Art takes center stage with a spotlight on the exquisite creations by the talented artist, (late) Mr. Made Wianta, whose long archived work graces the walls of Art Moments 2023 Jakarta, captivating audiences with its depth and beauty.

A pivotal story is our very own The Registry, in partnership with The Westin Jakarta and Marriott Worldwide Business Councils Indonesia. A solo art exhibition by Sidik W. Martowidjojo, along with a closed charity auction aimed at preserving Indonesia’s rivers under the theme “Mengalir Membawa Cinta” was held where over 30 artworks were showcased at The Westin Jakarta, Sky Lounge Lobby on the 52nd floor from August 3rd to August 22nd. With a closed auction during the exhibition, Sidik, a maestro of two gold medals at the Louvre International Arts exhibition in Paris, also featured naturethemed pieces. The proceeds of the closed auction and fundraising event which featured the Marriott Bonvoy Moments event as well as an Afternoon Soiree took place on the 22nd of August hosted by Lucye Kwee, Christina Fransisca Tan, and Andi Oktaparisi, was entirely donated to support the youth activities of Sungai Watch.

MRS. INTAN WIANTA

Harmonizing Art and Love

COVER STORY
Kimono Dress by BIASA Jewellery by Tulola

In the intricate tapestry of artistic brilliance woven by Made Wianta, one especially inspiring figure stands illuminated, casting a spotlight on the heart and soul that powered the maestro’s extraordinary journey. Intan Wianta, a descendant of Indonesian royalty and granddaughter of Ki Hajar Dewantara, education stalwart and former Minister of Education, emerges as the nurturing force that emboldened Wianta’s artistic pursuits and enriched his creative landscape. The couple’s story is one that intertwines two diverse artistic passions, woven into an enchanting synergy that transcends time and genre.

Made Wianta was a prominent painter renowned for his significant contributions to modern art. He earned his first degree at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta and in 1976 pursued studies in European art in Brussels, immersing himself in a scene filled with art galleries and museums. Wianta quickly gained international recognition through exhibitions in major cities like New York, Paris, and Tokyo, the highlight being his participation in the 2003 Venice Biennale. He was recognised for his intellectual depth, drawing from his readings in philosophy, particularly Buddhist and Nietzschean Nihilism, all of which helped shape his artistic philosophy. The Neka Museum in Ubud, Bali, is proudly hosting a collection of Made Wianta’s creations, further solidifying his artistic legacy.

Celebrated for his cultural contributions, receiving such honours as the Dharma Kusuma and Bali Mandara Parama Nugraha awards, Wianta was recognised as ‘The Most Admired Man of the Decade’ by the American Biographical Institute in 1997.

His artistic love affair with Intan began amidst the vibrant rhythms of Bali. In the dance of life they found their rhythm, with Intan mastering

the enchanting Balinese dance while Wianta delved into the intricate world of gamelan music. However, their artistic connection was not confined to their respective realms; their shared love for art spanned continents and genres. As Wianta delved into western art, Intan was a dedicated co-learner, absorbing the nuances of art from the likes of Salvador Dali, Seurat, and Picasso. Their artistic tandem found its root in an unspoken understanding that artistic growth knows no boundaries.

The story of the artistic symbiosis enjoyed by the couple deepened when Wianta’s admiration for Salvador Dali led them to traverse surrealism and symbolism. Born from the cultural richness of Indonesia, their collaborative vision was to fuse Indonesian symbolism with surrealist aesthetics, creating a tapestry of artistic expression that reverberated with a sense of belonging.

But theirs was not a story confined to canvas and studio; their unwavering partnership extended into every facet of life. Intan’s passion for agriculture and gardening resonated with Wianta’s creative journey, illuminating the parallels between nurturing life - be it in gardens or on canvas. Their conversations flowed like a steady stream, nurturing each other’s dreams and passions, propelling them towards shared horizons.

Intan’s lineage, intertwined with the legacy of Ki Hajar Dewantara, initially seemed incongruous to Wianta’s artistic aspirations. Yet, as the threads of their lives unravelled, the intricate connections between their childhoods, values and aspirations, soon became evident. Like the strokes of a masterful painting, their life stories converged in a harmonious symphony of shared purpose.

While Wianta pursued his artistic calling in Europe, his wife’s unwavering support buoyed his ambitions. Their shared museum outings

transformed into an international vision, catalysing the global journey of Wianta’s artworks. In the face of adversity, Intan’s grace shone as she bravely represented Wianta at exhibitions, carving her place as a cornerstone of his artistic narrative.

Wianta’s art career saw no fewer than nine stylistic periods, namely the karangasem, dot period, rectangles, triangles, assemblies, calligraphy, calendars, happening arts/ installations and mixed media.

Wianta was known to produce work that conformed in a general sense to periodisation, and this is one of the reasons why he is often thought of as one of Indonesia’s ‘Picassos’. In a special interview with French art curator Jean Couteau, Paloma Picasso admitted that Wianta could indeed be compared to her father in terms of his thinking, his madness, and also his creative productivity. The works of these two artists were similarly forward-thinking and prescient.

The artistic journey followed by Wianta and Intan unveiled its most profound chapter through the lens of Indonesian culture. Intan’s seamless embrace of Javanese and Balinese cultures exemplified her versatility, while her husband’s unyielding support eased the intricacies of cultural adaptation. Her pursuit of gardening blended seamlessly with his own artistic exploration, inspiring a mutual evolution that extended seamlessly from canvas to flower bed.

Together the couple ignited the flame of creativity in younger generations, fostering an environment of exchange and learning. Wianta’s open-door policy meant that budding artists would often visit his studio, nurturing their growth just as he had been nurtured before them.

