This year, we start our 16th season at the Falany Performing Arts Center and I am excited to share it with you. Our past 15 seasons have been phenomenal, and I am thrilled to continue to be a part of your life by providing Reinhardt and the community the opportunity to experience the performing arts. As we begin this season, I am thankful for the continued support from Reinhardt, our Patrons, and you, our guest.
We have been fortunate to see incredible growth leading us to where we are today, presenting more than 65 performances from the Falany and the School of Performing Arts each season. I am delighted to say that with the Falany and the School of Performing Arts, our guests have the chance to enjoy live performing arts nearly every week of the academic calendar year.
The Falany has had many talented artists grace the stage, including The Manhattan Transfer and The Drifters. Artists are always impressed with the beauty of the Falany, Reinhardt and Waleska. This year, the Falany will be hosting Chanticleer and "Tuesdays with Morrie," starring Jamie Farr, as well as many more exquisite artists. I am confident that you will enjoy each performance you attend this season.

Chanticleer
Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by the New Yorker, the San Francisco-based GRAMMY® Awardwinning ensemble Chanticleer will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2018. Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for its “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” Chanticleer is known around the world as “an orchestra of voices” for its seamless blend of twelve male voices ranging from soprano to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz and popular genres, as well as contemporary composition.
Since Chanticleer began releasing recordings in 1981, the group has sold well over a million albums and won two GRAMMY® awards. THE UNIVERSITY JAZZ ENSEMBLE
The Reinhardt University Chamber Singers is a select choral ensemble under the direction of Dr. Martha Shaw. The group performs as part of the University performing arts series and in churches throughout Georgia. In May 2018, the Chamber Singers will travel to Italy where they have been invited to study music of the Renaissance with the organist of the Vatican, and will perform in that prestigious venue and in other locations in the country. The Reinhardt University Concert Choir, also under the direction of Dr. Martha Shaw, is the largest choir at Reinhardt University. Membership is open to the student body and members of the surrounding community. In 2015, members of the Concert Choir performed Randall Thompson’s Testament of Freedom in Carnegie Hall in New York City. The Concert Choir performs several times yearly at the Falany Performing Arts Center.

THE UNIVERSITY WINDS The Reinhardt University Winds, now under the direction of Dr. Daniel Kirk, is a guest favorite from the School of Performing Arts. With repertoire varying from classic Sousa marches to Broadway Hits, this ensemble offers something for everyone to love. Reinhardt’s Winds has become well-known throughout the nation. Dr. Daniel Kirk is excited to join the Reinhardt University School of Performing Arts Faculty as Director of Instrumental Activities. He earned his Master of Music degree in wind conducting from Northwest University (2015). He recently completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting at Michigan State University where he was actively involved in teaching and assisting all aspects of the band program in the College of Music.

Whether it is music from the 1920s or the 2010s, the Reinhardt University Jazz Ensemble performs music in an authentic way. Featuring a full sized big band, our students will amaze you with virtuosic improvised solos, tight ensemble sounds, and exciting shout choruses. Under the direction of Anton Harris, the jazz ensemble has developed into one of the most visible ensembles at Reinhardt.

UNIVERSITY MUSIC THEATRE The BFA in Musical Theatre is an extremely focused degree concentrating on the major components of musical theatre – acting, singing and dancing. THE UNIVERSITY OPERA The University Opera program develops and prepares students for professional roles in opera. Students must go through demanding training to develop their voices for this career. For the Fall Semester 2017, the Opera program will present its evening of opera in the Ken White Atrium at the Falany Performing Arts Center. This evening is always a sell-out. MEN OF ‘HARDT
Students in the Theatre Program focus their studies on all aspects of theatre production – acting, directing, technical design, and literary analysis. Rigorous rehearsals and intensive training not only prepare these students for careers in the field, but also improves their ability to communicate effectively, to think creatively, and to collaborate well with others. The anticipated Fall show is She Kills Monsters. The anticipated Spring show is The Seagull.*
Men of ‘Hardt is Reinhardt University’s first and only student-led, all-male a capella group. Formed in 2013, the group has nearly doubled in size and grown in popularity. They sing a wide variety of genres including rock, pop, classic hymns and songs of praise. Men of ‘Hardt not only performs at Reinhardt, but also in the community and local schools for outreach and recruitment. Love offerings during these concerts are greatly appreciated and are only used to cover the cost of touring. These concerts are sure to be filled with excitement, laughter, and beautiful harmonies.

THE 'HARDT BREAKERS The 'Hardt Breakers is the first female a cappella group from Reinhardt University and was founded by Laura Sellers and Natalie Beaty in the fall of 2014. The group sings a wide variety of genres including rock, pop, classic hymns and praise songs. They not only perform at Reinhardt but also in the community and local schools for outreach and recruitment. Aaron Gibson
Aaron Gibson developed his love for music when he attempted his first open mic at the suggestion of his father. He earned a business degree and joined the corporate world after graduation, but ultimately chose to pursue his dream of performing. He began working open mics and playing local shows with his bandmates, but his moment finally came through NBC’s The Voice where Aaron was cast as a season 11 contestant. Now having returned home to Atlanta, he has been performing across the country as a singer/songwriter and as front man of the Aaron Gibson Band.

It’s Christmas at the Falany. Our annual Christmas event entertains and allows families to enjoy holiday traditions, including crafts, milk and cookies, and photos with Santa.
Since the year 2000, The Mountain Faith Band has performed their unique brand of Americana / Roots music to audiences from coast to coast at fairs, festivals, colleges, universities, performing arts centers, corporate events, and churches.

A TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF ELVIS PRESLEY, CARL PERKINS, JERRY LEE LEWIS AND JOHNNY CASH Get ready for a night of rockabilly, country, gospel, and pure 1950s rock and roll with “One Night in Memphis” – a high energy concert that takes you back to December 4, 1956, the night when four of the biggest names in early rock and roll came together for an impromptu jam session at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis.

Athens Guitar Duo Whether it is for a large audience in Beijing, China, or an intimate in-home concert for a collection of enthusiasts in Monterrey, California, the Athens Guitar Duo (AG²) is becoming known for leaving a deep impression on the audience with their passionate, meticulous, and masterful artistry. The AG² has performed and taught throughout the United States, Europe, and the People’s Republic of China. They have also been invited to perform for an impressive list of distinguished guests which include former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter; the Pulitzer-Prize winning composer, William Bolcom; Simone Fontanelli of the Mozarteum in Salzburg; and the world-renowned guitarist, Christopher Parkening. The AG²’s explorations into the depth of the guitar repertoire, along with their dedication to producing great performances, will open to new audiences the joys to be found in this music.

Black Market Trust
Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz
The Black Market Trust is an American pop/ vocal jazz band whose current release "Just One of Those Things" combines the sounds of the great American crooners and vocal groups with the romantic Eastern European gypsy fire of jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Consisting of five world-class musicians who have traveled the globe recording and performing on the world’s biggest stages and with music’s most renowned artists, The Black Market Trust capitalize on their experience and pedigree. The band’s lead guitarist, Jeffrey Scott Radaich, gained notoriety for his technical prowess and musicality. He has been touted as one of the most innovative and influential American acoustic gypsy jazz guitarists today. With their first release, the band established themselves as leaders and innovators by combining pop “Brill Building” sensibilities with the traditional sound of Django Reinhardt’s Hot Club of France Quintet.
Hotlanta sets your feet firmly on Bourbon Street in Old New Orleans. You’ll experience every bit of the joy, energy, and humor of that early American Jazz called Dixieland. Songs from Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael, Louie Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, plus many old favorites like “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “Royal Garden Blues,” “South,” “Hard Hearted Hannah,” and “When The Saints Go Marchin’ In” are all part of Hotlanta’s musical treat.

Hotlanta concerts aim to entertain. Their audiences become part of the concert when they do audience requests. From a list in their program, the audience will write down their requests during intermission. These requests are then performed during the concert second half. Audiences always have a great time with this popular Hotlanta feature.

The Olate Dogs It’s Dogfest at the Falany! Not only will you enjoy a show, but you’ll have the chance to adopt a homeless pup and learn about local businesses that cater to your furry friends.

Whether playing a neighborhood cathedral or major concert halls in international cities like New York, Amsterdam or Shanghai, you are assured of a professional, sparkling, and most of all, good humored performance. They genuinely love what they do and you’ll see that shine through in each rendition of beautiful Celtic songs like the haunting Danny Boy and exhilarating classics like Nessun Dorma. More than your average Dog Show, The Olate Dogs will amaze and delight. They were the winning participants from Season 7 of America’s Got Talent, scooping up the $1,000,000 and headlining The Palazzo. Led by Richard Olate and his son Nicholas Olate, the Olate Dogs are a high-energy, fast-paced theatrical act filled with doggie friendly and amazing pet tricks. Richard Olate is from Chile, South America. He is the second youngest in a family of 22 children. Olate's family was very poor but his story is not a sad one. At age 12 he got a dog from the street and discovered a talent for dog training. There are many dogs roaming the streets in Chile, so guess what……? When he had put together a routine, he, with his mother’s help, booked his amateur act at schools and small circuses. He quickly got a regular performance schedule but needed more help, and his older brother joined him. They spent the next few years traveling with different circuses throughout South America, and in 1989 they premiered in the United States. Richard has appeared with his dogs in many television shows, commercials, and a movie. A true testament that no matter where you come from, hard work and determination makes dreams come true.

Jaimee Paul in Concert
Nancy Elton has received critical acclaim for her performances as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician throughout the southeast and many areas of the U.S. Hailed as "...an artist capable of amazing fire and brilliance as well as being possessed of the most graceful sensitivity and delicacy...a dazzling pianist to say the very least" (The State and Columbia Record, Columbia, SC), she maintains an active performing schedule.
Imagine a 1940s jazz club with the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Rosemary Clooney, and others. Jaimee Paul and her jazz combo, led by husband Leif Shires on trumpet, delivers just that. Jamiee Paul in Concert will bring the best of jazz standards to the Falany, featuring this talented performer and jazz combo. In 2006 Jaimee signed a songwriter deal with Warner/Chappell Music, publishing home of many of the Standards on her album. “I can’t wait to see what God has in store for Leif and me. For He has given us a future and a hope; a hope that something will eventually pan out in this silly music industry, if it’s in His will, of course. After all, God is the ultimate creator of great music.”
Some of her concerto repertoire performed with orchestra includes Beethoven's 3rd Piano Concerto, Grieg's Concerto in A minor, Liszt's Concerto in Eb, several performances of Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, and Haydn's Concerto in D Major. Her solo repertoire is wide-ranging, and she has a special interest in performing 20th century piano and vocal works. Solo piano concerts have included a variety of venues across the country including college and university campuses, music festivals, conferences, community concert series, and churches.

The Golden Dragon Acrobats The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent the best of a time honored tradition that began more than twenty-five centuries ago. The reputation of the company is solidly rooted in a commitment to the highest of production values and an attention to artistic details that is unparalleled in the art form. World renowned impresario Danny Chang and choreographer Angela Chang combine award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty.
