We sat down with Great Dane Furniture to uncover the story behind their latest Copenhagen campaign. From celebrating Scandinavian heritage to showcasing timeless craftsmanship and unveiling exciting new collections, this milestone reflects everything the brand stands for.
What inspired Great Dane to shoot a campaign in Copenhagen? For years, we envisioned capturing our brand’s essence in Scandinavia, where our heritage is profoundly connected. This dream became a reality in a historic Hammerhøj apartment that perfectly reflects our holistic design philosophy. Shooting in Copenhagen allowed us to showcase our curated pieces in their most authentic setting, reinforcing our long-standing commitment to craftsmanship and timeless design. How did you approach planning and executing this ambitious project? Executing a campaign of this scale required two years of careful planning and collaboration with our Scandinavian network. We assembled an incredible team to find the perfect location, photographer, and logistics partners. Moving our handcrafted pieces through Copenhagen’s narrow streets and staircases was no small feat, but the effort was worth it. This campaign is a true reflection of the integrity, heritage, and design excellence that define Great Dane. How did your chosen photographer bring the campaign to life? Danish photographer Claus Troelsgaard was the perfect fit for our vision. Known for his sculptural compositions and masterful use of light, his work elevates architectural and design photography. Having previously shot for renowned architect John Pawson, Claus understands how to capture the essence of materiality and space. His eye for detail brought our collection to life in a way that feels both timeless and contemporary. How does your collaboration with craftspeople shape the Great Dane collection? For over 20 years, we have built strong relationships with Scandinavian designers and artisans who share our values of quality and longevity. We take pride in reintroducing archival pieces, preserving forgotten classics, and creating custom variations tailored to the Australian market. From timber finishes to upholstery choices, every detail is carefully considered to ensure each piece will be cherished for generations. What makes this campaign a milestone for Great Dane? We are the only high-end Australian furniture brand to have produced a campaign in Scandinavia, which speaks to our connection with the region. For more than two decades, we have pushed the boundaries of what it means to be a brand with authenticity and heritage. This campaign was a defining moment for us - it captures everything we stand for: timeless craftsmanship, integrity, and a deep respect for design. What exciting new brands and designs have you introduced recently?

We have added three new additions to our collection. Källemo, a Swedish brand founded in 1973, remains committed to resisting fleeting trends. The Botero armchair, originally designed for Stockholm’s National Museum, blends eras with a consciously eclectic aesthetic. Vandra Rugs brings new collections inspired by Stockholm’s Malmstenbutiken, combining Scandinavian craftsmanship with a strong social mission. Their weaving atelier in Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountains provides employment to artisans, preserving traditional techniques. Lastly, the Utzon Table 2 by dK3, designed by Jeppe Utzon - grandson of Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon - honours a family legacy with a modern take on Danish Shaker design. ■

Breakfast Milk PUNCH Tucked away in Melbourne’s smallest laneway, Aster is a hidden gem known for its exceptional cocktails and dedication to local flavours. Here, they share the recipe for their signature Breakfast Milk Punch - a bold and innovative take on a classic that is perfect for any time of day. For the Coc k tail Ingredients 30ml Gin (avoid savory gins; choose one with pronounced citrus flavours) 30ml Amaro Montenegro 30ml Mixed Berry Jam Syrup 30ml Lemon Juice
Method 1.
Add all ingredients (except the yoghurt and milk) to a mixing jug and set aside.
2. In a separate container, combine the yoghurt and milk, stirring until smooth. 3. Slowly pour the alcohol mixture into the dairy mixture. Place in the fridge and let it infuse for 2–24 hours.
30ml Greek Yoghurt
4. Remove the mixture from the fridge and pour it through a paper towel or oil filter-lined strainer. Allow it to drip strain completely.
30ml Full Cream Milk
5. Once strained and clarified, pour over ice and enjoy!
For the Mix ed Be rry Ja m Syru p Combine equal parts of your favourite berry jam and boiling water in a mixing jug. Stir until the jam melts into a smooth syrup.
Notes This recipe can be scaled up as much as needed. Once strained and clarified, the cocktail can be stored for up to one month.

Beautiful Bunch The
More than a flower delivery service, The Beautiful Bunch is a social enterprise aimed at empowering refugee women. We explored this inspiring venture with Studio Director Riana Jayaraj. Can you tell us about the origin of The Beautiful Bunch and the inspiration behind providing employment opportunities for women from refugee backgrounds? The Beautiful Bunch was born during Melbourne’s lengthy lockdown in October 2020. Our CEO, Jane Marx, together with three amazing young women from refugee backgrounds, saw an opportunity to create something meaningful. The idea was to offer paid training opportunities to young women who often find themselves sidelined in the mainstream workforce. We believe in the power of employment as a tool for empowerment. It’s crucial for these young women to gain meaningful employment early on. They face considerable challenges entering the workforce, and we are dedicated to helping them secure jobs, gain financial independence, and chase their dreams.
Could you discuss the challenges these women face in the workforce and how The Beautiful Bunch’s supportive environment helps overcome them? Many of the women we work with face a long and difficult journey securing employment in Australia. They’re dealing with a new language, unfamiliar culture, and often doing it without the support of family or friends. We provide a safe and nurturing space where they can grow and flourish. The Beautiful Bunch is all about creating a sense of community amongst these women, offering a supportive environment that caters to their unique needs and helps them overcome these challenges.
What significance does being the only Victorian not-for-profit focused on young women from refugee backgrounds hold for The Beautiful Bunch, and how does this influence your approach and initiatives? We have designed our program, and in fact, our entire business model, around ensuring that the barriers that exist to entering the mainstream workforce and even many other social enterprise programs, are not impediments to joining our program. Our approach prioritises accessibility: no prior work experience or high English proficiency is required, and childcare or limited availability are not seen as barriers. Our focus is on

meeting their needs while running a busy floristry business. In your six-month training program, what key skills do you focus on teaching, and how do you believe these skills prepare your trainees for future success? Over six months, we focus on teaching them everything from botanical knowledge and the basics of floristry to digital skills and financial literacy. We also place a strong emphasis on developing soft skills, like effective communication and building confidence. We aim to prepare them not just for professional opportunities in floristry but also for personal growth and success in various aspects of their lives.
How does your daily process of selecting and creating one style of bouquet distinguish The Beautiful Bunch? We start as early as 2:30am, heading to the Melbourne Flower Market to pick the freshest seasonal flowers and foliage for our “Bunch of the Day”. This commitment to using locally grown Australian blooms is part of our effort to minimise our carbon footprint. It’s not just about making beautiful bouquets; it’s about sustainable practices and reflecting our core values.
Can you elaborate on how purchasing flowers from The Beautiful Bunch contributes to the trainees’ professional growth and confidence? For most of the young women we work with, this is their first job. We provide paid training, which is essential for their full participation and growth. We are a social enterprise, so most of our work is funded through our flower sales. The support from our customers is crucial. We intend to provide our program participants with a diverse range of transferable skills that will set them up for long-term success. This work is made possible thanks to our loyal, flower-loving customers. ■
