1. Remove Current Door And Frame Start by removing the current door and frame. Slowly and carefully remove the old lock and hinge pins. This allows you to lift the door out of its frame. Next, remove the old trims along with the jambs and header. This will leave you with a gap in the wall, often referred to as the ‘rough opening’.

2. Measure And Level the Rough Opening Check the dimension of the rough opening. Measure and level everything carefully before continuing on to the next step. You will need to measure the height of the rough opening and the width at the top and bottom. Don’t forget to check the side of the rough opening to make sure they level. It's a good idea to take these measurements before buying the new door; that way you get the perfect dimension.
