This report reflects how the creative processes through the "Bridging Possibilities" programs, enabling us to expand our reach to enlightened and enriched more youth. These results from 238 young lives and what they experienced together through the "Bridging Possibilities" A Character Education program.

Demonstrating the power and importance of inspiring and empowering our youth with the essential tools so that they are able to make better life choices, find their gifts and know that they matter! Allowing them to lead a more meaningful productive life and become tomorrow's leaders in Arizona and around the world, for a brighter tomorrow for all.

hat: Release the Fear, a non-profit health and human services organization, teaches Arizona’s youth the

life skills needed to combat the effects of Peer Pressure, Gang involvement, Bullying, Abuse, and Violence in our society and to make better life choices. Release the Fear (RTF) has worked with thousands of at-risk youth and adults in Arizona and around the world, offering experiential programs that help reverse the paralyzing effects of fear and diminished self-worth. Our programs encourage youth to explore safe and healthy lifestyles and to overcome disabilities through the development of leadership and social skills through evidence-based curriculum that meets National Common Core standards. H

ow: These programs stimulate whole-brain thinking and develop metacognitive thought processing by utilizing

new applied-knowledge teaching methods. These programs demonstrate options that awaken a creative consciousness and expose the unlimited potential of critical thinking and problem solving to help participants develop better cognitive behavioral skills. Our trained facilitators guide participants through interactive creative activities and analytically explore the connectedness to their lives. Release the Fear utilizes inquiry-based learning experiences, an educational practice where the teacher/facilitator uses controlled questioning to serve as a learning guide in order to move students towards new understandings. Educational research shows that student retention increases when new learning is discovered through inquiry practices, as the student is able to take ownership of these findings. The teacher/facilitator must act as guide while being an expert questioner, thinking of the end objective at all times and posing questions to allow students to reach objectives on their own. When this is done, students are able to create new thought patterns which connect and build on their applied knowledge and personal life goals. Without these essential life skills, the still- maturing minds of detained youth view their future as bleak with no hope for a “normal” life.

pproach: Through experiential programs, we encourage participants to develop valuable core life skills, better

critical problem solving, and a healthy sense of understanding of self and others. Through the RTF programs, participants discover that anything is possible, that they have a purpose in life. They see why they do matter to the world, to the community, and most of all to themselves.

T

ransformation: The Maricopa County Juvenile Probation Office released a 2010 report demonstrating the value

of Inside Out Bridging Possibilities workshops on 357 of their juvenile population. Thirty percent of incarcerated youth recidivate—meaning three out of ten will again find themselves in conflict with law and society and back behind bars. For the incarcerated youth who participated in just one Release the Fear workshop, that recidivism figure dropped by 23 percent. For those who were able to benefit from multiple workshops, it dropped by 16 percent - nearly half. That is an impressive impact on any child’s future as well as the community in general..

Release the Fear, Inc. has worked with youth in Arizona and internationally, in such places as Guam and El Salvador, instilling positive life changes for thousands.

Average of 450-500 Arizona youth per year have found themselves in secure care or behind the fence at Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) Out of that a three year longitudinal study was conducted 2012-2015 on 928 youth that participated in the Release the Fear program.

For ten years, Release the Fear has had the opportunity to interact with over 9,500 disadvantage and at-risk youth; these youth now know they have a life purpose. They know their wishes and dreams can come true. They know they are worth it and that they matter!

Our evidence-based curriculum has helped troubled kids in schools, jails, detention, and treatment centers. Through the creative processes of art, music, and communication, we teach kids cognitive behavioral skills to build self-esteem. They learn tools to help them succeed in school, conflict resolution, and to address peer pressure, and bullying.

Between the years 2007 and 2016, Release the Fear has shown constant improvement upon youth’s pre- and post-reporting’s learned about perceptions of themselves.

In addition, during the years of 2012 and 2016, Release the Fear has contributed to an overall improvement of youth’s self-reported willingness to assist another if bullied. Despite a decline of reported learning’s about proactive options to prevent being bullied, their learning consistently remained over 78 percent.

Release the Fear Workshop Methodologies Release the Fear, utilizes educational consultants to consistently evaluate our evidence-based programs, make improvements and changes as needed. RTF relies on a yearly, Comprehensive Needs Assessment to help us implement methodologies that improve student's capabilities to succeed.

