Spring Fever revival ClaSSiC Car Show

Silver Legacy and Hot August Nights presents the classic car show featuring live music, show ’n’ shines, vendors and more. Hot rods, classic cars and muscle cars from the 1960s and 1970s will be on display while groups like Nathan Owens, ’60s Summer of Love and Billy Richards’ Coasters and others play the music from the era. The festivities take place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31, along Virginia Street outside the Silver Legacy, Eldorado and Circus Circus casino-resorts in downtown Reno. Take a trip back in time to Elizabethan England during the 22nd annual Ren Faire. The festival will feature four stages of continuous entertainment, including music, dancing, Shakespearean vignettes, staged battles, storytelling for children and adults, archery tournaments and more. More than 100 merchants will sell a variety of arts and crafts, jewelry, clothing, historic weapons and leather goods. The first weekend of the Valhalla Renaissance Faire features a Scottish invasion theme and is geared toward younger audiences with activities for the whole family. During the second weekend, pirate and barbarian “hordes” invade the festival grounds. Visitors can participate in scavenger hunts, costume contests and “Talk Like a Pirate” competitions. The gates are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 and June 7, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 1 and June 8, at Camp Richardson, 1900 Jameson Beach Road, South Lake Tahoe. The Valhalla Renaissance Faire will also offer a School Day for students on Thursday, June 5, and a Family Day on Friday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission on Family Day is $5 for children ages 6-12 and $7 for adults. The nationally televised off-road racing series takes place on a short course track where spectators can watch all of the action from their seats in the grandstands. Some of the world’s best short course off-road drivers, including Brian Deegan, Jeremy McGrath, Carl Renezeder and Rodrigo Ampudia, will reach speeds of 90 mph and jump 100-plus feet through the air in 900-horsepower trucks. The event features qualifying races, a variety of motor sports industry vendors, food and activities. Gates open at noon on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31, at the Wild West Motorsports Park, 12005 East Interstate 80, Exit 23, Mustang. Opening ceremonies and main races begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25-$50. Admission is free for children age 12 and younger. On-site parking is $10. Visit www.lucasoiloffroad.com.

Bruka Theatre presents this musical that dives into the life of President Andrew Jackson with a mix of humor, politics and rock 'n’ roll. This “Wild West musical” with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman and book by Alex Timbers portrays the seventh president of the United States as an emo rockstar and focuses on topics such as populism, the Indian Removal Act and his relationship with his wife Rachel. The play opens on Friday, May 30, at Bruka Theatre, 99 N. Virginia St. Showtimes are 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday through June 21, with a 2 p.m. matinee on June 22 and Wednesday night performances on June 11, 18. Nevada Museum of Art presents this exhibition that showcases objects from the Honolulu, Hawaii, home of philanthropist and art collector Doris Duke (1912-1993) and new works by eight contemporary artists of Islamic background who recently were in residence, including Zakariya Amataya, Afruz Amighi, Emre Huner, Walid Raad, Shahzia Sikander, Mohamed Zakariya, Ayad Alkadhi and Shezad Dawood. The show opens on Saturday, May 31, at the NMA, 160 W. Liberty St. The exhibit runs through Aug. 31. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Admission is $1-$10 and free for children age 5 and younger.
