Barrio Block Party

Nevada Museum of Art kicks off summer with a Latin-flavored block party this Saturday, June 8, featuring live performances, food and craft vendors and hands-on art projects. The exhibit features more than 50 works of art in a variety of mediums that addresses themes ranging from identity politics to emotional connections to one’s homeland. Artist Miguel Luciano, whose bicycle-based work “Pimp My Piragua” appears in the exhibit (above), will present a talk at the NMA on June 7 and will return the following day to pass out shaved ice treats from his creation. There will also be face painting, a rock wall for climbing and a Tumblebus for the kids. Interzone—The End

For more than two years, Jason Hollis and company have provided an outlet for Reno residents of a certain age looking to get their alternative ’80s, industrial and goth fix and a chance to relive their black-clad youth. Unfortunately, the monthly nostalgia trip will end this Friday, June 7. Hollis, aka DJ Endif, and DJs Scarcrow and TV1 will spin one more night of alternative club hits from the ’80s and early ’90s, mixed in with some newer stuff, before returning to the crypt (for the foreseeable future, anyway). Grab your favorite Bauhaus T-shirt and other wellworn apparel from back in the day and head to Studio on 4th, 434 E. Fourth St. Admission is $5.
