See world-class athletes paddle over the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe during the longest running stand-up paddleboard race in the world. The festival features events for all ages and skills, including a men’s outrigger race, a beginner 2-mile race, and a 10-mile race, among other competitions. There will also be a vendor village, free paddle clinics and demos, a raffle, a kids’ sandcastle contest, a concert by Keyser Soze on Friday, Aug. 15, and Hawaiian dancing by Halau Hula ‘O Leilani on Saturday, Aug. 16. Reno Gay Pride
Celebrate diversity and community spirit during the 18th annual festival in downtown Reno offering a full day of live performances and entertainment, as well as a vendor area, beer garden and food. On all-day festival pass is $5. Children will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at Wingfield Park, First Street and Arlington Avenue in downtown Reno. Other Reno Gay Pride events include Reno Gay Pride Comedy Night featuring comedians Ronn Vigh, Marga Gomez and Karinda Dobbins. The show begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at Sammy’s Showroom inside Harrah’s Reno, 219 N. Center St. Tickets are $20. The official Reno Gay Pride Kick-off Party begins at 8 p.m. later that night at The Stage @ The Zone inside Harrah’s Reno. Admission is free. Foxhop: A Scored Film Screening and Rooftop Blow Out with the Holland Project
The Holland Project and the Nevada Museum of Art present this summer party featuring the 1937 animated feature film The Tale of the Fox paired with a live score featuring members of Carcoza, Teen Creature and Up is the Down is the. Prior to the screening, visit Fox in the Atrium to receive a special fortune and be pick up a special limited edition poster from UK-based artists Claire Scully and Stewart Easton. After the screening, head upstairs for a rooftop after party featuring DJs, a sundae bar, special projections, a photo booth, cotton candy station and more. Austinpalooza
The music festival features headliner Lee Rocker of The Stray Cats with supporting acts The Engineered Disaster, Seymour’s Trick Bag, Bootleggers and Lavish Green. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children under age 12. All proceeds benefit Austin’s House, a children’s emergency shelter in Carson City. The show starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the TJ’s Corral outdoor events center at the Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395 north, Minden. Tough Mudder
Teams of “weekend warriors” will test their mettle during the annual event featuring 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to challenge participants’ strength, stamina and mental grit, as well as foster camaraderie and cooperation. Some of the event’s obstacles boast names like “Fire in Your Hole,” “Sewage Outlet,” “Electroshock Therapy” and “Arctic Enema.” Tough Mudder has raised more than $3 million for the Wounded Warrior Project, and more than half a million people have participated in Tough Mudder events around the world. The Tahoe event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 16-17, at Northstar California Resort, 5001 Northstar Drive, Truckee, Calif. Participator fees are $185-$220.
