House-robbery syndicate linked to Reitz house robbery Among the suspects arrested was a sangoma. Boksburg SAPS stationed Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Trio Task Team members acting on a tip-off have busted a house-robbery syndicate operating from a Freeway Park house. Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko said a team led by Det Const Vernon Booysen and Det Sgt Calvin Mphaphuli, acting on a tip-off, stormed the suspects‟ house in Freeway Park. They discovered valuable goods suspected to be stolen during house robberies in Boksburg and other areas. The goods were being kept in some of the rooms of the residential property and they include expensive electrical appliances and clothing. Upon further investigation, it was established that some of the goods were stolen during a house robbery as far as Reitz in the Free State. The owners have already identified their belongings. The owner of the house, a
61-year-old woman, was placed under arrest. Also during the raid, police found additional suspected stolen goods in the room of a Mozambican man identified as a Sangoma operating in the house. It is alleged that the robbers first consulted with the sangoma before they hit their next target. The sangoma was arrested. “While detectives were still carrying out their investigation on the property, they noticed four more suspicious men entering the house in question driving a Renault Megane. “Upon investigation, it appears as if the men are responsible for the spate of violent crimes in Boksburg and surrounding areas,” said Maseko. According to Maseko, the four men, who live in Tsakani, told the police that they had come to consult the sangoma, before police requested to search them. Thereupon police found three illegal firearms in the suspects‟ possessions.

Bogus inspectors selling labour law posters Department of Labour has learnt of a vehicle with Gauteng province registration numbers moving around the Free State province with its occupants selling labour law posters. These posters are being sold to farmers and, in some instances; the farmers are coerced and intimidated into buying the said posters. What makes matters worse is the fact that these individuals are masquerading as Labour Inspectors as they commit their deeds. We want to make it unequivocally clear that under no circumstances will the Department of Labour sell labour law posters to employers. In fact, any employer can download this information from the Department of Labour website free of charge,” said Nomfundo Douw-Jack – Head of Department of Labour in the Free State. We therefore want to call upon any
employer who might come across these individuals to report them to law enforcement authorities immediately. The Department of Labour together with the South African Police Service are working tirelessly to nail them,” Ms Douw-Jack further said. Free State Agriculture, a farmers association, is also concerned about this unbecoming criminal act and pledged their support to put those involved behind bars. According to the information received, these deceitful individuals are currently in the Xhariep area: Phillipolis, Edenburg, Jagersfontein, Fauresmith and Luckhoff.
