AUTUMN CAFE

On the land where I live we have a great guy who we call ‘The Gardener’ who changes the sim every season and this autumn I was excited when he asked if I would like to participate by decorating the local cafe.

I haven’t decorated a cafe for a long time, so part of the fun of doing this one was discovering new places to get furniture and decor. I also spent a bit of time visiting other cafes in SL to get ideas. The fact that I would stop in each one to enjoy the ambiance and a coffee meant that my research took me a lot longer than expected, but it was very enjoyable!

The building itself was already set up on the land and, although I had no choice in it, is actually perfect for the cafe design that I wanted. It is Apple Fall’s Country Hall and is an older build from 2016, which just shows that some items in your inventory truly stand the test of time and are worth some space to keep!

PHOTOS: ARYA BRAVEHEART

The cafe is split into two distinct decorating areas: the counter area and the dining area. I began with the hub of the cafe which included the counters, food, and business area. I trialled so many items in this area before I went scouting about and came across this ROIRO - SATEN cafe set. It is a mega pack of items and was just right for what I had in mind. I also items from this set in the dining area, which created a nice flow-through effect.

My favourite part of setting up this area is adding all of the food items and this made me realise just how many delicious things I have tucked away in my inventory. Again, I was able to use a mixture of old and new items to create a patisserie look and a cafe that would definitely entice me in!

I wanted to create a dining area for this cafe that included places to relax and enjoy a coffee and a pastry as well as tables for sitting to partake in a more substantial meal. The CHEZ MOI Tashi Cafe Set was just right to provide some class and comfort, and the fact that this set comes with a hud made it easier to choose the right chair texture for the look I was going for.

The rest of the items were added to make this area look as cosy and welcoming as possible to entice customers to stick around and drink another coffee and more goodies from the cabinets. I wanted to add a woodstove to the look, but I kept worrying about people touching it. RL creeps into my SL thinking at times!

Before I took the photos today, I also added in some October items with a taste of autumn and Halloween throughout. That meant changing the food in the cabinets and displaying some bits and pieces to suit the needs of the fall customers too. It also made me very hungry!

You are welcome to come and look at the cafe for yourself as it is all set up on our land for a while yet. It may get spookier as the month continues, but if you need a coffee and a pastry, come and enjoy a seat in this cosy cafe.

LIFE IN THE ALGORITHM

OR HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE ERA OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Afew months ago, I realized that I hadn’t heard from my good friend Missy Buttons in several weeks.I didn’t know whether I should be worried. Given her volatile temperament, she might have been grounded by her mother, which would explain why I hadn’t seen her lately in our usual hangouts. But that wouldn’t explain her silence or her lack of response to several messages I had texted her.

It wasn’t the first time Missy had disappeared from my radar. Last year, she had spent two months in a spiritual retreat, trying to “find herself” - or so she said after she reappeared in a state you could hardly define as “spiritual.” But when Aaron texted me to ask if I had any news about her and told me she had dumped him, I saw that as a big red flag. He was, by the way, the closest thing to a boyfriend Missy had ever had.

Missy didn’t look happy when she opened the door and saw me standing there.

“Oh— it's you,” she said curtly. “What’s up?”

“That’s what I want to know. I haven’t heard from you in weeks. Are you OK? Aaron told me you dumped him. What’s the problem?”

“First off, I didn’t dump him; we’ve never been an item.”

“Well, you haven’t called him either, so I thought that—” I stopped, noticing she was nervously looking back into her living room. “Is something the matter? Are you in trouble?” I asked, now with real concern for her well-being.

“I’m fine, I promise. It’s just that I’m on vacation from work and decided to stay home. That’s it.”

“Look, I just wanted to make sure you’re OK. We haven’t seen you in weeks and were wondering what’s going on.”

While I was talking, she took her phone out of her jeans pocket and started clicking and scrolling. Stretching my neck, I could see behind her that her laptop was open.

“Are you working now? I thought you said you were on vacation.”

“No, I’m not working; I’m just doing some stuff…”

“Are you checking your Instagram as we speak?” I asked, baffled by the rudeness of my friend.

“Yes! And I just got a like!” she replied, enthused. “Look!” she continued, holding her iPhone in front of me. Not only did she have only seven likes, but I also noticed she had a small following.

“Seventeen followers are worth ditching your friends?” I asked, with a mix of rage and disappointment.

“I didn’t ditch you, dear. I’ve just been busy cultivating my online footprint,” she replied.

PHOTOS: COCO ST. GEORGE

“Besides, I have thirteen more followers on Twitter and six more on Facebook.”

I didn’t know what to say about those meager numbers, so she continued.