Inquiry-based Learning is a method that focuses on student investigation and hands-on learning. The educator’s primary role is that of a facilitator, providing guidance and support for the participants through the learning process. Inquiry-based learning falls under the student-centered approach, in that students play an active and participatory role in their own learning process.

Cooperative Learning refers to a method of teaching and classroom management that emphasizes group work and a strong sense of community. This model fosters students’ academic and social growth. Cooperative learning falls under the studentcentered approach because learners are responsible for their learning and development. This method focuses on the belief that students learn best when working with and learning from their peers.

VAK (Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic) Learning uses the three main sensory receivers: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (movement) to determine the dominant learning style.

It is sometimes known as VAKT (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, & Tactile). It is based on modalities—channels by which human expression can take place and is composed of a combination of perception and memory.

Through stories, activities and artwork, Release the Fear’s Workshops will help students to:

     

Draw One’s Fears and Awaken Hopes and Dreams Stimulate Creative Listening and Communication Bridge Understanding Discuss How Color Affects Us and Our Environment Senses Heighten Visual Awareness of Our Environment Turn Pain into Possibilities into Purpose.

The students are divided into groups or teams that they remain with throughout the workshop. In their small group, the students may be asked to complete an activity, to share responses, or to reflect on an exercise. Often times these groups can have students with different beliefs, various backgrounds, and even opposing gang affiliations.

The workshop will end with a group created painting to be displayed for the public.

Participant Responses Participants are asked to reflect on several of the activities and then share with the group.

These responses are written in their words without edit.

The following responses are from the students who range in ages from 12-14.

The students are asked to reflect on the following question: How do you think this activity could help you in your daily life (In School, Out of School, or In Your Career)?

Who am I? : Listening, honest, participation, respect. Listening to teachers which is respect. Being understanding, listening, and being honest. Jobs, parents, career. / Trust, honesty, courage. Trust people around you. Stand up for others. Be yourself, don’t be someone you’re not. / Learned how to listen and respect each other. Listen and respect our peers. Respect people and not disrespect. Listen and respect to others. / Respect, being trustful, being kind. Team groups know they can trust you. Confront the bully. Learn from your mistakes.

Creative Storytelling: Citizenship. Help you schoolmates. Help the person being bullied. Help out people, just basically be good citizens so we won’t go to jail. / Faith, responsibility, trustworthy, caring, respect, citizenship.

Care about others. Tell them to stop. You have to be responsible in a job or you’ll be fired. / Work together.

Work better in group work. Respect one another. Be interactive in the real world. / Actions speak louder than words. Using those actions with other people. By being caring. Being respectful and caring to family.

Mirror Work: That I know I can succeed and hope. / I kinda like how I am. I can tell in my eyes I’m scared of something. / It makes me feel great. / By doing this, it helps bring up my self-esteem. / Makes me feel nice and happy. / I feel better.

Also, I like how my eyes look. I felt a lot less insecure. / When I said those words to myself, I felt really happy and I thought that my reflection was a different person. / It made me feel confident. / It showed me that at least I’m not fake. / When I look at myself, I feel happy. / I feel proud, a little bit happy, heartworthy. / It made me feel special for once. / Good, happy. / My eyes suck me in staring at a dark hole. / Happy. / It makes me feel awesome. / Make me feel good about myself. / Good and relaxed. / What I felt was me being happy about myself. Also I like who I am. / It makes me feel good about myself and that time.

Who Is Your Hero: My hero is David Johnson. He shows courage and hope in his team. / My hero is my dog. I know it sounds weird but my dog is my best friend. My dog name is Smokey. Male, Lab, white fur, chunky. My dog is important to me because he has always been there for me. Like smarts and support and respect. / My grandma. Because my grandma is famous for helping people. Her sense of happiness. / My hero is my grandma because after everything she goes through, she never loses faith and there’s a million other reasons why I look up to her. She is important to me because she is like my mother and has done everything for me since the day I was born. / Mom. She help me out and she been with me all my life. / My Aunt Chantel. She takes care of us every day and gets us ready for school. / My dad is important to me because he helps me with work around the house and he helps me through tough situations. / Kylie Jenner. He’s my idol. I look up to him, he’s an amazing singer and I just love his songs. / My brother is in college right now at ASU and he is going somewhere in life, and that’s what I want to do. / My dad is my hero. That they’re honest, whatever the consequence is. / My grandma is my hero. / My dad because he helps me. / My family. Because they take care of me. / My family…also known as my heroes! Dad, mom, Ben, Mavie. My family is always encouraging to me. And they support me and my future. They are important because without them wouldn’t have the courage to accomplishing goals. / I think my friends are important because they have supported me through life every day.

