Christmas Carol: An American Musical

Ski resorts celebrate the holiday season

Squaw Valley USA offers Holidays at Squaw featuring Santa Claus on the slopes and festive cheer in The Village at Squaw Valley USA, 1960 Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Valley. Visitors can also ski and snowboard, take the family snow tubing or grab a hot chocolate and find a warm spot by the fire pit while listening to holiday carolers. Events run through Jan. 1. Visit www.squaw.com. Northstar also offers holiday festivities including its Thursday evening Noel Nights, sleigh rides, appearances by Santa Claus, ice skating, holiday carolers and more. Heavenly Ski Resort, 3860 Saddle Road, South Lake Tahoe, hosts Heavenly Holidays featuring professional ice skating shows, ice sculptors, carolers, local artists and a 16-foot interactive snow globe where kids can get their photos taken with Santa. Winter Solstice Celebration

River School Farm marks the longest night of the year with a community potluck dinner beginning at 5:30pm on Saturday, Dec. 21. Guests are asked to bring a dish made from locally sourced ingredients. Following dinner there will be a circle ceremony, dancing and music by DJ Zephyr into the evening. Visitors can also stop by earlier in the day for a farm tour and bird walk starting at 3pm. Shitty Xmas Sweater/ Winter Solstice Party

Bah, humbug to all this holiday cheer! Head to Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor for a night of metal mayhem presented by Born Dead Productions. Purification by Fire, Doomtrooper, Slut Fungus and Half A Tusk are just a few of the bands scheduled to perform on Saturday, Dec. 21, starting at 8 p.m. at Jub Jub’s, 71 S. An Elegant Christmas

Reno Little Theater presents this holiday show featuring Marc Anthony (and no, he’s not the Latin pop music star and former husband of Jennifer Lopez) at the organ and dancers from the Spiral Ballet. The two shows takes place at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, at the RLT, 147 E. Pueblo St. Tickets are $15. A portion of the proceeds benefit The Wounded Warrior Project. The Nutcracker Ballet

The Reno Dance Company presents its production of Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet.
