Best in the West nugget RiB Cook-off

Bring your appetite and lots of hand wipes to the Nugget’s 27th annual rib cook-off, which kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Victorian Square in downtown Sparks. Twenty-three cookers from across the nation will compete for prizes and titles, including the coveted “Best Ribs in the West.” Watch competitive eaters, including reigning rib-eating recordholder Joey Chestnut, chow down as many ribs as they can in 12 minutes during the 10th Annual Nugget World Rib-Eating Championship, starting 6 p.m. on Wednesday. In between servings of ribs and all the fixings, visitors can enjoy live entertainment on several stages, peruse vendors booths or let the young ’uns try out the bounce houses and carnival rides in the kids’ play area. Headlining bands on the main stage include Jelly Bread and Mojo Green on Wednesday, Sept. 2, Jamestown Revival on Thursday, Sept. 3, Dishwalla on Friday, Sept. 4, LOCASH on Saturday, Sept. 5, Foghat on Sunday, Sept. 6, and ALO on Monday, Sept. 7. All shows start at 7 p.m., except for ALO who will hit the stage at 3 p.m. The festival is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday.
