Peter Rhian’s journey into the world of art took an unexpected turn. While he had always loved expressing himself through cartoons and drawings, he never planned to become an artist. As he grew up, his love for art intensified, but he did not expect it to become his life’s calling. Initially, Peter was set on the intention of becoming a graphic designer. While in university, Peter’s interest in art continued to grow. It was during this time that he embarked on creating his first-ever artwork, Redmiller Blood. This piece, which would become a representation of humanity itself, marked a pivotal moment in his artistic journey. Redmiller Blood encapsulates the essence of humans and individuals in relation to the vast universe.

The character Redmiller Blood delves into the complexities of the human experience by looking around Peter Rhian’s surroundings including his family, his students, and even himself. Through the use of symbolism, Peter employs an icon that has red hair and is built with a small and friendly frame. Redmiller itself represents humans in our features and many psychological aspects. Those who are perceived as brave, lovable, and accepted by society are also struggling internally. Redmiller Blood is actually a reflection of Peter himself and many of us, which is in fact, deep inside, extremely fragile, in denial, insecure and sometimes feel rejected. However the eyes of Redmiller are what he calls rainbow tears —a representation of teary eyes that have the colors of a rainbow— to convey the notion of our mental health being all over the place and as a reminder that as long as we keep our hope and faith in ourselves while struggling through the worst of times, eventually all problems will have a beautiful ending.
Additionally, the pout-shaped mouth serves as a metaphor for the daily existence of humans, highlighting the delicate balance between happiness, sadness, and a myriad of other emotions.
Peter’s artistic process is characterized by extensive research, involving thorough exploration of online media and social constructs. Each painting undergoes numerous sketches, sometimes reaching hundreds, as he strives to achieve the desired flow and visual aesthetic.

Redmiller Blood holds a special place in Peter Rhian’s artistic repertoire. It has become his icon, embodying his spirit for the human universe. The artwork represents the unique persona present within each person, which Peter has poured into Redmiller Blood. Over 5 years of research and dedication were invested in the creation of this remarkable piece, exemplifying his passion for his craft.
In Redmiller Blood, Peter aims to instill hope and resilience by emphasizing the importance of holding onto dreams. He portrays the different stages of human life, presenting a visual narrative that resonates with viewers. Each stage represents a unique chapter in the human journey, encompassing various emotions and experiences.
Peter Rhian’s artwork is grounded in reality, drawing inspiration from real events and the lives of the public. His aim is to create pieces that resonate with his audience, forging a connection through shared experiences. However, translating these ideas into tangible artwork can be challenging, and Peter often finds himself grappling with the process of bringing his concepts to life.
One of Peter Rhian’s most meaningful artworks is the Redmiller Ballerina. This poignant piece portrays a short ballerina surrounded by taller ones, symbolizing the challenges of fitting in and being accepted. It serves as a representation of how humans often find themselves having to adjust to their surroundings and still struggle to feel fully accepted.

Another is, “Flight of the Bumblebee ‘’ which features Redmiller Blood in a dance, adorned in a bee costume, amidst a backdrop of flowers. The flowers symbolize society’s tendency to ridicule those who step out of their comfort zones and explore new endeavors. This piece serves as a powerful reminder that whenever one attempts something new, there will always be individuals ready to knock them down or laugh at their efforts.

Peter’s talent has propelled him beyond the borders of Bandung. His artwork has been showcased in numerous exhibitions across the globe, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Korea, Australia, Madrid, New York, Jakarta, and Singapore. Of these, the Jakarta exhibition holds a special place in his heart. Peter had the opportunity to interact with the audience and receive valuable input. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, he was unable to attend the other exhibitions, but he cherishes the connections made in Jakarta.
Peter Rhian has become a part of Cross Studio Asia as an official artist. This affiliation allows him to actively engage in projects across Asia, expanding his reach and influence within the art community. Peter’s involvement in these endeavors further solidifies his position as a dynamic and influential artist with a growing presence throughout the region.
His advice to aspiring young artists include encouraging them to find their own voice in art and create artwork that resonates with the public. He feels inspiration can be drawn from the world around them, allowing them to develop their art further. Peter believes in the importance of relatability and connection, as these elements foster engagement with the audience.
Looking ahead to June 2023, Rhian has an exciting project on the horizon—the Redmiller Neon Experience in Braga, Bandung. This immersive journey will explore the stages of human life, showcasing his artistic vision in a unique and captivating way.