“And I’m also on TikTok, Snapchat, Primfeed, YouTube, WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, QQ, Threads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit, Tumblr, Discord, BeReal, Mastodon, Truth Social, Bluesky, Koo, Parler, Gab, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Line, Signal, Clubhouse, MySpace, Hi5, Tagged, Orkut, Friendster, Flickr, DeviantArt, Mixi, Sina Weibo, Douyin, Rumble, Twitch, Kick, Caffeine, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Meetup, Nextdoor, Amino, Gaia Online, Weibo, Renren, Badoo, Twoo, Netlog, Zoosk, Habbo, IMVU, and BlackPlanet. I haven’t done the math yet, but I have maybe some 500 followers in total.”

“You must be online 24/7 to post on all those social media,” I assumed.

“Oh no—not 24… maybe only 16 or 18 hours a day,” she explained. “But now you can understand why I haven’t been out lately.”

“Oh my God! That’s a lot of time. That can’t be normal… forget normal, that’s not healthy!”

“That’s nothing to worry about, dear; it’s quite normal,” she retorted. “The French even have a word for it—‘dépendance,’ I think.”

“The French! Since when have the French set the standard for normalcy?”

I clearly saw her struggling to find an answer to that, but I wasn’t prepared for what happened next: Missy burst into tears and ran back to her bedroom. She was able to talk only after she had pulled herself together.

“I know I have this problem,… this addiction, but I can’t help it. The moment I wake up, I feel the urge to check my social media. I can’t explain the thrill it is to see how many likes my posts get, but…” she paused. “I know it’s inconsequential, and yet it’s as if it fills a void, you know? It gives me a sense of fulfillment I can’t get from anything else.”

I realized she was being vulnerable, but I struggled to find an appropriate answer. What could I say that didn’t come off as callous?

“Maybe you should seek help… professional help, I mean.”

“You are right; I can’t deal with this on my own. What would you suggest?”

“A support group, I guess.”

I left her home with that warm feeling of having done a good thing— you know, the feeling you get when you’ve helped someone. I kept thinking that the world would be a wonderful place if everyone behaved like that: did right by others, treated them with respect, and considered their feelings before opening their mouths.

But after a few days, I noticed that Missy still wasn’t anywhere to be seen. I asked around in her usual hangouts, but none of her friends had seen her either. The disturbing idea that she might have relapsed into her online addiction haunted me as I headed to her home.

When I peeked through an open window, I found her sitting in front of her laptop, just as I feared. I knocked furiously at her door until she opened it with a bewildered look on her face.

“Hey! What’s going on? Is something wrong?” she asked.

“You tell me,” I retorted. “You were supposed to look for help for your online addiction, and here you are, chained again to your laptop!”

“And that’s what I did, dear,” she replied. “Look, come and see.”

She grabbed my hand and led me to her living room to show me her laptop screen.

“I found a great support group on fightaddiction.com, and we are in session right now,” she said, smiling at the camera of a Zoom meeting. “Say hello to my new friends. We convene here every day, talking for hours about ways to fight our addiction. Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s my turn to share. Please lock the door on your way out.”

AUTHENTICITY IN EVERY DETAIL: SCAMLIKELY LOS

GLOCKMENACE BUILDS BEYOND THE ORDINARY

With his unique eye, hypebeast fusion, and award-winning designs, Los creates interiors that feel like worlds of their own —proving he’s in a lane nobody else can touch.

ScamLikely Los GlockMenace has quickly made a name for himself as one of Second Life’s rising talents in interior design and décor. As the founder and creative mind behind ParcelX, he specializes in custom pre-decorated homes and skyboxes, each one crafted with a unique identity you can’t find anywhere else. His work is known for blending high-fashion sensibilities with bold interior visions, resulting in spaces that feel both aspirational and deeply personal.

“I’ve always had an eye for décor and interior design,” he says. “As a kid, I used to build forts and treehouses. I even painted my own room at 13. I loved watching home improvement and renovation shows—it was just something that stuck with me.”

From Fashion to Décor

Before creating immersive homes, Los started his creative journey with fashion. “I definitely started with fashion first,” he explains. “I used to draw clothes all the time, then I shortly fell in love with décor as well.” That early curiosity laid the groundwork for the versatile creative he is today.

His dual passions continue to influence one another. “My fashion influences my interior design. The use of certain colors and patterns in my clothes shows up in my spaces. Sometimes I’ll even dress my avatar to match the vibe of what I’m decorating. It helps me get into the groove.”

A Signature Style

When asked how he would describe his aesthetic, Los doesn’t hesitate: “I’m versatile for sure. I pride myself on doing it all, so I’m not limited when asked to do custom work. But if I had to define it? I’d say it’s a fusion of modern contemporary, plus hypebeast meets luxury.”

