“TML” has evolved into a publication designed to help support entrepreneurs, humanitarians, and entertainers who are all paving the way in their charitable work. The stories and unity that they have built is a deeply unified expression throughout this issue. Across the country they came together to give sincere support to the SabesWings Foundation and their mission. At the end of day, we are all out to help as many families as possible. This issue is dedicated to all their work, the Saberhagen family’s charity, and the Second Annual Strike Out Event. This momentous affair will raise awareness about how cancer not only affects all of us physically and emotionally, but financially as well. We have all been touched by cancer in our lives. Whether it’s personal or from afar, we are all incorporated into these chapters of life. I lost my sister. She would have been the exact age I am today. And my mother is a breast cancer survivor. I cannot look at the philanthropic efforts of SabesWings without seeing it through my own set of eyes. It’s personal, yes. It really does matter to each one of us. My hope is your hope. We all wish together that foundations like SabesWings can move towards solutions and one day a cure.
Which brings me to our cover story with Mr. Toby Keith. The legendary performer is a true humanitarian who is being honored by his longtime friend, Bret Saberhagen, with the Lifetime Achievement Award from SabesWings. His unwavering support and dedication to helping others deserves this accolade. We have really enjoyed getting to know Toby not just for his renowned talent, but also to see the footprint he is making in this world. We wish Toby a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the stage doing what he loves very soon. Special thanks to Chef Roshni for connecting and introducing “TML” to SabesWings. We are forever grateful. To my team - ElizaBeth, Chef Kev D, and Tom - thank you for contributing your dedicated vision to the “TML” brand, but mostly your support. Bret and Kandace, it’s been such an honor to work on this project with you. We are humbled to be the official media sponsor for SabesWings. And lastly to my family, you give me wings to fly. Thank you for always believing in me Until next time, Live well, live inspired!

Building a Community of Unconditional Support
The SabesWing’s Triumphant Love Story of Bret and Kandace Saberhagen 12
THE MAGAZINE LIFESTYLE – SIMPLY INSPIRING
FALL 2022
Marriage is like the great game of baseball. There are many innings and many possible outcomes. You could be benched for a season with an injury just as easily as you could win the World Series as the underdog. No matter what, you are playing for the sake of the game – the game of love. Tenderness of the heart creates a bond that can never be broken. A shining example of this is the admirable relationship of Bret and Kandace Saberhagen. Many know them and call them friends because of the incredible things they have done to build the foundation of a caring community. While their storybook romance is that of the American dream, there have not always been pure moments of bliss. Their faith in one another was tested when Kandace was diagnosed with breast cancer. As the ancient philosopher Lao Tzu once stated, “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” The idea spoke volumes of truth when together they found strength to not only heal her, but also to open their minds to the possibilities that their love could help conquer many of the eye-opening difficulties they witnessed in the medical world when someone gets sick. “People do not save for cancer. You save for vacations. You save for college education. You save for a car or save for a house. You save for so many things, but you do not save for cancer,” says Bret about the relentless cycle they realized was happening to those who were in medical care around them. “It’s stressful enough for the whole entire family not knowing if they’re going to make it. There is so Photos courtesy of CVP Productions | Robert Fanning Candace Oestreich
much anxiety and all you get is sleepless nights in return. Then you throw into the mix the question of how we can afford this. You just bring added stress to the equation.” 13
After Kandace recovered, she became an advocate alongside her dedicated husband. SabesWings was born from a place of darkness, but from that black hole a formation of guiding light was established that swung open the door to a new world of possibilities. She firstly wanted to find a way to provide financial support. That followed expression for the need for alternative therapies, which most insurance companies do not provide resources to cover. The bottom-line didn’t add up for Kandace and it only pushed her to find a more equal playing field for fellow cancer sufferers. Medical Financial Toxicity is a predominant topic in the medical industry as it explores viable alternative therapies to treat many diseases. MFT is defined as a severe issue for patients who cannot pay for medical bills after exhausting insurance or as a result of non-insurance. Resources become finitely diminished when a patient chooses between life-saving modalities or paying for everyday expenses. The dynamic couple now work on a united front to help produce a world of change with SabesWings. They have become pillars of strength. They have become the loud voice for so many individuals who would fall through the cracks and never be able to climb out of the depths of despair when cancer hits a loved one.
“
This is our passion. This is our path. It gave focus to both of us in our marriage. It is a testament to what we really want to accomplish and give back as a legacy to our children.

