A Message from Steve Walters, Managing Partner 2018 marked a special year in Reminger history, as we celebrated 60 years since the founding of our law firm in 1958. To think, we have grown from two people in one office, to more than 350 people across 14 offices and 3 states. In that time, we have not only expanded our footprint, but also increased our scope of services. From our beginnings in transportation defense representing trucking companies and their insurers to our current standing as a full-service firm, Reminger has grown to meet and exceed the demands of our clients. We were once again honored this year as a “Best Law Firm” by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers, earning national rankings for Transportation Law and Insurance Law, along with multiple metropolitan Tier 1 rankings for various practice areas. We were also named by Vault to their “Top 150 Under 150” and “Best Midsize Law Firms for Diversity” lists. Mario C. Ciano Mario C. Ciano celebrated an auspicious year in 2018. On June 1st, Mario was honored with the “William K. Thomas Professionalism Award” by the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association at their Annual Meeting. The award is bestowed on “a lawyer or judge who has significantly contributed to the enhancement of professionalism in the Greater Cleveland legal community by exemplifying the goals of the Ohio Supreme Court’s ‘A Lawyer’s Creed’ and by furthering the ideals (of) the mission of the CMBA.” On June 20th, Mario also received the 2018 ORT America Jurisprudence Award. ORT America is a non-profit Jewish organization that promotes education and training in communities worldwide. The ORT America Jurisprudence Awards are presented annually to members of the legal community whose professional and personal lives have substantially improved the quality of life for their fellow human beings, created role models for others to emulate, and established new directions for the enhancement of their profession and their community. Congratulations Mario, not only for your welldeserved recognitions, but also for celebrating 50 years of service in the field of law.
Richard T. Reminger Our firm founder Richard T. Reminger also celebrated an exciting year in 2018, as he was recognized by both his alma maters. In October, Dick was honored with Case Western Reserve University’s “President’s Award for Excellence” during their 2018 Homecoming celebration. The event featured an address by CWRU’s President Barbara Snyder, who personally presented the award. In addition, the university celebrated the naming of the “Richard T. Reminger Athletic Director’s Suite.” An awardwinning artist, Dick donated one of his paintings for permanent display in the suite. A former member of the school’s varsity football team, Dick was also named Honorary Captain for the Homecoming game and accompanied the team captains onto the football field. Later that month, Dick was inducted into the 2018 Class of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (CMLAW) Hall of Fame. The CMLAW Hall of Fame was established to honor the outstanding contributions to the success and prestige of the law school by distinguished alumni, faculty, staff, friends and community leaders.

In Memoriam: Martin T. Galvin Reminger mourned the passing of our dear friend and partner, Martin T. Galvin in March, 2018. In remembrance of Marty, The Reminger Foundation granted $10,000 toward the creation of a scholarship fund in his honor. The Lawyers Guild of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland established the “Martin T. Galvin Memorial Scholarship Fund” in conjunction with the Catholic Community Foundation in an effort to promote the value of a Catholic high school education and to honor Marty’s legacy.

The Martin T. Galvin Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship awarded annually to a student attending a Catholic high school within the Cleveland Diocese, and who has a family member who is a member of the Lawyers Guild or is a practicing attorney.
The first recipient of a $1,000 scholarship was Kevin Cook from Saint Ignatius High School. He was presented with his award at a luncheon following the Lawyers Guild Red Mass, held in October. Future scholarship applications will be open to students attending a Catholic high school within the Cleveland Diocese, and who have a family member who is either a member of the Lawyers’ Guild or a practicing attorney. Proudly sponsored by
“Marty would have been deeply touched knowing that his legacy would be helping students with access to a Catholic education,” said Brian Sullivan, an attorney with Reminger who also serves as the current President of the Lawyers Guild of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. “Reminger is grateful to be part of this effort to keep Marty’s memory alive through the establishment of this fund.” Marty served as an attorney with Reminger from 2001 until his passing in 2018. Marty was active with the Lawyers Guild, the Irish American Legal Society, his parish, and other community and professional organizations. His reputation as a gifted lawyer was second only to that of his role as a dedicated husband and father to his two children.
