Expiration Dating Of Cosmetic Products

The removal of expiration dating is being implemented by IMAGE Skincare as part of our EU compliance initiative. Expiration dating is not in accordance with the EU Cosmetic Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 which requires a durability period for cosmetic products.

All Image products have been evaluated for their durability in stability testing under accelerated conditions of temperature and humidity to ensure that the products meet the EU regulatory requirements. Based on the test data and in compliance with the EU regulation, the Period After Opening (PAO) symbol – the open jar symbol with a designated value of months, e.g., that can be found on the back panel of the product package or outer carton informs the user how long the product is suitable for use once the container is opened; you will see that for the majority of Image products, they can be safely used for 12 months after opening. Continuing to have expiration dating on the product in many cases may contradict the PAO period, as the expiration date may go beyond the stipulated PAO.
