city, and the administration has NO role in their oversight. Elections are NOT overseen by the Mayor’s Office. The running and administration of elections has nothing to do with this office. The oversight for Canvassing is by a bipartisan Board of Canvassers.”

Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Tax Stabilization

City administration issued a press release regarding an effort to enhance the development of ADU’s for city residents. The City of East Providence announced that on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the East Providence City Council passed legislation on an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) tax stabilization that will encourage the development of alternative housing opportunities throughout East Providence. “Affordable housing continues to be a top priority of this administration, and I am grateful to have so many partners in local government who share a vision in creating innovative ways to make housing more obtainable,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “This new Accessary Dwelling Unit Tax Stabilization will build on that momentum, ensuring that those who want to call East Providence home, or those that already do are afforded the opportunity to do so,” DaSilva added. This new stabilization measure will allow residents the opportunity to build an ADU and receive a five-year period of tax relief from the additional value that the ADU would add to their home’s assessment, starting at 100% exemption year one and scaling down 20% each year. “ADUs show that some of our most impactful housing solutions don’t have to be the biggest ones,” Secretary of Housing Deborah Goddard said. “They create opportunities for young adults, aging parents, caregivers, and homeowners while preserving the character of existing neighborhoods. That’s why Housing 2030 includes a goal of permitting 525 new continued on next page...

ADUs by the end of 2030. East Providence’s innovative ADU tax stabilization program is an outstanding example of local leadership removing barriers and making it easier for homeowners to create more housing. Coupled with initiatives like our recently launched +1 RI ADU Design Competition, we’re partnering with municipalities to make ADUs more accessible, affordable, and achievable—and to help Rhode Island reach its Housing 2030 goals.” Across the United States, rising housing costs are forcing many young professionals to remain in their family homes longer.

East Providence is continuing to lead the way, recently passing ordinances to make ADU’s available on lots that are at least 5,000 square feet, rather than the state’s baseline requirement of 20,000 and creating a 5-year relief for additional assessments from ADU construction. “We want to maintain Townies living in East Providence,” said bill sponsor and council vice president Frank Rego. “This is a way of helping with the housing crisis in the city and the state, without having to build on land that we want to keep green throughout the city,” Rego added. For many older adults, ADU’s provide an opportunity to downsize without leaving the communities they have called home for decades, offering seniors a more manageable and affordable living option while allowing them to remain close to the ones they love. “Aging in community – where 87% of Rhode Islanders 45 and older have told AARP Rhode Island they wish to be – is possible if homes can be modified to accommodate changing needs,” Catherine Taylor, AARP Rhode Island State Director said . “Our cities and towns must have housing options that are suitable for differing incomes, ages and life stages. Accessory Dwelling Units are a fast and flexible way to accomplish this critical Age-Friendly goal. I’m thrilled that the City of East Providence is offering this powerful incentive to build ADUs, which will help so many families and caregivers in this community.”

Like many Catholic communities across Rhode Island, East Providence's parishes have adapted to changing membership by sharing resources while maintaining their local church communities. In recent years, Saint Brendan and Saint Martha's have both experienced declining participation, prompting the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence to evaluate the long-term sustainability of the two parishes. As discussions progressed, rumors circulated that one of the churches might eventually close. Following meetings with parishioners, the Diocese instead chose a collaborative approach that allows both churches to remain open while operating under shared leadership. In May 2026, parishioners were informed that Reverend Scott Carpenter, pastor of Saint Brendan, would become pastor of both parishes. The churches now share pastoral leadership, faith formation programs, fundraising efforts, and a common website, while continuing many of their individual ministries and traditions. The partnership has already produced positive results. One example is the combined Saint Brendan–Saint Martha Catholic Athletic League basketball program, which recently won a state championship and finished as New England runner-up. Parishioners from both communities continue to worship in their respective churches while working together in a growing number of ministries and activities. As one longtime member summed up the transition, "So far, so good."

How To Get $50K MORE For Your House

…without wasting money on renovations that don’t pay off Dear Homeowner, If you’re worried about: • Wasting $30–$50K on a kitchen… when simple hardware, lighting, and a backsplash would’ve delivered the same result • Spending thousands updating your exterior… when the right garage door would’ve transformed your curb appeal • Installing brand-new appliances… when buyers care more about how the space feels • Upgrading everything “just in case”… when only a few changes ever mattered

I SEE THIS EVERY DAY Homeowners thinking they need to remodel kitchens, replace flooring, or redo entire spaces before selling. But in almost every case — it’s paint, lighting, hardware, and a few key touch-ups that buyers will actually pay for. Instead of spending $30–$50K… they spend a tiny fraction of that — FOR THE SAME RESULT AT CLOSING.

A Quick Word About Me Beyond selling over 100 homes, I’m also a builder and developer. That means I understand both sides — what things cost, and what buyers actually pay for. Within minutes I can show you the small, strategic upgrades that will have the exact same impact as major upgrades — for a fraction of the cost.

Hope & Faith Drive’s 11th Annual Wagon Walk

The 11th annual Hope & Faith Drive’s ‘Wagon Walk’ took place last month. The beloved local charity was started by Carl Sweeny Jr., a retired school maintenance worker, who along with his family and an army of supporters, raises money every year for local families in need. Hope & Faith Drive, LLC was founded in 2011 with the mission of providing food to those in need. What started as a personal effort to teach a life lesson to Carl Sweeney’s granddaughter has grown into a community-driven initiative. Through the support of local schools, businesses, and programs, the organization has been able to consistently feed over 20 families each month and countless individuals in the community. Another local group, ‘EastProv Hospitality’ has helped to promote the activities of Hope & Faith as well as highlighting many other activities within East Providence. A website proclaims, “… your social media source for “What’s Going On” in East Providence and surrounding communities. EastProvHospitality.com features an ongoing Events Calendar with entertainment, Hospitality and Community happenings, Spotlight Blogs featuring local businesses, people and topics of interest, free yard sale listings and much more. Our goal is to support the East Providence business community by bringing attention to all it has to offer for residents and visitors alike! Along the route, the campers proudly carried colorful signs promoting kindness, compassion, and community spirit - values that have become the foundation of Hope & Faith Drive’s mission. Their excitement and enthusiasm were contagious as families, neighbors, and passing motorists cheered them on. Over $400K on Shelter Renovations

