HOOPDREAMS

Danny and the Deep Blue Sea

Merry War Theatre Group, in association with Good Luck Macbeth Theatre, starts off the new year with this “foul-mouthed romantic fairytale” written by John Patrick Shanley. The play takes place in a rundown bar in the Bronx where two malcontents strike up a conversation over their beer. Danny is a brooding, self-loathing young man who resorts more to violence than reason. Roberta is a divorced, guilt-ridden young woman whose troubled teenage son is being cared for by her parents. Danny seems incapable of tender emotion, while Roberta is distrustful of men in general. As their initial reserve begins to melt and they decide to spend the night together, the possibility of a genuine and meaningful relationship begins to emerge for the first time for both of them. The play opens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, at Good Luck Macbeth Theatre, 713 S. Virginia St. Other performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 4, 9-11 and 16-18. Tickets are $13 and are offered on a “pay what you can” basis on Thursday, Jan. 9 and 16. Call 322-3716 or visit www.merrywar.com.