FALL 2022
Exceeding all expectations after the first 2021 Strike Out, the Saberhagens and their loyal staff and volunteers went full force to produce the fundraiser for a second year. Blood, sweat and tears all poured into the making of the moment. While there is nothing easy about a gathering with so many prolific elements, it is a sacrifice that Bret and Kandace willingly make again in 2022. In the end, the only thing that matters is what they can do to help others. Their beautiful love story could have just been a fairytale, but instead they made their life journey a proclamation for all to hear. They want the world to listen to the message that this is not just about them. It is a mission to make the world heal. With gratitude and admiration, they thank all the

volunteers, board members, artists, workers, and vendors who come together for a second time in Paso Robles for the Strike Out Events.
The education and awareness that we’re bringing throughout all of those arms of support is really going to extrapolate even further because now they understand it and can speak to it.
”
So, for us, that means that we’re doing something amazingly well. It’s not just about helping the individual. It’s about broadcasting the epidemic.
Thanks to this work that positively touches lives, it will forever be like hitting a homerun out of the ballpark repeatedly. It is a game of love that in the end all simply walk away as champions.

Serving Up Good Giving and Good Eating with Operation BBQ Relief
We hope you are hungry. This good serving of philanthropy is more than a mouthwatering delight. Chances are if you have been to a major fundraiser across America that involves the artistry of the outdoor barbeque you have come across the wonderful people of Operation BBQ Relief. The well-known organization is a nonprofit that has provided over 9 million meals throughout the United States and internationally following natural disasters, COVID-19 response, and through The Always Serving Project, benefiting the homeless, first responders, veterans, and members of the military. Bringing together talented and dedicated individuals, the group was originally founded in May 2011 in response to a need for tornado relief efforts in Joplin, Missouri. It was here that competitive pitmasters from different states answered the call to feed displaced families and first responders. Together, they were able to serve over 120,000 meals in a 13-day period. This experience of building a network to feed individuals in need has been the inspiration for Operation BBQ Relief. These are the unsung American heroes who cook a savory meal that warms up the belly as much as the heart. Operation BBQ Relief CEO and cofounder, Stan Hays, has since the beginning of the program understood the power of a warm meal. His journey with food and discovering how to use it to help others started when one of the first displaced people he served a meal thanked him with pure gratitude. He discovered how a simple sandwich could be just as meaningful as a hug to someone who has lost it all. In a moment, you feed someone and they in return take inside of them the compassion that they so desperately need.
“BBQ simply brings people together,” he emotionally and proudly emphasizes. This year at the Second Annual SabesWings Strike Out the beloved organization will continue their philanthropic efforts. Extending services throughout the event, Hays explains that ticket holders will get special curated tastings during the golf outing, as well as the ceremonial dinner. It is a rewarding experience for the groups to come together in such a meaningful way. The CEO is also incredibly humbled by the overall work that goes into making all the magic behind the great dishes being served happen. Good people that work together with vendors and board members alike to make a fundraiser work at any size is truly amazing. The same hard work ethic that goes into feeding real people in need is put into events that help raise much-needed funds. Every single person comes together for good food and the good fight, many of whom have had to face their own personal battles with cancer and the medical industry crisis that SabesWings works to help resolve. “Given almost every one of my volunteers has said that they happily use their vacation time or pay with their own money to get to places where they can help means the world to me,” states Hays. “Why they do things like this? Why do I do this? It’s really that personal story that comes out of volunteering that makes us do this special work every single event we attend.” Here is to good food uniting people together to do good things one big bite at a time.

September. As an icon in music and the world of philanthropy, what does this mean for you to receive this award?
These things are designed as fundraisers. And the Saberhagens have given their time to my event and to other events, Make-A-Wish, etc. So, it’s honoring them as much as it is anybody. On paper it looks like I’m being brought in and honored, which is wonderful for them to pick me to do it. But at the end of the day, it’s just like a keynote speaker at any event. But in my opinion, this event honors them as much as it does anybody for all the work they do.

Any lingering doubt
as to whether pandemic woes or political problems would hamper nonprofit fundraising efforts have largely fallen by the wayside with philanthropic groups like SabesWings leading the way. The commendable work of the organization is exemplary and has been made even more notable due to their association with several outstanding community leaders. Admirable men and women are making a difference and creating a positive change. Such is the case with last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Jay Johnson. The Republic National Distributing Company executive has been running the charge to encourage donors. An ardent advocate for SabesWings, he has been committed to the cause of helping cancer patients find support from the community for several years now. His indelible contributions and tireless support are never-ending endeavors. Johnson’s boundless optimism exemplifies the impact of one person changing the future for millions. As a pioneering entrepreneur who oversees the daily ins and outs of the second-largest wine and spirits distributor in the U.S., he spends a lot of his time in a business state of mind. But for all he does at work, he equally gives the same amount of attention to good causes like SabesWings. Johnson’s life is always driven on a road built with love. With humble gratitude, he accepted the SabesWings first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. The proud family man who used the personal story of his own wife Dewi surviving cancer to push him to help others in need understood that like in his business, a successful team effort produces amazing results. SabesWings co-founders, Bret and Kandace Saberhagen, have identical traits to Johnson and his wife. Similarly, their families unitedly beat cancer. The life-altering process made them recognize the power of a group working together on a