Wianta’s indomitable spirit resonated deeply with Intan’s pursuit of enhancing the natural world, and the pair embarked on a shared journey that was to leave a lasting impact. His restless nights were matched by her meticulous preparations, a testament to the devotion underpinning their shared legacy.

In their shared dream of preservation, the couple envisioned a personalised museum, a digital archive, and timeless documentation. These legacies would encapsulate not just Wianta’s artwork but the essence of their partnership, guaranteeing that their story might resonate through generations to come.

Intan Wianta emerges as the silent muse, the steadfast supporter, and the unwavering force that guided her Wianta’s artistic odyssey. As the pages of history turn, their love story remains an inspiring testament to the notion that behind the success of a maestro, there stands an extraordinary woman, who, with grace and determination, nurtured his artistic soul.

CARTIER Le Voyage Recommencé

As their quest for beauty is boundless and their open-mindedness limitless, Cartier craftsmen and designers approach creation with a perpetual momentum. What guides them? For each new collection, their expert knowledge, forged by curiosity, puts them at the forefront of a new beginning, an infinitely renewed impetus that allows them to journey into the heart of Cartier style as if for the very first time.

Cartier’s High Jewellery collection, Le Voyage Recommencé is being launched with more than 80 never-before-seen piece: an inspirational journey through which the Maison’s fundamentals are approached from a new, unexpected angle. A productive exploration of the Maison’s savoir-faire and creative practices experienced through the light of a new prism. Designing precious works of architecture, expanding the possibilities of lines and the abstract, reinventing the palette of chromatic harmonies; celebrating life and the world’s cultural horizons: the Maison’s stylistic domains are approached with the same freedom — and taken even further.

Everything at Cartier revolves around the purity of lines, the balance of shapes and volumes, the play of proportions and the final harmony of the entire piece. A strong vision that presides when structures of light are born. Precious geometry and contrast are two elements that make up the Cartier style. On the one hand, they are based on form and pattern, developed around symmetry or asymmetry, and on the other, the strength of contrasts. There is nothing romantic or sweet when it comes to Cartier’s representation of nature, a creative tension that ranges from hyper-realism to stylisation and even abstraction. This taste for curiosity is the legacy of a long lineage that is more contemporary than ever.

26 REGISTRY INDONESIA | JEWELLERY

Furthermore, Maison Cartier is constantly striving to improve its traditions of excellence and broaden its ethical, environmental and social practices and commitments. In this regard, through the Coloured Gemstones Working Group and Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) the Maison encourages the development of best practices and the application of rigorously controlled internal quality standards throughout the industry, to continuously improve. Driven by the

common belief that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the dream of being a responsible industry can only be reached through collaborative initiatives, Cartier, supported by Richemont and Kering, in partnership with the RJC, have teamed up to expand and consolidate their efforts by launching the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, which aims to develop a sustainable, conservative, inclusive, climate-resilient industry.

JAEGER-LECOULTTRE

Diamond-Set Dialed Rendez-Vous Dazzling Night & Day

Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces two sparkling new expressions of the Rendez-Vous Dazzling Night & Day. The new timepieces elevate the concept into the realm of High Jewelry with a fully diamond-set dial for the first time, complementing the dual diamond circles that form the bezel – the RendezVous Dazzling signature.

Grain-set diamonds in concentric circles are featured that radiate outwards from the dial center. The pattern’s symmetry, created with hundreds of stones anchored by tiny, almost invisible gold beads, is testament to the precise skill of the gem-setters in

the Métiers Rares™ workshop. With 590 diamonds, the dial and case represent 58 hours of meticulous gem-setting work.

The new timepieces are presented with the option of a shiny alligator strap in vivid red that contrasts with the stones’ sparkle, or a High Jewellery pink gold bracelet. Initially designed for the Rendez-Vous Dazzling Shooting Star in 2022, the bracelet consists of lozengeshaped links, joined seamlessly together like a supple ribbon to wrap around the wrist. Representing an additional 80 hours of gem-setting, the links are grain-set with 436 diamonds;

34 REGISTRY INDONESIA | TIMEPIECES

this brings the total number for this High Jewelry option to 1,026.

Among the many watchmaking complications created for Rendez-Vous, the Night & Day mechanism distils the 24-hour cycle into a captivating display on the wrist. Set on a mother-of-pearl disc that rotates as day turns to night, a polished golden sun alternates with a crescent moon set on a starry background.

Within the 36mm case, Calibre 898 is an automatic mechanical movement that was designed, developed and produced in-house. The transparent sapphire case-back reveals fine decoration and finishing in classical watchmaking style: blued screws, circular graining, Côtes de Genève and the open-worked pink gold winding rotor.

The Rendez-Vous Dazzling collection, introduced in 2019, marries this high watchmaking expertise to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s jewellery savoir-faire. The bezel is set with 108 diamonds arranged in two concentric rings – the airy quality of these glittering circles being due to the claw (or ‘griffe’) setting chosen for the outer ring of 36 stones. To complete the case, an inverted diamond is set into the winding crown and three diamonds are set on each of the four lugs.

As an ode to contemporary femininity, the new Rendez-Vous Dazzling Night & Day with diamondset dials reaffirm the watchmaking savoir-faire and jewellery expertise that La Grande Maison has cultivated with passion for 190 years.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

Autumn Winter 2023

“Human anatomy, the anatomy of clothing, the anatomy of flowers. An exploration of beauty and power through tailoring and tailoring fabrics and a focus on cut, proportion and silhouette. The foundations of fashion, cut on the body and inspired by the body within. The classic subverted: turned inside out and upside down. Volume is neat – strict – or exploded. Garments are dissected: slashed, sliced and twisted. Shoulders are strong. Waists are narrow. Heeled trousers elongate the leg: the bumster in reverse. The most prominent motif in the collection is the orchid, in its rarer forms cultivated but, after the daisy, the most common flower. It thrives in the air, resists being rooted and grows in the wild. Extraordinarily beautiful and infinitely adaptable, the orchid mimics both predator and prey. In the language of flowers, the orchid is a symbol of love.”