The City held a grand opening of the newly renovated animal control shelter late last month. Shelter officials were joined by members of the community, state, and local leaders to cut the ribbon on over $400,000 in renovations to enhance the care, comfort, and safety of animals, while creating a more welcoming environment for residents looking to adopt their ‘furever’ friends. “Today marks another exciting example of how the City of East Providence continues to move forward as the best place to live, learn, work and play,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “This investment transforms our animal shelter into a safer and more welcoming facility for the animals in our care, our dedicated staff and for the families looking to adopt a new companion.” The $476,746 in renovations were funded through general and capital funds as well as allocated funding from the American Rescue Plan Act funds (ARPA). EP Ranked 3rd Safest City in Rhode Island by Safewise.com Each year, SafeWise, Inc experts dig into data to see which cities report the fewest crimes in every state. ence below-average levels of gun violence, violent crime, package theft, and property crime in the nation. Rhode Islanders also worry about these issues less than the average American, yet only 50% say they feel safe calling The Ocean State home. The State of Safety in America is SafeWise’s annual, nationally representative study tracking how Americans perceive, experience, and respond to safety risks over time. The findings in this report serve as the foundation for SafeWise’s rankings, special reports, and ongoing safety analyses throughout the year. For the second year in a row, cybercrimes topped the list of crime concerns, especially for older adults, who reported increased concern and increased experiences with cybercrime last year. Violent crimes and gun violence are the second-highest concerns, with younger adults (below 55) and women reporting the most concern. East Providence was listed as the third safest city in Rhode Island, with just Bristol and Cumberland ranked above EP. • SafeWise: Population of EP 47,555 • Gun Violent Crime Rate 2026, 2025, 2024 - 0.7, 0.8, 0.6. • Property Crime Rate 2026, 2025, 2024 - 6.9, 9.1, 8.7. For the purposes of this report, the terms “dangerous” and “safest” refer explicitly to crime rates as calculated from FBI crime data—no other characterization of any community is implied or intended. 18 cities met the criteria for ranking this year. Bristol is the safest city in Rhode Island for the seventh consecutive year. The property crime rates in Bristol and North Providence decreased for the second year in a row. East Providence, Westerly, West Warwick, and Cranston saw year-over-year decreases in both property crime and violent crime. 1 murder was reported in Rhode Island’s 10 safest cities. It happened in Cranston. All of Rhode Island’s safest cities reported 1 or more rapes. No robberies were reported in Bristol, Cumberland, North Kingstown, Westerly, and Coventry.

Council President Lauds World Cup Impact on Area

City Council President Bob Rodericks made good on a pledge to wear a Scottish kilt to the July 7th council meeting. The gesture Matt Blais, Owner was made according to Rodericks, because of the “positive impact received by the community during the recent soccer World Cup games.” With Boston hosting several games in nearby Foxboro, many tourists stayed in the area. “I met several of the “Tartan Army” visitors during a Mayor’s coffee hour in Riverside. They were staying in the area and stopped in on their way to Boston for Scotland’s World Cup match. It was heartwarming to see their spirit and pride, and I was amazed that they donated close to $100,000 to area charities, including $10,000 to Hasbro Children’s hospital,” Rodericks said. “The Tartan Army also participated in the ‘Good Night Lights’ salute to Hasbro, started by East ProviHeating and cooling systems from leading brands dence’s Steve Brosnihan. “Although I hoped the USA team did well, I had to appreciate * the great spirit by visitors here from other nations. As a quick fan of the Scottish team and with a family member from Scotland, I Call today! 800.645.4328 said I would wear a Kilt to our meeting (July 7th). It wasn’t a good look, I know, but I kept petro.com my word!” chuckled Rodericks.

Rhode Island Foundation Offers $30,000 Grants to Local Composers

MacColl Johnson Fellowships will give three Rhode Island composers the means to advance their craft and boost the state’s cultural life. Local composers who dream of having the resources to push their work to the next level have until Aug. 10 to apply for $30,000 fellowships from the Rhode Island Foundation. The grants are considered to be among the largest no-strings-attached awards available to composers in the United States. The Foundation will award grants to three emerging or midcareer composers through its Robert and Margaret MacColl Johnson Fellowship Fund. The awards are intended to free them to concentrate time on the creative process, to focus on personal or professional development, to expand their body of work and to explore new directions. “By offering the financial support these composers need in order to hone their craft we are investing in them, and in growing a sector that makes our state such a wonderful place to live,” said David N. Cicilline, president and CEO. “This assistance demonstrates the importance we put on investing in Rhode Island’s cultural life.” Applicants must have been residents of Rhode Island for at least 12 months prior to the Aug. 10 deadline. High school students, college and graduate students who are enrolled in a degree-granting program and composers who have advanced levels of career achievement are not eligible. Applicants will be judged on the quality of their work samples, their artistic development and their creative contribution to the arts, as well as the potential of the fellowship to advance their career. Submissions may be of any genre of original musical composition, including chamber, choral, contemporary, electronic, experimental, jazz, opera, musical theater, symphonic and world music, among others. Although the fellowships are unrestricted, recipients are expected to devote concentrated time to their art and to engage in activities that further their artistic growth. Examples include creating new work, training in technologies or techniques, purchasing equipment, travel, research and developing artistic endeavors. The recipients will be selected by a panel of out-of-state jurors who are industry professionals managed by the Artist Communities Alliance. A New Voice for District 65 Dr. Cameron St. Germain

