AT THE

'Hardt OF THE PERFORMING ARTS

To say our 16th season was incredible would be an understatement. While last season was memorable, I know the best is yet to come. I firmly believe our 17th season will be an extraordinary season offered at the Falany Performing Arts Center.

With our growing list of performances in two venues, each of you will find a performance that speaks to you. I am delighted that The Drifters will return to Flint Hall this season. We also have many exciting tribute shows, bluegrass artists, jazz performers and renowned classical musicians. Of course, our Reinhardt University students will showcase their incredible talent in several shows throughout the season.

This year, the new Reinhardt Theater is set to open, continuing the growing vision of Arts Around the Lake. I know my excitement to have the new theater opened is shared by so many. I hope you will attend multiple performances at this new facility as it promises to be a wonderful addition to Reinhardt University.

As we start the 2018-19 season, all of us at the Falany Performing Arts Center and Reinhardt University thank you for your friendship and support. We look forward to seeing you at our first event on Sept. 7 and for many more events through May 2019.

Our past seasons in Flint Hall at the Falany have seen exquisite performances from artists such as Doc Severinsen, The Manhattan Transfer and The Celtic Tenors. I thoroughly enjoy hosting the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra each year, proving to always be one of our best concerts of the season.

The Drifters

One of Rock & Roll’s founding vocal groups is once again touring the U.S. under the auspices of their original management team. From their inception in the early 1950s and up until recently, the Drifters has a symbiotic relationship with Rock & Roll legend George Treadwell, who discovered and managed such famous artists as Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn and Nina Simone. The Treadwell Family was there when the original Drifters formed and was responsible for guiding their career through 20 years of uninterrupted

hits that has made them the second most successful recording artists of all time, according to Billboard magazine. They were the first musical group to include string instruments into R&B with “There Goes My Baby.” They were the first musical group to sell 2 million records with their pop classic, “Up On The Roof.” They were among the first African-American vocal groups to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with fellow inductees the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Supremes.

Tribute to the King: Gospel & Hits FEATURING TRAVIS LEDOYT

Travis LeDoyt has been called “World’s Best Young Elvis,” and there are five good reasons why. He looks like Elvis. He sings like Elvis. He moves like Elvis. His personality and mannerisms both on and off stage are strikingly similar to Elvis. And, he sells out nearly every show. To those people who think they have seen it all when it comes to Elvis tribute acts, this is the one that makes them do a double take. There is simply no way to describe Travis and his performance except unbelievable. Travis flawlessly captures the essence of Elvis in his prime, and restricts his shows to the hits and ambience of 1954-1964. Utilizing a three-piece band featuring guitar, bass and drums (augmented with backing tracks for songs that require extra orchestration), Travis takes his audience back to the fun and excitement of an early 1960s Elvis concert. For those who missed seeing an Elvis concert during those years, it is a chance to relive the excitement.

Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, 3 p.m. Adults: $35-$40, Seniors: $30-$35, Children: $10-$15 7

Balsam Range

Balsam Range, a group of five outstanding acoustic musicians and singers from North Carolina, will make for an enjoyable concert of bluegrass music. Tim Surrett delivers entertaining performance as the seasoned lead, also performing on bass and occasionally on resonator guitar. Buddy Melton is one of the most gifted tenor voices in bluegrass and Americana today. His range and tones largely give Balsam Range its identifying sound, and his stellar fiddle playing supports the band’s programs equally. Caleb Smith has been called “one of the top young guns of guitar.” His envied unique guitar style pairs perfectly with his energetic power singing. Darren Nicholson is one of the most gifted mandolin players and harmony singers ever to come from the Southern Mountains. Nicholson's studied, energetic performances rival those of the classic old guard performers, and his enthusiasm for American heritage music styles has no bounds. Pruett plays traditional three finger banjo in intuitive and powerful ways that blend and complement the influences in the band of jazz and bluegrass, country and gospel, and swing and old-time. He adds a credible entertainment experience of over 40 years to this fresh, unique Southern band, Balsam Range.