This quote comes from Sarah Burton, who was the Creative Director of the Autumn/Winter 2023 “Anatomy” collection unveiled by Alexander McQueen at Paris Fashion Week. Beauty and power are examined by the maverick McQueen, in which the rules are made his own through plunging necklines, inverted lapels, sliced skirts and firm corsets. Anatomy in every fashion is depicted by McQueen’s Autumn/Winter 2023 collection, from human anatomy, clothes anatomy and flower anatomy. According to Burton, the orchid is the primarily prevalent motif in the entire collection, as it is gorgeous in its refusal to root and stunningly gorgeous when it blooms not only in the wild but also in the air; befitting the love symbolism it represents in universal flower language.

A sensual plethora of classically masculine and feminine clothing are featured in mainly subdued to dimmed hues with occasional striking blood reds and orchid purples. McQueen takes a disciplined and appealingly standardized approach to dressing the slicked-back haired models, as his flawless tailoring and asymmetrical designs pair with leather, wool, cotton and cashmere tabinet materials. Daringly slitted bustier dresses are molded from blazers as collars wrap around the neckline and hips are brought out by folding pockets, sometimes with slit sleeves and over-the-shoulder vents. The collection ranged from well-cut firm-shouldered suits, ties, white shirts, deep sleeved trench coats, pleated heeled trousers and midriff-cut tuxedo jumpsuits; to brawny dark dresses, denim corsets, pleated jumpsuits, cohesive heels, crystal-embroidered and beaded gowns with intermittent skeleton-like cables, unraveled and fringe skirts, silver orchid rings and necklaces, chained earrings and cuff bracelets.

VALENTINO Simplicity Is Complexity Resolved

A place as an idea - a representation, a metaphor. Not the château, but “Un Château” - a locale unanchored to geographies or eras, but expressive of an idea of life, a symbol to be analyzed, questioned, then redefined.

For the Valentino Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2023-24 Valentino show, a Château is, to Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli, a metaphysical entity, a recontextualizable context. Witness to a past time, a space bears traces of the lives lived within - formerly emblematic of notions of elitism and status, a nameless and universal Château can now reject its history to be recalibrated as a new forum of equality for everyone, and a celebration of beauty, uniqueness and freedom.

A Château can also serve as a metaphor for collective preconceptions of Haute Couture - as its lived history can be reconfigured, these expectations can be confounded, and paradoxes discovered. Within architectural and perceived complexity of a Château and Haute Couture - a pure simplicity can be found.

A fundamental ideology of Couture is championed - its expertise, craft, and the individual’s power, the unique. These concepts are translated to modern clothes that reflect contemporary sensibilities. Through reduction, meaning is anomalously added.

Clothes are markedly simple, they move streamlined with the body, seams reduced precisely. Past ideals are evoked with a present attitude: fabrics are lightened, decorative memories abstracted – colorful arabesques offer a baroque imitation, a minimalized maximalism. Draperies freeze fabric in still momentous motion. It gives pause for consideration, examination and reflection.

Humanity is at the center of all - flat shoes liberate movement, clothes flow, emotional expression, human feeling. Instinctive and spontaneous, gestures of extravagance emerge - a pretense of ermine, a waterfall of crystal jewels, reminders of histories. And, conversely, the quotidian can become exceptional, t-shirts transmute to ballgowns, vintage jeans serve as canvas for gilded embroidery. Others are invented anew, denim constructed from a painstaking trompe l’oeil of beadwork that excites curiosity, demanding closer inspection to comprehend - a philosophical approach that typifies this collection fully. A preciousness is afforded to every day, a celebration of its equal beauty.

A tension is explored between an environment and the figures within - people pass from interior grandeur to the freedom of nature, their clothes emblematic of the duality of this transition. Here, “Un Château” becomes an all-inclusive arena for the amplification of ideas.

Pour Femme Dylan Purple

Dylan Purple is a bright and elegant fragrance where a sparkling bergamot is blended with the joyful tones of a freshly harvested orange. Juicy pear adds a touch of modernity to an accord that is as addictive as it is vibrant. Heady scents of freesia deliver an explosion of bright purple color the delicate aroma of its petals is sublimated by Mahonial® and Pomarose®, both diffuse and powerful. Belambre® and Ambrofix™ provide an asserted, elegant and vibrant tone underlined by soft Iso E Super and creamy Cedarwood. Silkolide® signs the fragrance with a musky note and slight fruity accents.

Christophe Raynaud acknowledges that he created the fragrance as an invitation to travel. A fresh, fruity and addictive opening, like a tribute to the iced delights of Italy and its iconic citrus. The floral heart is the representation of a hypnotic sunset by the water. Purple reflections and a delicate scented breeze. Finally, vibrant woods and the elegance of musk to recall the golden and reassuring sand.

The Dylan Purple bottle is an expression of innovative Versace design. Elegant curves are reminiscent of an amphora,

strongly evoking the classical culture and mythology that runs deep through the Versace imagination. Glass and packaging are colored in purple, with details finished in rose gold. The aluminum cap is embossed with the Medusa Head and engraved with the name of the fragrance. Baroque-style letters spell out the brand name around the shoulder of the bottle.

ART EXHIBITION FOR CHARITY

Throughout August 2023, Sky Lounge at The Westin Jakarta underwent a remarkable transformation. Located on the 52nd floor of this prestigious five-star hotel in the vibrant Kuningan district of Jakarta, the space was adorned with a captivating collection of artworks by the esteemed Indonesian artist, Sidik W Martowidjojo.

This transformation was part of a month-long event, running from August 2nd to August 23rd, 2023, known as the “Pameran Peduli Sungai Mengalir Membawa Cinta”.