Democratic Candidate for Rhode Island State Representative, District 65

Paid for by the friends of Anna Sousa

Like so many Rhode Islanders, my story begins with family. Growing up, my parents taught me two lessons that continue to guide my life every day: be a leader, not a follower, and prioritize education. More importantly, they lived those values. My father earned his law degree while balancing work and family responsibilities. My mother worked her way from Certified Nursing Assistant to Registered Nurse, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and ultimately physician. Their perseverance taught me that success is built through hard work, service, and a commitment to improving the lives of others. Most importantly, they instilled in me a responsibility to leave our community better than we found it. That belief has guided every step of my journey. I studied public health to better understand how policy affects people’s lives. During college, I interned on Capitol Hill for former Congressman Jim Langevin, where I witnessed firsthand how thoughtful public service can strengthen communities. I later served as a Research Associate at the Hunter College New York City Food Policy Center, studying food access and public health. Those experiences taught me that effective policy begins by listening to the people it serves. After participating in a Habitat for Humanity mission trip, I found my calling in education through Teach For America. That decision took me to Phoenix, Arizona, where I became an elementary school

teacher. Today, I proudly serve as an instructional coach in Central Falls, partnering with educators to strengthen instruction and improve outcomes for students. People often ask why I’m running for the Rhode Island House of Representatives. The answer is simple. Since launching this campaign, I have knocked on hundreds of doors and spoken with neighbors across District 65. One thing has become abundantly clear: people are struggling. Families are feeling the pressure of rising costs, seniors are worried about making ends meet, and many Rhode Islanders are wondering how they can continue building a future here. People also want a representative who is accessible, who listens, and who shows up. That is exactly the kind of representative I intend to be. As an educator, I have learned that leadership begins with listening. Schools are among the most complex public institutions in our communities. Every day, educators solve problems, build relationships, and unite people with different perspectives. As a former teacher, instructional coach, and aspiring principal, I help others succeed together. Those are the same skills effective public service requires. Passing meaningful legislation is about understanding different perspectives, building consensus, and finding practical solutions that improve people’s lives. My career has prepared me to navigate complex systems while keeping the people I serve at the center of every decision.

I am running because I believe District 65 deserves a new voice focused on affordability, opportunity, and accountable government. That means making Rhode Island more affordable, strengthening public schools, expanding workforce pathways, supporting local businesses, attracting good-paying jobs, protecting our environment, and demanding accountable government. Most importantly, it means leading by listening. I do not believe the best ideas belong to one group or one individual. They come from neighbors sharing their experiences, finding common ground, and working together to solve problems. If elected, I will remain accessible and engaged because representation does not end on Election Day. I promise the following: I will work every day to earn your trust. I will be accessible. I will be transparent. I will listen before I lead. And I will always remember that public service is exactly that: service. The opportunities I have today exist because people believed in me. Now I want to dedicate my life to making sure every person in District 65 has someone who believes in them, too. Together, we can build a community where every child can succeed, every family can thrive, every senior can age with dignity, and every resident knows they have a representative who listens first and leads with integrity. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I hope to earn your trust, your support, and your vote because I believe that together we can bring A New Voice to District 65. A Letter to the Community from Jonathan Jacobs City Council Candidate in Ward 1

Dear Neighbor, My name is Jonathan Jacobs, and I am running for East Providence City Council in Ward 1. I grew up in Rumford, in the same neighborhoods I now hope to represent. When my wife and I were ready to buy a home to raise our two children, we purchased less than half-a-mile from where I was raised, and where my parents still live. I love this community. I was born here by chance, but I settled here by choice. Here’s a little bit about me: • Career in public service, with more than 16 years at the RI DLT • Union Executive Board Member and Political Director for RIESA, Local 401, SEIU • Member of the East Providence Zoning Board • Member of East Providence Democratic City Committee • Coach for East Providence Youth Soccer Association • 2014 New Leaders Council Fellow • Endorsed by SEIU Rhode Island State Council • Endorsed by RI Working Families Party

So, why am I running for City Council?

I’m running because I see the work that’s been accomplished, and I see the work that remains to be done. And I believe I bring an energetic, fresh perspective, better suited to navigate the journey to the next level for working families in East Providence. I’m running because I believe I have the curiosity, the compassion, and the integrity to help guide our neighborhoods into an era of greater resilience and greater opportunity. I’m running because I’m called to give back to this community that has provided my family and me with so much, and I am a person who believes that making a difference for others is a more worthwhile endeavor than making a fortune for myself. Finally, I’m running because I believe in the people of this city. We are the city’s most valuable resource. And the City Council seat I’m running for doesn’t belong to any one person. It belongs to all of us. As a member of the City Council, I will be accountable, accessible, and ready to serve you. Sincerely, Jonathan Jacobs

Grant Wosencroft for Rhode Island House District 65

Grant Wosencroft announced his candidacy for Rhode Island House District 65. Grant is a lifelong Rhode Islander and Townie. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Roger Williams University in three years with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in history. Grant is a man who leads by example and shows up for his community, his friends, and his family. Grant has worked at every level of government. As a product of the public schools, Grant advocated for and sat on the committee to help oversee the construction of the new East Providence High School. He worked for the Rhode Island House of Representatives as a legislative page and research intern for the Vice Chairwoman of the Housing and Municipal Affairs Committee, where he assisted her as she worked to address Rhode Island’s housing crisis. In 2023, Grant helped to administer the Congressional District One Special Election as a fellow with the Elections Division under the Office of the Rhode Island Secretary of State. He also spent time in Washington, D.C., as a part of the Office of the White House Liaison Internship Program at the United States Department of Commerce. In this role, Grant supported front office operations for the Secretary of Commerce and assisted the leadership team implementing President Biden’s Indo Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) to rebuild America’s economic relationships in the region.

