Vampirates tour Homecoming sHow
The local punk rock band returns to the Biggest Little City after several months of touring the States, and an incident involving law enforcement in St. Petersburg, Fla., in which band members were mistaken for terrorists. Get a taste of what’s to come at next month’s Burning Man festival during Controlled Burn’s annual fire arts festival and Artown event. The gathering and official NV 150 event features art cars, mutant vehicles, vendor area, the Fire Garden featuring fiery sculptures and performances by BohoHoops, eNVision, Tahoe Cielo Aerials, Nataraja, Stiff Kitty Burlesque, Obsidian Butterfly, Controlled Burn, Flameology and Black Rock City Allstars, among others. The fun takes place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, at the Reno City Plaza, 10 N. Virginia St. and along Virginia Street between Mill and Second streets. Admission is free. Arguably the region’s biggest special event of the year, Reno, Sparks and neighboring cities take a nostalgia trip to the 1950s and 1960s during this celebration of classic cars, rock 'n’ roll and Americana. The festival features more than 5,000 classic vehicles, show ’n’ shines, drag races, controlled cruises, concerts, a swap meet, sock hop, prom and classic car auction. Hot August Nights events take place across the metro area with most public events centered in downtown Reno and downtown Sparks. HAN kicks off its Tahoe South event on Friday and Saturday, July 25-26, at the Heavenly Village Chateau area and along Ski Run Boulevard off Highway 50. The festivities move to Reno on Monday, July 28, with the official kick-off party, which begins at 4 p.m. at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino, 2707 S. Virginia St. The event concludes on Sunday, Aug. 3, with the official parade down Virginia Street in downtown Reno. For a complete list of events, visit www.hotaugustnights.net.


nortHern neVada pride FestiVal and community pride parade
Build Our Center, Reno’s LGBT community and friends come together for a weekend of fun and celebration. Highlights include the Drag Olympics at Harrah’s Reno, 219 N. Center St., and the Official Pride Kick-Off Party at Tronix Nightclub, 303 Kietzke Lane, on Friday, July 25, followed by the CommUNITY Pride Parade on Saturday, July 26. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Lunsford Park, along Riverside Drive and First Street, and heads for Wingfield Park, 300 W. First St., for the Pride Festival. The festival begins at 11 a.m. and features a day of music, arts, entertainment, games, food and vendor booths. Admission to the festival is a $5 donation. Later that evening, Tronix Nightclub will host the Official Northern Nevada Pride Party starting at 10 p.m. For details, visit http://northernevadapride.org.
nV150 Fair
Carson City will host this state fair as part of Nevada’s official sesquicentennial celebration that has been taking place all year across the state. The festival features a 4H/FFA livestock show and other livestock and agriculture events, along with a carnival, music, entertainment, arts and crafts and more. The event begins on Wednesday, July 30, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 3, at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road, Carson City. Admission is free, although carnival tickets range from $1-$30. Tickets for the Comstock Comboys concert on Aug. 1 are $15 per person. Tickets are $6-$10 for the Ranch Rodeo on Aug. 2-3. Visit www.nv150fair.com. —Kelley Lang