The event featured over 35 modern canvas paintings inspired by the beauty of nature, showcasing themes like the sea, rivers, and mountains by the maestro, Sidik, as a recipient of 2 gold medals at the prestigious Louvre International Arts event in Paris, France. The two exceptional pieces, “Mengalir” and “Membawa Cinta”, were the focal points of the exhibition and were dedicated for the auction. The Sidik W. Martowidjojo solo art exhibition is organized in support of the Sungai Watch charity auction, a noble cause aimed at conserving and protecting Indonesia’s rivers. Since 2020 Sungai Watch has been making remarkable contributions to river conservation.

However, the allure of this exhibition extended far beyond its stunning artwork. In collaboration with The Westin Jakarta, Registry Indonesia

organized a series of impactful events as part of the exhibition.

Kicking off on the 2nd of August 2023, the grand opening set the stage for the month-long celebration of art and environmental conservation. This was then followed by a special Marriot Bonvoy Moments event, “HeArt Talk,” which took place at Moët & Chandon, The Westin Jakarta on the 18th of August 2023. This unique occasion featured the collaboration between two maestros, Sidik W Martowidjojo and Ananda Sukarlan, who captivated the audience with their exceptional talents. This was closed by a heartfelt discussion with Sidik, offering insights into his creative process and environmental advocacy. Entering the third week of the event, an elegant afternoon soiree on the 22nd of August 2023 provided an opportunity for fundraising. In support of Sungai Watch, the youth-led initiative dedicated to the preservation of rivers in Bali and Indonesia, this afternoon soiree was hosted by Lucye Kwee, Christina Francisca Tan, and Andi Oktaparisi.

Registry and The Westin firmly believe that the support and participation from all stakeholders during this event exemplify a profound love for environmental and nature conservation. It represents an achievement born from the determination to preserve our planet for future generations.

This fondness of social and environmental causes seeps further into his life with The Westin Jakarta actively engaging in a variety of initiatives.

When given the chance to collaborate with Registry, Samit jumped at the opportunity with senior painter Sidik W. Martowidjojo for a nearmonthlong environmental painting exhibition to raise funds for Sungai Watch, called ‘Pameran Peduli Sungai, Mengalir Membawa Cinta’. This exhibition not only raises awareness about the critical state of our rivers but also advocates for their protection and revitalization. Supporting Sungai Watch’s mission reflects a commitment to sustainable practices and community engagement, which Samit considers pivotal in addressing today’s environmental challenges. Not only did the exhibition raise vital funds to support Sungai Watch’s mission, but it also fostered a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose among all the participants.

Samit hopes for continued dedication from like-minded organizations that not only champion ecological well-being but also foster community engagement. The Westin Jakarta’s vision extends beyond mere participation in similar events as they are driven to initiate bespoke projects dedicated to environmental conservation.

YUDITH DWI ASTUTI All Hands On Deck To Support Environmental Preservation

August was a busy month for Yudith Dwi Astuti. As Director of Marketing Communication for The Westin Jakarta, she was in charge of an event in collaboration with Registry Indonesia and maestro painter Sidik Martowidjojo, titled ‘Pameran Peduli Sungai, Mengalir Membawa Cinta’.

Starting from the 2nd of August up until the 23rd of August 2023, The Westin Jakarta had a number of VIP guests come watch the solo painting exhibition at the Sky Lounge Lobby on Floor 52. This was special as it was dedicated not only to displaying artwork, but also supporting Sungai Watch: an environmental awareness activity initiated by numerous youths. Yudith believes that the preservation of the environment is a vital responsibility for everyone, not only a moral obligation. Sustainability to her is more than a passing fad and she believes that it is the cornerstone of our legacy.

Since starting in May last year, Yudith has handled similar events as a form of the Westin Jakarta’s commitment to environmental and social issues. In 2022, she and The Westin Jakarta team presented Jakarta’s best street musicians through the *Westin Street Idol” program. As for the year 2023, Westin sees a solo art performance and fundraiser as being in line with their commitment. Yudith sees the use of innovative technology in tackling river plastic waste - which Sungai Watch youth practices - as something that needs to be supported. She believes that it is not easy to maintain consistency in preserving the environment and nature amidst the changing lifestyles of today’s society.

According to Yudith, The Westin Jakarta will continue to collaborate with groups interested in environmental and nature conservation.

LUCYE KWEE

Nature Preservation for Future Generations

On Tuesday (22/8) afternoon, the atmosphere at the Sky Lounge Lobby on the 52nd floor of The Westin Jakarta was earthy. A row of paintings by Sidik W. Martowidjojo stood proudly, contributing to the event’s liveliness. Lucye Kwee, CEO of PT Mitrakarya Sukses Indonesia, was beaming as she moved around the room. “I am delighted to be a part of this very special occasion,” Lucye said to the Registry team at the moment.

Lucye was among those who enthusiastically greeted the Peduli Sungai Mengalir Membawa Cinta show. Apart from being intrigued by the paintings up for auction and on exhibit at the event, she was also enthralled by the concept of the activity, which served as a fundraiser for Sungai Watch. Although Lucye does not know the young people trying to clean up Indonesia’s rivers, she admires their dedication.

As the CEO of several enterprises in the beauty product and consulting sectors, Lucye regards river clean-ups like those carried out by Sungai Watch as a very noble activity because they protect the environment from further harm. “It is very important to care for nature considering how uncontrolled pollution and waste have become, damaging the environment,” she says. “The adverse effects of all this can damage human life.”

Human life, according to Lucye, is inextricably linked to the natural world. The woman who got the Kartini Award (2018) and the MNC Lifestyle Award (2015) argues that nature, like the body, must be cared for and protected so that it is not wounded. The more individuals who care about protecting and caring for the surroundings, the greater the rewards.