mission. This was even more truth to the pairings when they realized it took a strong society working together to combat medical financial toxicity on behalf of cancer patients. “The more the people that are involved, the more that this organization is able to get their message out to help others. In turn, it helps raise funds for real people that genuinely have a real need,” reflects Johnson. “SabesWings really comes in and helps people who get in a bind. It’s just such a great cause that I am proud to be involved with again this year.” At the 2022 Strike Out Event, Johnson’s exemplary commitment and essential understanding will expand as he passes the torch to this year’s Lifetime Achievement heritor, Toby Keith. The entrepreneur will honor the legendary performer, who has a persistent need to help children and their families battling cancer. No legend is too small to hear their story. All humans in this race to beat cancer and stomp out medical financial toxicity are worthy of awards. It just takes one person to make a difference. Johnson is worthy of applause, as is Keith. These heroic men prove that every person can bravely take the spotlight when it comes to heartfelt work that changes the world for the better. 45

PATRICK DAVIS For over a decade, Patrick Davis has made a name for himself as a prolific and versatile songwriter, sought after by
artists ranging from Guy Clark and Robert
Randolph to Jimmy Buffett and Imelda May. As front man of Patrick Davis & His Mid-
night Choir, Davis has discovered his own authentic sound. Tennessee-born, South
Carolina-raised, and Nashville-based, Davis received his calling in his teenage years,
inheriting his talent from his father, Rusty
Davis, a gifted guitar player and instructor. “Bret and I have been friends for a few years now and as soon as he told me about Sa-
besWings and the mission they are on I let him know that I would be honored to help
in any way that I possibly could. The idea of
someone having to choose between fighting an illness or facing financial ruin is heart-

LAUREN JENKINS
Americana singer-songwriter Lauren Jenkins has been a touring artist since she was 15. The Texas born, Carolina-raised artist chose a life that would fit perfectly in the songs she writes about countless smoky bars, fake IDs, and endless miles on the road. Music has been her one constant companion. Named an artist to watch by “New York Times,” “Billboard,” “Rolling Stone,” and many more, she was also chosen as a member of the “Class of 2019” by influential radio DJ, Bobby Bones. She also made her “TODAY Show” debut as Elvis Duran’s “Artist of the Month.” “Music has personally saved me at times in my life. I think connecting is the thing we are all searching for, and music has always been a connector. I’ve always been a storyteller. I love hearing people’s stories and sharing stories through music. Recently I’ve had some health issues and had to have a total hip replacement. I understand how challenging and scary navigating the insurance and medical system can be, so I feel even more connected to SabesWings and the work they are doing. I’m finally walking again and able to get back on stage to play. I’m even more grateful to get to share my music since having to take a pause for a couple of months.”

From a small town in Northwest Georgia, Channing Wilson learned about real life American good times and hardships. He’s not afraid to tell you about it either. From his songs like “Poor Man’s Cocaine” referring to methamphetamines taking over rural America, to songs like “Black Jesus,” which is a story of two men - one young and one older - finding friendship despite the racial stereotypes of the times. Channing’s voice and songwriting is widely considered in the top echelon of the “who’s who” in the Nashville community. “Music gave me a life and has continued to save that life year after year. It’s the language we can all understand. My hope is to positively impact people through my songs, and I hope to continue to be involved in the future.”