August 2026 The Reporter Grant is running because he believes politics is broken. He has witnessed America divided by ideological extremes while the goalposts for living comfortably with a great job are moving further away and becoming more difficult for everyday people. From his observation, Grant believes a new generation of leadership is needed that has the time to listen to constituents, the ability to bring new ideas to the table, and the willpower to deliver results. When elected, Grant will serve as a bridge to heal divisions in our state and our country because he truly believes that we are better together. Grant hopes to earn your vote on September 9 and looks forward to travelling the district to meet constituents. You can learn more and contact him at grantwosencroft.com.

Open Letter to East Providence Voters

Dear Constituents: I respectfully ask for your consideration as I hope to continue serving as your Councilman-at-Large on our City Council. My election is in November as I do not have a September primary. As your citywide councilman, I have done my best to represent you with honesty and fairness. As Council President my leadership style has been to craft a reasonable consensus when different opinions exist. I judge each issue in the best interest of the city. Leadership matters! While not perfect, I believe that East Providence provides programming for the quality of life our community deserves. Here are some achievements I am proud to have supported with help from others: • Strong leadership during City Council meetings • Professional discussions with city administration & departments • Supported over $30 million in infrastructure improvements from grants

17

• Constructed needed emergency water pipeline connection at zero cost to EP • Reasonable approach to necessary housing needs • Refurbished most city parks and playgrounds at little to minimal local cost • Beautified Willett Pond, Kent Heights Park, Pierce Stadium & much more • Provided necessary vehicles & equipment for police & fire departments • Fully funded school department budgets every year • Approved $2.7M of unused high school bond exclusively for school maintenance • Approved $16M Community/Recreation center at no cost to budget. All grants • Regularly attended new EPHS and Martin MS building committee meetings • Responsible budget management resulting in strong financial status for city • New high school, new middle school, many municipal improvements – all with a minimal 2.1% tax increase during a difficult state & national economy • Common sense voting • Many more citywide issues. East Providence Police Union Endorses Frank Rego for Ward 1 City Council

East Providence, RI – Councilman Frank Rego, candidate for re-election to the Ward 1 seat on the East Providence City Council, has been endorsed by IBPO Local 569, the union representing the officers of the East Providence Police Department. In a public statement, the union pointed to Rego’s record on public safety and his role in the recent renovations at the city’s police headquarters, thanking him for “leading the charge in those efforts.” The union described Rego as “a true supporter of the East Providence Police Department” and noted that he has made public safety for his constituents one of his top priorities. The statement also credited the Councilman for supporting efforts to ensure the city’s police and fire personnel are properly taken care of, an approach the union said helps guarantee that East Providence and Ward 1 receive strong public safety services. “I’m deeply honored to have the support of the men and women of IBPO Local 569,” said Councilman Rego. “The officers who protect our neighborhoods see this work up close, and their trust means a great deal to me. Keeping our community safe, and making sure those who serve it are supported, has always been one of my highest priorities, and it will remain so.” The endorsement underscores a central theme of Rego’s reelection campaign: a proven record on public safety that includes supporting the modernization of the East Providence Police Station and expanding rescue coverage at Fire Station #3, where he continues to push for full 24-hour service. Councilman Rego is seeking the continued support of Ward 1 residents ahead of the Non-Partisan Primary on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. To learn more, visit RegoWard1.com. Political Advertisement

From the STATE HOUSE Legislation to Assist Victims of Stalking with Relocation and Home Security Expenses Ceremonially Signed into Law

State House — Legislation from Sen. Matthew L. LaMountain and Rep. Jenni A. Furtado allowing stalking victims to recover relocation or home modification expenses from the existing Crime Victim Compensation Program was ceremonially signed into law today. Said Representative Furtado (D-Dist. 64, East Providence, Pawtucket), “Every year, hundreds of crime victims in Rhode Island are supported by the Crime Victim Compensation Program, but until now, victims of stalking were not among them. Providing resources for stalking intervention — such as relocation, new locks and increased home security — saves lives. With this bill, we are helping to ensure that financial means do not dictate a victim’s ability to feel secure from their stalker in their own home.” The Crime Victim Compensation Program provides reimbursement to Rhode Islanders for expenses related to violent crime, including medical, dental and counseling expenses; relocation expenses; and funeral costs, among others. Currently victims of stalking do not qualify for the program. This bill (2026-S 3263, 2026H 7547), introduced at the request of General Treasurer James A. Diossa, makes victims of stalking eligible specifically for emergency compensation for relocation or reasonable home security modifications to their home. “The passing of this legislation creates a vital lifeline for victims of stalking that so often find themselves trapped in dangerous living situations,” said Treasurer Diossa. “Survivors should never have to choose between their safety and their financial stability and this legislation will allow them to have access to resources that can help them make necessary safety improvements. We are grateful to Senator LaMountain and Representative Furtado and our partners in the General Assembly for recognizing this need and advancing this important measure.”

The legislation (2026-S 3135, 2026-H 8094) would restore law enforcement discretion, allowing officers to issue a verbal warning when appropriate or pursue misdemeanor or felony charges in more egregious cases where a child is left unattended in a motor vehicle “As a former prosecutor, I have witnessed some truly tragic scenes where children were left unattended in a vehicle. In the most extreme circumstances when a child is injured or worse, charges are always warranted. But there are cases where a warning from law enforcement should suffice with the hope that future emergencies will be prevented,” said Representative Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence).