Through the Hoops: We learned teamwork. Group activities. Your friends and you can confront a bully. The workplace. / Teamwork. We can apply this in school by finishing school work. We can use this by sticking together against a bully. You can use this in life by using teamwork to get the task done. / Getting through obstacles. By getting through homework, difficult subjects. Get through this obstacle by standing up for ourselves.

By getting through obstacles that we face in life for ourselves. / Teamwork makes the trust work. In a group project, you need teamwork to get it done. You and an adult can use teamwork to try to stop it. You can call your friends and on Black Friday use teamwork (what to buy).

Reflective Take Away Assignment: Confidence, self-worth, inspiration. When you’re presenting, you need confidence. You have confidence to do you. You gain confidence for interview and don’t do everything your friends do. / Self-confidence. We can use it if we play sports. This would help deal with peer pressure by you having confidence. We can use this by being self-confident if your boss gives you a task. / Self-confidence. To be confident in our schoolwork. By staying true to yourself and not given to the peer pressure. Have confidence so it can lead to success. / We learned to be self-confident. When there is a test we can be confident in ourselves. If it’s bad you can be confident to not give in. When the work stacks up in our job, we can be confident to get it all done.

Seeing Beyond: Context clues, communication, trust, visualization. You can apply context clues in math, science, reading, and foreshadowing. You can visualize what you want in the future. / Visualization, 3 rd eye.

Math, science, reading. Reach your goals. / We can do whatever we set our mind to. We can pass a test if we put our mind to it. Get through all of the obstacles if we set our mind to it. / We learned that communication is key. Science and math because you need to communicate with your teammates to solve the problem. You can communicate with your family to know where you want to go for Christmas.

Drawing one’s Fears, Hopes, and Dreams and Sharing: People have similar fears, make dreams more attainable. It would help you achieve more. Push through them. You would have grit. / Trust people, learn people have the same fears. Some people might feel the same cause of dreams and fears. Trust people with your dream and they could support you. / That we’re not alone. Everyone around us in school is going through similar struggles. Not let them put down our hopes and dreams. To push through even though situations might be uncomfortable. / Pushing through uncomfortable times can help you reach your dream. Being comfortable in

school can help you reach your goal. Being comfortable to help the bully stop. Being comfortable to push through challenges.

Reflective Take Away Assignment: Changing perspective. Joining new clubs. For getting a job. / Changing a negative to a positive. When you get in trouble in school, it is not that bad because you learn something from it.

When you don’t want to do something, keep trying. / Have a different perspective on life. To have a positive attitude towards school and your work. To eliminate self-sabotaging and be happier. / Changing your perspective is a good thing! You’re not doing so great in class so you can change your perspective into positive by joining a club. You got fired from a job and you can change your experience by getting a job you like better.

Yes/No: Surround yourself with people who believe in you. Push yourself to get better grades. You believe in yourself not to do dumb things. For doing things for your work. / Motivation. Don’t give up on the work. You think you can do more. You dreams could come true. / Stay committed to our goals. To not doubt ourselves with going to college. To not get off track by peer pressure. We can apply this to lie by avoiding self-sabotage. / Surrounding yourself with support can help you do great in life. The show of support of your friends can help on assignments. If you aren’t influenced by the right people, you may have bad choices. Socially active positively full of support can help you climb the rank ladder.

Describe a time when you had an experience that you perceived (thought/saw) as negative, but through time or something you, you perceived (thought/saw) the experience as a positive one: When I got on Space Mountain I actually felt nervous like the ride was going to break down but actually it ended to be one of my favorite rides. / I saw Treton get pushed by someone then I told him to leave Trenton alone. / Something negative that I’ve been through is not having parents involved in my life. I turned out for the best because I wouldn’t be who I am today if my grandma hadn’t raised me. / When I came out to my dad. I was afraid he would get angry, but when he took it extremely well, I felt a lot better. After we talked for a little, we just went back to our normal routine. / At first I was scared I would mess up in front of the entire class, but then I realized I just talking to my friends. / Presenting. / I didn’t like presenting, but now I do. At least a little bit. / I didn’t think I was gonna like this group but I did right away. / If I turned a negative experience to a positive experience. Through stories, activities and artwork, Release the Fear’s Workshops will help students to:

Draw One’s Fears and Awaken Hopes and Dreams Stimulate Creative Listening and Communication Bridge Understanding Discuss How Color Affects Us and Our Environment Senses Heighten Visual Awareness of Our Environment Turn Pain into Possibilities into Purpose.

