“Well it’s Christmas time pretty baby, and the snow is fallin’ down!” Growing up, I listened to Elvis’ Christmas Album nonstop during the holidays. His music was grand and energetic; it made 5-year-old Kate feel connected to something vibrant and nostalgic – an instant rockin’ tradition of tunes I’ll never forget. I didn’t know much about Elvis or the history behind the album when I was kid, but this story, filled with joy and nostalgia, is what we bring to you on our stage tonight.
Kate’s absolutely right. The holidays bring us many things – happy and tender, merry and bright. Those of us who are lucky to gather with our loved ones at the holidays know how special this time of togetherness is, and even though the moments are fleeting, the love and memories shared at this time of year last a lifetime. For me, the holidays are never complete without music. From Frank Sinatra to Nat King Cole, Andy Williams (no relation to me) to Lena Horne, John Denver and the Muppets to Kelly Clarkson, the music and the melodies of the holidays provide the soundtrack to these moments of joy, comfort and hope.
Million Dollar Quartet Christmas is a festive jam session that dials the joy and cheer up to eleven. You’ll be observing the studio where history was made, picking up where Million Dollar Quartet left of – the iconic picture of American music legends crowded around the piano at Sun Studio. In this show, you can expect to hear your favorite holiday hits mixed in with beloved songs by this star-studded roster of rock ‘n’rollers!
Danny and I have been blown away by how many people have fond memories tied to these artists: from Johnny Cash’s prison concerts, to “A Rockabilly Session with Carl Perkins,” to Jerry Lee Lewis getting carried away with the keys on live television. This production expands on these icons with stories pulled from their own published memoirs. Not only will you leave the theatre with exciting stories to tell about the memories and inspirations that motivated this unforgettable quartet, but you’ll be reminded of your own memories of home and cheer shaped by this beloved show here at the Loretto Hilton Center. I have so much love for the holiday season and my new life in St. Louis, and I can’t wait to fully program next year’s 59th season.
Kate and I are especially thrilled to be in collaboration with our co-presenters, STAGES St. Louis. Andrew Kuhlman and Gayle Seay (STAGES Mosbacher Family Executive Producer & Artistic Director) have joined with us to pioneer this first-of-its-kind partnership between our two theatres, celebrating the traditions of St. Louis excellence in storytelling, musical theatre and community. On behalf of the teams at both The Rep and STAGES, we thank you for being here for our 58th season and keeping us a part of your holiday tradition!

In 2023, STAGES St. Louis audiences fell in love when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins stepped onstage at The Ross Family Theatre at The Kirkwood Performing Arts Center in Million Dollar Quartet. Gayle and I were thrilled to provide so many people the opportunity to hear their favorite songs, learn more about the lives of these music industry icons, and quite literally dance in the aisles. It was truly special, and it wasn’t long before we began discussing how to bring the show’s holiday sequel, Million Dollar Quartet Christmas, to St. Louis audiences.
We were confident that the show would have audience members “rockin’ around the Christmas tree” as they took in classic holiday tunes that we all listen to year after year. After all, we can agree that the holiday season is the perfect time for coming together, reliving fond memories, and celebrating. For this special production, we took those elements to heart. What better way to come together and celebrate than by creating a first-of-its-kind co-production for the St. Louis area with our friends at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis?
Danny, Kate, and the entire Rep team have been the perfect partners, and we are so excited to welcome you back — or, for the very first time, to Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, for a holiday jam session that not only reunites this amazing cast and creative team but also shares an even more in-depth look at the voices we’ve all come to know and love.
Over the years, Gayle and I have taken great joy in getting to know our loyal subscribers, ticket buyers, and patrons. We’ve come to call this very dedicated group of people our “STAGES Family.” As it is the holiday season, what’s better than giving a gift to your family and friends? Well, this present is ready to be unwrapped… and it’s time to rock ‘n’ roll!
On behalf of all of us at STAGES St. Louis and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis — happy holidays to all, and to all a good night!