THE CREDENCE OF COLT FORD
When you hear the name Colt Ford, your mind immediately pops with vivid colors and saturated shades of brightness. He is more than a celebrity musician or a pop culture persona. He is a true artist who brings deep emotion equally to the stage as he does when he steps out of the arena. Fans from coast to coast simply love the charismatic performer who captivates with his fun-loving grin and jovial mannerisms. Hang out with him and in less than five minutes he will take the weight of the world off your back. You have nothing to worry about in life. Just relax and find the bliss of life when you listen to a Ford song playing on the radio. The Georgia singer, songwriter, rapper, musician, performer, and co-founder and co-owner of Average Joes Entertainment keeps up pace as the country’s preeminent independent trailblazer. By 2019, Colt built a series of successes as he rose to mainstream notoriety. He scored five consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart with Declaration of Independence bowing at number one in 2012. Two years later, “Thanks for Listening” ascended to the Top 10 of the Top 200, with the album reaching number one on Billboard Rap & Independent charts. Meanwhile, he struck six songs onto the Hot Country Songs Chart with “Back” [feat. Jake Owen] going Top 40. Among many awards, Ford received a nomination in the category of “Vocal Event of the Year” at the Academy of Country Music Awards for “Cold Beer” with Jamey Johnson. Selling over 3 million albums, attracting millions of followers on social media, and hitting 1 billion-plus streams, the country rap pioneer’s discography includes collaborations with everyone from Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, and Jermaine Dupri to members of No Doubt, Lit, and Lady Antebellum.
Additionally, he co-wrote Jason Aldean’s hit “Dirt Road Anthem” and Brantley Gilbert’s hit “Country Must Be Country Wide” as a behind-the-scenes force in the studio. Moreover, Ford’s solo tradition of genre-blurring continued with “Love Hope Faith” in 2017 by way of cuts such as “Reload” [feat. Taylor Ray Holbrook], his “We The People, Volume 1” album and on into his “Keys to the Country” EP in 2021 with Kevin Gates, RVSHVD and more. His ballads enlighten people and are the touchstone of his lifelong mission to simply help people find happiness. Therefore, Ford is dedicating his outstanding talents and time to the SabesWings fundraiser in 2022. His unfailingly sunny presence has made him a friend to millions of fans as equally as to individuals like Bret and Kandace Saberhagen. Like a good neighbor, he is always there for everyone – especially when it comes to helping support cancer patients in need. Knowing the founders of SabesWings for years, Ford reflects on why he lovingly is dedicated to appearing this year to help raise much-needed funds. “If they said they were doing anything, I’d want to be a part of it because of the type of people that they are,” he says. “I am just honored to be involved and to be able to give back. When you’ve had some success in life yourself that’s what it’s all about.” The advocate musician humbly reflects, “I wanted to do something and help other people. If there’s any way I can be involved, I simply want to be involved. I mean that’s what we’re supposed to do to be a good human being. It’s as simple as that.”

A S PA R K L I N G E X A M P L E O F G I V I N G Four Carat Vodka President and founder, Justin Donahoo, and co-founder, Marissa Donahoo are a dynamic duo leading the way in the spirit world with their outstanding brand Four Carat Vodka. Rave reviews for their product are matched with equal applause for their incredible philanthropic efforts. The highly successful entrepreneurs are a married couple who come from a real estate background and business developer market. It was in these industries that they honed skill sets to help them succeed in the world of alcohol distribution. Perfecting their abilities combined with a desire to succeed, they merged to form Four Carat Vodka. Their enterprise was created from a place of ingenuity to rock the old system to create a new space that thrived. Leaving behind the comfort of their normal 9 to 5 jobs, they took a risk and launched a brand that is uniquely beautiful and full of pizazz. Their authentic experience is a truly sparkling example of the American spirit and how following your own path can enlighten the world for all. It is a story that shines as bright as a diamond. Absolutely befitting for the mission of SabesWings, the entrepreneurs are proudly sponsoring this year’s event with their amazing Four Carat Vodka. Synonymous with the efforts to find your own way to succeed and live your best life despite the odds, the Donahoos will be helping serve up delicious cocktails made from their small-batch vodka at this year’s fundraiser. All in all, it will help celebrate and honor all involved.
This year’s event will also be a grand Californian introduction for the Colorado-based company in the state. Each bottle of Four Carat Vodka contains pure Rocky Mountain snowmelt mixed with gluten-free ultra-premium alcohol. “First and foremost, we want to bring attention to SabesWings and the cause by participating,” says the president. “We really want to push that as much as we can as we promote our own product. We are in Colorado, so to be promoted in California is going to be very special for us. It’s the best of both worlds and we are honored. We feel so privileged to be able to be a part of it. We’re thrilled, but the most important thing is that we spread awareness about the cause and help as many people as we can.” Made in small batches, it is carbon- filtered and gluten-free premium vodka. Each bottle of pure vodka is handcrafted by master distiller artisans in Windsor using snowmelt from the region to ensure the utmost purity. Once each bottle is filled, it goes into a brilliant custom box, specifically designed to give a retail audience the slightest peek of what’s inside, while still securing the mystery of their one-of-a-kind collectible diamond closure. It is sure to produce a memorable drink on this special week of festivities and beyond.