There are numerous ways that can safeguard the environment, according to Lucye. One is gradually getting accustomed to living in an environmentally friendly manner. Eliminating littering is a prime instance of this required mentality. Participating in fundraising to assist environmental conservation efforts is an additional form of awareness she mentions that may be done at any time and from any point in the world.

Lucye was already thrilled about participating in a charity fundraising event and painting auction when she first learnt about it, as it aligned with her long-standing passion and participation in many philanthropic and humanitarian initiatives. She is not just a Habitat for Humanity campaigner,

but she is also the person who established and mainstay behind Lucye Care, which she has utilized to carry out other humanitarian efforts, including the Lucye Care for Mamuju program.

Lucye asked colleagues, relatives, and acquaintances to make a social contribution to humanity and the environment in order to make life more meaningful. As a result, the Chairwoman of several consulting firms felt obligated to take a more active position in promoting the Peduli Sungai Exhibition.

The single mother believes that the present fundraising efforts for Sungai Watch will build shared understanding of the importance of preserving wildlife for future generations. A sustainable environment, in her opinion, will help humans live happier lives. “We believe that every individual can make a difference in the well-being of our rivers.” “We aim to inform people about the damaging impact of plastic waste on our rivers and inspire collective action to protect our rivers and nature through the Sungai Watch campaign,” Lucye explained.

Lucye believes that Sungai Watch’s River cleanup initiatives give numerous environmental advantages and inspire a large number of individuals to become active in environmental activism. She implies that, regardless of one’s educational degree or career, nature is a heritage that must be protected collectively.

“Personally, very impressed with the fundraising event to support Sungai Watch, also impressed with the founder who is very concerned with the environment in Indonesia despite not being an Indonesian resident; I feel awakened as an Indonesian citizen myself seeing their very noble activities,” stated Lucye.

Lucye came to the charity event for more than simply the environmental paintings on show. She addressed questions from attendees who wanted to know more about the fundraising activities and the exhibition as one of the hosts at the charity event. Lucye also shared her thoughts and urged her friends to join her.

“Pollution can devastate everything if we don’t take care of our waste.” “I hope we can preserve nature for our children and future generations,” Lucye declared. She also hopes that such initiatives will be continued in the future.

The Sungai Watch Exhibition program, Mengalir Membawa Cinta, organized by Registry in collaboration with the Westin Jakarta, is a unique and inspirational activity, according to Santi. Furthermore, this project may involve collaboration with the country’s well-known painter, Sidik W Martowidjojo.

“This activity reminds us of the importance of maintaining clean water, which we often ignore and forget that water is a very important part of life,” Santi said.

Santi believes that everyone has varied ways and choices for conserving the earth. There are numerous options available based on ability and role. Santi believes that the desire to engage is the key.

“Mulai Saja dulu” is my Motto when it comes to supporting humanitarian causes or nature protection. Starting with basic initiatives like organizing community service or periodically cleaning the local environment and culverts, to as simple as encouraging young generation,” Santi explained.

Santio Tio’s care for the environment and nature, as well as her varied humanitarian actions, have made her a role model for both the environment and society. In the previous five years, she has won several accolades, including the Business Women MNC Lifestyle Award, the Gatra Award as a Role Model Woman, the Indonesia Women Beauty Award, the Best Fashion Award, and the DAAI TV Inspiring Women Award.

ANDI OKTAPARISI

Nature Preservation for a Meaningful Life

What happens when the ecology and nature become unsustainable? That is the question that motivates Andi Oktaparisi, FWD Insurance’s Business Director, to join in numerous actions aimed at conserving them and water resources.

Andi was overjoyed to learn that Registry Indonesia would be teaming up with the Westin Jakarta to host a fundraiser in support of Sungai Watch. The Sungai Watch youths’ clean river effort, he says, is a widely inspiring model.

“For many of us, clean water is so plenty, that we forget that life will be so hard without it,” Andi stated. As a result, he also asks colleagues and acquaintances to participate in activities that benefit the environment and nature, not only now but also in the future. “That is why I am hopeful that we can keep our water clean for our children and future generations.” Andi stated, “We will begin with this simple act of assisting Sungai Watch.”

According to him, popular awareness of the necessity of environmental preservation has gradually increased. Many activities have been held to foster a love of nature, which is a valuable trait to cultivate. The rapid spread of the negative impacts of environmental destruction via various media and information technology has accelerated the environmental concern movement.

Andi hopes that this will enhance the planet since he believes that the growing public awareness to conserve the environment and nature will result in forests being protected and water resources being improved. He also hopes that fundraisers like the ones organized by Registry and the Westin will continue in the future, because the more events that support preservation, the more we will be inspired to realize a sustainable nature for a more meaningful life

CHRISTINA FRANSISCA TAN

Living in Nature’s Harmony

Christina Fransisca Tan’s daily existence consists on living unpretentiously and in peace with nature. She is known for being a lively and down-toearth woman. Sisca Tan, the founder and advisor of Indonesian Women in Renewable Energy (i-WIRE), is accustomed to being involved in environmental protection initiatives.

Nature, according to Sisca, is a crucial component of existence that should not be overlooked. As a result, everyone must play their part in accordance with their abilities. Humans, too, must live in harmony with nature.

Sisca is currently in a number of strategic positions. She owns PT Subaru Makmur Perkasa as well as PT Makmur Konstruksindo Jaya Perkasa. Sisca finds time in her busy schedule to participate in social activities, particularly those relating to humanity and the environment.

According to Sisca, everyone should be concerned about the environment, particularly the availability of safe drinking water. Keeping the river clean is one indication of a love for water resources.

Sisca believes that clean water is essential for the existence of all living things on Earth, and that everyone should begin to focus on conserving and preserving water resources and the surrounding environment. Support can be provided by doing simple things like not littering in everyday life.