excellence. Whether their stars burned fast and bright, like Elvis Presley’s unforgettable 24-year-career, or lasted longer—Jerry Lee Lewis made music for nearly eight decades—their journeys began not only at the same time, but in the same famed halls of the Sun Records recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee.
Sun Records, founded in February of 1952 by disc jockey and record producer Sam Phillips, was a small, independent recording studio representing a new beginning for Phillips, who had fallen out with his previous partners at Chess Records in Chicago. Phillips had a great love of the rhythm and blues and worked primarily with Black artists like Ike Turner, Howlin’ Wolf, Billy “The Kid” Emerson, and Roscoe Gordon. However, Phillips was determined to bring that distinct sound (mixed with gospel, country, boogie, and swing) to white audiences and sought out musicians who could connect strongly to those listeners. Enter the Million Dollar Quartet: Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash.
Explore the following timeline of key events across the decades that helped to establish Sun Records as the foundation of 20th-century rock and roll:
February 1952: Sam Phillips launches the Sun Record Company in Memphis, Tennessee, at the same location as his Memphis Recording Service, which recorded many local blues artists starting in 1950. Phillips recorded what is considered the first ever rock ‘n’ roll record here, “Rocket 88” by Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats, in 1951.
July 1953: Elvis Presley pays $4 to record his first-ever songs at the Memphis Recording Service, “My Happiness” and “That’s When Your Heartaches Begin.” He would release his first song through Sun Records one year later, an uptempo version of “That’s All Right.”
November 1955: RCA Records purchases Elvis Presley’s recording contract from Sun Records for an unprecedented sum of $35,000. When Presley releases his first self-titled album through RCA the following year, it includes numerous songs that had been recorded during his contract period with Sun Records. His first album includes his breakout #1 hit, “Heartbreak Hotel.”
December 1955: Carl Perkins records his breakout hit, “Blue Suede Shoes,” at Sun Records. It becomes a #2 hit on the Best Sellers chart and a #1 Country chart hit, as well as a #10 hit on the UK chart. The song is later covered by Elvis Presley, John Lennon, and many other artists.
May 1956: Johnny Cash’s breakout hit “I Walk the Line” is released and tops the Billboard Country chart and breaks into the Top 20 on the pop charts.
December 1956: The Million Dollar Quartet impromptu jam session occurs at Sun Studio with Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins.
April 1957: Jerry Lee Lewis’s breakout hit “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On” is released and hits #3 in the US and #8 on the UK charts, launching him to fame. Later that year, Lewis records “Great Balls of Fire,” his biggest hit.
July 1969: The Sun Records catalog is acquired by Shelby Singleton and the label moves to Nashville, Tennessee.

The Rep and STAGES are thankful for the support for this production from THE CARNEY’S KIDS FOUNDATION and JIM & MERRY MOSBACHER
One night in December 1956, rock legends Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley met at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, and had a jam session for the ages. On that night, these brilliant musicians played together for the first and only time. Sam Phillips, the founder of Sun Records, knew that he was witnessing history and and had the forethought to record the session. He dubbed the impromptu supergroup the “Million Dollar Quartet.”
Millions of people worldwide have enjoyed the story of this historic evening, told through the musical Million Dollar Quartet. Now, we are excited to bring you Million Dollar Quartet Christmas. In this show, the night continues as we look further into the lives of Johnny, Jerry Lee, Carl, Elvis (and his girlfriend, Dyanne), and Sam during an important time of change for the artists. Johnny and Carl had just announced their upcoming exodus from Sun for Columbia Records, Elvis was regretting certain career moves since he left Sun, and Jerry Lee was at the very beginning of his career. This show takes us on a musical journey through holiday offerings and some of the artists’ greatest songs.
If you saw last season’s production of Million Dollar Quartet at STAGES St. Louis, you’ll recognize the familiar faces and musical stylings of many of our cast members. They are all incredible actors and musicians (yes, they are actually playing!), and we are delighted to reunite and bring this heartwarming show to St. Louis this holiday season. Through this musical, we can all celebrate this wonderful time of year filled with togetherness, peace, and love.
Thank you to the amazing cast, crew, designers, creative team, and production staff who have worked hard to bring you this seasonal treat! Thanks to everyone at The Rep and STAGES St. Louis who have welcomed us back this year with open arms and hearts to join in this exciting new collaboration between the theaters. We wish you and your families a happy holiday season and a joyous new year. Rock on!