The students are divided into groups or teams that they remain with throughout the workshop. In their small group, the students may be asked to complete an activity, to share responses, or to reflect on an exercise. Often times these groups can have students with different beliefs, various backgrounds, and even opposing gang affiliations.

The workshop will end with a group created painting to be displayed for the public.

Who Is Your Hero: My sister (Ashley). She is a great example of who I want to become in life and she always there for me. What’s so great about her is that she’s herself and to me she’s EXTRAORDINARY. They are great role model and extraordinary. / My brother Angel. They listen, he listens / This is my best friend Alan. He is my hero. He is in seventh grade, his favorite color is royal blue. One of my favorite things in his room are his shoes.

The thing that he most likes about himself is his humor which I agree. His favorite place to go is school, which his favorite subject is reading. He also likes his play station 4 and his favorite food is subway. And his favorite animals are lions and monkeys. He is the greatest person ever and always has helped me and supported me when times got tough for me. He is my best friend. He is important because he knows how to make people happy and has helped me through times when I wanted to give up on life. / My mom is my hero. She gave birth to me without her I would not be here. All the life skills she tough me / Rosa parks. I think she is important because she stood up for what she believes in and I want to be like her / I don’t have a hero. They are important because they help us when we need it / My dad. They take care of me. / My hero is my older sister because she plays good softball and is responsible plus she take care of me and my brother when my mom goes out of town for work.

We can all remember a time when we did not listen to our Intuition or Inner Voice. We would like you to think of an example when you did follow your Intuition. What can you learn from this situation?

Once my mom was in a bad mood. Usually I’ll try to make jokes but I saw that she was sad so I didn’t. To know what to do at the right time. / It was when I was going against my brother in basketball we were down by 1 and they passed me the ball and I didn’t want to shoot but I had a gut feeling telling me to shoot so I did and we won. I learned that there’s a big chance of missing and losing but there’s a bigger chance of making it an winning, also believing in yourself. / When I didn’t think I could make the basketball team so I didn’t tryout and I regret it. That I have to go with what my heart says. / When I felt as if someone going through my backpack when I wasn’t in the room. It saved my stuff from being torn apart by my dog. Also, that trusting your gut is sometimes the right way to go. / When I was in the car with my mom and something was telling me to put my seatbelt on so I did then 10 sec later a car bumps into us and for that I didn’t get hurt at all. That your inner voice may be right sometimes / When I didn’t think I could stand up to a bully. That I should of listened to my inner voice / I was in the car with my parents and my mom was on the phone with my aunt and I had a feeling that something bad happened and it turned out that my cousin fainted and cracked a bit of his head open. I should trust my intuition. / When I got robbed To listen to my intuition / I remember one time when my inner voice was telling me that I could not run the 13.1 mile marathon but it was wrong I proved it wrong cause I did finish it. That some of your inner voices can be wrong and some other Inner voices can be right. Plus the inner voices that are wrong can help you by getting though things you think you would not be able to do before.

After seriously telling myself those words I felt like I have control over myself. I almost felt like I had power by hurt telling myself that I am perfect the way I am. / Very positive and ready to start a perfect day. / It makes me happy inside. / I feel special and just happy with myself. / I look beautiful, brave, strong, smart. It makes me feel amazing and that I have something in life just waiting for me.

