6/15:LAKOU MIZIK Churchill Arts Council presents multi-generational collective of a free concert featuring this Haitian musicians. The group was formed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, by guitarist Steeve Valcourt, singer Joans Attis and American producer Zach Niles as a way to bring healing to a country that had been devastated by an earthquake and subsequent cholera outbreak in 2010. Valcourt, Attis and Niles assembled a team of singers, rara horn players, drummers, guitarists and an accordionist who range in age from early 20s to late 60s and come from across Haiti’s musical, social, religious and geographic spectrum. The group’s first album, WaDiYo, reflects the African, French, Caribbean and U.S. influences that come together in Haiti. Their live show “blends the spirit of a church revival, the social engagement of a political rally and the almost trance inducing intoxication of a Vodou ritual.” The band will perform on Saturday, June 17, starting at 7:30 p.m. outside of the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon. Call (775) 423-1440 or www.churchillarts.org.
