A SHIFTING TEMPO ACROSS THE MARKET As we head into the warmer months, we are seeing a shift in market tempo. Buyers are out in greater numbers, open inspections are generating increased interest, and the pace of the past fortnight suggests that both the Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula markets are settling into their traditionally busier run through to summer. This is a pattern we see most years, where lifestyle appeal tends to draw renewed attention as the days lengthen. Encouragingly, auction results across the group have continued to strengthen in recent weeks, which is very pleasing to see and is giving vendors added confidence to bring their properties to market. What has stood out through this period is the depth of interest across a range of price points, rather than activity concentrated at any one end of the market. Buyers who have been weighing up their options over the cooler months appear to be moving with more conviction now, and vendors are responding in kind, with several properties currently progressing through negotiation. There is also a sense that buyers are recalibrating their expectations to reflect where the market now sits, rather than holding out for conditions of past years. That adjustment, more than any single result, is what tends to unlock activity at this time of year, and it is encouraging to see it reflected in the conversations our teams are having with both buyers and vendors across the board. 30ml dark rum 20ml Biscoff vodka 20ml fresh lime juice 15ml Monin Gingerbread syrup Ice
To make the Biscoff vodka, macerate one Biscoff biscuit for every 100ml of vodka.

Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is frosted.
Optional garnish Skewered candied ginger
Double strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
Add the dark rum, Biscoff vodka, fresh lime juice and Monin Gingerbread syrup to a cocktail shaker.

For Bonnie & Neil founder Bonnie Ashley, gardens have long been more than a source of visual inspiration. They are places where memories are formed, colours shift with the seasons and the smallest details can spark a creative idea. It is this enduring connection to the natural world that shapes Jardin, the Australian design studio’s new Spring/Summer 2027 collection. Drawing on years spent exploring gardens around the world, Jardin brings together the romance of English cottage borders, the considered beauty of Berlin’s botanic gardens and the abundant colour of Paris’s Parc Floral. Tulips, lavender, giant water lilies and billowing roses all find their way into the collection, reimagined through Bonnie & Neil’s distinctive painterly approach. “Jardin began as a collection of memories,” Ashley says. “Years spent wandering the world’s most beautiful gardens, from the cottage borders in Kew, to the botanic order of Berlin, to the quiet corners of Parc Floral de Paris.” For Ashley, whose work has long celebrated the expressive possibilities of pattern and colour, the collection also reflects a lifelong fascination with flowers. “My lifelong love of flowers is given a season of its own. Jardin is my ode to nature’s seasons, to colour that shifts with the light, to the history held in every bloom. The artwork for Jardin is created from places I have visited for years but reimagined for the way we live now.” Rather than interpreting its botanical references too literally, Jardin layers painterly florals with stripes and 1970s-inspired geometrics. Citron olive, pink, sunshine yellow and vivid Yves Klein blue move throughout the collection, creating a palette that feels simultaneously nostalgic and spirited. Petit primroses, sweet peas and graphic rosemary motifs add another dimension, capturing what the studio describes as the feeling of a cottage garden on the first day of spring. That sense of abundance carries across the home. Cushions range from softly romantic floral designs to graphic stripes, lattice patterns and earthy woven textures, encouraging an eclectic approach to layering rather than perfectly coordinated interiors. The collection moves between warm rust, caramel and taupe tones and brighter expressions of pink, citron, green and blue, allowing individual pieces to introduce colour or be combined more boldly.
At the table, the garden influence becomes especially vivid. Linen tablecloths and napkins feature designs including Summer Patch Blue, Cherries and Berries, Jardin Multi, Radish, Geranium and Tulip, transforming everyday dining and entertaining into something altogether more expressive. The accompanying campaign imagery reinforces this idea beautifully. Tables are set among towering gums or filled with flowers, fruit, colourful glassware and contrasting linens, creating scenes that feel collected rather than overly styled. Indoors, the same prints sit comfortably alongside timber, woven textures and warm, earthy furnishings, demonstrating how even the collection’s more exuberant patterns can settle naturally into a home. Beyond living and dining spaces, Jardin extends into bathrooms with sculptural floral bath mats and striped designs in rich seasonal shades. Jute rugs, pedestal side tables, serveware and glassware broaden the collection further, allowing its palette and sense of play to move throughout different rooms. At its heart, however, Jardin remains a celebration of the garden itself and the enduring place flowers hold in our homes and memories. Through colour, pattern and a distinctly Australian ease, Bonnie & Neil brings those memories indoors, capturing the optimism and abundance of a garden coming back to life. ■

THE LEGACY OF
MARGARET PRESTON One of Australia’s most influential artists returns to the spotlight as the National Gallery of Victoria presents the first major retrospective of Margaret Preston’s work in more than two decades, offering fresh perspectives on her remarkable artistic legacy.

Spanning more than 200 works, the landmark exhibition traces Preston’s seven-decade career through paintings, woodblock prints, sculpture and archival material. From her vibrant floral still lifes to her distinctive Australian landscapes and pioneering printmaking, the exhibition celebrates the artist’s enduring influence on Australian modernism while placing her work within a broader contemporary conversation.
Rather than presenting Preston’s work in isolation, the exhibition also explores the complexity of her legacy by placing it in dialogue with contemporary First Nations artists. Nineteen artists feature throughout the exhibition, including newly commissioned works and recent acquisitions that respond to Preston’s appropriation of Indigenous visual culture, encouraging audiences to engage with both her artistic achievements and the ongoing conversations they continue to inspire.
Visitors will encounter many of Preston’s most celebrated works, including Flannel flowers (1938) and Shoalhaven Gorge, New South Wales (1940–41), alongside significant loans from leading public collections across Australia. Together, they reveal the evolution of an artist whose travels through Europe introduced her to PostImpressionism, Japanese woodblock printing and the Arts and Crafts movement, influences she would later reinterpret through a distinctly Australian lens.
Presented at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia from now until 31 January 2027, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to revisit one of Australia’s defining artistic figures through a contemporary lens. Rich in historical significance while thoughtfully engaging with present-day perspectives, Margaret Preston reveals why her work continues to shape Australia’s cultural identity nearly a century after it first redefined the nation’s artistic landscape. ■
A highlight of the exhibition is its extensive presentation of Preston’s celebrated woodblock prints from the 1920s. Depicting native flowers, Australian birdlife and Sydney’s iconic harbour, these works helped establish a uniquely Australian approach to modern printmaking, combining international techniques with local subject matter.