We all can remember a time when we did not listen to our Intuition or Inner Voice. We would like you to think of an example when you did follow your intuition: I followed my inner voice when my brother did a card trick on me. You can learn that if you follow your inner voice you can make the right choice. / When my friends planned to sneak out and they wanted me to join. It was late at night and almost midnight and I followed my inner voice and automatically declined the offer. My friends were disappointed but I knew I made the right decision by staying inside. From this situation I learned to always do the right thing even if everyone else is doing the wrong thing. I learned to trust my instincts and do what my parents would want me to do. / I feel frustrated because I know I shouldn’t be violent because its rude. It turns out we were going on a trip to Disneyland. I learned that being passive aggressive is better. / Yesterday I walked away from my science teacher when he was yelling at me some other kids. I don’t like my science teacher and I most likely never will. / I told myself not to put the dishes away and to just watch Netflix. This was about a week ago. I got in trouble. Don’t do it again. / I was asked to join the cheer team and at first I wasn’t going to but when they asked me if I decided and thought about it and basically said try it. It will be fun. I learned you should always listen to your intuition. / I went outside to play and I didn’t do my homework. / I learned in this situation to be more responsible. / I played that game when I was a kid winning. You can use your inner voice to figure out a situation. / I had to think about whether or not to go hiking with my mom or sleep in. The result of following my inner voice was sore legs but a step closer to a healthy life. I can learn that hiking is fun and I now go every Saturday and it’s a great exercise and a good idea to listen to your inner voice. / I had to go do a presentation and I was really nervous to go up in front of the class but I told myself that it will be okay. It is okay to be nervous but if you push through it and believe in yourself you will be okay. / One time I was going do something irresponsible but then my inner voice told me not to do it. That this saved me from getting in bad trouble if my parents found out. / I refused to open the door to a stranger and later found out that it was a scam to steal homes. Always do the right thing. / When someone is being loud and I tell them to be quiet it just continues. Next time just let them keep going until they get bored. / Put a pair of shoes in the trunk so you can change into sandals. But you think it rain even though the forecast says 0% chance. Make the right decision, trust yourself. / I was super tired and it told me to crush my teeth first, as a result I had clean teeth. Always brush your teeth at night. / I could make better decisions. That there is always a better way to do something better. / My intuition told me to do my homework. I turned it in and it was a grade and I got a good grade. / I was at Castle N Coasters I had to decide to ride the biggest ride first or ride two smaller rides. I listened to my intuition and picked the smaller ride. I learned that when you start to do something you go slow at first. / When I needed to do my homework. My inner voice told me that I had to do it so I wouldn’t have to get in trouble.

The result was, I listened to my inner voice and id my responsibility before I did anything else. I can learn that when your inner voice tells you something that you need to do right, then listen because it could save you a lot of trouble. The time I stole my brother’s game and played it. My brother let me play the fame with him whenever I asked. That it is better to tell the truth.

Thanks to PESD Character Education, 16 young lives from Sunset Ridge Elementary experienced their Possibilities.

This workshop took place on January 23-25, 2017 – # 4 of 12 Opening up possibilities for the young minds of Arizona’s youth for a brighter tomorrow.© “Bridging Possibility” workshops.

Through stories, activities and artwork, Release the Fear’s Workshops will help students to:  Draw One’s Fears and Awaken Hopes and Dreams  Stimulate Creative Listening and Communication  Bridge Understanding  Discuss How Color Affects Us and Our Environment Senses  Heighten Visual Awareness of Our Environment  Turn Pain into Possibilities into Purpose.

The students are divided into groups or teams that they remain with throughout the workshop. In their small group, the students may be asked to complete an activity, to share responses, or to reflect on an exercise. Often times these groups can have students with different beliefs, various backgrounds, and even opposing gang affiliations. The workshop will end with a group created painting to be displayed for the public.

The students are divided into groups or teams that they remain with throughout the workshop. In their small group, the students may be asked to complete an activity, to share responses, or to reflect on an exercise. Often times these groups can have students with different beliefs, various backgrounds, and even opposing gang affiliations.

The workshop will end with a group created painting to be displayed for the public.

The students are asked to reflect on the following question: How do you think this activity could help you in your daily life (In School, Out of School, or In Your Career)?

Who am I? : Courage and respect. Respect teachers. Courage to stand up to others. Job easier / Differences and Similarities. Solve problems, shows we’re not alone. Shows we’re equal, all in it together. Different expectations, help situations. / Courage. To say something, I would talk to the bully and them. Try for a job you don’t think you can get. / To not judge. That people are different. To not judge someone on how they look. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Creative Story Telling: Work together, work together on projects, stand up to the bully. At your job get things done faster. / All in this together. We’re all together or equal. To help stand up for others, are expectations are required / Trustworthy. To respect someones privacy if they tell you something. If you ask the bully why do they bully and they open up and you not say anything. People know that they can trust you. / Team work, cooperation, stand up for what is right, you’ll not always going to work with someone you like. You have to learn how to work together.

Hero: Who is Your Hero and Why do you think are they important? : .My mom. I think they are important because she cares about me. Citizenship, caring, respect, helpful.

