FEB/22: AILEY II The modern dance company returns to Reno. Founded in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, the company embodies Alvin Ailey’s mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training and community programs for all people. Under the artistic direction of Sylvia Waters, Ailey II developed into one of America’s most popular dance companies. In June 2012, Waters retired and named her longtime associate Troy Powell as the new artistic director, who continues the company’s legacy of merging the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s emerging choreographers. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S. Virginia St. Tickets are $15-$55.
