City preparing to start long-range planning
Residents concerned about overlay changes

Now that the new city of Brookhaven is up and running, officials are beginning to create a long-range vision for the city’s future. This summer, Brookhaven officials will begin searching for a consultant who will help the city create a comprehensive master plan. The planning process, which includes months of public meetings and discussions, is scheduled to kick off this fall, said Communications Director Megan Matteucci. Many in Brookhaven are eying the potential of a commercial stretch of Buford Highway at the southern end of the city, said
Brookhaven residents told City Council they are worried proposed tweaks to the Brookhaven-Peachtree Overlay zoning district could weaken their vision for the future of their community. During a public hearing at the City Council’s June 11 meeting, residents expressed concerns about proposed amendments to the overlay, a zoning code which calls for more urban, pedestrianfriendly development in the Peachtree Road corridor surrounding the Brookhaven MARTA station.
