Gosh, is it that time of year again?

I must admit in the depths of winter, I do completely empathise with the ancient cultures that worshipped the sun and prayed for it to re-appear every morning in case it decided not to!

When we begin to enter into spring it makes me very happy – and nothing more so than planning our summer events season at NE1.

As always, the first harbinger of summer at NE1 is the Northumbrian Water Quayside Seaside – I am so excited to see it returning and together we are planning to make it more fun than ever this year.

It’s also Mother’s Day, so it's time to spoil my fantastic Mum and what could be better for that than a day of shopping and indulging in our fabulous city centre (still in the beautiful sunshine of course). My only problem is which delicious restaurant we head to - so I had better get reading to help me decide!

Plans for a stunning office development on Newcastle’s Quayside have just been revealed, and they look absolutely breathtaking! When we heard rumours that a new barbershop was opening on Nun Street, our ears perked up. Once we got word that The Hoi Polloi was being led by award-winning British barber, Steve Chapman, that’s when our excitement went into overdrive.

Steve began his barbering career in Manchester before moving to the capital to work for Murdock London - a high-end barber emporium that was regularly frequented by everyone from Saville Row tailors to household Hollywood names. Steve’s work became talk of the city and the service was so good he was named Classic Barber of the Year by the British Barber Institute. A relocation to Singapore soon followed, where Steve became Head Barber at Jermyn

Street; cutting hair for the likes of Trey Parker, the England Rugby Sevens team and several other A-list names.

NE1 Can is all about helping young people in our city to understand what careers are out there, what careers are here and how to get there, and the programme is open to all schools, colleges and education providers across the region and is free to access.
