Sheep Dip Show

The 50th annual “roast of the town” exposes the follies and foibles of the Truckee Meadows through skits, songs and dance staged and performed by a local cast. This year’s show also features special appearances by singer Lacy J. Dalton, Jakki Ford and Cami Thompson, as well as Mark Twain impersonator McAvoy Layne. The show begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, and Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Celebrity Showroom inside John Ascuaga’s Nugget, 1100 Nugget Ave., Sparks. The third concert of the RCo’s 2013-2014 season features Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings and Mozart’s Symphony No. 41, the “Jupiter.” The program also features RCo principal oboist Rong-huey Liu performing the Concerto for oboe and orchestra by American composer John Corigliano. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Nightingale Concert hall inside the Church Fine Arts building, 1335 N. brüka Theatre presents this dramatic comedy written by Jeffrey hatcher that explores english theater in the 17th century at the moment when women were first allowed to perform on stage. At the time, only men were allowed to play theatrical roles. The play centers on a performer named Kynaston, a star of the London stage praised for his interpretations of Shakespeare’s most tragic female roles, including ophelia, Cleopatra and Desdemona. but when an unknown named Margret hughes plays Desdemona one night at an illegal theater, instead of stopping the show, King Charles ii changes the law to allow women to act. by the stroke of a pen, Kynaston’s world is turned upside down. The play opens on Friday, Jan. 17, and runs through Feb. 8, at brüka Theatre, 99 N. Virginia St. Showtimes are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, as well as a wednesday evening performance on Feb. 5 and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Feb. 2. Advance tickets are $20 general admission and $18 for students, seniors and military personnel. All tickets are $25 at the door. There will be a special $10 ticket for teachers and artists on Feb. 5.