Rep. Dawson’s Bill that Protects Service Members During Foreclosure Proceedings Signed into Law

State House – Legislation sponsored by Rep. Matthew S. Dawson that would help protect service members involved in foreclosure proceedings has been signed into law. “With daily costs continuing to increase, keeping a roof over one’s head is a rising concern, and members of the military are not immune to this worry. Our brave and dedicated service members who protect and ensure our way of life should be given special consideration when they are at risk of losing their homes to foreclosure. This bill will help our service members by giving them more time to navigate the foreclosure process, while also hopefully allowing them to save their homes from foreclosure,” said Representative Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence). The bill (2026-H 7654aa) would allow foreclosure notices to be sent by United States Postal Service First Class Mail and/or an overnight delivery service, instead of by United States Postal Service certified mail with a return receipt request.

Raptakis, Dawson Bill that Protects Children from Being Left Alone in Vehicles Signed into Law

State House – Legislation sponsored by Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis and Rep. Matthew S. Dawson that will protect minors left unattended in cars has been signed into law. Both Senator Raptakis and Representative Dawson worked with Attorney General Peter Neronha’s office to craft the legislation.

State House — Legislation sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Boylan and Sen. Lori Urso to help homebound patients access routine foot care at home was ceremonially signed into law today. “Most Rhode Islanders recognize the shortage of medical providers when they have trouble finding a primary care provider or have to wait months to see a specialist. But they may not recognize that for some residents, essential services are not available here in Rhode Island home settings. Home foot care services are one of these, leaving many older patients without safe options. It’s especially dangerous for those with diabetes, who are prone to infections and other foot problems that can lead to serious complications and even death,” said Representative Boylan (D-Dist. 66, Barrington, East Providence). The legislation (2026-H 7029A, 2026-S 2116A) allows nurses to provide routine foot care in patients’ homes, provided they get proper training and demonstrate clinical competency. The bill addresses a critical unmet need for basic, routine and preventative foot care in the home. Many elderly or disabled patients need medical assistance for routine foot care, including noninvasive maintenance of toenails, common corns and calluses. Under the bill, nurses will need to have knowledge of and demonstrate clinical competency in the structure and function of feet and nails, common foot pathology and related nursing interventions, use of appropriate instruments and other related matters. It also requires that two of their 10 hours of continuing education per certification period be focused on foot care.

August 2026 The Reporter “Access to in-home foot care is important for older adults who face mobility, vision, or chronic health challenges. Without regular care, minor foot issues can progress into infections, pain or mobility problems that increase fall risk and lead to more serious medical needs. Home-based foot care supports prevention, early identification of concerns and the ability of older adults to age in place,” said Catherine Taylor, AARP Rhode Island state director. The bill provides relief not only to patients, but to their family and caregivers, many of whom are forced to choose between foregoing necessary treatment or taking the risk of trying to provide foot care themselves.

Bill Signed Creating License Plate To Raise Funds For Colon Cancer Awareness In Honor Of Late Senate Majority Whip Maryellen Goodwin

State House – Legislation sponsored by Sen. Pamela J. Lauria and Rep. Susan R. Donovan was ceremonially signed into law today to create a special license plate that will support colon cancer awareness efforts in honor of the late Senate Majority Whip Maryellen Goodwin. The legislation (2026-S 2413, 2026-H 7376Aaa) creates the “Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island – Maryellen Goodwin” license plate in honor of Whip Goodwin, who represented the Smith Hill neighborhood in Providence in the Senate from 1986 until her passing in 2023 following a battle with colon cancer. A portion of the proceeds from the specialty plate will go to the Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island to support its efforts to raise awareness of colon cancer. “We are proud to honor Maryellen in this way for all her efforts,” said Senator Lauria (D-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence). “Long before her own diagnosis, she worked diligently on efforts to ensure that Rhode Islanders had affordable access to necessary cancer screenings, prevention and treatment. She would be humbled to know that in her name, that effort will continue in Rhode Island.” Said Representative Donovan (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth), who chairs the House Health and Human Services Committee, “Early and regular screening is absolutely critical for catching colon cancer early, particularly since it has been becoming more common among younger people. Money raised through the sale of this plate will help spread that message and save lives – and that is truly the best tribute to Maryellen’s memory.” Representative Donovan said she also introduced the legislation in memory of Meredith Potthast, who passed away from colon cancer at the age of 33 in 2023 after a five-year battle. Meredith

State House – Legislation sponsored by Sen. Lammis J. Vargas and Rep. Matthew S. Dawson was ceremonially signed into law today, protecting public safety by requiring at least two crew members on every freight train operated in Rhode Island. “This is common-sense public safety legislation. Just like commercial airliners are required to have two licensed pilots on every plane, freight trains, which can consist of dozens or even hundreds of cars carrying heavy and sometimes hazardous loads, shouldn’t be entirely reliant on a single individual,” said Representative Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence). The legislation (2026-H 7608, 2026-S 2913), which was signed by Gov. Dan McKee today at a ceremony held at the Pawtucket/ Central Falls Transit Center, was supported by the AFL-CIO and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. In testimony supporting the bill, Daniel M. Cadogan, chairman of the Brotherhood’s New England Legislative Board, said freight trains running through Rhode Island typically are 5,000 to 11,000 feet long, as long as 600 full-size SUVs by length, and equivalent to 3,300 SUVs by weight. He also pointed to a 2013 derailment of a freight train carrying crude oil in Quebec, which burned for two days and killed 47 people. It had rolled downhill at high speed and derailed on a curve after being left standing by its single crew member. The bill takes effect Oct. 1. Rhode Island now becomes the 13th state with laws requiring a minimum crew of two on freight trains.

Rep. Matthew S. Dawson and Sen. Lammis J. Vargas hold their bills following today’s signing.

SPORTS REVIEW

By Bob Rodericks

ATC Townies Squad Captures Hometown ‘26 Baseball Tournament in NY

ATC Townies 13u capped off a 5-0 weekend at the Hometown ‘26 Baseball Tournament presented by 3&2 Baseball in Buffalo, NY in late July. The team had solid pitching, defense, and great base running during pool play to clinch the 2nd seed with a 3-0 record. They missed out on the #1 seed by 2 extra runs given up. But the team broke out the bats during bracket play, outscoring opponents 27-5 in the final 2 games to bring home the championship. The team is managed by Tom Wall, with assistant coaches John Quinn, Adam Mancini, and Tom Pora.

