PETRUS STEYN: He comes from a small town in the Free State called Mamafubedu Petrus Steyn, where he’s been actively involved in the community since he was a child. Mosia spent a lot of time working on local projects and in various other roles until, in 2015, he left his job as a miner to focus on his passion — South African history and heritage.“I have had a love and passion for South African history, culture and heritage since my early days at primary school,” says Mosia. “I am a typical farm boy who didn’t believe in cities, but due to a lack of employment opportunities in Mamafubedu Petrus Steyn, I travelled across the country looking for work. I was a gardener, construction worker, driver, miner and everything else in between until I decided to return home and focus on my passion for history.” Mosia decided to open a museum in his hometown. Since jobs are scarce and nothing happens in the area, despite its potential, he decided to make it happen himself. The museum is called Elandskop Museum, named after a local hill, and will be housed at an old train station that belongs to Transnet. He plans to return it to its former glory.“I identified the train station as it forms part of the history and heritage of our town and has been badly vandalised, so we are in talks with Transnet and other stakeholders to have the station leased or donated to us,” he adds.

“The museum will be home to an art gallery, book shop, cultural village and an arts and crafts shop, to name but a few.”However, funds are not easy to come by, so Mosia plans to cycle more than 3 000km to raise money for his dream. He also wanted to collect stones from both the black and white concentration camps of the Anglo Boer War (1899-1902) to build the first ever reconciliation monument to honour those who died in the war.“This idea slowly took root, and I’ve had the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Freedom Park, South African Military Veterans, and the Heritage Foundation all show interest,” says Mosia. “While the cycle tour hasn’t taken place yet as we are seeking funding, we’ve had plenty of visitors, even without [yet having] a museum. It has been running as a virtual establishment and has gone on to represent South Africa as a finalist in the African Youth Awards 2016 in the Civil Society of the Year category. We’ve had visitors from the Netherlands, Australia and Belgium.”In 2016, Mosia also received a Golden Shield National Heritage Award from the National Heritage Council for his contribution to South African heritage. He also received a Gold Medal and the title of Reconciliation and Unity Ambassador for his contribution to the education of the public.“As a young person with dreams I believe our biggest obstacles are drugs, the educational system and youth development. There is a huge need for the government to support those who take initiative,” concludes Mosia. “Many of my peers have given up because there is a lack of support. Our youth is frustrated and have lost hope. I challenge the youth all to rise up and take this country to where it needs to be. Do your bit for a better South Africa.”

REITZ - Op 8 Julie 217 het Reitz vir Marquard geklop in die eindstryd met die telling 30/16 Piet Hattingh, voorsitter van die Reitz-rugbyklub sê “die hele groep van 23 spelers het fantasties presteer en almal verdien om die speler van die wedstryd te wees, Ons bedank ook ons Hemelse Vader vir sy goedheid in die seisoen.” Reitz het agt ligawedstryde gespeel en sewe daarvan gewen.In die eindstryd het Johan Nel, Jaco van Niekerk, Drian Scheepers en Ernest Starke elk ’n drie gedruk. Johan Nel het vier keer tot die telling bygedra met sy doelskoppe. Marquard se punte is deur Eric Reynecke aangeteken en hy was ook dié span se speler van die wedstryd.Hulle het ses van hul agt ligawedstryde gewen. Die halfeindstryde is tussen Marquard en Collegians waar die telling 33-23 was in Marquard se guns en Reitz en Oudskoliere waar die telling 29-12 in Reitz se guns beslis. In die Stoney Steenkamp-eind- stryd het Ficksburg teen Collegians 2 met 40-7 gewen. Collegians was een van die gunstelingspanne om in die Willie Crowther-liga se eindstryd te speel. Hulle was tot voor die halfeindstryde bo-aan die punteleer in die Suid-groep.Reitz was bo-aan die punteleer in die Noord-groep.
Fatal collision on N3
□ Netcare 911 REITZ-A Free State man has died after the car he was driving collided with a truck on the N3 near the Roadside Reitz off-ramp on Wednesday the 5th of July Emergency officials were not able to provide any clarity on the circumstances that led to the accident. That is now the subject of a police investigation. The truck driver involved in the accident managed to emerge from it virtually unscathed though. “Paramedics, rescuers and police all responded to the incident. Tragically the male diver of the bakkie sustained severe injuries and died at the scene,” said Netcare spokesperson Nick Dollman.

