LAKE TAHOE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL:
The 43rd annual festival features two mainstage productions, Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, and the world’s longest-running musical, The Fantasticks. The productions will be performed in rotating repertory by a single company of actors at 7:30pm Tuesday through Sunday through Aug. 23. A multi-event Monday Night Showcase and new Summer Encore Showcase will augment the Festival’s 2015 mainstage productions and feature a diverse array of live music and entertainment from a variety of genres through Aug. 17. The 19th annual celebration of the area’s LGBT community and supporters begins on Friday, Aug. 14, with the Official Reno Gay Pride Kick-off Party featuring a meet and greet with the stars of Frank Marino’s Divas. The party begins at 9 p.m. in the Sapphire Lounge at Harrah’s Reno, 219 N. Center St. Admission is free. The event moves to Wingfield Park, 2 N. Arlington Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 15, for a full day of live entertainment on the Wingfield Park Amphitheater stage, a beer garden, shopping and a variety of food vendors. The entertainment lineup includes Charley Geary, Markie, Talent Force Performance Team, Unity Dance Troupe, Athena McIntyre, Xavier Toscano, Raquela, The Ethel Merman Experience, Frank Marino’s Divas, Nevada Gay Men’s Chorus and Ms. Vanity Natalie Wynters, as well as guest speakers. The daytime festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $5. Admission is free for children who are accompanied by an adult. The Reno Gay Pride Black Light Afterparty at 5 Star Saloon, 132 West St., concludes the day’s festivities with DJ/dancing and celebrity impersonations by DemenCha and members of Frank Marino’s Divas. RENO: I Am My Brother’s Keeper, Yad Vashem’s new exhibition pays tribute to the courageous deeds of the Righteous Among the Nations and to the resilience and determination of those who survived the Holocaust. The exhibition makes use of state-of-the-art multimedia productions to bring the actual voices of both the rescuers and those who were rescued to the audience, reflecting upon their moral choices and engaging the audience to contemplate how spontaneous, intuitive decisions can make a difference and save lives.