Riverside Little League

RLL/CLL take Minors 10U District Title

“Spring 2026 saw Riverside Little League’s largest registration over the past years with a 23% increase in kids from last Spring. A Lot of credit is due to the many new volunteers and board members who have dedicated their time to making sure all our players get the best baseball/softball experience,” said league president Justin Coppa in a recent interview. “This Spring saw the Ron Silva Complex come to life with many nights off all 3 fields in use, which greatly benefited our snack shack which besides food and beverages, also includes a lot of new Riverside LL swag for our players and parents to wear. We always encourage everyone to “show their Pride in the Side.” The regular season was a success from Opening Day to Memorial Day and finally ended with our Awards Night. The kids at all levels from T-ball through Jr/Sr enjoyed the lasting memories they made with old friends and new. Those memorable moments continued into the Summer with our 11u and 8u All Stars. These were the first Riverside AS teams in over 3 years and we are extremely proud of them getting us back on the map. We also want to shout out that our combined softball teams with EP Central had a fantastic run in the minors 10u tournament, winning the district championship over Barrington. Our 8u All Stars will take the field

Finally, this Summer, Riverside hosted its first ever wiffle ball league. Kids from all over the East Bay signed up to show their skills in everyone’s favorite backyard game. With 12 teams in two divisions, we will soon crown the summer champions of 10u and 14u.” We’re only just getting started in the 02915. Many new facility improvements are on the docket and we will continue to invest in our kids by offering Fall Ball and Winter Clinics to prepare for the Spring of 2027. In her junior year, Karalekas led the team to an undefeated season and a D-3 state championship. She received the D-3 player of the tear award and was 2nd team All-State and First Team AllDivision. She also scored all seven of the team’s goals in the win. During her high school career, she was All-Academic in each year. She was number 4 in the 2026 graduating class of EPHS and earned an academic scholarship to Wellesley College. Although receiving offers to play in D-1 colleges, Karalekas chose Wellesley for their high academic reputation. (The Reporter thanks Kris Hallene for the update and photos.)

Rumford Little League Reach 10U Semifinals

The Rumford Ron Silva 10U All-Stars made it to the semifinals after a gutsy, 7-6 win over East Providence Central Little League at Kimberly Rock Field in late July. The two teams had a back-and-forth game, with Rumford taking an early 4-2 lead after the first frame. Central battled back with two runs in the top of the second, which was broken up with a run by Rumford in the bottom of the third. That was answered with a Central run in the top of the fourth, and each team scored in the fifth. This brought the teams tied into the final inning, 6-6. Levi Anthony was able to draw a bases loaded walk to advance the winning run across the plate; one of 11 walks that Rumford drew on the evening. Rumford played well moving on but lost out to Portsmouth for the chance to make the finals.

Area EP Youth on NE Bay Sox Tourney Championship

The NE Bay Sox 17U put together another dominant performance at the Firecracker Sports 17u 4th of July Showcase Tournament, finishing a perfect 5-0 and outscoring opponents 52-9 on their way to their second tournament championship of the summer. Kyle Sherman Jr. was named Tournament MVP after an outstanding offensive performance: 5-for-9; 3 Doubles; 1 Triples; 5 Walks; 4 Runs Scored; 7 RBI There were many other notable performances: • C.J. Smith: 7-for-13; 5 Runs Scored; 2 RBI • Karter Perreira: 6-for-13; 3 Doubles; 2 Triples; 1 Home Run; 5 Runs Scored; 7 RBI, 5.0 IP; 2 Hits; 0 Runs; 7 Strikeouts • Jacoby Davidson: 6-for-13; 2 Triples; 2 Walks; 4 Runs Scored; 7 RBI • Cole Arruda and Reid Ulmschneider each logged 5 inning complete game victories with 10 strikeouts. • Aidan Martins and Jack Bouchard were awesome defensively making a number of great plays throughout the tournament.

Townies’ Karalekas Named All-Academic by USA Lacrosse

Alyssa Karalekas of EPHS was recently named All-Academic by USA Lacrosse. According to USA Lacrosse, an All-Academic honoree is a “player who exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field, and represents high standards of academic achievement in the classroom and exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills with good sportsmanship on the field.” Karalekas, a 2026 honors graduate of East Providence High School, has achieved a lot in her four years at EPHS. An all-star soccer player she became proficient in lacrosse, which is a relatively new sport for Townies. Karalekas surpassed all expectations as she scored more goals than anyone in Townie lacrosse history. She scored a four-year total of 173 goals with 66 in her senior year. Karalekas has been recognized as RI Coaches Association as a First Team All-State and All-Academic award recipient. She will attend prestigious Wellesley College and continue playing lacrosse.

14th Annual Townie Baseball Camp a Success

Many area youth enjoyed the recently completed Townie Baseball Camp held at East Providence High School. The camp completed its 14th consecutive year “and keeps growing,” said EPHS head baseball coach Bobby Rodericks. The camp, previously held at Pierce Stadium, now utilizes the turf fields at the high school. “The mission of the camp is to teach skills, proper techniques, and the correct approach to the game, all in a fun-filled atmosphere,”

said Rodericks. Participants received personalized tee shirts and a box lunch every day. The camp focused on hitting, fielding, bunting, base running, other skills, drills, and fun competitions. Contests with prizes and awards were handed out at the end of the last day. Camper fees go to the Friends of Townie Athletica for high school and middle school sports. New for 2026 was a second week in July, just for pitchers and catchers.

