Our RT Edgar Network Agent Focus - Meet Beverley Higgs.
If a country estate with sweeping gardens is top of your wish list, head to the Macedon Ranges. With its cool climate charm there is nowhere else that compares.
In the 19th century Melbourne’s elite built grand estates up on the Macedon Ranges. Hidden amongst park-like grounds and ancient forests, these beautiful properties provided a welcome reprieve from the summer heat and were a prized status symbol.
Today Macedon is still prized by people seeking a slice of cool climate paradise. Enjoy wonderful food and wine beside a roaring fire in charming villages like Woodend, Kyneton and Mount Macedon. Nature is also bountiful and omnipresent.
Beverly Higgs is living the country dream with her dogs and horses. This keen equestrian is a fourth-generation Woodend resident whose family settled here during the gold rush. Beverly is also a Director at RT Edgar in Woodend, and one of the most knowledgeable experts on real estate in The Ranges.
“The market has been a little slow the last couple of years, but it’s heating up with Melbourne tree-changers returning, mostly retirees and young families wanting space and community connection,”
Beverly says. “We are also seeing buyers from interstate, especially those priced out of the Southern Highlands, near Sydney.”
Beverly specialises in prestige property and suggests heading to Mount Macedon for the best real estate, especially around the northern foothills near Hesket. Other high-end pockets include Woodend and Kyneton.
Compared to other regions, Beverly says there is great value for money in the prestige market: $2 million is the entry level price and enough to buy a good home on 10 acres; $3 million will get you an architecturally designed residence with established garden at Mount Macedon; and $5 million is enough to secure that grand country estate.

They don’t get much grander than ‘Sanders Wood’, a breath-taking Macedon Ranges estate. It encompasses a large French provincial villa set amongst sprawling parkland and manicured gardens with a private lake. Covering 80 prime acres near Hesketh, it is on the market at a price range of $5.5 million to $6 million.
Built in 1984, the current owners are a well-known couple reluctantly selling after 26 years. They are downsizing and moving back to Melbourne to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. And, while ‘Sanders Wood’ could top any wish list, there are more affordable options to choose from.

This is a magnificent equestrian estate on 61 acres of prime countryside.