Furthermore, she believes that playing a role in environmental protection can be demonstrated by supporting the activities of communities that care and strive to become pioneers in nature conservation. One of them is what Sungai Watch, a group of young people, has done.

“By starting simple actions from our daily activities and helping Sungai Watch, we are doing our part to protect our life, our earth, our planet, for our future generations,” she stated.

She continued her study after graduating from UI at the New England School of Design in Boston, USA.

Anita still enjoys spending time outside doing things that have to do with nature. Despite being a lecturer at several universities, including the University of Maranatha Bandung and the University of Ciputra Surabaya, she made time to support the river care display organized by Registry Indonesia in collaboration with the Westin Jakarta.

Anita, the CEO of 33Trees Habitat Developer, stated that everyone must pay attention to the fight to rescue the forest or promote environment conservation, and can do so in a variety of ways. She chose to explore the country in order to better understand and respect the natural environment, while simultaneously serving as the Founder and Creative Director of Millenia Tata Aria. Another option is to support environmental organizations such as Sungai Watch.

“I was touched and impressed by the exhibition series of painter Sidik W Martowidjojo; how a world-class painter whose works are so beautiful and high valuable could support the activities of Sungai Watch,” remarked Anita modestly.

SHIRLEY WENAS Environmental Protection for the Future

Shirley Wenas’ heart breaks every time she sees individuals who are oblivious to the environment and nature, let alone those who openly harm it. According to Shirley, nature has provided numerous benefits to people and must be preserved.

Shirley, who is involved in Sekar Ayu Jiwanta, promotes a variety of actions that can be taken to care for the environment more. One of them is to become more aware inside oneself that nature was created not just for the current generation but also for future generations.

Shirley, who is involved in a variety of philanthropic initiatives, is encouraged to contribute to environmental assistance programs such as those carried out by Sungai Watch. She believes that the actions started by the Sungai Watch youth have encouraged many individuals to take action.

FENSY LEE Love for Nature Teaches Directive Decision

Nature imparts us many with things, including the value of balance. Closeness to and care for nature, according to Fensy Lee, a woman born in 1977, will make human existence more structured and orderly.

Fensy believes that because humans are part of nature, they should be able to contribute to its preservation. “My hope for the earth and our environment in the future is that it will be cleaner and free from environmental pollution,” Fensy stated.

She also believes that human care for the environment and conservation of natural resources will make life more meaningful. This love of nature is also what inspired the Intercontinental Singapore Hotel’s Marketing Manager to join in the Caring for Rivers, Flowing Love Exhibition.

The woman who graduated from Shatec University Singapore said she was immediately fascinated when she heard about a painting exhibition involving nature protection. Furthermore, she thought Maestro Sidik Martowidjojo’s paintings on display at the exhibition were distinctive and remarkable. Sidik’s works are almost entirely nature-themed and underscore the value of natural balance.

The variety of activities performed during the solo show to support Sungai Watch piqued Fensy’s curiosity. “I believe events like this remind us of the importance of realizing that we live side by side with nature, so we must take good care of it,” Fensy stated.

DEA MAHENDRA Loving the Environment by Managing Waste

Preserving the environment is quite an act to be done. This life principle is what makes a professional golfer, Dea Mahendra caught an eye in participating the Peduli Sungai, Mengalir Membawa Cinta exhibition. As a person who spends more time on the green, Dea presumes that public awareness of nature and the environment needs an improvement.

Born in 1990, her experience in competing across a number of countries such as Taiwan, India, America and Australia have instilled an understanding that air pollution & environmental damage are developed into misgiving as the human population increases. “It is good if there are those who care about nature and invite others to love the environment more,” Dea declared.

The 2008 National Sports Week (PON) silver medallist said it is not a burdensome for the world to participate in protecting nature. One of the steps that Dea thinks is doable is proper waste management, acting as not littering and the other actions. She assessed that concern for not littering benefits not just oneself but the wider community as well.

It was this concern for the surrounding environment that moved Dea to participate in fundraising activities for Sungai Watch. Although she is unfamiliar with those who are the driving force behind the organisation’s river cleanup activities, Dea expresses that she was inspired by their enthusiasm to care more about nature.

According to Dea, Sungai Watch’s steps to raise awareness to put their concerns on nature must be supported in various ways, with donating or supporting their activities into one. “They are doing the necessity of the situation. Which is amazing and I’m thankful for what they are doing,” she pronounced.

ELLIJAWATI DJENDRONO The Youth is The Steward of

Our Planet’s Future

Living in simplicity along with spending more time to share with the community and the environment are the life principles held by Ellijawati Djendrono. A graduate of Monash University, she believes that nature and the environment need to be balanced and it is our responsibility to keep the ecosystem going well.

Her passion for arts and infusing creativity in any aspect of daily life has made her feel closer to nature. Since 2006, Ellijawati has been in the board of Creative Indonesia Credo Foundation, which program has been adapted by UNICEF to teach students how to read and provide training to teachers and students in remote areas such as Maluku, Banten, Kei Island, etc. In the midst of her busy schedule, she always takes the time to foster a love for nature and the surrounding community.

Not only at Credo, she is also active in Parents Support Group of ACS Jakarta for the last 12 years in planning, organizing and coming up with ideas in the field of education like providing academic enrichment outside the school syllabus. Ellijawati believes life is more meaningful when we can contribute and share what we have to our community.

“I take great pleasure in engaging with and befriending fascinating and down-to-earth individuals. I find those who exhibit humanity and strength in the face of adversity particularly personally inspiring,” stated Ellijawati.

Ellijawati hopes that more collective efforts will be made to achieve harmonious coexistence with nature. She believes young people have a big role to play in campaigning for environmental awareness. “I believe that even the smallest action can have a significant impact on the bigger picture.”