Drawing one’s Fears, Hopes, and Dreams and Sharing: Encouragement. Push yourself. Encourage yourself to get out of the situation. Encourage yourself to persevere. / We are all the same, to help know there are people who are same. Because some people might have gotten bullied for the same thing. To know there people just like you and you’re not alone. / Open up, are teachers could help show that one dreams matter and so do we. It will show that we need to express are feelings to get help. It will help us concure are dreams. / Opening up.

Opening up with trusted peers = friends. Opening up about how it bothers you. Opening up so that people can support or help you.

Write about a time when you were trustworthy or caring and helped someone else in a positive way. How did it feel afterward? : I was trustworthy with my best friend to keep a secret and yes she did keep it. It felt relieving that she didn’t tell anyone / I once gave a homeless person my Red Lobster. Now I ain’t gonna lie, it hurt to give it up and I didn’t have left overs the next day, but I guess it felt good. At the time, I wanted to cry and was dying on the inside but looking back on it, it was probably the nicest/best thing that had happened to him in awhile (or ever). / When I let my friend use my phone / My mom let me walk by myself and hold the keys when I got home. She trusted me so I can walk by myself / It was very good to feel like I could be trusted / I was caring at my football game I helped another player up. I felt surprised on how he reacted to it. / When my brother needed help to put his shoes on. It didn’t feel like anything / When my brother asked to babysit for him. It feel alright. It was a very good experience ‘cause I felt bigger. I also felt more trustworthy / A time when I was caring was when one of my friends was crying so I helped her out. It made me feel good because I help out someone who really needed comfort. / The time my friend was trustworthy was when I told my best friend a secret. She kept it. / Once I let my friend talk to me about personal when she needed help and I listened to her / I helped my brother take care of my niece and nephew. I felt really good because he finished what he had to do. / To say to my brother I’ll take care of him while my dad and mom are fighting / I was caring when my mom was very sick and I then washed the dishes / When I stole money from my mom and then I told her that I did it. / When I found a phone in the desk and I gave it to the teacher. Good / My friend Katie broke her ankle when fell off / missed the last step of the stairs. She was trust me to feel her ankle and to help her up and help her get home so I can tell her dad what happened. It made me feel scared and happy that she is okay and that she sprained not broke her ankle.

How do you think this activity could help you in your daily life (In School, Out of School, or In Your Career)?

Who am I? : We learned to respect others. Respect that they aren’t having a good day. Help them instead of making fun of them. Help them out with complications. / Other people, ourselves, courage, trust. Be kind, trusting teachers and people.

Teach bully to be kind, bullies become respectful. Standing up, respect, trust courage. / Understand others. Work with your peers better, understand learning abilities. If you don’t know much about that person then don’t make fun of that person.

More comfortable, share more things with them. / To be brave and confident. It will help you not be afraid to raise your hand in class. You can stand up to a bully and tell a teacher. It will help you accomplish your goals.

Creative story telling: Respect. Respect substitute teacher. Respect bully instead of retaliating. Respect people you may not like. / Teamwork. Solve problems that apply with multiple people. I think he is important because he doesn’t give up. / I think my dad is my hero because he helps me with things I don’t know how to do. I look for a hero that is fearless, courageous, and brave. / My hero is my mom. My mom is my hero because she takes care of me. / Myself. They are honest, work getting done. Don’t listen to what the bully says. When someone says something bad about you ignore them. / Teamwork. When if you don’t like the person you have to work together to accomplish your goals in school. You have to work together to stop the bully. If you don’t have food or a house then your friend can help you. / Problem solving. Problem solving applies in school because when your friends get in a fight you could resolve it. When you have a bully you could find out what’s wrong with the bully and solve the problem. When you have those obstacles in life like you don’t have a home you have to find a solution to the home situation.

If a bully is being mean to another kid you can stand up and show your courage. If your boss gets mad at you for making a mistake, learn from it. / Likes and dislikes. Thanks to PESD Character Education, 20 young lives from Villa De Paz Elementary School experienced their Possibilities.

This workshop took place on March 6-8 2017 - #8 of 12 Opening up possibilities for the young minds of Arizona’s youth for a brighter tomorrow.© “Bridging Possibility” workshops.

