Need Help With Your Alameda County ERAP Application? Contact EBRHA! Currently Offering Rent Relief Application Assistance to Qualifying Rental Property Owners/Managers, & Renters in Alameda County Big news! EBRHA has received a $75K grant from the Alameda County Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) to help distribute the county’s allocation of $126M in emergency rental assistance funds (rounds 1 and 2) – this does not include federal allocations for Fremont and Oakland or the state’s more recent $5.2B in additional aid for rent repayment assistance. To date, the county has approved about $15M in rent repayment assistance since the program’s inception in mid-March 2021.

Before the county’s grant award, EBRHA helped over 160 rental property owners and their renters apply for rent repayment assistance.

EBRHA is now providing expanded drop-in, virtual and phone assistance for applicants. To make an appointment for rent relief assistance, contact acerap@ebrha.com or call EBRHA’s special assistance hotline at 510.347.8333.

For more information about the ERAP program, and to check your application status and upload documents to the Alameda County Housing Secure ERAP’s new community portal, please call 211, or visit the official ERAP website at ac-housingsecure.org.

The first and second rounds of federal assistance must be fully distributed by September 2022 and September 2025, respectively. As Outreach Ambassadors and Application Assistance Coordinators for Alameda County, EBRHA will provide new outreach campaigns and restart its ERAP application assistance to association members, rental housing providers (non-members) and their renters in Alameda County.

2021 California Gubernatorial Recall Election Voting Information All active, registered California voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the September 14, 2021, recall election. Vote-by-mail ballots started being mailed out on August 16, 2021. Voters can return vote-by-mail ballots by mail with prepaid postage, in-person to a secure ballot drop box postmarked by September 14, 2021, to a voting location, or to the County Elections Office by 8:00 p.m. on September 14, 2021.Check the Alameda County Registrar of Voters website at https://www. acgov.org/rovapps/maps/ballotdropbox_map.htm for drop box locations. Oakland to Continue its Own Rental Assistance Program Starting this week, San Francisco's local Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) has been merged with the State of California's program. Los Angles has also opted out of its city-managed ERAP. Qualifying applicants within these cities are now required to use the statewide ERAP application portal for the second round of federal rent relief funds for all unpaid rent and utility debts. The City of Oakland has decided to continue running its own local ERAP program. EBRHA is still offering drop-in, virtual, and phone assistance sessions and will help following up with existing applications. City of Richmond: Business Investment and Attraction Strategy The City Manager’s Office, Economic Development Department is inviting Richmond residents and business owners to a community forum to discuss the Richmond Business Investment and Attraction Strategy. HR&A Advisors drafted the strategy report, with input from multiple stakeholder interviews, discussions with the Economic Development Commission, and constant communication with city staff. The Business Investment and Attraction Strategy identifies actions to attract private investment, support local employment, increase the accessibility of services to businesses and property owners, and enhance the business environment, focusing on promoting inclusive and equitable growth. Fluorescent Lights Burnt Out? Here’s What to Do With Them

SEPT. Even if the compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) you use are more efficient, they don’t last forever. So, what should you and your renters do when you’re done with them? First things first: Don’t throw them in the trash!

Fluorescent lights contain mercury, a potent toxin that’s dangerous for renters, workers, public health, and the environment. That’s why it’s illegal in California to dispose of them in the trash.

Mercury can harm the brain, heart, and immune and nervous systems — and contaminate drinking water, fish, soil, and air. High-intensity discharge, metal halide, sodium, and neon lights also contain mercury.

Instead of trashing unwanted lights, recycle small numbers of lights for free at residential take-back partners in your area (find the closest location at bit.ly/safelights-ca). Here are a few tips for recycling your lights: Renters should store and transport their spent lights in a closed container and in a way that prevents breakage.

Property owners and other businesses should store removed lights in a closed, dated, and labeled box or cushioned drum, and recycle lights yearly, at a minimum.

If a fluorescent light breaks, open a window to disperse mercury vapor, collect the shards, and place in a closed container. Do not vacuum! See EPA guidance at epa.gov/cfl.

Once you drop off your lights at the collection site, the glass is recycled or landfilled, metal is recycled, and most mercury is stored or safely disposed of.

Are you or your renters using LED lights? They don’t contain mercury, but they do contain other toxic metals — so recycle or dispose of them safely too!