SHIRLINA STEVANI HALIM

Let’s Work Together to Save the Environment

Humans derive their existence from nature. Nature is a source of inspiration for Shirlina Stevani Halim, CEO of PT Kostindo Lestari Utama (Property) and the co-founder of Unity School.

Shirlina, a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, Pomona, USA, believes that concern for nature must be addressed in light of the deteriorating environmental situations. According to Shirlina, environmental degradation can result in biodiversity loss, which causes an imbalance in the ecosystem and has an impact on future generations.

“I can strongly argue that it is critical for society to act now to help recover the damages while they are still reversible.” Our daily lives are inextricably linked to the natural world, making us reliant on it. “Losing this will be detrimental to our survival and well-being,” Shirlina argued vehemently.

In the near future, according to Shirlina, people will realize the scale of the harm and band together to take effective action to save the environment. Everyone can contribute, according to the treasurer of Yayasan Emas International, by leading an environmentally conscious lifestyle, such as reducing plastic waste and switching to renewable energy.

She also asked all parties, both public and private, as well as the community, to work together to preserve nature. “A united front is needed when combating climate change and the threats to nature,” Shirlina said.

Being both a businesswoman and a housewife makes PIK 2 automotive district commissioner Sanny Liawati feel that life should be more meaningful. “Maybe since I am no longer young, I try to make myself not only useful for my family and workers, but also for many people,” said Sanny.

As also the owner of luxury CBU car dealer, Sanny Auto Gallery, Sanny noted that she always takes an interest in participating in any activity that has positive value for the community and the environment. She believes every child of the nation has a role to contribute in encouraging progress and improvement in various fields.

Sanny felt this feeling of wanting to do more when learning about Registry Indonesia and the Westin Jakarta’s Sungai Watch fundraiser. According to her, the Peduli Sungai Mengalir Membawa Cinta Exhibition, the young members of Sungai Watch and those who took part in the event’s success inspired many to take motivated action.

“It is our duty together as children of the nation to be able to help and educate the people of Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke on the importance of protecting nature and the environment,” Sanny explained. She believes that everyone can play a role in saving the environment, and the most important thing is the desire to be involved in a joint movement to realize a better future.

YANSEN HANDOKO Begin With The Small and From Within

Yansen Handoko has gained a wealth of life experience through his work in the real estate industry. The Board of Directors of PT Puncak Griya Sewu has plenty of time to consider the surrounding environment. One of his interests is the struggle to protect the environment and nature.

Yansen believes that efforts to maintain nature’s equilibrium must begin with selfawareness, which is quite simple to nurture and expand. “It can start with caring about the environment around us first,” he added, adding that otherwise life would be pointless because nature is easy to ruin but difficult to repair.

The “Caring for Sungai Mengalir Membawa Cinta Exhibition” is one example he cites as requiring widespread support. Yansen was impressed by Sidik W Martowidjojo, who continues to paint despite his advanced age, and it inspires him to stay motivated and to keep working.

On the other hand, he believes Sidik inspires through his works that demonstrate a strong care for the environment. “In these times, he inspires me and reminds me of the importance of caring for nature.” Furthermore, I appreciate Mr. Sidik’s paintings, the majority of them are nature-themed,” Yansen declared. He agrees with Sidik that nature teaches knowledge; nature serves as a catalyst and reminder of the importance of maintaining life’s balance.

ARTMOMENTS JAKARTA 2023 The Focused, Boutique-Style Return

The annual ArtMoments Jakarta returned to the capital from 18-20 August 2023 at the Grand Ballroom of Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel. 30 art galleries participated in the sixth edition of the Fair, with high quality artworks in a more intimate setting.

ArtMoments Jakarta was established in 2018 and rapidly rose to prominence as one of Indonesia’s big art fairs. Striving to cater to external markets and galleries’ aspirations, ArtMoments Jakarta has chosen

distinguished and exclusive venues for its presentations. Despite this upscale approach, the fair remained dedicated to upholding an inclusive and accessible platform, aiming to promote art as an integral part of everyday life.

With the continued support of Pakuwon Group as the venue partner, organizers like Sendy Widjaja, Co-Founder & Fair Director of ArtMoments Jakarta, were delighted to present ArtMoments Jakarta 2023 at this hotel.

As ArtMoments Jakarta 2023 was dedicated to showcasing diverse works from national and international galleries and artists, it was hoped that the art fair would serve as an inspiration to artists and also offer a wider selection for Indonesian art collectors, along with this year’s event being more curated and emphasizing quality over quantity to achieve its aim for a boutique concept.

Under the artistic direction of Rizki Zaelani, ArtMoments Jakarta 2023 featured the theme EMBRACE MOMENTS: Continually Art, that aimed to emphasize the optimism of Indonesian art’s ongoing advancement in diverse and strong forms of expression. This theme was an invitation to embrace and celebrate this progress by recognising and appreciating the initiatives and programs of art institutions (especially galleries and art fairs) in Indonesia, who endeavour to make Indonesian art competitive and influential within the global market.

In this edition, ArtMoments Jakarta featured a number of public presentations, within the Fair Grounds, as well as in public spaces throughout the hotel and connecting shopping area. Tokyo-based Whitestone Gallery presented ‘Walk Cycle’, a large-scale digital installation by award-winning visual artist and animation director Kongkee. Another public presentation was by Jakarta-based G3N Project x Museum of Toys, a 3.5 meter sculpture by Arkiv Vilmansa.

A partner of ArtMoments Jakarta since 2019 has been Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel, as can be attested by Munwar Basha, its General Manager. As the Sheraton brand prides itself as the world’s gathering place, it is only naturally befitting that its hotel is

where the premier art fair in Jakarta is hosted now and for many more years of support to come. Furthermore, Sheraton Grand Jakarta’s international quality art pieces enhance the spirit of ArtMoments Jakarta.