Through stories, activities and artwork, Release the Fear’s Workshops will help students to:  Draw One’s Fears and Awaken Hopes and Dreams  Stimulate Creative Listening and Communication  Bridge Understanding  Discuss How Color Affects Us and Our Environment Senses  Heighten Visual Awareness of Our Environment  Turn Pain into Possibilities into Purpose.

The students are divided into groups or teams that they remain with throughout the workshop. In their small group, the students may be asked to complete an activity, to share responses, or to reflect on an exercise. Often times these groups can have students with different beliefs, various backgrounds, and even opposing gang affiliations. The workshop will end with a group created painting to be displayed for the public.

How do you think this activity could help you in your daily life (In School, Out of School, or In Your Career)?

Who am I? : No judging, sympathetic and empathic and be fair. New classmates, teachers, food. Understand the situation.

New people and places. / No stereo-typing. Get to know everyone. Because if you get to know everyone you’ll become friends which prevents bullying. Help the world be a better place. / Confidence. You can be confident by doing good. Being able to speak up. If you are in a job interview. / Human responsibility. Perseverance is useful. Courage. Responsible for the environment.

Creative story telling: Confidence and listening. Listening to the teacher. Courage for presentation. Courage to confront the bully. Working with other people that you dislike. / Teamwork. Hero: Who is Your Hero and Why do you think are they important? What characteristics or qualities, would you or do you, look for in a Hero? I am my own hero. Why because I feel like I need to make a change. Most adults can set up to the expectations of being others so I would want to set that example. / My parents are my heroes because they gave me a roof and food to live and always support me and what I do that is why they are my heroes. Adele is amazing. She writes beautiful songs and is a very caring person who is equal to all. Leadership, kindness, charisma. and a very giving heart. Adele gets comments about her size, songs, and love life. She doesn’t care. / My sister. She is my hero because even though she has been through a lot. She did not give up. / My hero is my parents. They are important because they help me every day. / Because they are a good role model. Brave, strong, caring, looks out for me. My hero… II don’t really have one. If anything closest person to a hero qualification is my mother. She is strong and strict yet kind and cooperative. / My mother is my hero.

She helps when I need it. / My dad because he is a great father. He takes care of me and my family. He is smart, loving, caring, honest, brave and heroic. My dad was in the Marines before I was born. He is a hero in my family and to me. / My mom. She has spunk. Two years taking care of me and my family. Hard work, love, confidence. / My hero is my grandfather because he’s a very big factor in my confidence and goals that I dream to one day reach in my life. He has been through countless events which with others would be very difficult to come back from, but with his given amount of effort he is still alive to support our family and act as a great role model. They are important because they are very loving and caring. The main characteristics or qualities I would look for in a hero is an impressive amount of respect and care. Another is the way they give advice to those who need it.

Through the Hoops: Trust. You have to trust the teachers. The victims have to trust us to help. Trust yourself to get through the struggles. / Teamwork. Group projects. Work to solve the problem. You get stuff done faster with your group. / Communication, trust, teamwork, and cooperation. Group activities and discussions. A calm conversation with the bully and victim. At work, a conference or meeting. / Trust. Trust yourself and people around you. You have to trust other people to tell them your problem with bullying. Trust people when you are working.

Drawing One’s Fears, Hopes, and Dreams and Sharing: Thinking. You have to think before you do. You have to think on how to fix the problem with the bully. You have to think of your career and how you’ll live in the future. You have to plan out your lifestyle which uses thinking. / Relating to others. Things in common and make new friends. Might have the same problems. Having things in common like the same sports and talents. / Communication, recollection, and out spoken. Present ourselves more confident. Using inspirational words to open the bully’s mind. Communication with co-workers. / Communication. When you need help you need to communicate in order to understand. You can raise awareness.

That sometimes the hardest things can turn out to be good. / When I am in a sticky situation. How to use my third eye. / I was going to get in a fight but my intuition told me it’s not worth it. Fighting is not worth your time. Inner voice helps you do better. / One time I followed my intuition is when I decided not to follow a person getting in trouble at class. I learned that I should not be a follower or else I could end up in trouble. / When my friends told me to steal for them and I didn’t do it. Not to listen to the person when they want you to do bad things. /. I followed my intuition when I got out of school on early release and my grandma’s friend or her wasn’t there to pick me up. After a while I decided to just walk home. The reason this was hard is because I would get in trouble from my grandma and she would get really mad because this would be the second time. I learned that my intuition is usually correct in many stressful situations when it comes to handling them in a proper way.