REITZ: Op Sondag 9 Julie is ñ verdagte in hegtenis geneem nadat hy hulp gaan soek het vir sy wonde. Die verdagte het Sondag aand die vroulike slagoffer ingewag by haar huis in die Petsana buurt van Reitz en haar met ñ mes binne gedreig. Die vrou het verwoedelik terug baklei en kon stukke van die verdagte se tong afbyt. Die verdagte het sy aanval gestaak en op vlug gegaan. Toe hy mediese hulp by die hospitaal gaan soek is hy in hegtenis geneem op aanklagte van poging tot verkragting. Hy het behandeling ontvang voor hy polisie selle toe geneem is. Hy is positief uit geken aan sy besering asook die beskrywing van sy klere wat deur die slagoffer gegee is in haar verklaring. Die verdagte het al Maandag in die landdroshof op Reitz verskyn, maar wil vrydag aansoek doen om borgtog.
Ingredients: 80 g butter 375 ml self raising flour 60 g cheddar cheese grated 4 ml salt 4 ml pepper 1 ml mustard 1 onion chopped 20 ml oil 1 red pepper chopped 125 ml green beans sliced 2 tins tuna drained 1 packet ROYCO® Chicken a la King Cook-inSauce 400 ml milk Method Preheat oven to 180°C. To make the crumble, rub the butter into the flour, salt and pepper. Add the cheese and mustard, the mixture should resemble course breadcrumbs. Fry onion in oil until soft, add red pepper and green beans, stir fry for 2 minutes. Add ROYCO® sauce to the onion mixture and bring to the boil. Remove from the heat, add the tuna and then place the mixture in a 20cm oven-proof dish. Place mixture in a small ovenproof dish, sprinkle the crumble on top and bake for 20 minutes until the crumble is light golden. Serve with a green salad..

Lord Roberts het op 16 Junie 1900 die volgende proklomasie No.5/1900 uitgevaardig “Whereas small parties of raiders have recently been doing wanton damage to the public property in the Orange River county and south African republic by destroying railway bridges and culverts and cutting the telegraph wires, and whereas such damage cannot be done without the knowledge and connivance of the neighbouring inhabitants and the principle civil residents in the district concerned; Now therefor, I Frederick Slegh, Baron Roberts, of Kandahar and Waterfort, K.P, G.C.B, G.C.S.I, G.C.I.E, Field marshal, commander-in-chief of Her majesty’s troop in South Africa, warn the said inhabitants and principle civil residents that, whenever public property is destroyed or injured in the manner specified above, they will be held responsible for aiding and abetting the offenders. The houses in the vicinity of the places where the damage is done will be burnt and the principle civil residents will be made prisoners of war. Army Head-quarters South Africa, Pretoria 16th June 1900” Volgens hierdie beleid is byna al die boere se plaashuise verbrand, vee doodgemaak, lande verbrand en die vrouens en kinders is na konsentrasiekampe toe gestuur. In die kampe was daar onveldoende kos en mediese dienste en gedurende 1901 het ongeveer 25 000 kinders en 3000 vrouens in hierdie kampe gesterf. Klitsgras Klitsie het nou al van baie skelmstreke gehoor maar die een vat die koek letterlik. Tannie se man is 'n rukkie terug oorlede. Tannie is glad nie 'n spring chicken nie en die eensaamheid werk ook nie so lekker nie. Tannie is baie betrokke by die community en so ook by die gesin waar 'n pragtige jong adonis, 6 pack, bruin gebrande bene, bonsmara bul boude, grasgroen oë en spiere wat so die Vrystaatse berge bult ook bly. Kom ons noem hom Jannie. Jannie is baie dankbaar dat Tannie die familie in nood so gewillig uithelp met kospakkies, vleis en klere. “Kan ek Tannie se nommer kry?” Tannie gee heel onskuldig die nommer en bied aan haar deur staan enige tyd oop as Jannie oor iets wil kom praat. Halfuur later kry Tannie 'n whatsApp en gelukkig het die nie bestuur nie anders het sy die ou bakkie gerol... 'n Pragtige half naked fototjie met die mooiste boodskappie. En toe weer en weer en later voel Tannie weer soos die mooiste meisie in dorp. Die chats raak langer die foto's het minder klere aan die koffie by tannie al hoe intressanter. Jannie is 43 jaar jonger as Tannie... Maar ouderdom is mos net 'n nommer en die skelm liefde blom behoorlik. Jannie wil nie meer net kom koffie drink nie hy wil kom oorslaap en liefde maak. Of Tannie enigsins getwyfel het weet Klitsie nie maar die volgende aand het onse Adonis met die mooiste lippe die tannie se wêreld behoorlik gerock... Soveel so toe Tannie die volgende oggend wakker word is Jannie al weg. En sommer met die Tannie se hele sitkamer stel matte en al ook. Tannie dink daar's ingebreek. Jannie antwoord nie en Tannie panic. Jaag met 'n spoed na Jannie se huis toe. En toe skrik Tannie... Jannie en family het soos mis voor die son verdwyn... die huis is leeg. Jannie het tannie 'n aand wat sy nooit sal vergeet nie belowe en sy het dit gekry. Sy moes nooit daai koppie koffie na die tyd gedrink het nie! Tannie te skaam om te deel dat sy met 'n slap (of stywe?) riem ..

Phones his tjommie ‘Ai boet, I’ve got a story to tell you, I just saw a Subaru and Ferrari dicing, neck in neck ek sê, like 300km/h’ Tjommie – ‘Pretty hip ey?’ Dude says to him ‘ That aint the story, there’s a Datsun bakkie right behind them, flashing and hooting, he wants to overtake them china!!!!!’