ArtMoments Jakarta was also delighted to announce that it once again received full support from Bank Central Asia (BCA) as its official bank partner. Building on a successful collaboration since 2021, ArtMoments worked closely with BCA to ensure a seamless artbuying experience during the event. Art enthusiasts and collectors attending ArtMoments Jakarta 2023 had the privilege of utilizing the Cicilan BCA 0% up to 24 months feature for their art purchases using BCA credit cards. This convenient option allowed attendees to acquire their favorite artworks while enjoying the flexibility of extended payment terms without any interest charges. MADE WIANTA

Exploring the Diverse Artistry of a Visionary Maestro

Made Wianta’s artistic journey is a captivating tale of innovation and transformation, marked by nine distinctive stylistic phases that define his remarkable career. These periods encompass Karangasem, the Dot Period, Rectangles, Triangles, Assemblies, Calligraphy, Calendars, Happening Arts/Installations, and Mixed Media.

Among the zeniths of his artistic endeavors, “Art and Peace” stands as a monumental achievement in Wianta’s oeuvre. This grand spectacle unfolded at the close of 1999, heralding the dawn of a new millennium. In a profound gesture, Wianta commemorated this momentous occasion while expressing solidarity with the victims of the 1998 Jakarta riots. “Art and Peace” materialized as a colossal work spanning an

astounding two 1,000 meters of cloth, serving as a symbolic marker for the new millennium. This vast canvas bore the word ‘Peace’ inscribed in numerous languages from across the globe, accompanied by messages of peace contributed by prominent figures, even world leaders. Adorned in pristine white attire, dancers traversed Sanur Beach, gracefully pulling and manipulating the lengthy cloth while reciting verses of peace. The piece also found acclaim at the Biennale Merano in Italy.

Beyond these distinct stylistic phases, Wianta frequently channeled his creative energy into thematic artworks. Notable examples include his passionate protests against deforestation, river pollution, and air pollution, with some of these pieces finding a home in the Singapore

Art Museum. His unique take on road clutter culminated in installations and the happening art piece ‘Street’ in Ubud, while ‘Graffiti Sound’ unfolded along the streets of Kuala Lumpur, addressing the issue of noise pollution. An intriguing facet of his artistic repertoire is the musical instrument he crafted from a coconut tree, known as the Penglamusan, now a permanent exhibit at the Der Kulturen Museum Basel in Switzerland. Wianta’s unwavering commitment to global harmony is evident through the “Art and Peace” project and the installation of the “2000 Unity

and Diversity” stones at Bali’s Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park, inviting all inhabitants of Earth to coexist harmoniously.

Following the tragic Bali bombing in 2002, Wianta passionately raised awareness of the human suffering inflicted by terrorism. He used cows’ blood to stain canvases, upon which haunting images of the Bali bombing were printed. With bare hands, Wianta added a visceral layer of cow’s blood, symbolizing the brutality and inhumanity of this act of terror. These works, part

of the “Blood Covenant” series, also found a place at the 2003 Venice Biennale.

Wianta’s deep appreciation for the archipelago’s splendor is a testament to his artistic voyage. “Run for Manhattan ‘’ is a striking piece that delves into a pivotal historical event—the exchange of Run Island in the Indonesian archipelago for Manhattan in America through the 1667 Treaty of Breda. This artwork not only chronicles this grand historical narrative but also showcases Wianta’s innovative techniques. He skillfully employs mixed media, clay, sand textures, and the dot technique to portray the beauty of the spice island Run and its vibrant emerald coral. Two works, “Spice Island ‘’ and “Golden Island,” graced the World Bank in Washington DC in celebration of Indonesia’s collaboration anniversary in 2017, with “Treasure Island” exhibited at the 2016 Singapore Biennale. Notably, Wianta captures the essence of nutmeg, the driving force behind the exchange between Run and Manhattan, in an abstract surreal style. A backdrop of the VOC fortress symbol and golden nutmeg, dripping blood-red, portrays the spice’s tragic history.

Wianta’s depiction of New York City, dominated by its iconic skyscrapers, is a testament to his signature style during the quadrangle period. “New York Town Hall” presents the cityscape with a precise color scheme and Wianta’s cubist quadrangles. The majesty of the World Trade Center is eloquently conveyed in Wianta’s etchings, while the Statue of Liberty shines resplendently as a New York/Manhattan landmark, juxtaposed with volcanic lava as a poignant reminder of Run Island. Beneath the skyscraper shadows, Fifth Avenue glistens (pictured).

Wianta’s artistic prowess was further validated by research conducted by Professor Oohashi from the Foundation for the Advancement of International Science and the National Institute of Neuroscience at CIBA University. This research unveiled a remarkable correlation: when Wianta painted, his brain activity mirrored that of meditating priests. Prof. Oohashi’s work on “Art for Healing” found Wianta’s colorful vibrations to be exceptionally conducive to healing, setting him apart in the art world.

In a serendipitous encounter in 1978, Wianta crossed paths with Paloma Picasso, daughter of the legendary Pablo Picasso, in Ubud. Facilitated by Pande Suteja Neka, owner of the Neka Museum, this meeting led to a profound exchange of ideas and a showcase of Wianta’s work. Paloma Picasso, deeply impressed, prophesied that Wianta would rise to become a renowned artist, much like her father. This premonition served as a heartfelt prayer, and as Wianta’s career unfolded, it became a prayer splendidly answered.

Made Wianta’s work, characterized by its periodization, has led him to be regarded as one of Indonesia’s artistic treasures, often likened to the great Picasso. In an exclusive interview with French art curator Jean Couteau, Paloma Picasso acknowledged the striking parallels between Wianta and her father, in terms of their visionary thinking, artistic eccentricity, and prolific creativity. Their works, both forward-thinking and prescient, find kinship in their enduring impact on the art world.
