Meet Trudie Cox, the creative force behind Eadie Lifestyle, a brand that has redefined elegance in home furnishings and clothing with timeless designs and a commitment to quality. We explore how Trudie's vision has cultivated a brand that celebrates the joy of living beautifully.

What inspired the founding of Eadie Lifestyle, and how has this vision shaped the brand?

The inspiration was twofold: a commercial gap in the market for timeless, classically beautiful homewares of exceptional quality yet affordable, and a personal need to express the character of Eadie. Yes, Eadie is a wonderfully interesting woman who lives in my imagination, coming to me with rich and vivid stories that formed our creative direction. She remains the creative compass for every style we make.

Can you share the story behind Eadie's character creation and her role as your creative compass?

Eadie came to me in full force one day in the shower. It sounds strange, but she made her presence felt strongly. I wasn't consciously trying to create her; she arrived first, detailed from the wine she drank to the flowers in her apartment. These tiny details inspired me to share her life somehow. Ten years on, I still feel her guiding me.

You're known for finding inspiration in life's simplicity. How does this translate into your product designs?

I'm fascinated by the small details in people's lives, from daily rituals to sensory experiences. This interest translates into designs that are detailed yet incredibly subtle. Our designs are understated, but beneath the surface, the fabrication, stitching, and manufacturing processes are rich in both detail and quality. We allow our customers to find their unique reasons for loving our designs.

What has been your most memorable project or creation with Eadie Lifestyle?

Two things stand out: creating my wonderful team and working with our team of artisans from day one. Never did I imagine I'd collaborate with such talented, like-minded people who inspire me every day. Watching our factory team in India grow with us has been incredibly special, enriching not just my life but my children's lives too.

How are sustainability and artisanry reflected in your manufacturing processes and materials?

We're committed to sustainability, working only with raw materials and avoiding man-made fabrics. Our factories are accredited, we pay our teams well, and we focus on organic dyes and responsible processes. Our weaving factory runs on solar power, and we're launching the Wabi Collection, made from 100% recycled linen, highlighting our dedication to environmental responsibility.

What home decor item do you believe can instantly transform any living space?

Cushions, of course! They're an inexpensive yet effective way to transform a room's look and comfort. That's why we love what we do, seeing the transformation in our customers' homes and their excitement.

What are your aspirations for Eadie Lifestyle, and how do you envision the brand evolving?

My aspirations aren't defined by a long-term business plan. The joy our range brings to people and our teams, both here and in India, drives me. Going forward, I want to spread that joy to as many people, families, and homes as possible, maintaining our core values of timeless design and quality artistry. ■

Henrietta, a Chapel Street eatery inspired by Middle Eastern flavours, shares its beloved Prawn Fatteh Rolls recipe for readers to recreate at home.

Ingredients Method

4 x brioche hot dog rolls

80g Kewpie mayonnaise

30g black tahini (or regular tahini)

500g steamed/boiled prawns, roughly chopped

3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped 40g pine nuts

60g Greek yoghurt

1 bunch sliced shallots

80g butter

20ml lemon juice

5g sesame seeds

½ bunch chives, finely chopped salt to taste

Serves 4

For the prawn mix

Toast pine nuts in a pan on low heat until light brown.

Burn the butter in a pot until nicely caramelised and foaming, then remove from the heat.

Reserve ¼ of the burnt butter to butter the bread rolls.

In a large bowl, mix the chopped prawns, tahini, burnt butter, shallots, yoghurt, garlic, pine nuts, and season with salt.

For the black tahini mayonnaise

Mix kewpie mayonnaise and black tahini in a mixing bowl.

To serve

Spread the reserved burnt butter on the buns and toast them on low heat in a non-stick pan until crispy.

Fill up the buns with the prawn mix.

Drizzle black tahini mayonnaise on top.

Garnish with sesame seeds and chives.

What inspired you to found Alepp, and how did the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre influence this direction?

As a volunteer, I experienced firsthand the great work that the ASRC does, which inspired me to try to do more. I wanted to build a business that would provide organisations like the ASRC with a diversified income stream beyond donations. I had also used traditional Aleppo soap for years because I have sensitive skin, but it was hard to find in Australia, so, the two ideas converged in a small business called Alepp!

With your background in senior management within the corporate sector, how have you applied your experience to Alepp?

It was quite challenging because, suddenly, I found myself doing everything without any support functions. However, I believe this situation helped me focus on the commercial side of the business. Although Alepp is a registered charity, our goal is to generate enough revenue to cover our costs and distribute the remaining profits to the ASRC. For us, profit is king! Having a background in communications also helps me tell our story, which is crucial for building trust with customers.

Could you share how your principle of “One idea. Two ingredients. Endless hope.” has influenced Alepp's approach to creating a product with significant community impact?

One of the key drivers of Alepp is simplicity. What we do is quite straightforward, and by keeping things simple, we reduce costs and waste, which in turn delivers the most positive impact. The phrase “endless hope” refers to the belief that our actions, no matter how small, can have a positive impact. And to be honest, you need to have bucketloads of hope to be in a small business at the moment!

This month, our Change Makers series features Kate Ryan, the visionary founder of Alepp, a social enterprise built around traditional Syrian soap. With a mission to merge compassion with commerce, Kate's journey shows how innovative ideas can generate change and hope.

Alepp is dedicated to allocating 100% of its profits to programs that support asylum seekers and refugees. Could you explain how this decision embodies Alepp's mission and values?

Supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Australia is the founding principle of Alepp and the reason we exist. Everything we do is focused on this goal, and having such a singular focus actually makes it easier to make decisions.

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre plays a significant role in supporting people seeking asylum in Australia. How does Alepp align with the objectives of ASRC, and how do you see this partnership evolving?

The ASRC is Australia’s largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. While we have no formal connection with ASRC, we share their objectives and support them however we can. Once the business is profitable, we will donate 100% of profits to their programs.

Sourcing Aleppo soap from Syria supports traditional soap makers affected by war. Can you discuss the impact this has on these communities and the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship?

Sourcing the soap directly from Syria has been extremely difficult due to the dictatorship there. For 18 months, I worked with a Syrian refugee in Istanbul named Mohammad to source the soaps from the best factories in Aleppo, Syria. Then, we spent six months in 2022 without any soap to sell due to challenges in exporting the soap from Syria. We try our hardest to support those still operating in Syria, but this may change in the future as many factories are relocating to Northern Türkiye.

Agents need to be informed and ready to provide realistic advice on renovations or additions that fit the buyer's vision and budget. This involves outlining the potential physical changes and explaining the possible financial and lifestyle benefits that such transformations could bring.

Agents can also leverage digital tools and technology to bring these possibilities to life. Through architectural renderings, 3D models, and virtual reality tours, buyers can virtually experience the potential transformation of a property, making it easier for them to connect emotionally and envision themselves living in the enhanced space.

Selling a property's potential is about crafting a narrative that goes beyond the home’s current state to what it could become. This involves capturing the imagination of potential buyers, helping them to see a future in which the property grows with them, adapting and evolving to meet their changing needs and desires.
