Looking for something off the beaten retail path this holiday season? Check out a few of these arts and craft fairs taking place over the busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend. IndieReno.org will hold its fifth annual holiday show featuring locally made products at the Reno Town Mall, 4001 S. Virginia St. There will be free swag bags for the first 25 shoppers (with purchase) each day as well as a Giving Tree that will support the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. The fair takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. Visit www.facebook.com/IndieReno. The Reno/Sparks Indian Colony will present the 2014 Native American Craft Fair featuring more than 40 local and visiting vendors who will offer beadwork, artwork, basketry, blankets, baked goods, Indian tacos and more for sale. Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 29-30, at the Reno/Sparks Indian Colony Gym, 34 Reservation Road. The Eagle Wings Dance Group will perform at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Call 329-6114. The Reno Gem Faire will feature fine jewelry, precious and semi-precious gemstones, beads, crystals, gold and silver, minerals and more. There’s more to do this weekend besides shopping for holiday gifts. Take a friend or family member out to the theater. Reno Little Theater, 147 E. Pueblo St., will open its production of Christopher Durang’s comedy Vania and Sasha and Masha and Spike on Friday, Nov. 28. The 2013 Tony Award Winner for Best Play takes Chekhov’s characters and plots and transports them to a dysfunctional modern-day family in the forms of Vanya and Sonia, co-habitating siblings whose lives are turned upside down when their movie star sister, Masha, returns to the family home with her much younger lover, Spike, to announce she’s selling the family home where the pair resides. Performances are 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 28-29 and Dec. 4-6, 11-13, 18-20 with matinee shows at 2 p.m. on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, 14, 20-21. Stroll around the facility while observing Animal Ark’s animals in the cooler temperatures of late fall when they are more active and frisky. If you have raw turkey necks and gizzards that you did not use for your holiday meal, you are welcome to bring them as they make good treats for the animals. Dress for the outdoors and call prior to visiting in case weather conditions change. Admission is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors, $10 for children ages 3-15 and free for children age 2 and younger.
