6 months later… Where are you now?

Can you believe it has been 6 months since Covid-19 started? Do you remember what you were doing when this first hit? Some of us were looking forward to filling our calendars with educational classes, family outings, vacations, work conventions, holidays and so much more. Ok, so Covid-19 showed up and unfortunately everything had to drastically change. It was weird at first and I took a step back to analyze the situation. What was I able to do or not do? What could I move forward with or what needed to be cancelled or rescheduled? What about our real estate organizations, conventions, or meetings? To say the least it has been a whirlwind of a learning curve. We’re having to quickly learn or relearn to be more flexible, creative, or becoming a one man/woman show (again) on certain tasks; especially if you had a team conveniently located in one place. Although this time can be tense and stressful, we need to remember that we are essential. We are considered especially important to our family, community, industry, and our economy during this trying time. As Voltaire said in the 1700’s and Spider man said (for the younger bunch), “With great power, comes great responsibility”. However, you can relate to this quote, it resonates. It resonates immensely that we cannot revert, delay, or outright shut down- mentally or physically. It is our time to move forward like an infantry, soldier on, hit the nail on the head and whatever you do- Do not give up! Instead Shine, shine, shine! No matter what you do, have a smile, a positive attitude, a grateful heart and remember that things happen in seasons. Not the best time (by our standards) but this is a huge example of how sometimes no matter our preparedness or wish something, it does not always go our way. The thing to consider is not so much what happened (although important) but how we react during a time that is obviously out of our control. Now confession time, I’m a workaholic and seems that my life has been on light speed forever due to being needed in so many directions at the same time by what seems everyone else but me. Sound familiar? I’m sure I’m not the only one. The days go by so quickly and seem to not have enough hours in a day to complete all our tasks. Personally, I chose to take this time of separation from others and what seems a lengthy quietude to self asses both my personal and business life. It’s sad to admit but at times I wasn’t immersed in what I was doing. I was physically present but not my head. Many family outings, I was thinking of work or replying to clients or customers. At times I wanted one day to myself to sleep in late or get my nails done and didn’t follow through feeling the

guilt of not being available. I guess you can say I was on autopilot. To improve my situation, I had to remember why I got into real estate to begin with. It was because I care about people and love to help them find their dream home or manage their rental investment. Also, to financially provide for my family and to be my own boss and run my business how I choose. Ultimately it was to live a live by design. Since all this started, I’ve taken time to genuinely enjoy my family moments, make new memories and have taken that weekend cruise. I even deep cleaned my house to include reorganizing the garage. And in my business, wrote up a new business plan, designed new yard signs and logo and updated my database. The last thing is continuing my real estate education. It’s investment time for me and should be for you as well. Buy that other house or rental property, rehab your current home and lastly, take all the CE or designation classes you can. I leave you with the first sentence of the poem In a Dark Time by Theodore Roethke, “In a dark time, the eye begins to see”. Take this moment for yourself, to get to know yourself, improve yourself and you’ll be ready to face the world again through a new perspective.

Mission Title is your Local South Texas Title company that is making it their mission to change and adapt to meet the needs of REALTORS® and their clients during this Covid-19 pandemic. The virus has impacted our lives, but our business stays open, active and very busy. Mission Title has used abundant caution to forge ahead. They have been a leader in taking preventative steps to protect the health of their employees and many clients. Conference rooms are sanitized hourly and masks are a must. Mission can see that the REALTOR® community is out there working hard to sell, so their doors are open and escrow teams are committed to getting your deals CLOSED! In a sea of nationally owned and managed title insurance companies conducting business in our neck of the woods, Mission Title has kept every branch open and their staff has actually increased during this time. In addition, many REALTORS® have commented that they like doing business with a true Texas company. Mission Title’s founder, Gregg Lyssy, is a native San Antonian with deep roots in South Texas. He is one of the few title company executives who will give any REALTOR®, builder or lender his personal Cell phone number and answer when you call. No problem is too big for Gregg to find a solution for! Mission Title knows that today’s complex transactions require highly experienced closers. That is a strength that they can proudly point to as Mission Title has 34 closers who average 25 years of experience that are ready to assist you. Three of Mission’s closers have achieved the coveted C.E.S.P. designation, an award that less than three percent of all closers in Texas have earned. In

addition Mission title employs local examiners on staff, as well as a service department that provides many clients with vital information. For those complex situations, two staff attorneys are providing advice to escrow as needed. Another strength of Mission Title is its Education Department. John Neely joined the team in 2018 to provide continuing education (C.E.) to REALTORS®. Neely has taught thousands of agents in San Antonio and the surrounding 26 counties that Mission serves. Their classes are available at the 114 Glenview office every month. Check Mission’s website for dates or email John at jneely@missiontitle.com. Currently,

Alex Gonzalez of Mission Title was recently recognized by Mission Title CEO/President Gregg Lyssy for surpassing 60 Years continuous service in the Title Insurance industry. REALTORS who have closed their deals with Alex appreciate his calm demeanor under fire. John is providing continuing education classes via Zoom in order to keep everyone safe. When they are able to do it safely, Mission will bring C.E. courses back to your offices as well, just email John to find out more information on how to get a class scheduled. Please visit missiontitle.com/education to view the calendar of classes offered each month. Finally, when you get a new listing, please consider using a local company and list Mission Title as your preferred Title Company in MLS. Also, when you write an offer please try to use Mission Title to close your contract. They want to be part of your winning team!
