Celebrating

15 Years!

I

find it incredible to think that the Falany Performing Arts Center has been part of the life of this community for 15 years. Words cannot express our gratitude for the continued support from Reinhardt, our Patrons, and you, our guest. We look forward to the next 15 years and providing Reinhardt and the community with a comfortable, convenient location to experience the performing arts. We have come a long way since the Falany opened in 2002.

In the beginning, the Falany offered a limited series with quality classical artists. The hallways were not as busy back then, as there were only seven declared music major students to fill the sound in the practice rooms. Now, the School of Performing Arts boasts over 135 declared majors and offers not only training in the field of music, but in theatre and music theatre. The performing arts series has grown as well, now providing the campus and community with over 20 professional shows each season as well as the tremendously popular School of Performing Arts Series. Over the past 15 years, we have seen many popular artists including Doc Severinsen and The Manhattan Transfer grace our stage. Our past seasons have been phenomenal, and our venue has experienced incredible growth due to the quality of artists performing, as well as the support of the Reinhardt family and the community. We hope to continue our growth as we continue into the future, ensuring that the Falany is a beacon for the community to look to for their performing arts entertainment and education. We will continue to strive for perfection and aspire to bring in more first-rate artists each season. We are thrilled that you have chosen to embrace the Falany and the School of Performing Arts, allowing us to bring quality performing arts to the local area. Remaining true to our mission statement, we will continue to present quality fine arts programming at reasonable prices, diverse performing arts programs, and exceptional educational experiences to our guests. We are excited about all of our upcoming performances during this year, including The Drifters (September 9, 2016) and VoicePlay (March 23, 2017). We hope that you will continue to join us at The Falany Performing Arts Center, and we look forward to seeing you at this season’s performances. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your life for the past 15 years. We are grateful to have your support and friendships.

VoicePlay

The Drifters

Based in Orlando, Florida, VoicePlay has performed their own incredible brand of entertainment across the country and around the world. What began quite literally as a street corner barbershop act has now evolved into an internationally acclaimed touring sensation. VoicePlay is unlike any theatrical experience available today, recreating the orchestrated sound of an entire musical production using nothing but the human voice. The cast of VoicePlay has taken the timeless sound of vocal music and turned it completely on its head. Re-imagined as a full stage show, amazing, humorous, and vertigo-inducing harmonies pepper VoicePlay’s music-without-music sound as it ping-pongs between eras and styles, channeling the breadth of the musical landscape and lacing it with inventive and often hilarious on-stage theatrics. Fit for all ages, VoicePlay’s recordings and concerts are impossible to miss, they have to be heard to be believed.

The Drifters: one of Rock & Roll’s founding vocal groups is once again touring the U.S. under the auspices of their original management team. From their inception in the early 1950's until recently, the Drifters have a symbiotic relationship with Rock & Roll legend George Treadwell, who discovered and managed such famous artists as Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn and Nina Simone. The Treadwell Family was there when the original Drifters formed and was responsible for guiding their career through 20 years of uninterrupted hits that have made them the second most successful recording artist of all time, according to Billboard Magazine. Through a historical journey, which included no less than 5 legendary lead singers, including Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Clyde McPhatter and Ben E. King, the group's ongoing story has covered the entire spectrum of Rock & Roll. They were the first musical group to include string instruments into Rhythm & Blues music with their hauntingly beautiful song, "There Goes My Baby". They were the first musical group to sell 2 million records with their pop classic, "Up On The Roof" and they were the first African American vocal group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Along with fellow inductees the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Supremes, the Drifters were in the first class of Rock & Roll legends to be initiated into the Hall of Fame.

Cordis

Classical Series

Cordis has been redefining contemporary chamber music by fusing an original combination of custom-made and traditional ethnic instruments to create their signature sound. Although the ensemble is built upon cello, concert cimbalom, piano, and percussion, one-ofa-kind creations such as the electric mbira, melodica, and the world’s longest playing cylinder-driven music box also have a way of weaving their way into any given performance. In addition to exhilarating audiences in concert, Cordis is also strongly committed to engaging in educational programs that not only bring young audiences into contact with music but also allow them to participate in its creation. While touring, the ensemble takes time whenever possible to conduct master classes as well as more informal programs for students – musicians and non-musicians alike, while developing new concert programs for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Monday, October 3, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. Adult $25–$30 Senior (55+) $20–$25 Child (12 & younger) $10–$15 7

Mark Randisi

Imagine a 1940’s jazz club with the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Rosemary Clooney, and others. Jaimee Paul and her Jazz combo, led by husband Leif Shires on trumpet, delivers just that. “Always and Forever”, a tribute to that wonderful era and those fabulous female vocalists of that time, will certainly take you back to the glory days of yesteryear.

Close your eyes or turn your head. You’ll swear the voice you hear is the original Chairman of the Board, but it’s really the voice of Mark Randisi keeping the classic sound and style of Sinatra alive. What Mark does is an incredible tribute, not a mere imitation. His devotion to the music is apparent, and you’ll be swept up in the emotion he brings to each of his quality performances. Mark has appeared on stage with diverse performers and celebrities such as Ray Charles, James Darrin, Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, Debbie Reynolds, Fabian, Connie Stevens, Rich Little and more. Mark’s entertaining personality, sense of humor and rich voice make him an ideal choice for events of all kinds. People who attend a Mark Randisi concert go away smiling, knowing “The best is yet to come”.

Backed by his band The Stranger, Levittown, NY native Mike Santoro’s fingers flash up and down the keys before he jumps up to grab the mic to belt out such high-energy Billy Joel classics as “Uptown Girl” and “Only the Good Die Young.” For the second half of the roughly three-hour show, Ronnie Smith dons the iconic sunglasses and bedazzled suits of Elton John as he charts his style from the ‘70s to the present. Bittersweet anthems such as “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)” mix with more whimsical material such as “Crocodile Rock” and the fictional rock-group narrative “Bennie and the Jets.” During each engaging, interactive show, both acts aim to channel the spirit of their originals so well that audiences will forget they’re a tribute.