That crossover is evident in both his décor and wardrobe. “I like streetwear and designer looks,” he adds, noting how fashion is not only a creative outlet but a mood-setter. “Clothing can serve as a nonverbal tool for communicating who I am. I’ll wear darker colors when I’m feeling introverted and bright colors to boost my spirits on a down day.”

Designing for Healing

Beyond aesthetics, Los believes design in Second Life serves a much deeper purpose. “We go through so much in real life already, and not all of us are fortunate enough to buy the beautiful furniture or spaces we want offline. That’s what makes Second Life so healing and fun—you can create whatever world you want around you.”

That philosophy extends to how he wants people to feel when they walk into his spaces. “I want them to feel replenished. I want them to feel like they could live there and absorb the positive energy.”

Inspirations & Collaborations

While he hasn’t yet collaborated with other stylists, Los is open to the idea. “I’d love to collab and share ideas with other talented decorators,” he says. He also credits several creators who inspire his work: “8ight is an amazing talent, Fancy Decor is an OG

on the grid, Artsy and Twelve are true visionaries— and of course my mother, Yaboos, who is my biggest inspiration overall.”

Favorite Projects

When it comes to his portfolio, one project stands out the most: a family vacation home he built and landscaped in Norway. “It was created out of love for my wife and our family,” he recalls. “The modern design, the dark tones. It’s one of my favorite builds because of the meaning behind it.”

Advice for New Designers

For anyone hoping to follow in his footsteps, Los offers grounded advice: “Have patience with yourself. Don’t be afraid to step outside of the box, and practice your craft until you find and validate your niche.”

The Designer at Work

When Los is designing, he says the most authentic version of himself comes alive. “The fun, carefree version of me shows up. I’m in my zone, vibing, playing music, and doing what I love.”

Through ParcelX, ScamLikely Los GlockMenace continues to shape environments that are not just visually stunning but emotionally restorative; spaces that tell stories, reflect fashion, and spark imagination in every corner.

Direct Quotes:

Can you tell us a bit about your journey—what brought you into interior decorating in Second Life?

I have always had a eye for decor and interior design , I use to build forts and treehouses as a child , I painted my own my own room at 13, I always loved to watch home improvement, home renovation or remodeling shows.

Did you start with decor or fashion first—or have both always been part of your creative identity?

I definitely started with fashion first I used to draw clothes a lot then, I shortly fell in love with decor as well.

How would you describe your signature style, both in interiors and fashion?

I’m versatile for sure, I pride myself in doing it all so I’m not limited when I’m asked to do custom work. I will say my signature in interiors is more a fusion of modern contemporary, plus hype-beast meets luxury. My fashion is contemporary and hype-beast, I like street wear and designer looks.

How do you see fashion and decor influencing each other in your work?

My fashion influences my interior design. For instance the use of certain colors and patterns appearing in my home, specific accessories and other

styles are based on occasion such as, business casual or personal expression like artsy hype beast fashion.

Do you ever dress your avatar to match the vibe of the space you’re designing?

Yes when I have the time I will change to get in the groove of decorating and styling

What’s more expressive for you—what you wear or what you build? Or do they serve different emotional needs?

Clothing can serve as a nonverbal tool for communicating who I am. I will wear darker colors when I’m feeling like an introvert and I will wear bright colors to boost my mood and spirits on a down day.

Why is creating beautiful spaces important to you in Second Life?

It’s important because we go through so much in real life already and some of us are not as fortunate to just go buy beautiful panels and furniture to create the space we want in real life and that’s what makes second life so healing and fun for me because you can create whatever world you want around you

What do you hope people feel when they walk into one of your decorated rooms?

I want them to feel replenished, I want them to feel like they want to live in that space and feel positive energy

Do you ever collaborate with other stylists or designers to build a full scene/look?

I have not yet but I am open to it I would love to Collab and share ideas with other talented decorators !!

What does it feel like to be photographed in a space you’ve created? Does it change the way you see your own work?

Honestly, I’m very introverted and reserved and, I’m also my biggest critic so i will find every flaw in my own space

How do you think interior design contributes to the culture of Second Life overall?

Interior design contributes to SL not only in a visual way but also because it pushes the demand for more decor items. I remember a time in SL when I could count the number of creators on one hand where you could buy good quality furniture and decor.

What’s your favorite project or room you’ve ever done—and why?

Its so many but, I really love my family vacation home I built and landscaped in Norway because it was created out of love for my wife and our family plus, the use of the modern, dark tones.

Are there any creators, brands, or influencers in SL whose work pushes you to create more?

There’s so many talented creators who really inspire me like 8ight--an amazing talent, Fancy Decor--an OG on the grid, Artsy and Twelve who are real visionary creators, and my mother Yaboos, who is my biggest overall inspiration.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting to explore design in SL, what would it be?