Seeing Beyond: Skills or Tools Learned: Teamwork. All subjects all classes every subject has their own way of teamwork. When you go through an obstacle you need people to help. / Imagination, reasoning, and communication. ELA, social studies science. Business ideas, family issues. / Communication. We apply communication by asking questions and getting a better understanding. In any activity you will always need communication to do your best. / Communication. You can communicate with the teacher when you get a bad grade. Knowing that you could get stuff done.

This workshop took place on March 6-9 2017 - #9 of 12 Opening up possibilities for the young minds of Arizona’s youth for a brighter tomorrow.© “Bridging Possibility” workshops.

Through stories, activities and artwork, Release the Fear’s Workshops will help students to:  Draw One’s Fears and Awaken Hopes and Dreams  Stimulate Creative Listening and Communication  Bridge Understanding  Discuss How Color Affects Us and Our Environment Senses  Heighten Visual Awareness of Our Environment  Turn Pain into Possibilities into Purpose.

The students are divided into groups or teams that they remain with throughout the workshop. In their small group, the students may be asked to complete an activity, to share responses, or to reflect on an exercise. Often times these groups can have students with different beliefs, various backgrounds, and even opposing gang affiliations. The workshop will end with a group created painting to be displayed for the public.

How do you think this activity could help you in your daily life (In School, Out of School, or In Your Career)?

Describe a time when you had an experience that you perceived (thought, saw) as negative, but through time or something you did, you perceived (thought, saw) as a positive: When someone gets into trouble it’s going to be negative but the thing that’s positive was everyone else learns from the person’s mistake. / My apartment burning down. / I felt ashamed and mad and sad then I began and started doing it and told myself what my grannie had said and sure enough I had walked around four times. / In the beginning I was scared but at the end I was happy. / When I thought of something negative I always try to think of something good that can come out of it. / I broke my arm and my grandma made me feel better. But after the Release The Fear class I know that I can love myself for who I am and I can look myself in the eye and tell myself I love me for who I am./ When I first moved to Rio Vista, I hated it but at the end I realized it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

Getting a job, greetings. / Shouldn’t be angry. Encouragement. No attitude, encourage people, don’t get mad as fast. By not getting mad, courage to stand up to them. Looking at the bright side I love coming to see my friends. / I was mad because Z was going to a different high school then all my friends. Then I thought it was positive because Z was going to join the swim team. / I did something really bad but I tried to make the best of it by staying quiet and just do what I was supposed to even though I couldn’t think right. It really sucked.

This workshop took place on March 21, 23, 24 2017 - #11 of 12 Opening up possibilities for the young minds of Arizona’s youth for a brighter tomorrow.© “Bridging Possibility” workshops.

Through stories, activities and artwork, Release the Fear’s Workshops will help students to:  Draw One’s Fears and Awaken Hopes and Dreams  Stimulate Creative Listening and Communication  Bridge Understanding  Discuss How Color Affects Us and Our Environment Senses  Heighten Visual Awareness of Our Environment  Turn Pain into Possibilities into Purpose.

The students are divided into groups or teams that they remain with throughout the workshop. In their small group, the students may be asked to complete an activity, to share responses, or to reflect on an exercise. Often times these groups can have students with different beliefs, various backgrounds, and even opposing gang affiliations. The workshop will end with a group created painting to be displayed for the public.

Who am I? : Don’t judge people. Keep people out of danger. Standing up to the bully. Be brave and help others. / Similarities. Help each other out. It will help us and give them advice. Supportive and don’t judge people. / Don’t judge people and support people. Help when someone is being bullied. There is more support. When someone is being made fun of we can stand by the victim’s side. /More about others. Learned about leadership. With leadership we will help, and when we help we learn more about each other. By leading others not to bully. We will also know he or she are being bullied. We never know it there’s a homeless guy you could be a leader and help also we would learn why and how he got homeless.

Creative story telling: Teamwork. Help each other out. To invite that kid to play with us and get him away from the bully. It would help in life by helping others. / Sticking up for someone. Someone is lying on someone stick up for the person. Making the right decisions, getting help. If someone is getting bullied we can tell a teacher. / Teamwork. Through the Hoops: Be aware of surroundings. Let’s say you need a pencil to take a test use your surroundings to get a pencil. It would help because people are your surroundings and you can get through your problem with them. If you are in a home problem use your surroundings to get through them. / Helping others.