SHOW CALENDAR
The Rep strives to make the arts an integral part of our daily lives by providing learning and engagement programs designed to give patrons of all ages a ticket to the wonder, the fun, and the vital human spirit that composes the world of the arts. Patrons and educators are encouraged to contact the Learning and Community Engagement Department at 314-968-7344 or visit our website at repstl.org/lace for more information about these and other programs.
Camp Rep began as a manifestation of The Rep’s unwavering commitment to lifelong learning and the goal to foster a theatre-loving space for youth year-round. Starting in 2020 as a half-day venture, it swiftly evolved into a full-day camp by its second year. Camp Rep has grown not only in increased attendance, but has also offered a wider array of workshops encompassing acting, dance, music, stage combat, filmmaking, costume and prop design, stage management, and directing. Campers create their own performances and learn about the magic of theatre and technology behind the scenes, culminating in a final showcase for friends and family.
In 2020, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis’s Learning and Community Engagement department began the journey of reimagining programming during a time of great uncertainty and change. Story 2 Stage was launched as a pilot program in the fall of 2021, serving middle and high school students at Grand Center Arts Academy in St. Louis, Missouri. This 10-session residency program unlocks the power of storytelling by mining lived experiences, imaginations, and aspirations. The innovative, world-building curriculum, designed for learners of all ages, leads to the development of youth creating their own fully realized plays.
More than 3,000 intergenerational learners attend Lifelong Learner Matinees at The Rep each season. These matinees are typically designed for 6th grade students and older, but we welcome learners of all ages, encouraging a diverse audience that includes all those who value continuing education through the arts.
Page 2 Stage sends Rep volunteers and staff members into community spaces to facilitate discussions about the creation and curation of a season, from play selection to the moment it comes to life on stage. Community members learn about all the different aspects of theatre and interact with props, set models, lighting fixtures, and more. All participants are encouraged to see a production in The Rep’s current season.
Activate The Rep as a resource! We offer storytelling, devised theatre, team building, view points, and movement workshops for corporate, non-profit, and educational groups of all sizes. We tailor our workshops to the needs of our community groups and offer them as one-day experiences or a multi-day workshop series.
This free conversation series takes a creative approach to building community through dialogue and helps us discover the subtle truths that unite our human experience. Throughout the year, The Rep hosts thought-provoking public forums intended to provide a safe space for the free exchange of ideas. This series explores the intersectionality of art and civic life with experts and thought leaders and skillfully discusses the issues that matter most to our community.

Andrew Kuhlman (Mosbacher Family Executive Producer) celebrates 14 years with STAGES in 2025. He is an STL native and has proudly worked with many companies in this stellar theatre community. Andrew was a Co-Producer for Broadway’s The Prom (2019 Drama Desk Winner, Tony Award Nominee) and serves on Boards/Committees for several organizations including MO Citizens for the Arts (MCA), National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT), The Arthritis Foundation, and the Kirkwood-Des Peres Chamber of Commerce. Andrew could not be more honored to have his career defined by his time with STAGES and is thrilled to call the team there his chosen family. He sends love to his husband Myles, the “Batman to his Batman” Gayle, and Grumpy.
Gayle Holsman Seay (Artistic Director) A proud Jersey Girl, Gayle is loving her transition to the Midwest and her new home in the STL theatre community. As a performer she was seen on B’way, tours, Symphonies, cruise ships commercials ,TV , films and more. As a casting director she worked on all the things she was lucky enough to do as an actor! She directed the 2002 Award winning production of A Chorus Line at STAGES and Jersey Boys last winter at Riverside Theatre. She was also a co-producer of The Cottage on Broadway in 2023. She wants to send special thanks to all of the people who jumped onboard with this idea of a co pro. From the cast and designers who all said yes a year ago before it was a real thing, to Danny, Dan and Becks who immediately thought it was a great collaboration, to the amazing Kate who was handed a situation and embraced us so warmly and completely, to Andrew for always supporting and being Batman.

STAGES St. Louis is a professional, not-for-profit organization with two primary focuses: professional live musical theatre and musical theatre arts education. The STAGES mission is to preserve and advance the art form of musical theatre through excellence in performance and education. The mission of the STAGES Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is to inspire passion, creativity, and curiosity in students of all ages.
STAGES was co-founded in 1987 by Founding Executive Producer Jack Lane and Founding Artistic Director Michael Hamilton. STAGES has been providing Broadway-quality musical theatre and performing arts education to the St. Louis community for 38 years. In 2025, our 39th season, will include three mainstage productions at our artistic home, The Kirkwood Performing Arts Center (KPAC). Opening in 2021, the KPAC is home to the 529-seat Ross Family Theatre, the Strauss Black Box Theatre, the dual-level, glass enclosed Kent Family Lobby, and a curated art gallery. The 2025 Season lineup will feature a lineup of musical premieres: the high-energy, two-actor comedy MURDER FOR TWO (May 30-June 29); the Pre-Broadway Premiere of AUSTEN’S PRIDE (July 25-August 24), a fresh musical take on Pride and Prejudice; and the inspiring story behind one of the greatest musical icons of our time, BEAUTIFUL: The Carole King Musical (September 19-October 19).
The level of excellence in STAGES’ artistic programs is matched in caliber by the highly respected SPAA, now in its 20th year of operation. The SPAA is the only local performing arts academy connected to a professional theatre, and the SPAA does not turn any student away due to their financial situation, providing more than $70,000 in scholarship assistance and underwriting annually. Education and Outreach programs reach more than 4,500 students and community members annually at the Kent Center for Theatre Arts in Chesterfield and at over 35 schools throughout the region. While the organization has evolved greatly over the years, one thing remains true: STAGES St. Louis is proud to invite anyone and everyone to experience the story through the magic of musical theatre.