One Simple Activity to Boost Your Student’s Learning Skills

The physical and mental benefits of playing music are well recognized, but did you know that there’s a correlation between music study and higher academic performance? Piano study in particular strengthens memory, boosts cognitive function, improves language skills, and activates the same brain functions used in math. Piano playing sharpens fine motor skills, improves hand-eye coordination, improves memory, and increases self esteem. Regular practice makes structural changes to the brain improving cognitive abilities such as attention and executive functioning. Piano lessons like those offered at The Piano Key offer a fun outlet for students seeking escape, stress reduction, and creative expression, all while sharpening their intellect. At The Piano Key, students receive outstanding quality instruction from experienced caring instructors in a comfortable environment. Our team of instructors are motivated by their love of music and the passion to transfer their knowledge and skills to students so their creativity and talent can shine. Your student will play a quality acoustic piano that is tuned regularly for optimum sound. We feature a dedicated performance space with a concert grand piano and offer several recital opportunities each year with varying themes. In October of 2025 we created a “Not so scary Haunted House” with students playing seasonal music in each of our rooms. The proceeds from this event were donated to Rawkstars, a non profit organization that helps children in financial need afford music lessons. We are proud to be founding members of The Royal Conservatory of Music and an adjudication center for The American College of Musicians, National Piano Guild. As a local family owned business since 2009, The Piano Key strives to meet the needs of each student, ensuring they have a rewarding and successful experience. Private piano lessons for ages 1 1/2 and older are offered Monday through Saturday at a variety of convenient times. Our location on Route 44 in Seekonk is easily accessible from Dighton, Rehoboth, Attleboro, Pawtucket, East Providence, Riverside, and Barrington. InStep Dance

InStep Dance Studio is a small dance studio that serves not just the residents of Seekonk, but also the surrounding towns in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, hip-hop, and acro classes are offered to children ages 3 and up. Our small class sizes ensure that students receive individual attention and support that helps build self-confidence in a fun-filled, low stress environment. We take the time to break down instruction, get to know how our students learn best, and help them to discover how to express themselves in an artistic manner. Our goal is to simply share and instill a love and passion for dance in all of our kids while treating everyone like family.

Providence Country Day School

Providence Country Day School (PCD) is an independent, coeducational day school serving students from PreKindergarten through Grade 12. Located just minutes from Providence, PCD offers a challenging academic program within a supportive, studentcentered community where young people are encouraged to pursue their full range of interests and abilities. At PCD, academic rigor is paired with a deep commitment to student well-being. Students are challenged to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage meaningfully with their studies, while learning in an environment designed to support confidence, balance, and long-term success. Small class sizes and strong relationships with faculty ensure that each student is known, supported, and appropriately challenged. The curriculum is designed to provide both depth and flexibility. Students build strong foundations in core academic disciplines while

also exploring interests in the arts, athletics, and leadership. Rather than requiring early specialization, PCD encourages broad participation. Students are able to take advanced courses, perform on stage, compete on athletic teams, and take on leadership roles—all within a schedule and culture that makes this balance possible. This breadth of opportunity is a defining feature of the PCD experience. Students are not limited to a single path or identity; instead, they are encouraged to discover new interests and develop a wide range of skills. Whether a student is an aspiring scientist, artist, athlete, or entrepreneur—or all of the above—PCD provides the structure and support to pursue those interests fully. Equally important is the school’s emphasis on community and belonging. Teachers take the time to understand how each student learns best, offering individualized support that helps students grow both academically and personally. Advising, student support services, and a strong culture of collaboration ensure that students feel connected and supported throughout their time at the school. PCD’s commitment to student well-being extends beyond the classroom. The school prioritizes mental and physical health, recognizing that students do their best work when they feel balanced and supported. This approach creates an environment where students are encouraged to take risks, try new things, and develop resilience—without the excessive pressure that can limit growth and curiosity. Graduates of Providence Country Day leave well prepared for college and beyond. More importantly, they leave with a strong sense of who they are, how they learn, and how they can contribute meaningfully to their communities. For families seeking a school that combines high academic expectations with a supportive, balanced environment, Providence Country Day offers a distinctive and compelling educational experience. providencecountryday.org

Scouting Around... East Providence Girl Scouts Travel to Puerto Rico! After saving their cookie proceeds for a few years, East Providence Girl Scout Troop 117 had an amazing trip to Puerto Rico! The adventures were endless: ziplining, horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling where they saw 4 turtles, waterbikes in the lagoon, paddleboarding, lots of time spent at the pools and the beach (both connected to the hotel), and an the ocean view balcony. They saw lots of cats, lizards, hermit crabs, starfish, and the resident iguanas in the pool/ beach area! The troop even became well versed in ordering Ubers to navigate their adventures! The food was delicious, all the snacks were used, and they went through

multiple bottles of sunscreen! The laughs were plentiful, and the memories endless! The girls are already talking about their next Troop travel destination!

Law that Grants Gold Award Recipients Automatic Admission to Colleges Is Ceremonially Signed

On Wednesday, July 29, Governor Dan McKee signed into law a bill that automatically grants admission to Rhode Island state public institutions of higher education for qualified Gold Award and Eagle Scout recipients! This bill was sponsored by Senator David P. Tikoian and Representative Tina Spears and recognizes Gold Award Girl Scouts’ and Eagle Scouts’ extraordinary achievements in leadership, community service, and personal development. Girl Scouts had the opportunity to participate in multiple steps of the legislative process, lobbying for the bill on the House and Senate floor in May, as well as attending the bill signing at the Rhode Island State House today. The law (2026-S 2432A, 2026-H 7416A) applies to any Rhode Island resident who has earned the Gold Award from the Girl Scouts of the USA or rank of Eagle Scout from Scouting America and meets all minimum application submission requirements of the institution. “Gold Award and Eagle are the highest honors in Girl Scouts and Scouting America, formerly known as Boy Scouts,” said Dana Borrelli-Murray, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England. “These honors have existed for over a century and are earned by fewer than 2% of all Girl Scouts and 6% of all Scouting America members nationwide. Our Highest Award members are among the most motivated, community-focused, and academically prepared students graduating from Rhode Island high schools. This bill codifies into law a commitment to incentivize our state’s best and brightest to stay local. This commitment will also result in more youth completing these thousands of hours of community service for our state—public work that lives on beyond their projects.”