Have patience with yourself. Don’t be afraid to step outside of the box and practice your craft to narrow down and validate your niche.

How would you describe the version of you that shows up when you’re designing?

The fun care free version of me shows up because, I’m in my zone vibing, playing music, and doing what I love!!

LIVIN’ IN THE WILD WILD WEST ROCK YOUR RACK 2025

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, breast cancer is one of the leading health crises for women. 13% of women, and an ever- increasing percentage of men, will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. There is currently no known cure for breast cancer, and its early diagnosis is critical to survival. Therefore, it’s critical that early detection must be an option for everyone.

Rock Your Rack, the annual charity event supporting the work of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, is here in Second Life once again for it’s 13th season with the theme “Livin’ in the Wild Wild West”. This event is all about raising funds for early detection services for all in need. The founder of Rock Your Rack is Jamee Sandalwood, and she knows the importance of early detection., as she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at the age of 38, before breast cancer screening is covered for women in the US. Most insurance carriers only cover it under the age of 40 if there is a known family history, which Jamee didn’t have.

Since she was fortunate enough to have a fantastic health team that diagnosed and treated her quickly, she feels that her mission now is to provide the same opportunities to those who otherwise would not have many options. Every year, her labor of love, Rock Your Rack, runs 10 days in late September or early October with the participation of designers, musicians, dancers, models, artists, and more all giving of their time and talents for this great cause. Last year, they donated over $8,000 USD to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

This year’s event opened on Friday, September 26th, and will close on Sunday, October 5th. There are over 60 designer booths, each with a limited- edition item, an exclusive event item, and a 10L hunt item, plus other items of the designers’ choice. The event features not only women’s fashion, but also home fashions, menswear, kids fashion, poses, gadgets,

and more. There is something for everyone in the old west shopping areas that are the 1800’s wild west theme this year.

Entertainment this year includes tribute concerts, live musicians, DJ Dance parties, wrestling exhibits and TerpsiCorps Artwerks with two fantastic dance performances. Complete listings can be found at the event, or on the website http://rockyourrack.org. There are even four fashion shows featuring not only exclusive items, but additionally for two of the shows, the models will shop the event themselves and put together looks from available items available at the event at their own expense to show everyone how to shop the event. These model’s choice fashion shows are always a big hit.

The sim sponsor for this year’s event is Playdolls Magazine and Mansion. Other sponsors for 2025 are: BOSLArts, Best of SL Magazine, Chef’s House, Dark Star Radio, Kultivate Arts, Giano Properties, XRadio, Perverts of the Caribbean, Cobalt Island, Classy N Sassy, and Wic Foods. They have a complete host of media partners to help get the word out as well, including ModeLS Magazine, The Biology Club, Grid Affairs, Media SL, Seraphim SL, Hostcrate, The SL Enquirer, Eyewitness Inworld News, Provocateur Magazine, SL Educate Record Social Magazine, and Sugar.

We hope that you will come and explore the sim. There are lots of fun places to sit and relax throughout the sim, an amazing art show with 36 artists, wonderful photo opportunities for bloggers and photographers alike, a full food court by Wic Foods that even serves food for MyStory and Xeolife, and much, much more. You can even book a relaxing vacation away at one of our the Resort

and Role Play Partners who have booths at the event! So much can be done and seen this year, and we hope you will spend lots of time there to support the cause. Be sure to check out a concert on the main concert stage while you are there. It’s the best stage and light show on the grid, designed and built by the amazing Brad Tylman. The sim was built and decorated by Jamee Sandalwood herself with the assistance of Isobel Belfire.

Jamee is very humble and doesn’t like to get all the credit for all the work that goes into this event every year. She just hopes that people will come, enjoy the event, the sim, the fun and, if they can, support the work of the National Breast Cancer Foundation by donating into one of the donation kiosks around the sim, purchasing items from the vendors at the event, or by donating to the RL portal they have on their website. Together, we can make a difference.

BOSL Arts FLUER HEARTSDALE ICE’S REVERIES

BOSL Arts

NOW THROUGH OCTOBER 18, 2025

For most of a life, photography was a simple record of life, a way to capture a vacation memory. This changed upon inheriting an Olympus film camera. While working at a university, enrollment in an MFA program in Digital Imaging, where a course on manual cameras and darkroom techniques sparked a deeper creative pursuit. This led to digital photography and, ultimately, a fascination with the macro lens. Retirement from the university coincided with the completion of an MFA from Governors State University, allowing full commitment to art. The work is an intimate exploration of the unseen, a focus on the hidden beauty of common objects revealed through the macro lens. Current work is an ode to ice—the everyday frozen water. Photographs capture its intricate, fleeting patterns, searching for a hint of the message the water molecules might hold. Through the lens, the goal is to capture and bring this quiet wonder to life for the viewer.