IN MEMORIAM Goodbye to an Icon – Dr. Izzy Ramos By Bob Rodericks

Dr. Isadore Ramos He was one of East Providence’s charter icons. He grew up in a large East Providence Cape Verdean American family, one of six children born to Isadore and Laura (Metts) Ramos. He was also one of Rhode Island’s best athletes. He became a teacher, school administrator and in retirement, an elected official and diplomat. Most of all, he was a consummate mentor and loyal friend to many. He was Dr. Isadore S. “Izzy” Ramos. On July 27, 2026, East Providence and indeed the extended community, lost this iconic personality that so many loved. Dr. Ramos died at the age of 89 after a brief illness. Although he earned a doctorate degree from the University of Connecticut, as well as other advanced degrees, he preferred to be called just “Izzy.” Townies and others called him by many titles; Dr. Ramos, Mr. Ramos, Doc, Pops, Poppy and Izzy. Izzy Ramos attended East Providence public schools and was a 1956 graduate of East Providence High School. While in high school he was a standout three-sport athlete, lettering in football, baseball and wrestling. In his senior year at EPHS, his wrestling team was undefeated. They won the interscholastic and state championship. A co-captain, Ramos was named outstanding wrestler in New England twice. In their last home meet of the season, EP crushed La Salle 40-0 with Ramos scoring 8 pins in 8 matches.

As a baseball co-captain, he was a starting third baseman and was a starting halfback for football. He did it all but never boasted about it in later life. He became known as one of the nation’s best wrestlers and maybe EPHS’ finest grappler. Izzy attended Southern Illinois University on an athletic scholarship where he excelled nationally. Upon returning home to East Providence, he became a teacher. He was the first Black teacher to work at EPHS. He was a physical education teacher, Dean of students, Assistant Principal, Acting Principal and finally an Assistant Superintendent of Schools for East Providence. After a 35-year educational career, he answered the call of many friends and colleagues and entered politics. He was elected to the East Providence School Committee and then the City Council, serving as Mayor. The first person of Cape Verdean heritage in the nation to hold a position as a Mayor. Throughout his lifetime Izzy Ramos was considered by all who knew him as a loyal friend and brave voice who was not afraid to speak his mind. He was a mentor to many and respected by thousands of former students whose lives he touched. He received dozens of awards for meritorious community involvement, including induction into the EPHS Hall of Fame, R.I. Wrestling Hall of Fame, Cape Verdean Museum HOF, to mention just a few. The gymnasium at EPHS is named in his honor. He was a Governor’s appointee to the R.I. Board of Elections and numerous other state and volunteer national commissions. Izzy was a vital member of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center in East Providence and instrumental in the growth of the Cape Verdean Museum of R.I. and was invited often to be an ambassador to the country of Cape Verde. Izzy Ramos was an invaluable asset to his city, state and nation. While facing the ugliness of discrimination at times during his life, he would speak his mind but always rise above and take the high road. Truly a revered Townie icon, he has left a deep legacy for generations to come. Izzy is survived by his children Kevin Ramos, Karen Boyd (Dennis ‘Oil Can’), grandchildren Dennis & Tayla Boyd and great grandchildren Julia & Jolie Boyd; brother, Anthony Ramos and sister Elaine Briggs. He was predeceased by his parents Isadore

and Laura Ramos, a brother Frances, sister Isabelle and a brother John Ramos. East Providence High School Principal, William Black, sent a letter to the high school community: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of a true Townie icon and Hall of Famer, Dr. Isadore “Izzy” Ramos. Dr. Ramos was a towering figure in East Providence, but above all, he was a devoted educator who held a lifelong passion for the students of our city. Over a distinguished 35-year career in education, he guided our school community.” “Though he achieved national honors, served as Mayor, and held a doctorate degree, he always insisted on being called

Wherever a beautiful soul has been there is a trail of beautiful memories. ~ Ronald Reagan simply “Izzy.” His warmth, sharp mind, and boundless energy inspired everyone around him. He believed fiercely in the potential of East Providence youth and spent his entire life uplifting our community, preserving Cape Verdean heritage, and ensuring that our schools were places of pride and belonging. His legacy is permanently etched into the heart of our school most visibly on the EPHS Gymnasium named in his honor, but most importantly in the lives of the thousands of students he mentored over the decades.” “We invite our students, staff, and families to join us in remembering Dr. Ramos and holding his family in our thoughts during this time. May we honor his memory by carrying forward the same kindness, Townie Pride, and commitment to one another that Izzy demonstrated every single day.” – Principal Black. Governor Dan McKee had directed Rhode Island state flags to be flown at half-staff at all state facilities and buildings. The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of interment of former East Providence Mayor Dr. Isadore Ramos. “The passing of Dr. Ramos is a profound loss for Rhode Island,” said Governor Dan McKee. “A true son of East Providence, Dr. Ramos dedicated his life to educating generations of students and

serving the community he loved. Through his kindness, leadership, and commitment to others, he set an example for all of us. He will never be forgotten. Our hearts are with his family, loved ones, and everyone mourning his loss.” The Governor asked Rhode Islanders to lower their state flags as a sign of respect. Bob Rodericks On a personal note: “For me and the entire Rodericks family, we are deeply saddened at the loss of our friend. A cherished friend who became family to us. Uncle Izzy, as my children call him, was there for us in our times of need through the years. He celebrated our happy events and comforted us during sad days. Our love for him runs deep. RIP my brave friend. I thank you and will love you always.”
